Background: Mesiodens usually lead to the malposition and abnormal morphology of maxillary central incisors. Aim: To evaluate the detrimental effects of single unilaterally impacted mesiodens on the three‐dimensional positions and morphology of the maxillary central incisor using cone‐beam computed tomographic (CBCT) examinations. Design: A total of 321 patients aged 5–17 years with single unilaterally impacted mesiodens were included and divided into two groups: mixed dentition group (5–10 years) and early permanent dentition group (11–17 years). CBCT data for these patients were retrospectively analyzed to compare the inclination, rotation, angulation, and morphology of maxillary central incisors between the affected and contralateral control sides. The morphology, orientation, and spatial location of mesiodens were also assessed. Results: Central incisors on the affected side showed significant palatal crown inclination, shorter root, shorter tooth, and greater crown‐to‐root ratio in both groups, whereas significant mesial crown angulation was only observed in the mixed dentition group. Conclusion: Impacted mesiodentes result in the displacement and impaired root development of central incisors, strongly suggesting timely clinical management of these abnormal teeth, such as the early removal of mesiodens and orthodontic treatments. Background: Pattern of dental anomalies encountered in cleft patients shows subtle signs of genetic involvement. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and pattern of tooth agenesis and supernumerary teeth in Thai cleft population according to the cleft type. Methods: Data collected from patients with cleft lip and palate, who had been treated at Tawanchai Cleft Center, Khon Kaen University, Thailand, available during year 2012–2022, were investigated. Records from 194 patients with non-syndromic clefts met the inclusion criteria. Standard dental records, and at least either orthopantomogram (OPG) or cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), were examined. Statistical analysis was performed using chi-square and binominal test (p ≤ 0.05). Results: Prevalence of tooth agenesis was higher (77.3%) than that of supernumerary teeth (5.7%) and was more common in bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP) (88.1%) than in unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) (72.6%) (p = 0.017). The upper lateral incisor was more frequently affected (46.4%), followed by the upper second premolar. The number of missing teeth observed on the left side was significantly higher. Patients with left UCLP (ULCLP) had the highest prevalence of tooth agenesis. A total of 41 tooth agenesis code (TAC) patterns was found. The prevalence of supernumerary teeth was comparable with 6.6% of ULCLP, 5.1% of BCLP, and 4.5% of URCLP. Tooth-number anomalies were observed more often in the BCLP and were most likely to occur on the left side of the maxilla. Both types of anomalies could be featured in a small proportion of cleft patients. Conclusions: More than half of the patients with non-syndromic cleft lip and palate in this study, presented with tooth-number anomalies. Tooth agenesis was approximately 10-time more prevalent than supernumerary teeth. Tooth agenesis was likely to appear on the left-side of the maxilla regardless of the laterality of the cleft. Objective: To investigate the incidence of accessory canals and the variation in root canal morphology of permanent mandibular incisors and canines in Pakistani population using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in University College of Dentistry, The University of Lahore, Pakistan after getting institutional ethical permission from January 2020 to September 2022. The data included records of 111 patients consisting of 444 permanent mandibular incisors and 222 permanent mandibular canines. Accessory root, root canals and Vertucci canal configuration for each tooth was recorded. Data analysis was done using SPSS v20. Descriptive statistics were calculated for each anatomical parameter. Chi-square test was applied to determine association of gender with the presence of accessory roots and root canals. Results: Among the 111 records evaluated, 48.6% were males and 51.4% were females. No accessory root was found in the central and lateral incisors. However, an accessory root was found in 4.9% of the canines. The incidence of accessory canals in the central incisors, lateral incisors and canines was 18.9%, 25.2% and 10.4% respectively. The most common canal configuration in teeth with accessory canals was Type-III, followed by Type-II and Type-V. Conclusion: None of the central or lateral incisor showed accessory root while it was detected in 4.9% canines. The frequency of accessory root canal was found to be 18.9%, 25.2% and 10.4% in central incisors, lateral incisors and canines respectively. ABSTRACT: Supernumerary teeth represent a significant dental anomaly that has a notable impact on the primary and early mixed dentition, potentially leading to pathological disturbances in the development of permanent dentition. Mesiodens specifically refers to an additional tooth (erupted/unerupted) present in the midline between the two central incisors. This article describes two cases involving the surgical extraction of inverted and impacted mesiodens by using a minimally invasive surgical approach in children. Early extraction of supernumeraries can offer the advantage of minimizing loss of eruptive potential, space loss, and midline displacement. Anterior open bite (AOB), characterized by the lack of vertical overlap between upper and lower