Social work in the German rehabilitation sector is practiced with great variation and its interventions lack research evidence. The SWIMMER project aims to develop a program theory of social work in rehabilitation to explain this variation and to discuss possible conditions. The dealing with ethical dilemmas by social workers is one possible influence and the focus of this paper. The social workers' practice was analyzed using the triple mandate, a German-Swiss concept that describes three possible, sometimes simultaneous directives without a concrete call to action from society, the client or the profession. This qualitative, case-comparative research project collected data from interviews with social workers and managers, participant observation and counseling sessions in ten German rehabilitation facilities. Social workers were confronted with all three mandates. They prioritized either the societal mandate or the client mandate. A consequence for social work practice was the limitation of options under social law (mandate by society). Social workers relied on their professional experience to reflect on the mandates. They used a variety of strategies when faced with conflicting mandates. The research project has succeeded in systematizing the orientations of social workers in goal conflicts. Health professionals often need to work together to provide team-based care. With increasing healthcare complexities and manpower shortages, more health professionals are working in multiple, fluid teams instead of one stable team, to provide care to patients. However, there is currently no validated instrument to measure the quality of interprofessional collaboration in fluid teams. One approach is to assess team members' perceived level of teamness (qualities that make clinical teams effective). This study aimed to examine the validity evidence of using the Assessment for Collaborative Environment (ACE-15) in fluid teams and investigate if teamness varies among health professions and clinical settings. Content and response process validity were gathered through consulting experts and cognitive interviews, resulting in revisions to 11 of 15 items in ACE-15. Through exploratory factor analysis of 194 responses on the revised ACE-15, a 13-item instrument, ACE-13F, with strong validity evidence for use in fluid teams was developed. A two-factor fixed effect ANOVA model revealed that the clinical setting that health professionals work in has a significant impact on the level of teamness (F[3,170] = 6.15, p <.001, η2 = 0.09). Background: The role of rural family physicians continues to evolve to accommodate the comprehensive care needs of aging societies. For older individuals in rural areas, rehabilitation is vital to ensure that they can continue to perform activities of daily living. In this population, a smooth discharge following periods of hospitalization is essential and requires management of multimorbidity, and rehabilitation therapists may require support from family physicians to achieve optimal outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate changes in the roles of rural family physicians in patient rehabilitation. Methods: An ethnographic analysis was conducted with rural family physicians and rehabilitation therapists at a rural Japanese hospital. A constructivist grounded theory approach was applied as a qualitative research method. Data were collected from the participants via field notes and semi-structured interviews. Results: Using a grounded theory approach, the following three themes were developed regarding the establishment of effective interprofessional collaboration between family physicians and therapists in the rehabilitation of older patients in rural communities: 1) establishment of mutual understanding and the perception of psychological safety; 2) improvement of relationships between healthcare professionals and their patients; and 3) creation of new roles in rural family medicine to meet evolving needs. Conclusion: Ensuring continual dialogue between family medicine and rehabilitation departments helped to establish understanding, enhance knowledge, and heighten mutual respect among healthcare workers, making the work more enjoyable. Continuous collaboration between departments also improved relationships between professionals and their patients, establishing trust in collaborative treatment paradigms and supporting patient-centered approaches to family medicine. Within this framework, understanding the capabilities of family physicians can lead to the establishment of new roles for them in rural hospitals. Family medicine plays a vital role in geriatric care in community hospitals, especially in rural primary care settings. The role of family medicine in hospitals should be investigated in other settings to improve geriatric care and promote mutual learning and improvement among healthcare professionals. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected over 700 million people globally, straining healthcare systems and highlighting the need for interprofessional collaboration. The aim of this study was to describe interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) experiences from the perspectives of occupational therapists (OTs) and physical therapists (PTs) who were employed in a medical center both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. This qualitative study, conducted from July 2020–November 2021, delved into the lived experiences of occupational and physical therapists in an inpatient setting during the pandemic through analysis of semi-structured interviews and journal entries. The pandemic prompted fear, uncertainty, and ethical dilemmas among therapists, affecting patient-centered care. Roles expanded, and teamwork challenges emerged in defining boundaries, while communication dynamics were transformed by virtual technologies. The pandemic affected therapists' values and ethics, and evolving roles brought expanded tasks. The crisis showcased both collaboration potential and the need to address team disparities. This study highlights the significance of values, roles, teams, and communication for occupational and physical therapists during the COVID-19 pandemic providing valuable insights into interprofessional collaboration's effect on healthcare delivery in times of crisis and beyond. Introduction: Older people admitted to hospital are highly susceptible to functional decline and related complications. Care supporting their functioning is complex and requires healthcare professionals working in concert, with nurses playing a central role. Yet, little is known about nurses' perceptions of interprofessional collaboration (IPC) in care supporting functioning in acutely admitted older people. To fill this knowledge gap, we elucidate the perspectives of nurses in Ontario, Canada, on IPC in care supporting older people's functioning during a hospital stay. Methods: We employed a qualitative methodology in conjunction with a qualitative descriptive design. Thirteen focus groups were held with a purposeful, criterion‐based sample of 57 acute care nurses practising in a range of acute care settings (e.g. Emergency, General Medicine, General Surgery, Intensive Care, Coronary Care). Data were thematically analysed. Results: We identified two overarching themes: (1) IPC is improving, but nurses are excluded from decision‐making and (2) nurse advocacy causes friction with other professionals. The first theme captures nurses' perception that IPC in older people's care is improving, but nurses are marginalised in interprofessional decision‐making. As a result, nurses perceive that their knowledge is devalued, and their contributions to care supporting older people's functioning are undermined. The second theme underlines a tension between interprofessional team practices and patient‐ and family‐centred care, while also demonstrating nurses' increasing willingness to act as patient and family advocates. Conclusions: Findings can be used to enhance IPC in care supporting the functioning of acutely hospitalised older people. To improve IPC, clinical and administrative leaders should cultivate more egalitarian team relationships that encourage nurses to contribute to decision‐making and advocate on behalf of older patients and their families. Implementation of pharmaceutical care for the benefit of patients and health services has been highlighted worldwide. Interprofessional collaboration between nurses, pharmacists, and physicians may contribute to raising awareness of pharmacological challenges, increasing quality, and minimising errors in pharmaceutical care. This study aimed to investigate how nurses, pharmacists, and physicians experience interprofessional collaboration in pharmaceutical care within community healthcare in Norway. The study had an explorative and descriptive design with a qualitative approach. Individual interviews were conducted with 12 healthcare personnel with key roles in pharmaceutical care within community healthcare services. The data were analysed using systematic text condensation. The results revealed three categories and four subcategories: The category "Professional challenges" contained the subcategories "Blurred responsibilities" and "The importance of trust and continuity". The category "Organisational barriers" contained the subcategories "Lack of information exchange and suitable communications channels" and "Lack of time and meeting places". The third category was "Nurses—the important link". This study reveals challenges to and factors of success in increasing high-quality and safe pharmaceutical care, knowledge that can be used in quality work in the community health services