The drinking water and sanitation services condition the productivity and competitiveness of the economic agents as well as people's quality of life. Lack of these services, or their inefficient supplying, affects the application of effective policies for the development and the improvement of economic growth rates. That is the importance of the adoption and strengthening of public policies for both human consumption and for the progress of the different productive sectors. In order to apply these policies, the managers and CEOs need tools to make decisions based on scientific criteria such as econometric models, just as the one proposed in this exploratory research; in which the main goal was to formulate an econometric model that estimates the production of drinking water for domestic use, within the framework of integrated water resources management, particularly in the Palavecino municipality of the state of Lara. The study was designed as a special project in which it is shown that these mechanisms allow to guide the administration towards the goals previously set. Among the main findings it is highlighted that the management of water resources requires not only investment in infrastructure, it is also necessary the development of the capacity to motivate involved social actors and make them to be aware of the common responsibility to solve the problem of lacking of water and preventing it from getting worse.
