The thesis maps the ways of participation of Russian-speaking mothers on the Czech civil society. By means of in-depth interviews I learn what factors are required for the integration of the migrants and what make the integration difficult. I focus on fulfillment of the need of belonging to Czech civil society in the context of all other needs. The sense of belonging is specific for women because of their gender-dependent family role - a woman takes care of children and comes more often to contact with Czech society through them. She also assumes the role of a protector of the original culture and mother tongue. I study the influence of the ethnic identity of mothers on the integration of their children into the new environment and the role of the mothers in the upbringing of a new citizen. I also study whether the migrants need services of Czech and migrant non-profit organizations for their participation on Czech civil society, or whether they use help of their countrymen. This thesis is focused on the topic of nonprofit organizations that are oriented on integration of the Chinese minorities in the Czech Republic. The thesis is focused on description of activities that are used by NGO's for integration of the Chinese minorities in the Czech Republic. In theoretical part is definition of key words. Especially it is definition of non-profit sector, NGO's, integration and theory of integration and the Chinese minorities. A qualitative method of data obtaining is used in the empirical part of the thesis. It is possible to describe integration activities of NGO's that are focused on the Chinese minorities in the Czech Republic from interviews with the respondents.

The aim of the thesis is to present the topic of migration and integration of foreigners in the Czech Republic and to define a role of non-profit organizations in this process. The main goal of the thesis is to analyze a degree of the involvement of the non-profit organizations and their contribution to the integration process of foreigners in the Czech Republic. The first part of the thesis presents the topic of migration and integration and applies theoretical perspectives onto the current situation in the Czech migration and integration policy. It tries to introduce the development of the policy after 1989 to its reader and to describe its current issues. The second part focuses onto the non-profit sector, defines possible forms of partnership with government institutions and describes the current situation and the main actors. The third part of the thesis consists of the analysis of the semi-structured interviews with the chosen representatives of the non-profit organizations and the government institutions with the aim to define a role of Czech non-profit organizations in the integration process including any obstacles which might impede the deeper involvement of the non-profit organizations.

This thesis aims to analyze the relationship between the Muslim community and the civil society. The community is narrowed down to practicing Muslims and three organizations in which Muslims unite. Churches and religious societies have a special status within the civil society due to their missionary work and the content of their religious activities. Do the religious organizations of the Muslim community stand on the verge of the civil society or do they strive for cooperation with the major public within the frame of common activities? Czech society fears this minority due to a negative media picture of Muslims. Are those fears well-founded and can the religious community change this way of perceiving them? This negative perception can relate to an insufficient integration process which I also target in my thesis. Muslims founded their first religious organizations on Czech territory during the First Republic, but it lost its legal validity after 1989. This thesis also deals with the legislative aspects of functioning of the selected organizations, mainly the Islamic foundation based in Prague and Brno.

In the period between the years 2006 and 2008, a significant increase in the migration of Mongolians to the Czech Republic could be seen. The Mongolians came to the Czech Republic mainly through formal and informal intermediary agencies and most of them worked as unskilled labor. With a few exceptions, they originally arrived to the CR with work and residence permits, yet a large part of them lost their permits during their first two years of stay. Even those who managed to live and work in the CR legally faced frequent violations of their rights. The research on Mongolian migration presented in this doctoral thesis was carried out as a case study. By looking at this specific problem area, fundamental problems posed for Mongolian migrants by the set-up of the Czech migration and integration policies could be analyzed. This work does not address these policies only and the ways they are set up, but also the manner of implementation and the specific impact of these policies on the life of the monitored migrants. It shows that major problems in the way migration policy is set up and regulated are encountered already by the visa applicants still in Mongolia. SYNOPSIS The principal objective of this thesis, entitled The Role of the Kurdish Civic Association in the Integration of the Kurds into Czech Society, focuses on defining the basic terms (integration, civic society, migrants' association), and briefly describes the legislative impact of migration on Czech civil society. The role of the established civic sector in the integration process is outlined, and types and functions of migrants' associations are defined. In addition, insight into the migration of the Kurds and their ways of associating within a host society is provided. Research data is based on analyzed questionnaire results: surveys completed by a research pool of 27 Kurds living in the Czech Republic, aged 15 and over. Participant observation at Kurdish meetings and events - both formal and informal, and individual interviews were the methods of choice for evaluating the importance and function of the Kurdish civic association. In conclusion, evaluated data has been summarized and recommendations given for further activities of the Kurdish civic association. Topic of immigration and integration of foreigners to the majority has become more relevant in last few years in Czech and Slovak public. This essay deals with migration and integration on the level of government policies, introduces basic documents and conceptions, which were accepted in those states and the role of ministries and regions. Consequently, situation in both states is compared. In the second part of the essay, non-governmental organization and their role in the field of migration and integration are introduced and chosen aspects of three pairs of NGOs are compared with the effort to put them into the broader context.
