Abstract

In our globalised world the sources and actors of international law are many and its growth prolific and disorderly. International law governs the actions of states on matters as long-established as diplomatic immunity or as recent as the War on Terror, and it now impacts upon the lives of ordinary citizens in areas as diverse as banking and investment, public health and the protection of the environment. Abstract

The article discusses the international law of recognition, anthropomorphism, and various socio-cultural presumptions about recognition as of May 2013. Author Jean d’Aspremont's critique of the article is addressed, along with legal constructions and author Emmanuelle Tourme-Jouannet's concept of international law. Constructivism and an empirical study of normative law are also examined, along with an analysis of the relationship between economics and law.