anterior teeth, poses a considerable challenge in orthodontics. The condition depends on many factors that combine to render it difficult to achieve post treatment stability. AOB is commonly classified as dental, skeletal, or functional on the basis of the clinical presentation and causative factors. Traditionally, skeletal AOB necessitates surgical intervention, whereas nonsurgical approaches such as extrusion arches and the Multiloop Edgewise Archwire Technique (MEAW) can be employed in more straightforward cases. Functional appliances are reserved for situations in which a patient's growth potential offers the possibility of effectively addressing AOB. This review presents a strategic treatment approach for addressing AOB, taking into account the classification and severity of the condition. The proposed SHE framework describes the use of mini-screws (S) for anchorage and vertical control, encouragement to correct habits (H), and the utilization of extractions and elastics (E). By incorporating extra-radicular mini-screws, AOB closure is achieved through anterior retraction in extraction cases or whole arch distalization of dentition with elastics in non-extraction cases. This framework emphasizes habit correction through a regimen of oral myofunctional therapy (OMT) and habit-correcting appliances to enhance posttreatment stability. This review suggests that nonsurgical correction is viable in the majority of cases, whereas surgical intervention should be reserved for severe cases of skeletal vertical overgrowth or horizontal discrepancies. Background: Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is an autosomal dominant hereditary disorder. Besides skeletal abnormalities, CCD is often associated with dental complications, such as multiple supernumerary teeth and permanent teeth impaction or delayed eruption. Methods: Supernumerary teeth of axial, sagittal and coronal CBCT view was characterized in detail and 3D image reconstruction was performed. Number and location of teeth, morphology of supernumerary teeth, positional relationship between supernumerary and adjacent permanent teeth, direction of supernumerary teeth in CCD patients were analyzed. Results: The mean age of the 3 CCD patients in this study was 16.7 years. Among 36 supernumerary teeth, the majority of them were identified as apical side located and lingual side located. Normal orientation was the most common type in this study, followed by sagittal orientation, and horizontal orientation. Horizontal orientation teeth were all distributed in the mandible. Supernumerary teeth exhibited significantly shorter crown and dental-root lengths, as well as smaller crown mesiodistal and buccolingual diameters (P < 0.01). There was no difference in the number of supernumerary teeth between the maxilla and mandible, and the premolars region had the largest number of supernumerary teeth and the incisor region had the smallest number. Conclusions: This study compares number and location of teeth, morphology of supernumerary teeth, positional relationship between supernumerary and adjacent permanent teeth and direction of supernumerary teeth, this study also provides a reference for the comprehensive evaluation of CCD patients before surgery. Objective: To describe a rare clinical case with the presence of two supernumerary impacted teeth localized in the region of maxillary central incisors. Case report: After clinical examination and evaluation of imaging exams (panoramic radiograph and CT scan), the decision to perform a conservative treatment was taken, maintaining the supernumerary teeth in the mouth and extracting the impacted central incisors. Once the treatment plan was defined, the supernumerary teeth were reshaped, to transform them into central incisors. After this, the central incisors were extracted. Results: the results achieved were satisfactory from both esthetic and functional points of view. Conclusion: This clinical case has led to the conclusion that the maintenance and reshaping of supernumerary teeth proved to be a feasible alternative when it is impossible to move the original tooth into place. Supernumerary teeth have been proposed to be one of the most significant dental defects affecting the primary and early mixed dentition. These teeth can cause poor facial and dental aesthetics, as well as many pathological problems for the development of permanent dentition. Mesiodens are the extra teeth that have erupted or not yet erupted in the maxilla between the central incisors. Early identification and treatment are necessary to mitigate the negative effects of the mesiodens dentoalveolar structures. This case series discusses three different cases for the presence of supernumerary teeth leading to discomfort and aesthetic concerns. Background: Maxillary central incisors (MCI) are the third most impacted teeth. Timely multidisciplinary management is indicated as unerupted incisors can cause functional‐ and appearance‐related distress. Aim: To assess the patient journey for children with unerupted MCI, including referral, clinical assessment, surgical management and follow‐up treatment, and highlight areas for improvement, as well as identify factors impacting orthodontic treatment burden (OTB). Design: A retrospective service evaluation of children aged 6–16 years who had surgical management of unerupted MCI under general anaesthetic (GA) between 2018 and 2021. Results: Fifty‐two children with 62 unerupted MCI were identified. Mean age at referral was 8.8 years. Most children (82.7%) had supernumerary teeth in the anterior maxilla. Mean time between listing for GA and surgery