In the study, the effects of ozone and fungicide treatments on the fruit quality of Hicaznar pomegranate during storage were investigated. Fruit harvested at optimum harvest time transported to laboratory, immediately and divided into three groups. Non-treated first group was used as control group. Second group was exposed to ozone gas (4 ppm) by ozone generator in a gas-tight cabinet for 6 h. Last group was dipped into fungicide (0.9% prochloraz) solution for 10 seconds. After treatments, pomegranates were placed in modified atmosphere package (MAP) and stored at 6°C and 90±5% relative humidity for 5 months. Weight loss (%), soluble solid content (%), titratable acidity (g 100mL-1), respiration rate (mLCO2 kg-1h-1), gas composition in package (%), fruit skin color and sensory evaluation were determined initially and at one month intervals. Ozone and fungicide treatments gave the best results in terms of sensory evaluations compared to control group. Fungicide treatment was significantly reduced the weight loss and respiration rate of pomegranates. As a result, ozone and prochloraz treatments were effective to prolong the storage life and maintain the post-harvest quality of Hicaznar pomegranate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
