Abstract

The article discusses the life of Gertrude Helmecke, physical education teacher at College of Industrial Arts (now Texas Woman's University), and she had a strong record of academic accomplishment. It mentions U.S. president Woodrow Wilson denounced the divided loyalties of America's immigrants and undiluted loyalty decorates with its citizenship. It also mentions cultural assimilation, such as their separation into cultural enclaves and preference of the German language over English.
