In this study, poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPA) has been synthesized by the free-radical polymerization method using azobisisobutyronitrile the initiator. Then, nanoparticle-PNIPA composite is prepared with magnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles synthesized by co-precipitation. The thermal decomposition kinetics of synthesized PNIPA and nanocoated PNIPA have been investigated. It has been observed that nanocoated PNIPA has a more stable structure at high temperatures than synthesized PNIPA. In the newly improved model equations relate to thermal decomposition kinetics, a special solution has been made with the new approach. Moreover, the calculated activation energies of the samples have been evaluated with response surface methodology (RSM). The ratios required to synthesize nanocoated-PNIPA under the optimum conditions have been determined by RSM. The activation energy of the nanocomposite obtains when 0.3170 g PNIPA is coated with 0.048 g Fe3O4 nanoparticle is determined as 127.757 kJ/mol. In other words, nanocoating has been increased the thermal stability of the synthesized composite. Copper-promoted iron oxides are commonly utilized in high-temperature water-gas shift (WGS) reactions. Although the promotional effect of Cu has been previously documented, the nature of the active sites for Cu/Fe 3 O 4 remains debated and the role of the crystallite size of Fe 3 O 4 has not been tackled. In this study, a wide range of Cu/Fe 3 O 4 catalysts were designed by hosting Cu species onto Fe 3 O 4 of two contrasting crystallite sizes (approximately 10 and 160 nm) and by utilizing different preparation methods (ammonia evaporation and deposition-precipitation). The evaluation of their catalytic WGS performances revealed a remarkable and previously undocumented phenomenon: the addition of Cu resulted in universal activity enhancements only for small Fe 3 O 4 crystals, while the larger analogues displayed decreased activity. This peculiar phenomenon can be explained by the creation of Cu–Fe 3 O 4 interfaces present in the iron oxides of small crystallite sizes. Thorough characterizations, such as advanced electron microscopic, in situ powder X-ray diffractions, in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, and computational studies, suggest strong electronic interactions between the different metal species, facilitated reductions of the individual oxides, and more favorable CO activation at the interfacial sites, all accounting for the promoted activity. Iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation using three different iron salt stoichiometric mole ratios. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns revealed the inverse cubic spinel structure of magnetite iron oxide. Transmission electron microscopic images showed Fe3O4 nanoparticles with different shapes and average particle sizes of 5.48 nm for Fe3O4-1:2, 6.02 nm for Fe3O4-1.5:2, and 6.98 nm for Fe3O4-2:3 with an energy bandgap of 3.27 to 3.53 eV. The as-prepared Fe3O4 nanoparticles were used as photocatalysts to degrade brilliant green (BG), rhodamine B (RhB), indigo carmine (IC), and methyl red (MR) under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic degradation efficiency of 80.4% was obtained from Fe3O4-1:2 for brilliant green, 61.5% from Fe3O4-1.5:2 for rhodamine B, and 77.9% and 73.9% from Fe3O4-2:3 for both indigo carmine and methyl red. This indicates that Fe3O4-2:3 is more efficient in the degradation of more than one dye. This study shows that brilliant green degrades most effectively at pH 9, rhodamine B degrades best at pH 6.5, and indigo carmine and methyl red degrade most efficiently at pH 3. This work presents a new and facile route for the preparation of iron oxide-based catalysts supported on alumina, which enables the targeted synthesis of catalysts with an increased amount of isolated tetrahedrally coordinated iron centers compared to a conventional impregnation procedure, and therefore leads to an increase in activity for CO oxidation reaction. By a multi-step impregnation–calcination protocol, the catalysts were synthesized with iron loadings of between 1 and 10 wt%, and their catalytic activity was then compared with a 10 wt% loaded catalyst prepared by conventional single impregnation. With a loading of 8 wt%, the presented catalysts showed an improved catalytic activity regarding light-off and full conversion temperatures compared to this reference. Through the application of several analytical methods (PXRD, PDF, DRUVS, SEM, XAFS), the improved catalytic activity can be correlated with an increased amount of isolated iron centers and a significantly reduced fraction of agglomerates or particles. The creation of iron oxide nanostructures with complementary functions has emerged as a requirement for more efficient preclinical nanoparticle-mediated biological research. The physical and magnetic properties of nanoparticles for certain applications are determined by the particle morphology and size, which are crucial factors. We present a method for producing magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoclusters of uniform size by a simple and cost-effective solvothermal process, utilising oleic acid (OA) as the coordinating ligand. The nanocluster sizes are altered by manipulating the temperature during the solvothermal process. Three separate sets of Fe3O4 nanoclusters are synthesised and characterised. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectrum exhibits a singular phase characterised by a cubic spinel structure. The particle sizes in the nano range were verified by FESEM, and the interplanar spacing measured by TEM is consistent with that determined by XRD. The confirmation of nanocluster formation was achieved through the utilisation of FESEM and AFM images. The rising temperature correlates with the creation of nanoclusters. The rise in reaction temperature resulted in an augmentation of the size of the crystallite, the shape of nanocrystals, and a rise in the value of saturation magnetization. A high Ms from the magnetic property study confirmed that all the synthesised materials are superparamagnetic. Rapid advancements in nanotechnology have expanded its applications and synergistic impact on modern nanosystems. The comprehensive assessment of nanomaterials' safety for human exposure has become crucial and heightened. In addition to the characterization of cell proliferation and apoptosis, probing the implication of autophagy is vital for understanding the ramification of nanomaterials. Hence, HEK-293 kidney cells were employed to understand the changes in induction and perturbation of autophagy in cells by iron oxide (Fe3O4) and silica (SiO2) nanoparticles. Interestingly, Fe3O4 worked as a potent modulator of the autophagy process through its catalytic performance, which can develop better than that of SiO2 nanoparticles mechanism, stressing their therapeutic implication in the understanding of cell behaviors. The quantification of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was measured along with the process of autophagy during cell growth. Cancer is one of the leading causes of global mortality, and its incidence is increasing annually. Neutron capture therapy (NCT) is a unique anticancer modality capable of selectively eliminating tumor cells within normal tissues. The development of accelerator-based, clinically mountable neutron sources has stimulated a worldwide search for new, more effective compounds for NCT. We synthesized magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (NPs) that concurrently incorporate boron and gadolinium, potentially enhancing the effectiveness of NCT. These magnetic nanoparticles underwent sequential modifications through silane polycondensation and allylamine graft polymerization, enabling the creation of functional amino groups on their surface. Characterization was performed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), dynamic light scattering (DLS), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). ICP-AES measurements indicated that boron (B) content in the NPs reached 3.56 ppm/mg, while gadolinium (Gd) averaged 0.26 ppm/mg. Gadolinium desorption was observed within 4 h, with a peak rate of 61.74%. The biocompatibility of the NPs was confirmed through their relatively low cytotoxicity and sufficient cellular tolerability. Using NPs at non-toxic concentrations, we obtained B accumulation of up to 5.724 × 1010 atoms per cell, sufficient for successful NCT. Although limited by its content in the NP composition, the Gd amount may also contribute to NCT along with its diagnostic properties. The study of iron nanoparticles is one of the most researched areas in recent times due to the potential applications they have and because the study of iron by XPS is one of the most debated elements. In this work, we provide investigation data of iron oxide nanoparticles produced using the laser ablation technique, which were characterized using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Survey spectra, C 1s, O 1s, and Fe 2p core levels spectra were acquired. Results showed the presence of Fe+3 and Fe+2 elements that constitute hematite and magnetite with differences in their concentrations depending on the fitting method. The investigation and clarification of the properties of surface-functionalized superparamagnetic nanoparticles in a biological environment are key challenges prior to their medical applications. In the present work, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR) combined with the spin labeling technique was utilized to better understand the behavior of nitroxides attached to magnetite nanoparticles dispersed in body fluid. EPR spectra of spin-labeled, silane-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles in human serum and whole blood were recorded and analyzed for both room- and low-temperature values. In all cases, the obtained EPR signal consisted of a broad line from magnetite cores and a characteristic signal from the attached 4-Amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (4-amino-TEMPO). Even for liquid samples, the anisotropic components of magnetic tensors did not fully average out, which was reflected in the differences in the intensity of three narrow hyperfine lines from nitroxide. At 230 K the irregular slow-motion signal from the attached radical was also simulated using the EasySpin toolbox, which allowed to determine the parameters related to magnetic tensors and the dynamics of the spin label. The study showed that the anisotropy of the motion of the spin label 4-amino-TEMPO reflects its interactions with the surrounding medium and the manner of the attachment of the nitroxide to the surface of nanoparticles. In recent years, electronic devices with trendy flexibility and compatibility have become the competitive alternative to conventional electronics. In the present work, flexible polymer nanocomposite films composed of poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene), iron oxide, and strontium titanate (PVDF-HFP/SrTiO3/Fe2O3) were synthesized by the solution-casting method. The formation and structural features of this composite material have been analyzed by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermogravimetric (TGA), and SEM. SEM results confirm the homogeneous dispersion of SrTiO3 and Fe2O3 within the host polymer. The uniform dispersion of the embedded metal species enhances the dielectric values up to 462 on optimization with infused rigidity. The impedance studies of PVDF-HFP/SrTiO3/Fe2O3 were performed in the temperature region of 50–150 °C at various frequencies ranging from 50 Hz to 10 MHz and the AC conductivity studies suggested that synthesized polymer nanocomposite shows higher conductivity with the maximum conductivity value was 8.20 × 10−3S/m. Polymer nanocomposite films with large dielectric constant and minimum dielectric loss are highly recommendable for flexible energy storage applications. This article presents the findings of a study on oxide reduction utilizing a novel reducing plasma torch, employing greenhouse gases such as CO2 and CH4 as plasma gases. The primary aim of this investigation is to establish the viability of this approach. The innovative plasma torch was employed to reduce various oxides, including aluminum oxide, iron oxide, and titanium oxide, as well as a mixed oxide composition, employing a CO2/CH4 molar ratio of 1:1 within a spouted bed reactor. Following plasma treatment, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was conducted to examine the metallic phases, notably titanium, iron, and aluminum. SEM–EDS observations were carried out to assess microstructural changes and identify elemental compositions pre- and post-plasma treatment. The results demonstrate that within the conical section of the reactor, titanium oxide experiences partial reduction, resulting in limited titanium production, while aluminum oxide and iron oxides (magnetite and hematite) undergo reduction to yield aluminum and iron, respectively. The fracture surface of rail K76F steel after static bending tests of rail butt joints produced by flash-butt welding was studied. Butt joints of rails of individual batches were fractured on the base metal or heat-affected zone (HAZ). It is shown that in the regions of dark colour and oval shape, the fracture on the iron oxide film takes place. The formation of films occurs as a result of melting and distribution of iron oxide inclusions along the structural boundaries probably in the thermo-deformation conditions of the crimping shop at the stage of blooming production. The formation of clusters of iron oxides occurs during the crystallization of the residual melt in steel ingots with an insufficient degree of deoxidation. Oval regions of dark colour on the fracture surface are evidence of an insufficient degree of deoxidation of rail steel and a factor of its quality reduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Iron oxide-modified 1Pd0.5Fe and 1Pd10Fe catalysts with a target content of 1 wt % Pd and 0.5 or 10 wt % Fe have been synthesized by the wet impregnation of Al2O3 with iron and palladium nitrates. The catalysts have been compared with each other and with a monometallic 1Pd catalyst in diclofenac (DCF) hydrodechlorination (HDC) in dilute aqueous solutions at 30°C in batch and flow reactors after high-temperature (320°C) and mild reduction (30°C), the latter being run in a batch or flow reactor. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has revealed that, after reduction at 320°C, the catalysts contain mostly Pd0, Fe2+, and Fe3+. The Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio on the surface increases with a decrease in the iron content. The reduction of Pd2+ to Pd0 can occur even at 30°C; however, on the 1Pd0.5Fe surface, it is significantly less effective than that on 1Pd10Fe. According to XPS, temperature-programmed reduction, and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy of adsorbed CO, modification with iron oxides leads to an increase in the palladium content on the surface compared with that on 1Pd, contributes to the formation of new Pd–O–Fe sites, and affects the reducibility of palladium. These effects enhance with an increase in the iron content. The iron-modified catalysts reduced at 320°C exhibit similar activity and stability in DCF conversion in flow and batch systems. The 1Pd10Fe catalyst, unlike 1Pd0.5Fe, is highly efficient and stable even after mild reduction at 30°C. Under flow conditions, it provides a DCF conversion comparable to that provided by 1Pd and a selectivity in the DCF HDC reaction that is higher than that provided by 1Pd, which is also active in hydrogenation. The iron industry is the largest energy-consuming manufacturing sector in the world, emitting 4–5% of the total carbon dioxide (CO2). The development of iron-based systems for CO2 capture and storage could effectively contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. A wide set of different iron oxides, such as hematite (Fe2O3), magnetite (Fe3O4), and wüstite (Fe(1−y)O) could in fact be employed for CO2 capture at room temperature and pressure upon an investigation of their capturing properties. In order to achieve the most functional iron oxide form for CO2 capture, starting from Fe2O3, a reducing agent such as hydrogen (H2) or carbon monoxide (CO) can be employed. The synthesis of novel catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction, by means of a fast one-pot microwave-assisted procedure, is reported herein and deeply explained. In particular, the important role of doping atoms, like sulfur and nitrogen, in Fe2O3-reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites is described to address the modification of catalytic performance. The presence of dopants is confirmed by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy analysis, while the integration of iron oxide nanoparticles, by means of decoration of the graphene structure, is corroborated by electron microscopy, which also confirms that there is no damage to the graphene sheets induced by the synthesis procedure. The electrochemical characterizations put in evidence the synergistic catalysis effects of dopant atoms with Fe2O3 and, in particular, the importance of sulfur introduction into the graphene lattice. Catalytic performance of as-prepared materials toward oxygen reduction shows values close to the Pt/C reference material, commonly used for fuel cell and metal–air battery applications. The work reported here deals with fabricating iron oxide nanoparticles incorporated polyvinyl alcohol nanocomposite films via the solution‐casting green route, characterized using various characterization techniques. X‐ray diffraction analysis shows interaction of nanoparticles with the polyvinyl alcohol matrix, scanning electron microscopy shows surface morphology of crack‐free films, energy dispersive spectroscopy indicates elemental purity, tensiometer analysis shows changing behavior of hydrophilic to hydrophobic, thermogravimetric analysis shows improved thermal stability, ultraviolet‐visible spectroscopy shows tunable optical properties, and frequency response analysis shows improved electrical properties. A small incorporation (1 wt. %) of iron oxide nanoparticles has induced significant alternations in structural, wetting, thermal, optical, and electrical properties of the polyvinyl alcohol‐based nanocomposite films. Results showed notable changes in the structural phases, water contact angle (39.5° to 97.7°), optical absorption edge (5.12 eV to 4.84 eV), indirect band gap (4.99 eV to 4.68 eV), direct bandgap (5.41 eV to 5.21 eV), and band tail (0.57 eV to 0.89 eV) from native polyvinyl alcohol to polyvinyl alcohol/iron oxide nanocomposite films. Enhancements were observed in refractive indices, optical conductivity, optical dielectric loss, thermal stability, dielectric constant, and dielectric loss on incorporating iron oxide nanoparticles into the polyvinyl alcohol matrix. Standard materials are often used to obtain spectra that can be compared to those from unknown samples. Spectra measured from these known substances are also used as a means of computing sensitivity factors to allow quantification by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) of less well‐defined materials. Spectra from known materials also provide line shapes suitable for inclusion in spectral models which, when fitted to spectra, permit the chemical state for a sample to be assessed. Both types of information depend on isolating photoemission signals from the inelastically scattered signal. In this Insight note, technical issues associated with the use of XPS of as received Fe3O4 powder sample surface are discussed. The Insight note is designed to show how linear algebraic techniques applied to data collected from a sample marketed as pure Fe3O4 powder are used to verify that XPS has been performed on chemistry representative of the sample. The methods described in this Insight note can further be utilized in elucidating complex XPS data obtained from thin films formed or evolved during cyclic/non‐steady use of complex (electro)catalyst surfaces, especially in the presence of contaminants. Iron oxide-based ferrite ceramics, widely applied in high-frequency applications, are conventionally produced through high-temperature sintering processes, often resulting in grain growth and phase transformation. In this study, we used a cold sintering process (CSP) with oxalic acid (OA) as a solvent to consolidate iron oxide (Fe 3 O 4) ceramics at a low temperature of 160 °C. The OA-assisted CSP technique has demonstrated a remarkable capacity to facilitate the dissolution and redeposition of iron oxide ions, leading to the interconnection of Fe 3 O 4 particles, forming densely packed ceramics even at low-temperature sintering. Importantly, CSP maintained particle sizes and hindered phase transitions of Fe 3 O 4. The OA concentrations in CSP had a minimal impact on crystal structure and magnetic properties, but it significantly enhanced microstructural features, density, hardness, and electrical resistance. Compared to reference samples prepared without an aqueous solution or with water alone, the CSP-prepared Fe 3 O 4 ceramics with OA exhibited substantially improved density (a relative density of ∼80 %), mechanical properties (Vickers hardness of 3.5–4.0 GPa), magnetic properties (saturation magnetization >70 emu/g), and electrical resistance (electrical conductivity ∼10−3 S/cm at 102–106 Hz). These findings demonstrate a novel approach to fabricating Fe 3 O 4 ceramics at significantly lower temperatures while still achieving properties comparable to those sintered at high temperatures. Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles immobilized on microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) are studied for the adsorption of Pb(II) ions from an aqueous solution. Composites of iron oxide and MCC were synthesized with a 5%–20% loading of iron (w/w%). The effect of pH, concentration, and contact time was studied. The adsorption isotherms were fitted to nonlinear Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D‐R) isotherms, and kinetics were studied for pseudo‐first and second‐order kinetic fit models. Adsorption of Pb(II) ions increased with increasing pH value up to 5. Maximum adsorption of Pb(II) was observed up to 299.91 mg−1 in D‐R equilibrium for onto MCC‐Iron oxide composite for composite with iron loading of 20% at pH 5. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study comprehensively investigated the effect of iron-oxide nanoparticles (NPs) on weathering durability and thermal resistance of wood-plastic composites (WPCs). The hydrophobic nature of NPs improved the dimensional stability of WPCs. The small size of NPs deposits the voids in the matrix, which helps to increase the mechanical properties, even after weathering test. The decrease of modulus of rupture (MOR) reached up to 16% for control samples, while it was 2% for IO40-1. Despite the intensive weathering conditions, NPs cover the surface of materials like a UV shield, improving WPCs' UV resistance. Moreover, the increase in the wood and NPs content limited the UV degradation, which resulted in lower color changes. The attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) analysis also proved that there were nearly no changes in the characteristic bands of polymer (2916 and 2846 cm−1) and wood (1512 cm−1). The microscopic investigation, however, revealed the deterioration on the surface of WPCs after weathering exposure. Even though UV degradation is inevitable, iron oxide NPs significantly preserved the WPCs surface. However, there were also crack formations, which were also inhibited. On the other hand, NPs decelerated the thermal degradation by acting as a heat barrier. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) analysis revealed an increase in the degradation temperature. Nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) can be converted into carbon materials for the fabrication of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) as well as serve as a substrate for the incorporation of transition metal oxides (TMOs) to restrain the volume expansion, one of the most significant challenges of TMO-based LIBs. To improve the electrochemical performance and enhance the longer cycling stability of LIBs, a nanocrystalline cellulose-supported iron oxide (Fe2O3) composite (denoted as NCC–Fe2O3) is synthesized and utilized as electrodes in LIBs. The obtained NCC–Fe2O3 electrode exhibited stable cycling performance, better capacity, and high-rate capacity, and delivered a specific discharge capacity of 576.70 mAh g−1 at 100 mA g−1 after 1000 cycles. Moreover, the NCC–Fe2O3 electrode was restored and showed an upward trend of capacity after working at high current densities, indicating the fabricated composite is a promising approach to designing next-generation high-energy density lithium-ion batteries. Phosphorus is a limiting factor for eutrophication while also an important nonrenewable resource. Adsorption is one of the most efficient phosphorus pollution control technologies and phosphorus recovery can be promisingly achieved after desorption. The use of iron oxides as adsorbents to remove phosphorus has been extensively studied, due to merits of high adsorption capacity, high selectivity, as well as environmental benign. However, their effectiveness and feasibility in practical applications are still challenged. This review summarized the current achievements of using iron oxides and their modified products to remove phosphorus from wastewater. Phosphorus removal mechanisms and strategies for improving the performance of different types of iron oxide-based adsorbents were summarized. Moreover, the potential methods of phosphorus desorption and subsequent recovery were summarized. Finally, the future challenges on the practical application of iron oxides in phosphorus recovery from wastewater were discussed. Here, amino acids-functionalized iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by utilizing the co-precipitation methodology. The synthesized nanoparticles (including alanine, valine, and phenylalanine-functionalized nanoparticles) were characterized by utilizing several analytical techniques. Acquired outcomes validated the successful formation of amino acid-functionalized iron oxide nanoparticles. The X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy indicated that phenylalanine-based iron oxide nanoparticles exhibited high crystallinity and better fabrication, respectively, in comparison with other amino acids. This was attributed to the development of high hydrophobic interactions of the phenylalanine with the iron oxide nanoparticles. The photocatalytic efficacy of the iron oxide nanoparticles against the methylene blue was investigated by implementing two different optimization strategies (i.e., traditional one-variable-at-a-time kinetics and advanced response surface methodology). The experiment performed by using phenylalanine-functionalized iron oxide nanoparticles as a photocatalyst under optimized conditions revealed that the highest efficacy of 92.91 and 97.12% was obtained by using the one-variable-at-a-time and response surface methodology approaches, respectively, indicating that the latter approach is more effective for the optimization of the understudy reactions. In terms of comparative effectiveness of the reaction parameters, the photocatalyst dose was found to be the most effective emphasizing that special emphasis should be given to this parameter when dealing with the optimization of this reaction on an industrial scale. The total organic carbon analysis further revealed that the mineralization of 90.216% was achieved under optimized reaction conditions. Iron oxide nanoparticles have been attracted extensively due to their supermagnetic properties, preferred in biomedicine because of their biocompatibility and potential nontoxicity to human beings. Synthesis of iron nanoparticles (FeNPs) was prepared with the help of ferric chloride and ferrous sulphate by using the coprecipitation method. The variation and combination of ferric and ferrous concentrations affect the physical and magnetic properties of iron oxide nanoparticles. The effect of 0.1 M ferric and ferrous concentration on iron oxide nanoparticles was studied separately and in combination. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by Particle size, zeta potential, Ultraviolet (UV-visible), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and Vibratingsample magnetometer (VSM) techniques. Particle size was below 200 nm and zeta potential was within the limit for all the batches. UV visible spectra at 224 nm, and FTIR exhibit two peaks at 510 and 594 cm-1, indicating iron oxide NPs and XRD confirmed the crystalline nature of Fe. SEM showed a spherical shape for all batches. The work provides a study of the effects of an external uniform magnetic field on the underwater pulsed discharge burning process. The presence of a magnetic field affects the waveforms of current and voltage, resulting in a decrease in amplitude values and frequency of discharge pulses. The presence of an external magnetic field was found to affect processes of the synthesis of iron oxide powders. Different polymorphic modifications of Fe2O3 were obtained depending on the orientation of the magnetic field. The formation of larger iron oxide nanoparticles is facilitated by the magnetic field. The release of desublimation energy, accompanied by heating, encourages the increasing the degree of crystallinity of samples in the presence of a magnetic field. Shown, that the presence of an external magnetic field has significant effects on the underwater pulsed discharge process, altering the electrical properties of the discharge and influencing the synthesis of oxide nanoparticles. This work designed a mesoscale method of multi-step reduction of Fe 2 O 3 with H 2 based on Lattice Gas Cellular Automata (LGCA). Particles in the LGCA were marked to distinguish all the reactants, intermediates, products, and inert. A self-organized evolutionary mechanism is designed. The hydrogen reduction of Fe 2 O 3 in the temperature range of 460–550 °C and 650–800 °C was simulated. Results show that the intermediate product Fe 3 O 4 was found in both conditions, and its mass fraction quickly reach a peak at ∼0.8 and gradually decrease thereafter. An "induction period" can be identified in the initial stage of the reaction at 650–800 °C, where the reduction rate is slow due to the hindered formation of FeO. The porosity inside the Fe 2 O 3 particles increases continuously through the reduction process, resulting in significant changes in the flow field around the particles. Magnetite quantum dots were synthesized by solvothermal method in a conventional reflux setup, in an inert environment, at different reaction temperatures and times. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns of the as-prepared iron oxide confirmed magnetite crystalline phases irrespective of the reaction conditions. TEM micrographs revealed that the iron oxides obtained at 200, 180 and 165 °C are spherical in shapes with mean particle sizes of 3.25, 3.3 and 3.90 nm respectively, showing an increase in particle size with decreasing temperature. TEM micrographs revealed that particles obtained at 6 and 3 h have a mean particle size of 3.25 nm while particles obtained at 4.5-h has a bigger mean particle size of 7.5 nm. The results show that irrespective of the synthetic parameters, the average particle sizes of the magnetite are in the range 3–8 nm and could be described as quantum dots. Optical absorption spectra of the as-prepared magnetite quantum dots exhibited maximum absorption in the range of 200–210 nm. Fe3O4-1, Fe3O4-2 and Fe3O4-3 synthesized at 200, 180 and 165 °C have energy band gaps of 5.49, 5.13 and 5.01 eV respectively, showing a decrease in band gap with decreasing temperature. Fe3O4-4 and Fe3O4-6 synthesized at 6 and 3 h have optical band gap of 5.44 eV while Fe3O4-5 synthesized at 4.5 h has a band gap of 3.75 eV. Herein we synthesized biochar/iron oxide composite (C/α‐Fe2O3/γ‐Fe2O3) by two‐step calcination method. The prepared C/α‐Fe2O3/γ‐Fe2O3 had a highly pure and a concentration ratio of α‐Fe2O3 and γ‐Fe2O3 about 1 : 1. The optical properties of as‐synthesized C/α‐Fe2O3/γ‐Fe2O3 show a lower bandgap energy (1.90 eV) than that of pure C/α‐Fe2O3 (2.02 eV). The effects of different biochar composite catalysts on the removal of amino black were investigated. Upon illumination, the total removal rate of amino black dye by C/α‐Fe2O3/γ‐Fe2O3 catalyst reached 98 %, which was about 1.7 times that of C/α‐Fe2O3. In addition, the coercivity and the remanence intensity of C/α‐Fe2O3/γ‐Fe2O3 is respectively 1.81 times and 7.17 times that of C/α‐Fe2O3. The catalyst could be magnetically separated and reused for five times with a slight loss of its reactivity. The utilization of nanoparticles to enhance bacterial activity and boost hydrogen production in fermentation processes has gained significant attention due to their unique properties such as high specific surface area and quantum size. This research aimed to improve the biohydrogen yield from food waste by adding iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4) at various concentrations (50, 75, 100, 150, and 200 mg/l) and titanium dioxide (TiO 2) at different amounts (25–150 mg/l) to a single-stage hybrid (dark/photo) fermentation reactor. After obtaining the optimal amount of these two nanoparticles, the effect of synergic addition of nanoparticles on hydrogen production yield, was investigated at ratios of Fe 3 O 4 /TiO 2 = 50/50 and 100/50 mg/mg. At the ratio of Fe 3 O 4 /TiO 2 = 100/50, the cumulative hydrogen production and yield of hydrogen have increased from 1613 to 3392 ml and 101.60 to 213.66 mlH 2 /gVS, respectively, compared to the control experiment. We also found that the COD removal rate has enhanced from 28% to 40.1%. There are many nanoparticle preparation techniques such as the biological approach sol-gel method and physical methods, etc. However, the co-precipitation approach requires few chemical reagents and reaction time as well as produces highly pure products with comparatively lower costs among the available techniques. In present work co-precipitation method is use to synthesize magnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles, followed by characterization to check its applicability and the presence of undesired substrate. UV–visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) were examined to determine the synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The nanoparticles' sizes lies between 1 nm to 100 nm, according to the SEM and HR-TEM analyses. XRD measurements verified the crystalline characteristics of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles. Dielectric spectroscopy of synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticle pellets has been investigated at a wide frequency range 0.1 to 105 Hz. Capacitance and dielectric permittivity of Fe3O4 nanoparticles decrease continuously with frequency as dipole gets less time to orient in the field. The dielectric permittivity of Fe3O4 pellets increases up to 3 mm thickness and subsequently drops, perhaps because a rise in resistance. The electrical conductivity of Fe3O4 rises exponentially with frequency. According to the dielectric studies, the dielectric permittivity and electrical conductivity of Fe3O4 are greatly dependent on the thickness and extent of frequency. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), a type of non-protein-coding and small RNAs, are encouraging molecular biomarkers for prior diagnosis of the certain diseases. Here, an electrochemical sensor based on iron oxide/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate (Fe3O4/PEDOT:PSS) hybrid coated glassy carbon electrode (GCE) is reported to determine microRNA-21 (miRNA-21) as a biosensing platform based on hybridization event. The biosensor was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements. The Fe3O4/PEDOT:PSS demonstrated good sensing performance, including a wide detection range (0.1 pM-1 µM) and a low detection limit (0.023 pM) for potential medical applications. This article presents a literature review of the iron oxide nanoparticles synthesis routes with applications as nanocatalysts in the synthesis of carbon nanostructures using the plastic pyrolysis method. Through pyrolysis, it is possible to synthesize structures such as single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), and carbon nanofibers (CNFs). The morphological and chemical properties of the nanocatalysts ensure the majority production with minimal defects of these nanostructures. Regarding the iron oxide nanocatalyst, this review emphasizes the importance of parameters such as its shape and size, properties that are controlled during the synthesis process, and the significance of the interaction between nanoparticles and the support material used. Purpose: Iron oxides are ubiquitous natural components in sediments and have been documented to play a prominent role in controlling the geochemical and environmental behavior of contaminants. However, the influence of iron oxides on the toxicity of contaminants in sediments has not been well illustrated. This study aims to investigate the impacts of iron oxides on the toxicity of pentachlorophenol (PCP), a historically used agrochemical and persistent organic pollutant, using the freshwater chironomid of Chironomus