increased from 4.3 to 15.2 months following the COVID‐19 lockdown. Mean age at surgery was 10.4 years. Supernumerary removal and incisor exposure and bond was the most common treatment (56.6%). Most patients required hospital orthodontic treatment post‐surgery (65.4%). Conclusion: Most children referred were below 9 years (60.1%); these children had reduced OTB compared to those who had been referred at an older age. Supernumerary teeth (ST) are a prevalent multifactorial dental anomaly. Although most ST cases are idiopathic, multiple ST can be linked to genetic disorders and may appear in many syndromes. A healthy 8-year-old female had retained deciduous maxillary incisors, which was the parents' main concern. On clinical and radiographic examination, the patient had multiple unerupted ST. The patient underwent comprehensive dental treatment by multidisciplinary dental specialties. Introduction: Orthodontic discrepancies are a common finding in patients with supernumerary teeth (ST). The presence of a ST can cause a number of orthodontic discrepancies, including delayed eruption or retention of adjacent teeth, crowding, spacing, and abnormal root formation. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of extraction of an anterior supernumerary tooth on the underlying orthodontic discrepancies without additional treatment for a 6-month period. Methods: This was a prospective, longitudinal, observational, study. It included 40 participants with orthodontic malocclusions due to maxillary anterior supernumeraries. We examined the changes in the crowding and excessive space in the anterior and posterior segments on cast models. Results: In the group that presented with crowding, a statistically significant decrease of 0.95 ± 0.17 mm (P < 0.001) was found between T0 and T1. Of the participants, three exhibited full self-correction. The excessive space at T0 (3.06 mm) decreased by 1.78 ± 0.19 mm to T1 (1.28 mm) in the anterior segment. Seven participants showed full self-correction of the diastemas after the 6-month observation period. Conclusion: The results imply that orthodontic treatment can be postponed for at least 6 months after the extraction of the supernumerary tooth as potential self-correction can be expected. This natural alleviation of the malocclusions may make the orthodontic treatment simpler, shorten the treatment time and decrease overall appliance wear time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aetiology of impacted canines is multi-factorial. Several theories have been proposed, such as lack of space, genetic predisposition, physical barriers like supernumerary teeth, odontomas and other conditions that interfere with the eruption pathway. One of the main complications that can be generated by impacted canines is the resorption of the root of the adjacent teeth. This case report examines the importance of interdisciplinary management of maxillary incisors with root resorption caused by impacted canines in a 13-year-old male patient. Careful traction of impacted canines and proper tissue management followed by space closure and retroclination of anterior incisors with orthodontic treatment. Background: Double teeth are dental anomalies that can lead to aesthetic and orthodontic problems. Case presentation: This report discusses two cases involving the multidisciplinary management of permanent maxillary left lateral incisors fused with a supernumerary tooth in two girls aged 9 and 10. Following intraoral and radiographic examinations, one was diagnosed with fusion, and the other was diagnosed with concrescence. The crown of the fused incisor was separated using a burs and extracted intraorally. The concrescent incisor was separated along its length using a laser and intentionally replanted extraorally. After a 6-year follow-up, no pathological signs were observed in the fused incisor. However, after an 11-year follow-up, external resorption was observed in the concrescent incisor. Conclusions: Both incisors remained asymptomatic throughout the observation period. Introduction: Supernumerary teeth are additional teeth or toothlike structures that have erupted or remained unerupted in addition to the 20 deciduous teeth and 32 permanent teeth. The size, form, and number of teeth can all vary. It is the most frequent type of supernumerary tooth, and it is generally found between the top two central incisors, which may be impacted or erupted. CBCT pictures were collected to properly diagnose the form and location of the mesiodens. Their presence can cause a range of clinical issues. Case Report: The current report discusses a rare example of palatally positioned, inverted, and impacted mesiodens discovered during a malocclusion radiographic evaluation. Tooth fusion is a dental anomaly with a prevalence of 0.1% in permanent dentition. The aim of this paper is to present the occurrence, region of fusion, and prognosis of fused tooth which is a very rare case in the literature. The authors present a very rare case with a maxillary right lateral incisor fused to a supernumerary tooth on the palatal side. The eruption was delayed, but eruption occurred naturally at 9 years and 6 months. However, cone-beam computed tomography at 11 years and 6 months revealed it was diagnosed as a fused tooth. The authors undertook a literature review over the past 10 years and found 30 articles about fused teeth between permanent teeth and supernumerary teeth. It was more common in males than females and there were no differences depending on the occurrence. Mesiodistal fusion was more common in the incisor region, while labiopalatal fusion was more