The article discusses the disparity in car insurance premiums charged to minorities and whites in Missouri, California, Illinois and Texas based on the investigation by the journal and ProPublica nonprofit journalism group. Insurance firms allegedly charged minorities 30% higher for the same accident costs. It cites the impact of this disparity on minorities as car insurance is mandated in all states. In Illinois alone, 33 of the 34 insurance firms were charging minorities at least 10% more.