riparius. Methods: Two representative iron oxides, goethite and hematite, were added (1%—5%, w/w) to PCP-spiked sediments. The 10-d median lethal concentration (LC50) values of PCP to C. riparius were measured by sediment toxicity tests. Speciation of iron oxides was conducted by analyzing amorphous iron oxides (Feo) and free iron oxides (Fed) in the sediments. Results: Adding goethite into the sediments generally increased LC50 values, while hematite did not, probably because of the strong adsorption of PCP to goethite by electrostatic interactions. Neither Feo (p = 0.08 > 0.05) nor Fed (p = 0.97 > 0.05) had a significant relationship with LC50, whereas their ratio (Feo/Fed) positively correlated with LC50 (p = 0.03 < 0.05). Conclusion: Goethite reduces the toxicity of PCP in the sediments, while hematite does not obviously change the toxicity. Elevated Feo/Fed values result in a decrease of the toxicity. The shape memory polymers (SMPs) is a potential alternative material for conventional shape memory alloys (SMAs) in various fields. Previous studies have focused on the application of SMPs materials as an alternative to SMAs. However, considering problems such as the poor mechanical properties, its application has been limited. This study developed a biodegradable, magnetically responsive SMPs material that can be used for medical implants with shape memory behavior under magnetic force and improved mechanical properties by adding nanoparticles. Moreover, effect of the added nanoparticle was investigated due to contents ratio. Nanocomposite was synthesized with polycaprolactone which has shape memory properties, Fe3O4 that generates heat under magnetic field, and carbon nanotubes with reinforcing effect. The morphology analysis confirmed the homogeneous dispersion of the Fe3O4/Carbon‐nanotubes (CNTs) in polymer matrix. The tensile test shows that tensile strength (14.9–17.6 MPa) increased when Fe3O4 (0–20 wt%) was included and that it did not increase significantly when CNTs (0–0.8 wt%) were included. The shape memory test result confirmed that developed composite had a shape memory under a magnetic field. It was confirmed that even if Fe3O4 was incorporated into polycaprolactone, did not lose its exothermic properties under magnetic field. The developed polymer showed high shape memory ratio (91%–98%) in all the nanoparticle content rates. With regard to biodegradability, weight loss occurred over time in the phosphate‐buffered saline solution. Therefore, the biocompatible, biodegradable, magnetic response shape memory polymer developed in this study might applied to various medical implant as advanced shape memory materials. The release of antibiotics has attracted wide attention due to their abuse and discharge. How to remove these emerging contaminants is an urgent need to be solved. In the present study, sludge-based biochar combining chitosan and iron oxide was prepared via municipal sewage sludge. The novel biochar modified with chitosan and iron oxide exhibited satisfying performance in eliminating antibiotics from water. The application of modified biochar combined with activated persulfate (PS) showed a remarkable removal efficiency of 96.98% for tetracycline (TC). Analysis of the surface characteristics of the modified biochar showed the presence of structural defects, dispersed iron oxides, abundant functional groups, a porous structure, and a relatively stable crystal structure. These characteristics attributed significant importance to facilitating the degradation of TC. A series of experimental conditions including preparation temperature (600–900 ℃), reaction temperature (15–45 ℃), contaminant concentration (30–180 mg/L), adsorbent usage (0.1–1 g/L), pH (2–10), and persulfate addition concentration (1–5 mmol) were conducted. The results revealed that the highest removal efficiency was achieved at 96.98% under the conditions of TC concentration at 30 mg/L, reaction temperature at 35 ℃, pH of 4, adsorbent addition amount of 0.6 g/L, and PS concentration of 2 mmol, respectively. Three degradation pathways and seven intermediate products of TC were proposed. Therefore, our study provides a promising approach for developing effective removal of antibiotic pollutants. Arsenic in water at low concentration (1–5 mg/L) presents difficulty in its removal by adsorption due to low concentration gradient. In the present study, silica was extracted from rice husk ash via sol–gel method and loaded with iron oxide using co-precipitation method. The maximum removal As(III) percentage (97.5%) was achieved using 0.1 g/L of adsorbent with a contact time of 90 min at pH = 7.0. Modelling of the experimental data with Freundlich isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models showed the highest regression coefficient (R2 > 0.95). Adsorption was spontaneous at all temperatures (∆G° value). Film and intraparticle diffusivities followed power-law model with initial concentration. FTIR spectra (at 825 cm−1) indicated the presence of monodentate arsenic complexes. The presence of PO43- ions affected the As(III) removal from water. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a known pollutant that must be captured from gas streams. Dry desulfurization processes are investigated due to their lower energy requirement and potentially high capture efficiency. Carbon materials and metal oxides have been shown to have an affinity with SO2. The aim of this study was to combine iron oxide and graphene oxide (GO) as a composite material for SO2 capture for low-concentration streams. Iron oxide particles were prepared using a polyol method in which the precursor was dispersed in ethylene glycol, heated under reflux and then deposited on GO, a two-dimensional, single-layer material with a surface area of 400 m2/g. The synthesized material was tested for continuous desulfurization in a flow-through capture system with a stream of gas containing 25 ppm SO2 entering at 20 °C and 100 °C. Under all conditions tested, the breakthrough times, evaluated when the SO2 started to be detected at the outlet with a concentration of 1 ppm, as well as the capture capacities, were significantly higher for the iron oxide GO composite than for the pristine GO alone. The presence of sulfur compounds as well as the composite composition were confirmed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The breakthrough experiment results at various temperatures also suggest that the capture was not governed only by pure physical adsorption with the presence of iron oxide. Bimetallic nanoparticles (BMNPs) combine unique and synergistic properties of two metals, allowing new specific applications. In this study, bimetallic AuFe nanoparticles and their conjugates with methotrexate (MTX) were obtained with an environmentally safe method of metal-vapor synthesis. The composition and electronic structure of the particles were investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectrum and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES and EXAFS). The effects of BMNP-MTX conjugates on human primary cells and tumor cell lines were evaluated with neutral red uptake and MTT in vitro cytotoxicity assays. Bright-field microscopy analyses of tumor spheroid size and evaluations of tumor spheroid vitality based on SFDA AM staining were carried out. In vitro assays for an antibacterial activity evaluation of the generated samples were performed. The influence of BMNP-MTX on cytokine production with normal leukocytes was assessed using ELISA. X-ray analyses of the samples