common in the molar region. Most cases required dental treatment with a surgical approach, root canal treatment, or orthodontic treatment. Key Clinical Message: Management of supernumerary teeth fused to the labial surface of permanent maxillary central incisors would require a multidisciplinary approach comprising of endodontic treatment, periodontal recontouring, and cosmetic composite restoration. Herein, management of a supernumerary tooth fused to the labial surface of a maxillary central incisor is reported. Dental anomalies are clinically evident abnormalities that cause a variety of dental problems. Depending on the tooth location, dens evaginatus indicates a posterior tooth abnormality, while talon cusp explains an anterior tooth anomaly. Identifying the problem and initiating treatment requires careful observation and proper investigations. Here, the authors present the case of a nine-yearold female child who had an H-shaped talon cusp or barrel-shaped bilateral maxillary lateral incisors in the form of premolars. The report includes clinical and radiographic interpretation. Associated problems and various treatment options are also explained. Although dental anomalies affecting the teeth are relatively common, the presentation of barrel-shaped or premolar-shaped bilateral maxillary lateral incisors is uncommon. Knowledge about the prevalence and distribution of such anomalies would aid various dental experts in early identification and recognition of dental malformations, as well as in complete treatment planning. Maxillary central incisors are critical to occlusal function, smile esthetics, and even one's self-image. Furthermore, their impaction at an early age could have harmful psychological consequences on the individual. Maxillary central incisors can be impacted due to early dentoalveolar trauma to the upper anterior region that displaces the incisor in formation and, in rare instances, tooth germs are deformed. The aftermath of trauma during primary dentition is seen later during mixed dentition. Other causes are either an impediment in the eruption pathway of the maxillary central incisor due to the presence of odontomas or supernumerary teeth, an insufficient eruption space, or, very rarely, syndromic and/or other general medical conditions. Diagnosis is completed through a detailed medical/dental history, clinical evaluation, and appropriate imaging. Arch width increase, space opening, removal of obstructions if present, suitable soft-tissue management, well-designed orthodontic traction mechanics, and long-term periodontal follow-up are all essential elements in resolving cases of impacted maxillary central incisors. Unerupted maxillary central incisors significantly affect the function, esthetics, and confidence of young patients. Impacted tooth can occur because of number of reasons such as bony barrier, presence of odontoma, supernumerary tooth, retained deciduous tooth, or arch length discrepancy. During the mixed dentition stage, impacted central incisors are very common which bothers the child and the parents. Successful management of impacted central incisor can prove to be a big challenge for clinicians. Whenever there is a delay in eruption sequence, it is imperative for the dentist to find the etiology and formulate a treatment plan. Multidisciplinary management and proper planning are essential in the management of impacted central incisor. The present case report describes the management of a 9-year-old patient having impacted left permanent maxillary central incisor. The tooth structure was exposed using a diode laser was used as it was a conservative approach which provides a bloodless site for clinicians to operate and less postoperative trauma to the patients followed by orthodontic traction to align the tooth into proper position. • Impaction of maxillary incisors due to obstruction prevents normal root development and causes malformation of the apex, due to proximity to anatomical borders. • The prevalence and severity of dilacerations is higher in the advanced dental age and closed apex groups. • Interventional procedures aimed at encouraging eruption should be initiated early before development of the apical third of the root. A developing maxillary central erupts at the age of 7 years and the apical third of its root apexifies 3 years later, at age 10 years. During this period, an impacted incisor root develops its root in a restricted area, above the alveolar bone, high up in the cortex of the floor of the nose. The aim of this study was to radiographically assess whether the root development of the unerupted incisor is affected by its lack of eruption. A cross-sectional retrospective split mouth study was designed. The sample consisted of 30 consecutive patients (20 males, 9 females) aged 8–30 years (mean 11.6 years), who attended the Orthodontic Department between 2016 and 2019 for treatment of a unilateral impacted maxillary central incisor due to obstruction. Root length, volume and morphology (presence and angle of dilaceration) were evaluated on CBCT scans by 2 calibrated observers using OnDemand3DTM application software to compare the impacted and normally erupted incisors. The effects of dental age at diagnosis, type and location of obstruction and 3D position of the impacted tooth were evaluated. The impacted central incisors had significantly shorter roots (mean 3.1 mm, p < 0.001) and significantly more dilacerations (40%), while their root volume was only slightly reduced. Advanced dental age closed apex and buccally located obstruction were each found to be associated with more root dilacerations. Closed