and as input in curriculum development for the three professions. Recent developments in Hong Kong end-of-life (EOL) care have shifted some caring work for dying people and their families to cross-disciplinary collaboration in community settings. Social-medical collaboration becomes especially important. This study aims to use social capital as an analytical lens to examine the processes and mechanisms of social-medical collaboration in EOL care and elucidate practice implications for engaging in the care of dying people and their families. Qualitative data were collected using in-depth interviews. Three major conceptual categories were generated through grounded theory methodology. They are (a) establishing trust through keeping clear and simple boundaries, (b) cultivating mutuality in the multi-disciplinary meeting, and (c) fostering social-medical collaboration in EOL care. Each new stage is based on the social capital accumulated in the previous one through the social interactions between professionals. Done well, ward rounds (WRs) promote effective, safe care and collaboration; but WR quality varies. An improvement-focused appreciative inquiry (AI) into a large intensive care unit's WR practices identified a pivotal axis of collaboration between the most senior medical role (the consultant) and the bedside nurse (BSN). This paper examines that axis of interprofessional collaboration (IPC) to deepen understanding of its implications. Data included ethnographic observations, interviews, and co-constructed AI with groups of staff. Four key concepts emerged from cyclical interpretive analysis: "need," "presence," "ability" and "willingness." BSNs and consultants needed the interprofessional WR to enable their work; WR effectiveness was affected by whether they were both present, then able and willing to participate in IPC. BSN presence was necessary for effective and efficient IPC between these key roles. Indirect contributions, based on prior exchanges with colleagues or through written notes, reduced the joint problem-solving through discussion and negotiation that characterizes IPC to less efficient asynchronous interprofessional coordination. Factors affecting "presence," "ability" and "willingness" are discussed alongside potential mitigations and acknowledgment of asymmetric power. Introduction: Poor nutritional status can impair oral health while poor oral health can influence the individual's dietary intake, which may result in malnutrition. This interaction between nutritional status and oral health in older age requires attention, coordination and collaboration between healthcare professionals. This qualitative study explores dental hygienists' and dietitians' opinions about current collaboration with the aim of identifying success factors and barriers to this interprofessional collaboration. Methods: Three focus group interviews were held with Dutch dental hygienists and dietitians about nutritional and oral healthcare in community‐dwelling older people. Results: In total, 9 dietitians and 11 dental hygienists participated in three online focus group interviews. Dental hygienists and dietitians seldom collaborated or consulted with each other. They struggled with the professional boundaries of their field of expertise and experienced limited knowledge about the scope of practice of the other profession, resulting in conflicting information to patients about nutrition and oral health. Interprofessional education was scarce during their professional training. Organizational and network obstacles to collaborate were recognized, such as limitations in time, reimbursement and their professional network that often does not include a dietitian or dental hygienist. Conclusion: Dental hygienists and dietitians do not collaborate or consult each other about (mal)nutrition or oral health in community‐dwelling older people. To establish interprofessional collaboration, they need to gain knowledge and skills about nutrition and oral health to effectively recognize problems in nutritional status and oral health. Background: Care of older adults requires comprehensive management and control of systemic diseases, which can be effectively managed by family physicians. Complicated medical conditions in older patients admitted to orthopedic departments (orthopedic patients) necessitate interprofessional collaboration. Nutrition is one of the essential components of management involved in improving the systemic condition of older patients. Nutrition support teams play an important role in nutrition management and can be supported by family physicians. However, the role of family physicians in nutrition support teams is not well documented. This study aimed to investigate the role of family physicians in supporting nutrition management in orthopedic patients. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted between January and June 2023 using constructivist grounded theory methodology. Eight family medicine physicians, three orthopedic surgeons, two nurses, two pharmacists, four rehabilitation therapists, four nutritionists, and one laboratory technician working in Japanese rural hospitals participated in the research. Data collection was performed through ethnography and semi-structured interviews. The analysis was performed iteratively during the study. Results: Using a grounded theory approach, four theories were developed regarding family physicians' role in providing nutrition support to orthopedic patients: hierarchical and relational limitation, delay of onset and detection of the need for geriatric care in orthopedic patients, providing effective family medicine in hospitals, and comprehensive management through the nutrition support team. Conclusions: The inclusion of family physicians in nutrition support teams can help with early detection of the rapid deterioration of orthopedic patients' conditions, and comprehensive management can be provided by nutrition support teams. In rural primary care settings, family physicians play a vital role in providing geriatric care in community hospitals in collaboration with specialists. Introduction: Although there is evidence that interprofessional, person-centred, integrated care is important for optimising pharmaceutical care of older people with polypharmacy, this way of working is often not implemented in practice. The aim of this study was to identify common characteristics of successful interprofessional initiatives and factors influencing their implementation, in order to close this know-do gap. Methods: A qualitative, explorative design with in-depth semi-structured interviews was used. Flemish primary healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients aged over 75, involved in successful initiatives of interprofessional pharmaceutical care for older people with polypharmacy, were included. Inductive analysis was conducted to identify main topics. Results: Fifteen HCPs and four patients, involved in nine interprofessional initiatives, were interviewed. In all initiatives the HCPs had interprofessional consultations about older people with polypharmacy. The interaction between the characteristics of the initiatives and the context had an important impact on the implementation. These context factors were positioned under the micro-, meso- and macro context. Implementation strategies, actions to enhance the initiatives' adoption, corresponded with three themes: communication and influence, coordination by different stakeholders, and (dis)incentives. Conclusion: The identification of these success factors might inspire HCPs, providers of interprofessional education and policymakers to facilitate interprofessional pharmaceutical care. Aim: To understand advanced nurse and midwife practitioners' experience of interprofessional collaboration in implementing evidence-based practice into routine care. Design: A qualitative interpretative phenomenological analysis. Methods: A purposeful sample of 10 Registered Advanced Nurse and Midwife Practitioners from a range of practice settings in the Republic of Ireland participated in semi-structured interviews over a 10-month timeframe. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and data were analysed using a multi-stage approach in line with guidance for interpretative phenomenological analysis. Results: Six superordinate themes emerged: Understanding of advanced practice; ‘Treated as an equal and as a “nurse”’; Nursing management support; ‘A voice to implement anything new’; Confidence and Emotional intelligence. These factors impacted interprofessional relationships and the extent to which advanced practitioners could implement evidence-based practice. Conclusion: There is scope to improve advanced practitioners' ability to collaborate with the interprofessional team in implementing evidence-based practice into routine care. Impact and Implications: The study findings demonstrate that enhancing understanding of the advanced practice role; increasing organizational support for advanced practitioners and augmenting specific practitioner skills and attributes will increase their ability to collaborate effectively and implement evidence-based practice. Supporting advanced practitioners in this important aspect of their role will positively influence health outcomes for patients. Contribution to the Wider Global Clinical Community: As numbers of both nurse and midwife practitioners increase globally, this study provides timely evidence from a range of practice settings to guide the design of education programmes and policies governing advanced practice. Background: About one million people in need of home care in Germany are assisted by 15,400 home care services. Home healthcare is mostly a complex endeavour because interprofessional collaboration is often challenging. This might negatively impact patient safety. The project interprof HOME aims to develop an interprofessional person-centred care concept for people receiving home care in a multistep approach. In one of the work packages we explored how people receiving home care, relatives, nurses, general practitioners, and therapists (physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists) perceive collaboration in this setting. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 people receiving home care and with 21 relatives. Additionally, we worked with nine monoprofessional focus groups involving nurses of home care services (n = 17), general practitioners (n = 14), and therapists (n = 21). The data were analysed by content analysis. Results: Three main categories evolved: "perception of interprofessional collaboration", "means of communication", and "barriers and facilitators". People receiving home care and relatives often perceive little to no interprofessional collaboration and take over a significant part of the organisational coordination and information exchange. Interprofessional collaboration in steady care situations does exist at times and mostly occurs in coordination tasks. Contact and information exchange are rare, however, interprofessional personal encounters are sporadic, and fixed agreements and permanent contact persons are not standard. These trends increase with the complexity of the healthcare situation. Joint collaborations are often perceived as highly beneficial. Means of communications such as telephone, fax, or e-mail are used differently and are often considered tedious and time-consuming. No interprofessional formal written or electronic documentation system exists. Personal acquaintance and mutual trust are perceived as being beneficial, while a lack of mutual availability, limited time, and inadequate compensation hinder interprofessional collaboration. Conclusions: Interprofessional collaboration in home care occurs irregularly, and coordination often remains with people receiving home care or relatives. While this individual care set-up may work sufficiently well in low complex care situations, it becomes vulnerable to disruptions with increasing complexity. Close interactions, joint collaboration, and fixed means of communication might improve healthcare at home. The findings were integrated into the development of the person-centred interprofessional care concept interprof HOME. An integrated medication management (IMM) model was implemented in a medical center ward to improve the delivery of clinical pharmaceutical services (CPSs). This model incorporated a ward-based clinical pharmacist who performed medication reconciliation and medication reviews. It was perceived to promote interprofessional collaboration between pharmacists and non-pharmacist healthcare professionals (NPHPs, including attending physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses). This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the IMM on NPHPs' intentions to collaborate with pharmacists and understand the mechanism of the impact of the IMM on interprofessional collaboration. A sequential explanatory mixed methods design was employed in the study. Initially, a questionnaire was administered to assess the effects of the IMM on NPHPs' intentions to collaborate with pharmacists. The NPHPs' experiences with the IMM were then documented using semi-structured interviews with inductive thematic analysis. Fifty-eight NPHPs completed the questionnaire, and NPHPs from the intervention ward reported a higher intention to discuss patient-related medication issues with pharmacists, indicating collaboration. Eleven NPHPs were interviewed, and they stated having better working relationships with pharmacists, experiencing more effective CPSs, and noting improved communication with pharmacists. The integration of quantitative and qualitative findings demonstrates that the critical mechanism of the IMM in promoting collaborative relationships is to integrate pharmacists into medical practice, which familiarizes NPHPs with pharmacists' roles, improves communication, and enables pharmacists to identify NPHPs' needs. To summarize, allowing ward-based pharmacists to engage in medical teams on a regular basis appears vital for improving interprofessional teamwork. Background: Physiotherapy private practitioners represent a growing proportion of Australia's primary care workforce; however, they face significant barriers in integrating seamlessly within interprofessional teams. Historically, the landscape of primary care in Australia has been one where many physiotherapists work in monoprofessional private practice facilities at dispersed locations, potentially limiting collaborative and coordinated care. The aim of this study was to investigate strategies recommended by physiotherapists to promote effective interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) within the Australian private practice setting. Methods: Using interpretive description as the guiding methodological framework, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 28 physiotherapists in 10 private practice sites in Queensland, Australia. Results: Data analysis produced three themes that characterised physiotherapy private practitioners' recommendations to improve IPCP: (a) the need for improved funding and compensation, particularly addressing the limitations of the Medicare Chronic Disease Management program; (b) the development of integrated and secure digital communication systems to facilitate better information exchange; and (c) prioritising professional development and training to enhance collaboration. Conclusions: This research lays the groundwork for informed policy making to advance person-centred care and support the integration of services in the Australian healthcare system. The findings from this study indicate that promoting effective IPCP in physiotherapy private practice requires a comprehensive strategy that addresses systemic funding and compensation issues, enhances digital communication systems and optimises interprofessional education and training. Physiotherapists working in primary care are becoming increasingly important members of interprofessional healthcare teams. This research outlines key strategies from the perspective of Queensland physiotherapy private practitioners, including reforming funding structures, leveraging digital communication and improving education and training initiatives, to promote effective interprofessional collaborative practice. This study explored social workers' experiences of working with professional language interpreters in the disability sector with the goal of developing guiding principles for practice. Despite clients from diverse backgrounds increasingly accessing disability services, interpreter-mediated social work in the disability service context is an under-researched field. Six social workers participated in semistructured interviews. Findings suggest that social work with interpreters is a field of practice comprising practical and interactional challenges, requiring a high degree of professional discretion to optimise client outcomes. Emerging from the research are potential guiding principles for practice emphasising training, adaptability, interprofessional collaboration, person-centredness, and reflexivity. Interpreter-mediated social work in the disability sector presents unique challenges as a practice context. Interpreter-mediated social work is characterised by a complex professional inter-culture, requiring social workers and interpreters to mediate professional power and role negotiation to achieve effective service delivery. Background: Across healthcare broadly, team treatment approaches range from siloed multidisciplinary treatment to synergistic Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPCP), with IPCP increasingly favored. In eating disorders, clinical practice guidelines endorse team outpatient treatment, and these approaches are widely used in clinical practice. However, there is limited evidence to describe attitudes toward and experiences of team approaches, including IPCP, among individuals with a lived experience. Method: Twenty‐seven participants (aged 20–51 years) with a formal eating disorder diagnosis were recruited. Each had received outpatient eating disorder treatment from a team or teams comprising a mental health professional, dietitian, and general practitioner (GP) in the past 2 years. Qualitative data were collected via semi‐structured interviews and analyzed using Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis. Results: Four themes were derived from the qualitative analysis. Themes included: (1) working together is better; (2) the linchpin of teamwork is communication; (3) teams should foster autonomy with limit‐setting; and (4) systemic failures negatively affect team treatment. Participants favored highly collaborative treatment from a team including a mental health professional, dietitian, and GP at a minimum, where the team engaged in high‐quality communication and fostered autonomy with limit‐setting. Systemic failures negatively affecting team treatment were reported across the care continuum. Discussion: Findings endorse the application of IPCP to outpatient eating disorder treatment as a strategy to improve treatment satisfaction, engagement, and outcomes. Given the paucity of evidence exploring IPCP in this field, however, the development and evaluation of interprofessional education and treatment models is a foundational necessity. Public Significance: Team eating disorder treatment is widely used in clinical practice, although there is limited evidence to guide interventions. This study explores attitudes toward and experiences of team outpatient eating disorder treatment among individuals with a lived experience. Understanding preferred team treatment characteristics delivers important information to improve treatment satisfaction, engagement, and outcomes for individuals receiving outpatient eating disorder treatment. In Vietnam, each primary care community health center (CHC) consists of a multi-professional team with six disciplines, including a physician, assistant physician, nurse, pharmacist, midwife, and Vietnamese traditional physician, who are able to meet the majority of patient's needs at the primary care level. How they collaborate, especially in chronic disease management (CDM), is still limited described in the literature. This study aims to gain insight into the perceptions and the experiences of primary health care providers (PHCPs) toward interprofessional collaboration (IPC) in CDM in CHCs in (Hue) Vietnam. A qualitative study of descriptive phenomenology was performed using two focus groups and 15 semi-structured interviews with PHCPs from six professions relevant to CDM in CHCs. The data were analyzed using NVivo 12.0 with a thematic analysis method by a multiprofessional research team. From the analysis, the data were classified into three main themes: "lack of collaborative practice," "knowledge," and "facilitators and barriers to IPC." This study provided evidence of the awareness that actual collaboration in daily care is fragmentarily organized and that PHCPs try to finish their tasks within their profession. PHCPs work multiprofessionally and lack shared decision-making in patient-centered care. There is a need to develop an interprofessional education program and training to address these deficiencies in the Vietnamese context to improve interprofessional collaboration in health care. In Flanders, Belgium, a primary healthcare reform is ongoing to strengthen the health system and work towards improving integrated care. At the core of this transformation stands a person-centred perspective that considers social factors, which increases the tendency for collaboration between health and welfare systems. Primary care physicians and social workers are urged to collaborate; however, the way general practitioners (GPs) define and utilise the role of social work remains unclear. This study explores the perceptions of GPs regarding the role of social work. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with twenty-three GPs, working under both fee-for-service and capitation financing systems, with varying years of experience and in different geographical areas. The findings reveal that physicians recognise the influence of social factors on their patients care needs, yet, struggle with addressing them. Due to limited experience and understanding of the role of social work, GPs primarily focus on its value in individual cases, whilst having less awareness of their role and potential at the neighbourhood, organisational or population level. This study identified different factors that either facilitate or hinder collaboration with social work. The implications for the social work profession and future joint efforts are discussed. Background: People with prediabetes are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes and its complications, such as cardiovascular diseases and premature mortality. Primary prevention and health maintenance are therefore imperative. Evidence has shown that prediabetes can be prevented or delayed with behavioural change, mainly in eating habits and physical activity. Interventions that use a person-centered approach can lead to improvements in self-management, quality of life, and health outcomes. Nevertheless, there is a need for further research that engages healthcare professionals and people with prediabetes in constructing and implementing preventive programs. The purpose of this study is to explore and describe how healthcare professionals perceive prediabetes, the current challenges in its detection and treatment, and what is needed to improve quality of care. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted in Region Stockholm. A total of 26 primary health care professionals participated in individual interviews: 15 diabetes nurses and/or district nurses, five general practitioners, five dietitians, and one physiotherapist. Interview transcripts were analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis revealed two main themes that emphasize the need to make prediabetes more visible in primary health care. Despite the healthcare professionals' engagement and their motivation to improve prediabetes care, ad hoc practices and the absence of clear screening guidelines and referral pathways made it harder to focus on primary prevention. Supporting professionals in implementing structured care for people with prediabetes might encourage more efficient interprofessional collaboration and contribute to better strategies for promoting behavioural change. Conclusions: Establishing prediabetes care guidelines, supporting health care professionals´ knowledge and skills in prediabetes care, and implementing interprofessional referral pathways are some steps to enhance prediabetes detection and care precedence in primary health care. Background: Globally, midwifery‐led birthing units are associated with excellent maternal and neonatal outcomes, and positive childbirth experiences. However, little is known about what aspects of midwife‐led units contribute to favorable experiences and overall satisfaction. Our aim was to explore and describe midwifery service user experiences at Canada's first Alongside Midwifery Unit (AMU). Methods: We used a qualitative, grounded theory approach using semi‐structured interviews with recipients of midwifery care at the AMU. Findings: Data were collected from twenty‐eight participants between September 2018 and March 2020. Our generated theory explains how birth experiences and satisfaction were influenced by how well the AMU aligned with expectations or desired experiences related to the following four themes: (1) maintaining the midwifery model of care, (2) emphasizing control and choice, (3) facilitating interprofessional relationships, and (4) appreciating the unique AMU birthing environment. Conclusion: Canada's first AMU met or exceeded service‐user expectations, resulting in high levels of satisfaction with their birth experience. Maintaining core elements of the midwifery model of care, promoting high levels of autonomy, and facilitating positive interprofessional interactions are crucial elements contributing to childbirth satisfaction in the AMU environment. Background: Widespread and sustained adoption of telemedicine in long‐term residential care is emerging. Nursing home (NH) nurses play a key role in collaborating with remote physicians to manage residents' medical conditions through videoconferencing. Therefore, understanding of interprofessional collaboration and effective communication between nurses and physicians is critical to ensure quality of care and safety during teleconsultations. Aims: To explore NH nurses' and physicians' experiences of interprofessional collaboration and communication during teleconsultations. Methods: A qualitative descriptive design was adopted. Purposive sampling was conducted to recruit 22 physicians and nurses involved in NH teleconsultations. Semi‐structured online interviews were conducted, and data were thematically analyzed. Results: Three themes were identified: (1) Manner of communication in telemedicine, (2) sociocultural influences in collaborative practice, and (3) role expectations in telemedicine. Both nurses and physicians recognized the importance of building and maintaining trust as physicians heavily depended on nurses for provision of objective information for clinical decision‐making. However, practice differences were observed between nurses and physicians during teleconsultations. Sociocultural influences such as power relations and language barriers also affected the nurse–physician relationship and interpersonal communication. Additionally, different performance expectations were identified between nurses and physicians. Conclusion: Interprofessional collaboration in teleconsultations is challenging because of lack of in‐person assessment and dependence on nurses for clinical information. In addition, expectations and communication styles differ among healthcare professionals. This study called for interprofessional telemedicine training with incorporation of shared mental models to improve role clarity and communication. Given the international‐dominated healthcare workforce in long‐term care, the development of cultural competency could also be considered in telemedicine training to enhance nurse–physician collaborative practice. Clinical Relevance: Telemedicine is increasingly adopted in long‐term care settings, where multidisciplinary healthcare professionals from different health institutions are involved in resident care. Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is an important aspect of high-quality care in intensive care units (ICUs). The practice of IPC, however, is complex and the components that constitute IPC are not well defined. We sought to identify distinct behaviors embedded in clinician workflow that indicate engagement in the IPC process. We conducted a clinical ethnography in two ICUs in southeastern Michigan. From March 2017 to March 2019, we collected 31 hours of observations and completed 12 separate clinician shadowings and 12 interviews with ICU nurses, physicians, and respiratory therapists. We applied an iterative analytical approach to identify two types of IPC behaviors which we a priori labeled as "enablers" (i.e. the ways clinicians transition into or facilitate collaboration) and "collaborative activities" (i.e. behaviors clinicians use to directly collaborate with other professionals). 