demonstrated that gold was in the ground state Au0 as well as Au+ and Au3+ states are present in small quantities, whereas iron existed as a mixture of non-histometric oxides with states close to Fe2+ and Fe3+. The modification of the AuFe system with MTX is accompanied by a threefold increase in the relative proportion of the Au+ state. BMNP-MTX conjugates demonstrated significant antitumor activity compared to the drug alone, which proves the ability of the generated nanoconjugates to improve the effectiveness of MTX therapy. This was confirmed by a marked reduction in the size and vitality of AuFe-MTX-treated 3D tumor spheroids. In addition to their selective antitumor activity, AuFe-MTX exhibited moderate antibacterial activity and induced sample-specific cytokine production with normal human leukocytes—which points to an immunostimulatory potential. The present findings indicate important and diverse biological properties of BMNP-MTX conjugates and thus highlight perspectives for their biomedical applications and new immune-specific abilities. Fe 2-x Sn x O 3 structures grown by RF-DC magnetron co-sputtering. The band gap of Fe 2 O 3 , SnO 2 , Fe 2-x Sn x O 3 structure was calculated as 2.86, 4.06, 2.77 eV, respectively. The Fe 2 O 3 thin film has shown a tetragonal as well as the SnO 2 structure, however, the Fe 2-x Sn x O 3 (0 < x < 1) has shown rhombohedral structure. XPS measurements have shown change in binding energy which is due to the electron exchange of tin-iron with oxygen, and iron - tin oxide structure. This binding energy increases slightly with the chemical environment effect. The films were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM). In AFM images was seen that the iron oxide structure was pyramidal and the tin oxide structure was spherical, similar to the SEM image. The response of the film to hydrogen gas was measured at flow values of 100, 500 and 1000 ppm at 300 °C. Fe 2 O 3 thin films show 46%, SnO 2 61% and, Fe 2-x Sn x O 3 6.5% response to 1000 ppm H 2 gas. Hematite is a common iron oxide found in nature, and the α‐Fe2O3(0001) plane is prevalent on the nanomaterial utilized in photo‐ and electrocatalytic applications. The atomic‐scale structure of the surface remains controversial despite decades of study, partly because it depends on sample history as well as the preparation conditions. Here, a comprehensive study is performed using an arsenal of surface techniques (non‐contact atomic force microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, low‐energy electron diffraction, and X‐ray photoemission spectroscopy) complemented by analyses of the near surface region by high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy. The results show that the so‐called "bi‐phase" termination forms even under highly oxidizing conditions; a (1 × 1) surface is only observed in the presence of impurities. Furthermore, it is shown that the biphase is actually a continuous layer distorted due to a mismatch with the subsurface layers, and thus not the proposed mixture of FeO(111) and α‐Fe2O3(0001) phases. Overall, the results show how combining surface and cross‐sectional imaging provides a full view that can be essential for understanding the role of the near‐surface region on oxide surface properties. With the urgent demand for clean energy, rechargeable zinc–air batteries (ZABs) are attracting increasing attention. Precious-metal-based electrocatalysts (e.g., commercial Pt/C and IrO2) are reported to be highly active towards the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Nevertheless, the limited catalytic kinetics, along with the scarcity of noble metals, still hinder the practical applications of ZABs. Consequently, it is of great importance to explore efficient bifunctional ORR/OER electrocatalysts with abundant reserves. Although iron oxides are considered to have some of the greatest potential as catalysts among the metal oxides, owing to their excellent redox properties, lower toxicity, simple preparation, and natural abundance, their poor electrical conductivity and high agglomeration still limit their development. In this work, we report a special Se quantum dots@ CoFeOx (Se-FeOx-Co) composite material, which exhibits outstanding bifunctional catalytic properties. And the potential gap between ORR and OER is low at 0.87 V. In addition, the ZAB based on Se-FeOx-Co achieves a satisfactory open-circuit voltage (1.46 V) along with an operation durability over 800 min. [Display omitted] This study presents a comprehensive community data-driven surface complexation modeling framework for simulating potentiometric titration of mineral surfaces. Compiled community data for ferrihydrite, goethite, hematite, and magnetite are fit to produce representative protolysis constants that can reproduce potentiometric titration data collected from multiple literature sources. Using this framework, the impact of surface complexation model type and surface site density (SSD) on the fit quality and protolysis constants can be readily evaluated. For example, the non-electrostatic model yielded a poor data fit compared to diffuse double layer model and constant capacitance models due to the absence of known surface charge effects. The recovery and extraction of uranium is vital to ensure sustainability of nuclear energy production and safety of environment. Herein, we report a facile method to synthesise diglycolamic-acid-functionalized iron oxide@titanium dioxide magnetic nanocomposite (Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 -DGA) as an efficient adsorbent for effective removal of uranium (VI) from aqueous medium. Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 -DGA showed high uranium adsorption performance, with a sorption capacity of 371.8 mg g–1 at pH 6.0 and reached equilibrium within 40 min. The adsorption isotherm fits well with Langmuir and the kinetics follows pseudo-second-order model, respectively. The plausible mechanism of U(VI) adsorption involves the electrostatic interaction between the diglycolamic acid and hydrolysed uranium species. Thermodynamic studies revealed that the adsorption was spontaneous and exothermic in nature. The U(VI)-loaded Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 -DGA could be conveniently separated from aqueous solutions using an external magnet, and further U(VI) is desorbed by adding dil. HCl. Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 -DGA showed exceptional selectivity for U(VI) in presence of various coexisting metal ions and it can be effectively reused for more than 5 times with negligible change in sorption capacity. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the most prevalent neurodegenerative diseases and a major contributor to dementia. Although the cause of this condition has been identified long ago as aberrant aggregations of amyloid and tau proteins, effective therapies for it remain elusive. The complexities of drug development for AD treatment are often compounded by the impermeable blood–brain barrier and low-yield brain delivery. In addition, the use of high drug concentrations to overcome this challenge may entail side effects. To address these challenges and enhance the precision of delivery into brain regions affected by amyloid aggregation, we proposed a transferrin-conjugated nanoparticle-based drug delivery system. The transferrin-conjugated melittin-loaded L-arginine-coated iron oxide nanoparticles (Tf-MeLioNs) developed in this study successfully mitigated melittin-induced cytotoxicity and hemolysis in the cell culture system. In the 5XFAD mouse brain, Tf-MeLioNs remarkably reduced amyloid plaque accumulation, particularly in the hippocampus. This study suggested Tf-LioNs as a potential drug delivery platform and Tf-MeLioNs as a candidate for therapeutic drug targeting of amyloid plaques in AD. Background: Aquaculture is one of the most rapidly expanding food production sectors. Due to intensification, declining water quality parameters negatively impact fish production and the surrounding environment. Thus, it is essential to maintain optimum water quality parameters and aquatic ecosystems for sustainable fish production. This study aims to synthesize nanoparticles (NPs) and evaluate their efficiency against ammonia in cultured fish tanks under diverse conditions. Methods: Bacillus megaterium from the soil sample was isolated and identified. Iron oxide NPs were synthesized using Bacillus megaterium collected from soil samples and characterized by DLS-zeta potential, UV-Vis, XRD, FTIR and TEM analysis. Next, synthesized NPs were evaluated under ex-situ and in-situ conditions to determine their efficacy in removing ammonia from Common carp, Cyprinus carpio culture tanks. Result: B. megaterium was isolated, identified and 16S rRNA gene PCR-amplified sequences confirm the identification of B megaterium. DLS-zeta potential, UV-Vis, XRD, FTIR and TEM analysis revealed the quality of synthesized NPs. B. megaterium from the soil sample was isolated and identified. The mean zeta potential of the biosynthesized NPs was between -4.65 to -6.45 mV and had an average size of 5 nm. The concentration of ammonia in aerated tanks treated with iron NPs reduced to less than 0.03 mg/L from 0.3 mg/L. Also, fish mortality in these tanks was significantly controlled with the application of NPs. The application of NPs considerably reduced fish mortality in these fish tanks. Iron oxide NPs from B. megaterium can produce high-quality NPs that are efficient in removing ammonia from fish culture tanks. Iron oxide (FeO) nanoparticles have gained considerable interest from researchers over the past few decades and have a massive effect on wave absorption materials, magnetic fluid, adsorbent, and a variety of industrial applications. In this study, ferric nitrate, sodium hydroxide, and ammonium hydroxide coalesced to form FeO nanoparticles using the chemical co-precipitation approach. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-VIS analysis, Photoluminesence (PL) spectrum analysis, and electrochemical measurements were used to characterize FeO nanoparticles. As per XRD, the sample's crystallite size was 22.63 nm and 22.64 nm after it was annealed at 300∘C and 400∘C, respectively. Utilizing XRD, the diffraction patterns were seen. The particles appear to have a fine surface and smooth shape, as seen by SEM photographs. For the detection of FeO nanoparticles, optical and electrochemical examinations were carried out. Nanoparticle-based drugs offer attractive advantages like targeted delivery to the diseased site and size and shape-controlled properties. Therefore, understanding the particulate flow of the nanodrugs is important for effective delivery, accurate prediction of required dosage, and developing efficient drug delivery platforms for nanodrugs. In this study, the transport of nanodrugs including flow velocity and deposition is investigated using three model metal oxide nanodrugs of different sizes including iron oxide, zinc oxide, and combined Cu-Zn-Fe oxide synthesized via a modified polyol approach. The hydrodynamic size, size, morphology, chemical composition, crystal phase, and surface functional groups of the water-soluble nanodrugs were characterized via dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray, X-ray diffraction, and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, respectively. Two different biomimetic flow channels with customized surfaces are developed via 3D printing to experimentally monitor the velocity and deposition of the different nanodrugs. A diffusion dominated mechanism of flow is seen in size ranges 92 nm to 110 nm of the nanodrugs, from the experimental velocity and mass loss profiles. The flow velocity analysis also shows that the transport of nanodrugs is controlled by sedimentation processes in the larger size ranges of 110–302 nm. However, the combined overview from experimental mass loss and velocity trends indicates presence of both diffusive and sedimentation forces in the 110–302 nm size ranges. It is also discovered that the nanodrugs with higher positive surface charges are transported faster through the two test channels, which also leads to lower deposition of these nanodrugs on the walls of the flow channels. The results from this study will be valuable in realizing reliable and cost-effective in vitro experimental approaches that can support in vivo methods to predict the flow of new nanodrugs. This comprehensive study investigates the properties of chemical nanomagnetic iron oxide particles (CNMIOPs) synthesized through a chemical method. The primary objective is to examine how pH levels and washing solvents affect the magnetism properties of these nanoparticles. Three different pH levels (1.2, 7.5, and 12.5) using NaOH and two washing solvents (ethanol and water) are employed. The characterization techniques include FTIR, SEM, TEM, XRD, ZSP, and VSM. Furthermore, the study incorporates two specific pH- and solvent-dependent CNMIOPs into PCL electrospun materials to analyze their performance in a targeted application. The results show that pH and the washing process significantly affect the CNMIOPs' properties. Higher pH levels result in smaller particles with higher crystallinity and reduce crystalline anisotropy. SEM and TEM analysis confirm different morphologies, including cubic, spherical, and elongated shapes. Ethanol-washed CNMIOPs exhibit superior magnetic behavior, with the highest magnetization saturation at pH 12.5 (Ms = 58.3 emu/g). The stability of the CNMIOPs ranges from −14.7 to −23.8 mV, and higher pH levels exhibit promising antioxidant activity. Furthermore, the study explores the effects of pH and washing solvents on CNMIOP-infused nanofiber membranes, with better dispersion observed with ethanol washing. An advanced version of the solution combustion synthesis (SCS) method was developed to prepare iron oxide (IO) nanoparticles, through controlling the agglomeration, size and shape of nanoparticles by assisting a cationic surfactant, "cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)" and ethanol. Various IO nanoparticles were prepared in the presence of different CTAB:ethanol molar compositions of 0:0, 0.27:0, 0.55:0, 0.27:17.1, 0.55:17.1 and 0.82:17.1. The morphological evolution from agglomerated-shape particles to the well-dispersed as well as the size- and shape-controlled particles depended directly on the CTAB:ethanol molar composition. A shift from ferromagnetic behavior to superparamagnetic was observed by the application of CTAB along with ethanol, where the lowest blocking temperature (T b , 60 K), highest saturation magnetization (M s , 83.5 emu g−1), zero coercivity and remanance magnetization were revealed for the particles prepared by CTAB:ethanol molar compositions of 0.55:17.1. These particles showed an acceptable specific absorption rate (SAR) value (320 W g−1) as well as no obvious hemolytic and cytotoxic effects. This work provides new insights into advancing the SCS method and thus controlling the morphology, size and shape of metal oxide nanoparticles.