apex was also associated with an increased angle of dilaceration. Odontomas affected root volume more than supernumerary teeth. A more angulated horizontal position of the impacted tooth in sagittal and transverse dimensions resulted in less dilacerations. Non-eruption of a maxillary central incisor due to obstruction prevents normal root development and causes malformation of the apex, due to its proximity to anatomical borders. Background: Nance–Horan syndrome (NHS; MIM 302,350) is an extremely rare X-linked dominant disease characterized by ocular and dental anomalies, intellectual disability, and facial dysmorphic features. Case presentation: We report on five affected males and three carrier females from three unrelated NHS families. In Family 1, index (P1) showing bilateral cataracts, iris heterochromia, microcornea, mild intellectual disability, and dental findings including Hutchinson incisors, supernumerary teeth, bud-shaped molars received clinical diagnosis of NHS and targeted NHS gene sequencing revealed a novel pathogenic variant, c.2416 C > T; p.(Gln806*). In Family 2, index (P2) presenting with global developmental delay, microphthalmia, cataracts, and ventricular septal defect underwent SNP array testing and a novel deletion encompassing 22 genes including the NHS gene was detected. In Family 3, two half-brothers (P3 and P4) and maternal uncle (P5) had congenital cataracts and mild to moderate intellectual deficiency. P3 also had autistic and psychobehavioral features. Dental findings included notched incisors, bud-shaped permanent molars, and supernumerary molars. Duo-WES analysis on half-brothers showed a hemizygous novel deletion, c.1867delC; p.(Gln623ArgfsTer26). Conclusions: Dental professionals can be the first-line specialists involved in the diagnosis of NHS due to its distinct dental findings. Purpose: To evaluate the survival rate of primary maxillary anterior teeth following intrusive luxation and identify associated factors. Methods: A retrospective longitudinal study was conducted at a primary dental trauma centre using 88 dental records of children with intrusive luxation between 2007 and 2018. The variables of interest were time the tooth remained in the alveolus, degree of intrusion, accentuated overjet, lip protection, visible plaque, compromised germ of the permanent successor, clinical signs of infectious and inflammatory processes, endodontic treatment, pulp canal obliteration, sex, age at the time of trauma, family income, mother's schooling, and immediate care. Descriptive, bivariate, and Cox regression analyses were performed (p < 0.05; 95% CI). Results: The 88 dental records of children with intrusive luxation included 128 teeth. Survival rate throughout the follow-up period was 65.6% (n = 84). Age older than three years and eight months (HR 2.28; 95% CI 1.04–4.99; p = 0.039), the development of an infectious process (HR 3.51; 95% CI 1.39–8.86; p = 0.008), development of an inflammatory process (HR 2.35; 95% CI 1.17–4.71; p = 0.016) and compromised germ of the permanent successor (HR 4.38; 95% CI 1.99–9.61; p < 0.001) were associated with a lower survival rate of intruded primary maxillary anterior teeth. Conclusion: The survival rate during the follow-up period of intruded primary maxillary anterior teeth was considered high. A significantly lower survival rate was associated with age, the occurrence of an infectious process and inflammatory process, and the compromised germ of the permanent successor. A natal tooth is a rare condition of the presence of a tooth in the oral cavity at birth. A mother of a crying and dehydrated 3-day-old newborn boy came with a complaint of a severely mobile tooth preventing breastfeeding. The surrounding soft tissues were anesthetized by spray anesthesia, and the tooth was removed by one of the upper extraction forceps. The boy was seen after 8 years; clinical and radiographic examination revealed a missing deciduous maxillary first molar and drifting/spacing of the maxillary anterior teeth on the right side. In conclusion, the natal tooth is most probably a deciduous one. Long follow-up is recommended to assess and prevent any unwanted consequences of missing teeth during primary dentition. Introduction: Dens invaginatus (DI) and Dens evaginatus (DE), the developmental anomalies affecting the morphology of the tooth structure are extremely rare to occur. DI occurs because of invagination of a crown into dental papillae. DE is a tubercular emergence from occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth and lingual surfaces of anterior teeth. The two anomalies on separate teeth are frequently mentioned, but their co-occurrence in a single tooth is a rare entity. Patient Concerns: A 20-year-old male patient presented with the rare combination of DE and DI on a dilacerated maxillary right lateral incisor diagnosed using cone beam CT. Treatment: The patient was managed conservatively and is undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment for malocclusion. Despite its uniqueness, very few localized cases have been documented. Take-away Lessons: These anomalies act as an etiological factor for several dental problems for neighboring & opposing tooth. Mesiodens are a type of supernumerary tooth that appears more frequently in the definitive dentition, they are pieces generally located in the midline of the upper jaw, of unknown etiology, but the most accepted theory is due to a hyperactivity of the dental lamina during morphogenesis. The purpose of this work is to describe the case of a 14-year-old male patient with no relevant pathological history. The intraoral