18 IPC behaviors were identified – ten "enablers" and eight "collaborative activities." Specifically, the enablers include: active listening, approach, coordinating work, intraprofessional consultation, invitation, nonverbal accessibility, reflexive questioning, sending pages/call, validation, and verbal accessibility. The collaborative activities are: correction, fill in the gap, information exchange, negotiation, providing help, socializing, teaching/training, and troubleshooting. By identifying IPC behaviors embedded in clinician workflow, our results may support more focused assessments of IPC in practice and guide clinicians toward behaviors they can use to engage in the IPC process. Aim: To describe parents' experiences with interprofessional collaboration (IPC) in neonatal pain management. Background: Neonatal care should be based on IPC, and non‐pharmacological pain‐relieving methods are recommended to be used primarily that enables parental participation. However, there is a lack of knowledge about pain management on IPC from the parent's viewpoint. Design: A descriptive qualitative study. Method: The research involved a purposive sample of parents (n = 16) whose infant had been treated at a neonatal intensive care unit in Finland. Interviews were conducted with participants from all over Finland who were recruited through the national association for premature infants. Parents discussed their experiences during semi‐structured interviews which were guided by the subareas of IPC, partnership, cooperation and coordination. The data were analysed using deductive‐inductive content analysis. The reporting of results followed COREQ guidelines. Results: Based on the parent's experiences the partnership involved themes of understanding the neonatal pain management context, being able to influence the pain management, and feeling valued. Cooperation included themes of identifying different roles and equality. Coordination was described through the sharing of knowledge, skills and expertise, as well as feeling supported by professionals. Conclusion: Parental involvement on IPC should be developed through interventions that involve training around pain assessment and non‐pharmacological pain‐relief methods. Relevance for clinical practice: Professionals involved in neonatal care should act in a goal‐oriented and unified manner to promote a culture of care that allows for active parental participation. Context: Interprofessional collaboration is recommended in caring for frail older adults in primary care, yet little is known about how interprofessional teams approach end-of-life (EOL) conversations with these patients. Objective: To understand the factors shaping nurses' and allied health clinicians' involvement, or lack of involvement in EOL conversations in the primary care of frail older adults. Methods/setting: A critical ethnography of a large interprofessional urban Family Health Team in Ontario, Canada. Data production included observations of clinicians in their day-to-day activities excluding direct patient care; one-to-one semi-structured interviews with clinicians; and document review. Analysis involved coding data using an interprofessional collaboration framework as well as an analysis of the normative logics influencing practice. Participants: Interprofessional clinicians (n = 20) who cared for mildly to severely frail patients (Clinical Frailty Scale) at the Family Health Team. Results: Findings suggest primary care nurses and allied health clinicians have the knowledge, skills, and inclination to engage frail older adults in EOL conversations. However, the culture of the clinic prioritizes biomedical care, and normalizes nurses and allied health clinicians providing episodic task-based care, which limits the possibility for these clinicians' engagement in EOL conversations. The barriers to nurses' and allied health clinicians' involvement in EOL conversations are rooted in neoliberal-biomedical ideologies that shapes the way primary care is governed and practiced. Conclusions: Our findings help to explain why taking an individual-level approach to addressing the challenge of delayed or avoided EOL conversations, is unlikely to result in practice change. Instead, primary care teams can work to critique and redevelop quality indicators and funding models in ways that promote meaningful interprofessional practice that recognize the expertise of nursing and allied health clinicians in providing high quality primary care to frail older patients, including EOL conversations. Introduction: Blended learning has taken on new prominence in the fields of higher and continuing education, especially as programs have shifted in response to teaching in a global pandemic. The faculty at the Jönköping Academy's Masters in Quality Improvement and Leadership program has been offering a blended learning curriculum, based on four core design principles, since 2009. We studied key features of the enacted curriculum to understand conditions that can support an effective blended learning model. Methods: We used a case study approach underpinned by interactive research. Document analysis, a focus group, individual interviews, and stimulated recall interviews were used for data collection. Themes were identified through qualitative content analysis and data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Results: We grouped data into six emergent themes that clarify the enacted curriculum of an established Master's program: focusing on a common purpose, developing technical and relational knowledge and skills, linking theory and practice in the workplace, leveraging collaboration for mutual benefit, concentrating on leadership and coaching, and applying a blended and interprofessional learning model. Conclusion: Educators faced with increased demands to be flexible and to offer opportunities for distance education can learn from this case example of effective teaching of quality improvement and leadership in a blended format. An early introduction to interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) has many benefits for students. However, pre-health undergraduate (PHU) students have limited exposure to IPCP. Observing patient- and family-centered rounds (PFCR) offer a potential avenue for PHU students to learn about IPCP. This report describes a study wherein PHU students used the High-Value Care Rounding Tool (HVCRT) to collect observational data at Seattle Children's Hospital. Results were shared with a convenience sample of attending physicians (N = 17) from the observed care teams, who then completed a survey about their perceptions of the program. PHU students also participated in semi-structured interviews and surveys (N = 7). Observational data showed a low frequency of HVCRT topics discussed during PFCR (N = 53). Qualitative analysis of interview, survey, and observational data revealed 5 main themes: (1) PHU students provided tangible and actionable feedback on communication techniques for interprofessional teams, (2) PHU students observed PFCR from a family-like perspective, (3) PHU students' feedback was valued by attending physicians, (4) PHU students appreciated structured experiences for their future careers, and (5) PHU students had an engaging learning experience during PFCR. This program offered PHU students a structured shadowing experience and improved their understanding of IPCP, while also providing valuable feedback for health professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Interprofessional education (IPE) allows students in health professional programs to practice providing collaborative patient care before graduating. Understanding the perceptions and experiences of health care professionals' IPE received prior to entering the workforce is key for improving IPE programs. This study investigated participants' post-licensure interprofessional collaboration (IPC) experiences, how IPE helped prepare them for IPC post-licensure, their perceptions of the IPE they received as students, and their suggestions for improving IPE. This qualitative descriptive study included 20 healthcare workers from seven professions who graduated from two of three co-located post-secondary educational institutions. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, which were audiotaped and transcribed verbatim. Inductive thematic analysis revealed five themes and six sub-themes: (a) Quality of care; (b) Role clarification; (c) Interpersonal skills (sub-themes: communication and self-confidence); (d) Co-location; and (e) Need for IPE improvements (sub-themes: additional IPE exposures, shadowing experiences, mandatory IPE, and informal peer learning). These findings appear to reinforce the perception that pre-licensure IPE may support the development of skills for IPC among practicing health professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The interprofessional education collaborative (IPEC) core competencies (CCs) describe standards for effective interprofessional health care practice and education; these standards are updated periodically based on stakeholder feedback. The purpose of this project was to use a qualitative case study approach to describe one multiparous birth trauma survivor's fifth birth experience with an interprofessional birth care team (IBCT) and to juxtapose her experiences and perspectives with the IPEC core competencies (IPEC CCs). This approach enabled us to identify strengths and gaps in the standards for interprofessional health care education and practice specific to perinatal care. Methods: One in‐depth, open‐ended, semi‐structured interview was conducted to elicit the participant's fifth birth experience. Information from her previous births and the IPEC CCs was used to design the interview guide, and we used independent, deductive, consensus coding to identify themes from verbatim transcripts. Results: Three themes were identified: (a) Establishing a therapeutic patient‐provider relationship; (b) Prioritizing communication, respect, and knowledge in person‐centered care; and (c) Shared decision‐making as the crux of collaborative care. The participant's narrative elevated person‐centered, trauma‐informed care (TIC) principles as critical to effective interprofessional birth care and as essential threads for the IPEC CCs. Conclusions: One survivor's positive experience after prior birth trauma illustrates the critical role IPEC CCs may play in collaborative perinatal care provided by IBCTs. In our analysis, we also identify the need to explicitly incorporate TIC principles and person‐centered language in health care competencies that support the standards for perinatal health care education and practice. Following diagnosis, individuals with chronic conditions such as inflammatory arthritis (IA) face learning how to manage multiple new healthcare relationships. Despite existing literature on team care for people with IA, little is known about how teams negotiate care from perspectives of all team members. Objective: To explore how communication is perceived and care is negotiated amongst IA healthcare teams by drawing on the perspectives of each team member. Method: This analysis drew on data from an ongoing three-year study exploring team-based IA care. We interviewed 11 participants including two men with IA and their family care providers and healthcare providers. We used a three-staged analytic process and integrated broad tenets of social network theory to understand the relational dimensions of team members experiences. Result: Analysis revealed three themes regarding communication and care: (1) seeking/sharing information, (2) striving to coordinate unified care, and (3) providing patients a voice. Discussion: This study emphasizes the importance of understanding team dynamics beyond the dyad of patient and care provider. Negotiating power and decision-making in IA care is a dynamic process involving shifting levels of responsibility amongst a care team. Background A new on-site pharmacist (OSP) intervention within residential aged care facilities (RACFs) is being investigated to help improve medication management. Interprofessional collaboration amongst prescribers, nursing staff and pharmacists is critical to improving RACF medication management. Objective To explore the extent of interprofessional collaboration and the nature of the working relationships between OSPs and prescribers, managers and nursing staff. Methods A mixed-methods study was undertaken within the context of a 12-month cluster randomised controlled trial. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with data analysed using framework analysis, and a survey based upon the Physician–Pharmacist Collaboration Index (PPCI) was distributed at two time points (T1 at 3 months and T2 at 9 months after OSP commencement) across seven intervention RACFs. Results The qualitative data (n =  33 interviews) findings related to the processes supportive of these relationships e.g. on-site proximity, OSP personality and perceived (or beneficial) benefits of OSPs working with health care team members (such as OSPs being trusted and providing reassurance to RACF health care team members). The PPCI survey mean scores at T1 (n =  33) and T2 (n =  19) suggested that OSPs were able to establish positive working relationships at 3 months and that positive relationships also existed at 9 months. The integrated findings suggested that the working relationships between OSPs and health care team members were generally positive. Conclusions This study is the first to explore interprofessional collaboration between OSPs and health-care team members in RACFs. Workplace-based learning provides medical students exposure to interprofessional competencies through repeated exposures and active participation in interprofessional learning activities. Using Situated Learning Theory as our theoretical lens, we explored with medical students how interacting with existing interprofessional teams contributes to development of an expanded health care professional identity. An embedded mixed methods study using semi-structured interviews and questionnaires to assess readiness for interprofessional learning was conducted with 14 medical students completing an elective at an interprofessional pain medicine clinic. Within this workplace-based context, a model identifying key themes and supporting factors contributing to the development of an extended professional identity was developed. Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is important for delivering safe patient care and can be enhanced through interprofessional education (IPE). In postgraduate medical education, the most effective model for delivering IPE remains unclear. A multi-site non-randomized mixed methods study was undertaken to investigate the effectiveness of a simulation-based IPE (SB-IPE) intervention on changing attitudes among higher specialty trainee (HST) physicians in general internal medicine and registered nurses (RNs). The intervention, underpinned by intergroup contact theory, is comprised of paired participants (HSTs:RNs) undertaking six simulated scenarios. The Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Interprofessional Collaboration (JeffSATIC) was administered pre-and-post intervention. Focus groups were conducted to explore participants' perceptions of IPC and the SB-IPE intervention. Fifty-six participants attended the SB-IPE intervention and 37 completed focus group interviews. Overall, attitudes toward IPC changed positively (p <.001), with greater change among HSTs (p =.001) compared to RNs (p =.12). Attitudes to "working relationships" significantly increased for HSTs (p <.001) but not RNs (p =.047). Focus group analysis identified three processes by which SB-IPE led to attitudinal change: 1) Shared vulnerability, 2) Positive affirmation, and 3) Negotiating professional hierarchies, mainly through relationship building. Further research is needed to investigate the long-term impact of attitudinal change, including the extent to which benefits transfer into practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is known to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction. In primary healthcare (PHC), IPC aims to transform care provision and team functioning, but its implementation is challenging and has yielded mixed results. We aimed to describe the enactment of IPC in PHC settings, particularly as it relates to nurse practitioner (NP) integration. A multisite ethnography involving 6 Canadian PHC clinics was carried out. We conducted 330 hours of direct observation, 23 semi-structured interviews with PHC NPs, informal interviews with key PHC partners, and document analysis. IPC in PHC was found to rest on human and non-human actors that interact in complex ways. Organizational mandates and remuneration models, physical spaces and schedules played a decisive role in the enactment of IPC. Power structures embedded in certain designations (i.e., most responsible provider) or NPs' commitments to physicians' practices stood in contrast with the principles of IPC. NPs enacted various role to develop, enhance, and maintain IPC. Despite shifts in PHC provision, IPC remains poorly defined and precariously sustained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: An important aspect of Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) is providing the full cycle of care for a specific medical condition through interprofessional collaboration. This requires employees from diverse professional backgrounds to interact, but there is limited knowledge on how professionals perceive such interprofessional collaboration. We aimed to provide insight into how different professionals perceive Integrated Practice Unit (IPU) composition and what factors influence the quality of interprofessional collaboration within IPUs. Methods: A survey was administered to employees from different professional backgrounds (medical specialists, nurses, allied health professionals, administrative employees) working in IPUs to assess their perception of the composition of their IPU and the quality of the interactions. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the findings of the survey. Results: Medical specialists and nurses were most frequently considered to be part of an IPU and indicated that they have high quality interactions. Allied health professionals were less often considered part of the team by all other professional groups and all report low quality interaction with this group. The extent to which a professional group is perceived as a team member depends on their visibility, involvement in the treatment of the patient, and shared interest. Differences in the quality of interprofessional collaboration are influenced by organizational structures, knowledge of each other's expertise, and by ways of communication. Conclusions: In VBHC, there seems to be a lack of common perception of an IPU's composition and a failure to always achieve high quality interprofessional collaboration. Given the importance of interprofessional collaboration in VBHC, effort should be invested in achieving a shared understanding and improved collaboration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using administrative data from one county's child welfare system, this mixed methods study explored whether caseworker communication with other professionals working with a family was linked to timely reunification. Logistic regressions (n = 250) indicated more frequent communication was associated with increased odds of timely reunification. The qualitative findings (n = 21) explain this relationship, suggesting that interprofessional communication helps professionals address barriers to reunification, make timely decisions, and stay on the same page. Together, the findings from both phases highlight the importance of interprofessional communication in child welfare and provide insight into what professionals should discuss when they communicate. Background: Palliative care requires major nursing interventions as well as medical interventions; thus, both district nurses and doctors are vital to the palliative team. Sparsely populated rural areas are characterised by large geographic distances with the nurses and doctors located far away from each other. If collaboration does not work, this can create challenges for district nurses when managing patients' symptoms. The aim of this study was to describe district nurses' experiences of collaborating with doctors-in-charge during palliative home care in sparsely populated rural areas. Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 district nurses. Inductive content analysis was used to analyse the data. Results: The experiences of the district nurses are described under the overarching theme of Experiences of acting as the patient's advocate, which is divided into two categories: Feeling secure in oneself and the other person and Feeling alone when collaboration breaks down. Conclusion: Consensus and coherence, or lack thereof, between district nurses and doctors affect how collaboration is experienced. Positive experiences are generated when the district nurse and the doctor share a holistic approach, while collaboration is experienced as dysfunctional when the doctor's decisions are not consistent with what the nurse judges to be beneficial to the patient. An understanding of how collaboration across long distances is experienced in rural areas is necessary to enhance collaboration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many resident physicians struggle with effective interprofessional collaboration (IPC), but characterization of their challenges is not well known. This study examines gaps in IPC skills for graduating medical students entering residency. A needs assessment was completed to evaluate factors that impact resident physicians' ability to effectively collaborate with other healthcare professionals. This study included online surveys of 123 recent medical school graduates, 21 semi-structured interviews of residency program directors, and 3 focus groups of healthcare professionals who interacted with residents. Survey results were analyzed for means and narratives from surveys, interviews, and focus groups were analyzed for themes. We found that graduates felt they did not have a strong understanding of other providers' roles and did not feel well prepared to handle conflict with other providers or navigate interprofessional team dynamics. Themes emerging from narrative data generally aligned with the Interprofessional Education Collaborative core competencies including understanding team roles, communicating effectively, and working effectively in a team, but these interviews also elucidated an additional theme, overcoming system barriers. Data from this work can inform curricula in preparation for the transition to residency. The authors also offer an educational framework for learning effective IPC as a new team member. Current evidence offers little guidance as to how interprofessional collaboration can be fostered within the context of integrated care and older people. This research describes the co-design of core competencies for interprofessional collaboration within integrated care teams for older people and the development of practical guidance to support teams in building proficiency. Using a co-design approach, we conducted three studies (co-design workshops, qualitative interviews, and an online validation forum), the combined output of which is a Core Competency Framework, that includes three domains describing six competencies for proficiency in interprofessional collaboration within integrated care of older people. Domain one, Knowledge of the Team, includes the competencies; understanding roles, and making referrals. Domain two, Communication, includes the competencies; sharing information and communicating effectively and Domain three, Shared Decision-making, includes the final two competencies; supporting decision making with older people and collective clinical decision-making. In presenting a formal understanding of the competencies for interprofessional collaboration in the integrated care of older people and practical guidance for developing proficiency, this framework provides direction for future health service workforce development. Introduction: The building of interprofessional collaborative practices throughout the implementation process of a patient support program (Siscare) in primary care for patients with type 2 diabetes was assessed. Siscare included regular patient–pharmacist motivational-based interviews; medication adherence, patient-reported, and clinical outcomes monitoring; and physician–pharmacist interactions. Method: This investigation was a prospective, multicenter, observational, mixed-methods cohort study. Interprofessionality was operationalized through four progressive levels of interrelationship practices between the health care professionals. The target number of patients per pharmacy was 10 among 20 pharmacies. Results: The project started with the recognition of Siscare by stakeholders, the creation of an interprofessional steering committee, and the adoption of Siscare by 41 pharmacies among 47 pharmacies in April 2016. Nineteen pharmacies presented Siscare at 43 meetings attended by 115 physicians. Twenty-seven pharmacies included 212 patients; however, no physician prescribed Siscare. Collaboration primarily occurred through the unidirectional transmission of information from the pharmacist to the physician (level 1: 70% of pharmacists transmitted interview reports to physicians), bidirectional exchange of information sometimes occurred (level 2: 42% received physician responses), and concerted measures of treatment objectives took place occasionally (level 3). Twenty-nine of 33 physicians surveyed were in favor of this collaboration. Discussion: Despite multiple implementation strategies, physician resistance and lack of motivation to participate exists, but Siscare was well received by pharmacists, patients, and physicians. Barriers to collaborative practice (financial and IT) need to be further explored. Interprofessional collaboration is a clear need to improve type 2 diabetes adherence and outcomes. Health care professionals experienced multiple uncertainties during the pandemic. Exploring health care professionals' views about collaboration and organizational support can offer insights into organizational processes and issues during the pandemic. This research explored the perspectives of nurses and physicians about organizational support and nurse–physician collaboration during the SARS‐CoV‐2 pandemic. Using a qualitative descriptive design, interviews were conducted with nurses and physicians working in hospital settings. The interviews lasted for 24–61 min. Reflexive thematic analysis was used for data analysis. Nurses and physicians were disappointed with the organizational support, but they were satisfied with nurse‐physician collaboration. The theme "Management Abusing Authority and Blaming the Victimized Workforce" included organizational nepotism, unethical managerial actions, and neglecting frontline workforce. Nurses and physicians supported each other in tackling the intensive and complex demands of the pandemic. The theme "Demonstrating Professional Humility and Overcoming Patient Care Issues at Hand" entailed subthemes ‐ negotiating conflicts and prioritizing patient care, practicing kindness, and jointly managing conflicts with patients' families. Nurses and physicians reported frustrations with limited organizational support and abusive practices of managers. BACKGROUND: The relationship between nurses and interns affects the quality of patient care; efforts to improve this relationship are necessary for optimal care. Previously, relationship formation was found to depend on mutual trust, respect, effective communication, and undergoing the process of role formation, all of which require time. This led to the hypothesis that instituting a Nurse/Intern Partnership Program (NIPP) would accelerate relationship formation. METHODS: Using a semi-structured interview guide, prior to NIPP implementation, one nurse (n = 5) and 2 second-year resident (total n = 6) focus groups were held. After implementation, one nurse (n = 6) and one intern (n = 9) focus group were held. The focus group data were analyzed using the 5 stages of qualitative research framework. RESULTS: Thematic data analysis with 3 independent coders supported the previously developed model of relationship formation; the NIPP accelerated relationship formation between nurses and interns through creating an early ally, improving communication, and increasing role understanding. The program may have improved the culture of the pediatric unit. The interns reported more of a positive impact of the NIPP on nurse/intern relationship than the nurses. CONCLUSIONS: The NIPP was positively received by pediatric residents and nurses and successfully accelerated relationship formation between the 2 groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Healthcare professionals often feel challenged by complex patients and the associated care needs during care transition. Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is considered an effective approach in such situations. However, a fragmented healthcare system can limit IPC. This study explored experiences of Swiss healthcare professionals regarding complex patient care transition and the potential of IPC. Professionals from nursing, medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, dietetics and nutrition, social service, occupational therapy, and speech therapy were included. A qualitative between-method triangulation design was applied, with two focus group discussions and ten individual interviews. The combination of different data-collection methods allowed us to explore complex patient care transition and to systematically add perspectives of healthcare professionals from different care settings. Three main themes were identified: (1) Participants described their vision of an ideal complex patient care transition, i.e., the status they would like to see implemented; (2) participants reported challenges in complex patient care transition as experienced today; and (3) participants suggested ways to improve complex patient care transition by IPC. This study highlighted that healthcare professionals regarded IPC as an effective intervention to improve complex patient care transition. It emerged that sustainable implementation of IPC across care organizations is currently limited in Switzerland. In the absence of strong and direct promotion of IPC by the healthcare system, professionals in clinical practice can further promote IPC by finding hands-on solutions to overcome organizational boundaries. Interprofessional teamwork provides significant benefits for patients. However, qualitative research on interprofessional collaboration in the breast cancer unit is uncommon. Therefore, a qualitative study was conducted to assess the perceptions of outpatient breast cancer patients regarding interprofessional collaboration in the breast care unit of an Indonesian referral center hospital. The teamwork involved in the interprofessional collaboration included breast cancer specialists, pharmacists, and nurses. In this study, in-depth interviews were performed with nine breast cancer outpatients. All interviews were audio recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings were divided into two categories to gather breast cancer patients' viewpoints on interprofessional collaboration: (1) obstacle components to interprofessional collaboration: incompleteness of health personnel, no justification from health personnel, no knowledge of patients about health professionals, no involvement of patients in the therapy decision making; (2) enabling elements: patient-oriented, patient expectations, collaboration among healthcare personnel, patient participation in interprofessional collaboration, health personnel responsibilities, comprehensive hospital services. Respondents assumed interprofessional collaboration positively. However, several obstacles must be overcome to implement interprofessional collaboration in a breast care setting effectively. Aims: The aim of the study was to explore intensive care nurses' collaboration with doctors' when considering ending the life‐prolonging treatment of patients in the intensive care unit. Design: A qualitative method with an explorative descriptive design was employed. Methods: Data were collected through semi‐structured interviews with four intensive care nurses and four doctors working in three intensive care units at two university hospitals and one local hospital. The data were analysed using systematic text condensation. This study was reported according to the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research checklist. Results: Two categories were identified in the data analysis: listening to each other during the decision‐making process and continuity and having time to facilitate regular discussions of prognosis and treatment plans. Background: The current study aimed to explore the team members' experiences in the socialization process for becoming a collaborator in an interprofessional team. Method: This qualitative study is conducted using an inductive qualitative content analysis approach. Participants consisted of 32 physicians (n = 16) and nurses (n = 16) who participated by purposeful sampling. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyzed by Graneheim and Lundman approach. Results: In the study, "the perceived confrontation between interprofessional professionalism and uni-professionalism in the interprofessional socialization process" is explored as the theme, including two categories: "interprofessional professionalism commitment" as a facilitator and "uni-professional centrism" as a barrier. Conclusion: A reciprocal dimension in interprofessional socialization was explored. Interprofessional professionalism adherence and team-centered accountability among team members were explored as a facilitator. The uni-professional culture and immature interprofessional collaboration competencies of team members disrupted the interprofessional socialization process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To continue growing the advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) role nationally, and similar roles internationally, there must be widely held trust in the level of practice and the roles worked in service by ACPs. This requires infrastructure to support ACPs through their training and ensure they are fit to qualify. This short report focuses on an evaluation of assessment processes in the acute sector in a county in England, to understand their feasibility and suitability. The qualitative research design was attendance at assessment panels and 17 semi-structured interviews with assessors and ACP trainees, from nursing, physiotherapy, paramedicine and operating department practice backgrounds based at two hospitals. Key themes identified through thematic analysis were the different approaches to assessment and the support required to engage effectively with assessment. One hospital had a well understood process, including ACPs with a clear identity. The other hospital had a credible assessment process that continues to be developed. The insights from this study enabled lessons to be drawn for those responsible for workforce development who are key to the future development of the ACP role and to ensure high standards of interprofessional care. Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is key to ensuring safe quality care for patients. However, IPC intervention outcomes are variable, leading to calls for systems theories to understand complex interactions in healthcare. Using networked ecological systems theory (NEST), we aimed to uncover facilitators and barriers impacting the interactions between nurses and physicians in a specialty healthcare center. A qualitative study involving 55 non-participant observations and 17 individual semi-structured interviews was conducted at the National Neuroscience Institute of Singapore from April 2019 to March 2021. Template analysis was used to analyze the data. The most important IPC facilitators were exosystemic institutional support and physicians' willingness to engage in IPC in the microsystems that together enabled the establishment of disease-based outpatient programs fostering patient-centered interactions among different healthcare professionals (HCP). We also found that patient-, disease-, and systems-related knowledge played an important role in facilitating IPC. Macrosystemic entrenchments such as intraprofessional composition of ward rounds emerged as a significant barrier. However, microsystemic efforts such as chat groups connecting all HCP involved in the care of the patients in the wards have fostered IPC. Background: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have challenges in home oral care, accessing a dentist and accepting dental treatment. Occupational therapists (OTs) and speech therapists (STs) are likely to be involved earlier in managing communication, behavioural and sensory processing issues. Aim: To determine perceived issues, barriers and potential solutions to dental care for children with ASD in Singapore from the perspective of OTs and STs. Design: Semi‐structured interviews and a focus group discussion involving OTs and STs who treat children with ASD were conducted. Audio recordings were transcribed and coded into themes using the NVivo 12 software. Results: Emergent themes indicated that: (i) OTs and STs have important roles in recognition of issues with toothbrushing, oral pathology and harmful oral habits; (ii) OTs and STs were able to identify reasons for difficulties in oral home care for children with ASD and offer helpful strategies; and (iii) OTs and STs can play a role in pre‐dental visit preparations but lack a clear dental referral pathway. Conclusions: OTs and STs exclusively assist in the early identification and referrals of children with ASD to the dentist. Interprofessional collaboration with dentists should be further explored to aid in the provision of preventive dental advice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
