There are multiple challenges currently facing the school. Its ability to motivate and involve students with the adoption of technology, in an active and participatory way in teaching and learning, deserves special mention. The Internet of Things (IoT) presents itself as a tool well received by students, motivating them for learning, and teachers recognize advantages in using this resource in the classroom. It is intended to show that it is also a device with the potential to respond to what is defined in normative documents where the guiding principles for the learning evaluation are established in order to promote the improvement of learning. A content analysis was carried out of the identified decree-laws and the focus group interviews, with the teachers who participated in the exploration of essential learning in the third cycle of basic education.

A Internet das Coisas (IdC) sustenta-se num conjunto de tecnologias que permite, a partir de dispositivos tecnológicos, como sensores, ligar objetos à internet e destes recolher dados do mundo analógico, em tempo real, possibilitando ações imediatas ou o seu armazenamento para posterior análise e controlo. Esses cenários dinâmicos podem contribuir para o enriquecimento da aprendizagem, evoluindo o ensino para um modelo baseado no desenvolvimento de competências, que exige dos alunos um desempenho mais ativo. Assim, pretende-se investigar as dimensões inovadoras da prática da IdC na educação, através da análise da aplicação do projeto SOLL – Smart Objects Linked to Learning, com alunos do 3.º ciclo, numa abordagem interdisciplinar das ciências. Neste sentido, utilizando uma metodologia mista, questionários aos alunos e inquérito por entrevista, em focus group, aos professores, os dados obtidos mostram que, em geral, esta plataforma tem uma dimensão inovadora para a educação, pois promove melhorias nos resultados educacionais, introduz produtos e serviços novos e/ou melhorados, como novas pedagogias ou novas combinações de pedagogias, incluindo serviços de e-learning e/ou novas formas de organizar as atividades., The Internet of Things (IoT) is based on a set of technologies that allows, from technological devices, such as sensors, to connect objects to the internet and from these to collect data from the analog world, in real time, enabling immediate actions or their storage for subsequent analysis and control. These dynamic scenarios can contribute to the enrichment of learning, evolving teaching to a model based on the development of skills, which requires students to perform more actively. Thus, it is intended to investigate the innovative dimensions of the practice of IoT in education, through the analysis of the application of the project SOLL – Smart Objects Linked to Learning, with students of the 3rd cycle, in an interdisciplinary approach to science. In this sense, using a mixed methodology, questionnaires to students and survey by interview, in focus group, to teachers, the data obtained show that, in general, this platform has an innovative dimension for education, as it promotes improvements in educational results, introduces new and/or improved products and services, such as new pedagogies or new combinations of pedagogies, including e-learning services and/or new ways of organizing activities.