clinical analysis shows a dental organ in the midline of the upper jaw compatible with a mesiodens and another included located at the level of the nasal cavity. On tomographic analysis there is presence of a hyperdense area between upper incisors with a characteristic compatible with a mesiodens, in a sagittal section a hyperdense area is observed 7mm from the alveolar rim towards the floor of the nostrils, an inverted dental structure with a diameter of 8mm, ectopic location. The development of tooth is a complex process where series of interactions occurs between the ectoderm and ectomesenchyme. Alterations in development lead to a variety of anomalies in regard to number, size, form, shape, structure, etc. Talon cusp is a developmental anomaly mostly seen on the lingual surface of anterior teeth. Gemination is an anomaly caused by a single tooth germ that attempted to divide during its development. These developmental anomalies may cause clinical problems including esthetic impairment, pain, caries, and tooth crowding. The rare occurrence of talon's cusp on a geminated tooth in permanent dentition has been published in the literature. The concurrent talon's cusp on a geminated tooth is an extremely rare finding or may be a coincidental finding in the case of permanent dentition with incidental finding of impacted supernumerary teeth in both upper and lower jaw on both sides. Supernumerary teeth are an uncommon occurrence that have the ability to arise anywhere in the dental arch. Mesiodens is a specific type of supernumerary tooth that occurs in the vicinity of the maxillary central incisors. Mesiodens are the most common among all supernumerary teeth, almost always impacted, and may also be seen in various positions based on the eruption status. The formation of mesiodens is a much-debated topic and many theories have been proposed. The reports also include its common radiographic findings and a pertinent literature review. This study reports a case of an impacted, inverted mesiodens incidentally discovered on a preimplant examination of maxilla. This article demonstrates the scope of eruption of an impacted and inverted mesiodens. Various methods of treatment plan are discussed and a new classification system of mesiodens is proposed. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors that give rise to supernumeraries in the maxillary incisor region and larger dimensions of the adjacent maxillary incisors are also associated with variations in the morphology of the mandibular incisors. If so, this would contribute to understanding the distribution and interactions of factors during dental development and how these can be modelled. The sample consisted of 34 patients with supernumerary teeth in the maxillary anterior region, matched for gender, age and White Caucasian ethnicity with 34 control subjects. The average ages of the supernumerary and control groups were 12.8 and 12.2 years, respectively. Study models of all subjects were constructed and imaged using a previously validated system. Using custom software, each of the mandibular incisor teeth were measured to obtain 17 parameters from the labial view and 17 from the occlusal view. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to summarize the measurements into a smaller set representing distinct features of the clinical crowns, followed by a comparison between the supernumerary and control groups using 2-way ANOVA. Seven factors of tooth size of the mandibular central incisors and six factors of the mandibular lateral incisors were identified as major features of the clinical crowns. All parameters of both mandibular incisors were greater in the supernumerary group than in the control, with three of these, located in the incisal and cervical regions of the mandibular lateral incisors, being statistically significantly larger. The findings of this study indicate that the aetiological factors associated with supernumerary teeth in the maxillary anterior region also affect tooth crown dimensions of mandibular incisors. This new evidence enhances several models of the interactions of genetic, epigenetic and environmental components of dental development and supports a multi-model approach to increase understanding of this process and its variations. Supernumerary teeth that are present in the molar region may be evident based on crowding and impaction, but most cases are asymptomatic and discovered as incidental findings during routine radiological examinations. This article reports the case of a 29-year-old woman who presented with a severe feeling of pressure in the region of the maxillary third molars that had been increasing in intensity for weeks. A clinical examination revealed crowding of the maxillary anterior teeth despite the completion of orthodontic treatment and an erupted third molar with localized gingivitis in the second quadrant. A radiographic examination revealed bilateral supernumerary maxillary fourth and fifth molars, so cone-beam computed tomography was performed to locate the supernumerary teeth precisely for a preoperative diagnosis and comprehensive treatment planning. This report presents the radiological and surgical case management of a rare case of bilateral supernumerary molars and reviews the literature regarding epidemiology and treatment options. A literature review reveals limited data for supernumerary teeth in Taiwan. