To optimize the pulping and refining processes of new alternative raw materials for papermaking, researchers generally perform tests that consume considerable time and large amounts of sample. We propose measuring the morphological properties of pulps from orange tree trimmings by image analysis systems, which are fast and user-friendly, to develop models relating key mechanical properties to the dimensions, the deformation and the population of fibers. Data modeling involves multiple linear regression, as used in other studies, and support vector regression, not used before for this purpose, achieving higher R 2 values (up to 0.90). Although tensile, tear and burst tests are still required to obtain accurate values, a quick morphological characterization allows for a rough but satisfactory prediction of paper strength. In this case, chemical pulping and moderate refining are shown to be necessary to obtain pulps of acceptable quality from orange tree trimmings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose – This article aims to describe how people manage to integrate their use of paper and electronic documents in modern office work environments. Design/methodology/approach – An observational interview type study of 14 participants from 11 offices in eight organizations was conducted. Recorded data were analysed using a thematic analysis method. This involved reading and annotation of interview transcripts, categorizing, linking and connecting, corroborating, and producing an account of the study. Findings – The findings of the study can be categorized into four groups: the roles paper and electronic documents serve in today's offices, the ways in which these documents are managed, the problems associated with their management, and the types of fragmentation that exist in terms of their management and how these are dealt with. Practical implications – The study has identified the need for better integrated management of paper and electronic documents in present-day offices. The findings of the study have then been used to propose a set of guidelines for the development of integrated paper and electronic document management systems. Originality/value – Although similar studies of offices have been conducted in the past, almost all of these studies are prior to the widespread use of mobile and network-based shared technologies in office environments. Structural computing represents a form of hypertext, in which structure is foregrounded in the analysis, design and implementation of systems. Until now, the vast majority of structural computing work has focused on the implementation of frameworks. The applications implemented in these environments are often reimplementations of existing hypertext applications, intended to show the utility of the provided environments in terms of implementation, interoperability, or other metrics. Often, spatial hypertext applications are reimplemented, since they are seen as particularly good tests of structural computing infrastructures. This is because the demonds they pose are quite different from many other types of hypertext applications. However, structural computing researchers have failed to reanalyse and redesign these applications in a structurally-aware way. There are substantial improvements that result from rethinking such applications from a structure-first perspective.