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of nonsyndromic supernumerary teeth in patients in the National Taiwan University Children's Hospital. This retrospective study analyzed the nonsyndromic supernumerary teeth in 1280 patients (710 boys and 570 girls) based on examination of mainly panoramic radiographs and related radiographs. Chi-square test was used for trend analysis. The incidence of nonsyndromic supernumerary teeth was 11.25% (179 supernumerary teeth in 144 of the 1280 patients). There was a male predominance (4.33: 1, P < 0.0001) for our 144 patients. Most supernumerary teeth were single (63.69%), conical-shaped (78.77%), and unerupted (77.09%). Supernumerary teeth also tended to be located in the premaxilla (93.85%), fully developed (51.40%), invertedly oriented (45.25%), sagittally located in a palatal/lingual position (67.60%), and adjacent to the root and root apex of permanent teeth (70.39%). The supernumerary teeth with a normal orientation (64.52%) had a high potential to erupt into the oral cavity, but the majority of the supernumerary teeth with a transverse orientation (97.22%) or an inverted orientation (100%) were unerupted. The nonsyndromic supernumerary teeth occur most commonly in male patients with a male to female ratio of 4.33: 1. The incidence of nonsyndromic supernumerary teeth in our 1280 patients is 11.25%, and the most frequent location of supernumerary teeth is the anterior maxillary region. Introduction: Hypo hyperdontia is a numeric mixed anomaly in which teeth may be supernumerary or absent, relative to the normal complement. The occurrence of this condition in the same individual is termed "Concomitant Hypo-Hyperdontia" (CHH). The presence of CHH in the same dental arch is uncommon, especially when it occurs in the front of the mandible in a Nonsyndromic Concomitant Hypo-Hyperdontia (NCHH). Aim: To conduct a literature review of the published articles in the English language, regarding NCHH in the anterior region of the mandible covering the period from October 1977 to December 2021. Materials and Methods: An extensive electronic search was conducted in February 2022, from Google Scholar, PubMed, and Elton B. Stephens Company (EBSCO) databases, using keywords such as mandible, hypodontia, hyperdontia and nonsyndromic. Manual sorting of the preselected literature, revealed only 19 published papers concerning NCHH in the frontal region of the mandible, spanning a period of 44 years. Results: The review analysed the data from 19 published studies, which presented 24 affected patients with a mean age of 12.36 years, with a male/female ratio of 1:1, involving a total of 41 missing teeth, including bilateral mandibular central incisors at 66.66%, followed by missing unilateral central incisor at 29.16% and 1 case (4.16%) displaying absence of both lateral incisors. Regarding 25 presented supernumerary teeth (ST), 72% of cases presented single midline ST, 20% were single unilateral ST, and one case presented double ST (8%) located bilaterally. The majority of ST (84%) were erupted conical-shaped. Conclusion: The study confirmed the exceptionally rare occurrence of NCHH in the anterior region of the mandible. The mesiodens is an extra tooth that is situated in the middle of the two central incisors. It is the most prevalent supernumerary teeth. Whereas genetic factors and dental lamina proliferation have been linked to mesiodens, its exact etiology is still unknown. Often, it causes cyst development, misaligned teeth, food entrapment, poor aesthetics, and other oral health problems. Therefore, to avoid these pathologic and orthodontic issues, early diagnosis and treatment are advised. Objectives: Here, we retrospectively investigated cases of bilateral oral clefts (OCs) to determine the clinical relevance of detailed distinction of incomplete cleft lip subphenotypes, based on morphological severity of the cleft, within the categories cleft lip with or without alveolus (CL ± A) and cleft lip, alveolus, and palate (CLAP). We further assessed possible associations between CL subphenotypes (complete vs different incomplete types) and different dentition patterns of the lateral incisor. Materials and methods: Our analysis included 151 non-syndromic Caucasian bilateral OC-patients (8–20 years old) from the Dutch Association for Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies registry. Six different deciduous and permanent lateral incisor patterns were distinguished: normal position (z/Z), supernumerary lateral incisor (n/N), presence in the anterior (x/X) or posterior (y/Y) segment of the cleft, one in each cleft segment (xy/XY), and agenesis (ab/AB). Logistic regression was performed to show the associations between the CL subphenotypes and dentition patterns of the lateral incisor. Results: One hundred three had complete, while 48 had incomplete CLs. Patterns z/Z and n/N were associated with a submucous/vermillion notch, incomplete CL, and intact alveolus. Patterns x/X, y/Y, and xy/XY were most common in patients with two-thirds to subtotal CL and complete CL. The most severe pattern, ab/AB, was most commonly associated with complete CL. Conclusions: Based on the morphological severity of the CLs, it can be stated that the more severe the CL in bilateral CL ± A and CLAP, the more severe the abnormal pattern of the dentition. Clinical relevance: Further distinction of incomplete cleft lip subphenotypes (submucous/vermillion notch, one-third to two-thirds CL, two-thirds to subtotal CL) in bilateral CL ± A and CLAP has clinical relevance. An abnormal union of two or more tooth germs in the development process results in fusion of teeth. Such clinical situations present a diagnostic dilemma and a challenge in treatment planning. This article reports the endodontic and esthetic management of an atypical permanent maxillary lateral incisor fused with a supernumerary tooth and a coronal dens invaginatus. A 22-year-old female reported an abnormally large and discolored permanent maxillary left lateral incisor (#22). Cone-beam computed tomographic evaluation revealed a complex, labiolingually thin ribbon-shaped canal system in the central portion interconnected with two other canals along with a coronal dens invaginatus. A 2-year follow-up demonstrated satisfactory clinical and radiographic outcomes after the endodontic therapy and a veneer placement on the concerned tooth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Dental anomalies are craniofacial abnormalities in the size, structure or number of the teeth. This study was conducted to assess the prevalence of dental anomalies among children aged 0-16 years attending the Paediatric Dental Clinic at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used and data were obtained from the dental records of the Dental Clinic from January 2014 to August 2019 by two calibrated examiners, who are co-authors of the manuscript. To test for statistical differences, Chi-squared test was utilised for the categorical variables. The prevalence of the different dental anomalies was estimated and presented with frequencies. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Among the 6175 patients' dental records reviewed, 50.85% (n = 3150) were male and the highest proportion of 45.4% (n = 2807) were aged between 6 and 10 years, with a mean age of 8.62 ± 3.85 years. A total of 1090 (17.52%) had dental anomalies; 465 (7.53) anomalies were in the maxilla, 263 (4.6) were in the mandible while 360 (5.83) were in both. The most common anomaly was hypoplasia 550 (9.06%), followed by retained primary tooth 546 (8.84%) and hypodontia 84 (1.36%). Dentinogenesis imperfecta 1 (0.02) and transposition 1 (0.02) were the least prevalent anomalies. Retained primary teeth (5.8%) and the cusp of Carabelli (0.4%) were slightly more prevalent among males. However, females had a higher prevalence of natal/neonatal teeth (0.4%), fusion/germination (0.4%), hypodontia (1.5%) and peg-shaped lateral incisors (0.9%). Conclusion: Dental anomalies' prevalence in this study was 17.52%, with a higher occurrence of anomalies in the maxilla. Hypoplasia was the most prevalent anomaly, after which was retained primary tooth, then hypodontia. Mesiodens is one of the developmental problems in children and adolescents. Mesiodens is a supernumerary tooth in the midline between two central incisors which eventually causes poor aesthetics, food impaction, malocclusion and cyst formation. This is a rare case of a 13-year-old male with unusual impacted inverted permanent maxillary left central incisor and horizontally placed mesiodens lying palatal to the permanent maxillary left central incisor. The patient presented with unerupted permanent upper left central incisor. Although most unerupted teeth require surgical removal, surgical-orthodontic treatment may be needed when maxillary incisors are involved due to the aesthetic impact. Surgical-orthodontic treatment aims at the complete alignment of natural teeth and does not require prosthetic intervention. This case report also reviews current literature on the treatment and multidisciplinary management of this problem. The inclusion of both maxillary permanent central incisors is uncommon. This condition compromises face aesthetics, phonation and masticatory function. Therefore, early diagnosis is essential to avoid complications and failures. There are various reasons for inclusion, but supernumerary teeth are the leading cause. Early causes of removal and rapid expansion of the palate determine a high probability of success with the spontaneous eruption of the impacted elements. However, it is often necessary to proceed with a surgical–orthodontic treatment. The inclination of teeth in relation to the midline and the root maturation degree determine prognosis and therapeutic timing. In this case report, the orthopantomogram (OPG) X-ray of a 9-year-old boy revealed two impacted supernumerary teeth in the anterior maxillary region, preventing the eruption of the permanent upper central incisors. The impacted supernumerary teeth were surgically removed at different times. A straight wire multibrackets technique associated with a fixed palatal appliance was used. The palatal appliance featured an osteomucous resin support at the level of the retroincisal papilla. Aim and background: The talon cusp on labial aspect is an uncommon, properly delineated odontogenic anomaly that is mostly located on the permanent maxillary incisors. Its presence leads to problems in esthetics, the prevention of caries, an occlusal hindrance for the affected individual, and troubles in the assessment and clinical management of the dentist. Case description: An 8-year-old boy complains of the pain, swelling, and his bad looking maxillary central incisor of right side. Talons cusp is not indicated for any treatment, but as it was creating a problem for the child and hindering complete eruption, treatment was planned for the patient. The mucoperiosteal flap was reflected and raised, and with a low-speed dental hand drill and a carbide bur used to cut the talons cusp-like attached structure attached to the tooth, the mucoperiosteal flap was reflected and the talons cusp completely removed. Conclusion: It's possible or unlikely that talon cusps are related to the symptoms described in this case study. Early diagnosis and treatment can lessen symptoms in symptomatic cases, stop tooth loss before it happens, enhance aesthetics, and generally improve the patient's health.
