Introduction: The objective of this study was to explore the perception of loneliness of patients over 65 years of age with chronic pathologies that allude to this feeling. Method: The sample consisted of 36 patients (M=81.75; 50% men; 50% women) from a basic area (ABS) in Barcelona. The feeling of loneliness was evaluated with the UCLA scale and the question was asked: Could you describe why you feel lonely? Results: The results revealed a feeling of slight loneliness in (17%); moderate in (30%) and severe in (53%). The analysis of the responses showed that feelings of loneliness are associated with loss, estrangement or filial rupture, and the feeling of abandonment, which they described as disturbing, negative, and painful. Conclusions: Everyone feels alone, even if they are not, it is necessary to identify this feeling of loneliness, since it influences the state of physical and mental health that deteriorates the quality of life of patients. RESEARCH methodology , *ECOLOGICAL research , *ABUSE of older people , *VICTIMS , *EPIDEMIOLOGICAL research - Abstract
Introduction: Violence against older adults is a public health problem, being camouflaged in society due to the relationship between aggressors and victims. Objective: to analyze the profile of violence against older person in Brazil according to data from Brazilian capitals between 2011 and 2019, emphasizing the characteristics of the victims, the aggressors and the violence. Materials and Methods: This is a temporal ecological epidemiological research, collecting information from the DATASUS database of the Ministry of Health, and consulting the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN). The population was made up of older adults with reported cases of violence between 2011 and 2019. Results: The majority of cases were female, with schooling corresponding to incomplete 1st-4th grade, white, with physical violence being the most recurrent, with repetition, within the residence, and the main aggressors were the children. Discussion: The predominance of females is justified by gender/ sociocultural, the majority of victims are white, consistent with Brazilian selfdeclaration, level of education and greater distribution of uneducated older adults. Physical violence is the most prevalent, as it is more visible, favoring its identification. Older adults spend more time at home, triggering risk factors related to the aggressors, with children being more prevalent due to family structural changes. Conclusion: The study made it possible to profile violence against the old person, exposing the characteristics of this population and identifying possible risk/protective factors; the study also made it possible to identify the importance of correctly filling out the report form and the need to readjust the physical form and the information system. FAMILY support , *FAMILY relations , *SOCIAL perception , *SOCIAL support , *HEALTH of older people - Abstract
Perceived social support is a relevant moderator of the health of older people and is an indicator of how families are organized to meet the needs of elderly members. Understanding the family factors that affect the perception of support is relevant for recognizing resources and vulnerabilities in old age. This study aimed to verify family factors associated with the perception of social support among the older ones. 134 elderly from the interior of the state of Bahia participated in interviews at home, in which the following were evaluated: 1) family configuration (housing arrangement, financial contribution, and family headship); satisfaction with family relationships - family APGAR; 3) family climate - Family Climate Inventory and; 4) Perceived social support - Interpersonal Support Evaluation in the short version. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression was performed, with stepwise variable selection criteria (p<0.05). The older ones with the highest risk of a lower perception of social support were those with a lower perception of a positive family climate (3.6 times greater risk), those with dissatisfaction in the family adaptation domain (risk 6.3. times greater), the oldest - 75 years+ (2.8 times greater risk), and those who were family heads (2.8 times greater risk). Family factors associated with a lower perception of social support among the older are low family support and cohesion, dissatisfaction with family adaptation to the demands of old age, being long-lived, and the responsibility of being the head of the family. - Abstract
This was a quantitative, retrospective, correlational, cross-sectional study that aimed to provide normative CDT (Clock-Drawing Test) data for older adults, taking into account different age groups and educational levels. The sample included 235 older adults distributed among five age groups and four levels of education. The instruments were Sociodemographic Data Sheet, the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Geriatric Depression Scale reduced version (GDS-15), the Semantic Verbal Fluency Task (TFVS), and the CDT. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and univariate analysis (one-way ANOVA) with Scheffe post hoc were used. The CDT scores showed significant associations with age, years of schooling, MMSE, TFVS, and GDS-15. There was a difference in performance in CDT when considering age groups. The present study was able to provide normative values for CDT in a sample of older adults in southern Brazil that were influenced by age, education, depressive symptoms, and verbal fluency. LITERATURE reviews , *PRISON system , *DIGITAL libraries , *COMMUNICABLE diseases , *INFECTIOUS disease transmission , *GOVERNMENT policy , *CARRIER state (Communicable diseases) - Abstract
To describe through an integrative review of the literature the phenomenon of infectious diseases among individuals deprived of liberty in the Brazilian prison system. This is an integrative review of the literature that observes the concerns of the investigated area by adding the nursing practices, in which it was consulted through the databases of the VHL (Virtual Health Library) LILACS, MEDLINE, SciELO and BDENF. We selected 14 publications that gave rise to three categories: Main infectious diseases affected in the Population Deprived of Liberty, Relationship of the environment with co-infections and The role of nursing in the face of the reality of prison. It is understood that scientific production points to a precarious Brazilian prison system, which ends up facilitating the transmission of infectious diseases among PPL, and for this reality to be changed, it is urgent to take action against the control of these diseases, based on current public policies, so that there is a positive result. Introduction: Aging is a dynamic process in which biochemical and physiological changes are related to a higher frequency of pathological processes, which ultimately lead the human being to death. Part of these alterations and pathologies are improved using medicines, so older adults are great consumers of medicines. Several instruments have been used to evaluate the use of inappropriate medications in older adults, with Beers Criteria frequently used. The concept of medication adherence has undergone changes over time and represents the degree to which the patient's behaviour corresponds and agrees with the recommendations of a doctor or other health professional. Medication non-adherence to entails a decrease in the quality of life of the patients and high costs for the health systems. Objectives: To characterize drug therapy in older adult users of a northern Portuguese community pharmacy, as well as to identify the presence of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) in the older adult and to assess medication adherence. Methods: Exploratory and descriptive study. The target population was older adult users of a community pharmacy in the municipality of Valpaços, Portugal. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire applied in the form of a structured interview. The potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) identification was based on the most recent version of the Beers Criteria published in 2019. The MAT (Measurement of Adherence to Treatments) scale was used to evaluate medication adherence. The statistical treatment included the calculation of absolute and relative frequencies, measures of central tendency and dispersion. Results: 60 older adult people were interviewed, 53.3% of them women. The average age was 78.35 years. Among these, 55.0% were married/had a non-marital partner, 71.7% lived accompanied, 26.7% had primary school education, 40.0% received less than 300 Euros monthly and 95.0% lived in the municipality of Valpaços. Each older adult person consumes on average 6 different types of medication per day. Major polymerization was present in 66.7% of older adults, and 94.2% of the drugs being prescribed by the physician. In 34.7% of the cases, the medication had been used for at least 1 year and only 3.4% reported feeling adverse reactions. Of the total 326 drugs identified, the most prescribed pharmacotherapeutic groups were drugs acting in the cardiovascular system 27.2% and in the digestive system 24.2%. Additionally, 15 drugs classified as potentially inappropriate medication were identified in the older adult. Most of the older adults (76.7%) did not adhere to drug therapy, these being mainly females with primary education, living with a partner and less than 300 euros/month. Conclusion: Polymedication and the use of potentially inappropriate medications are common in older adults. Medication adherence is low. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article aims to investigate the digital skills necessary for the creation of digital materials by the elderly and their potential for improving the quality of life. In the current context, in addition to technological changes, there is the interest of some seniors in learning to create digital materials. The methodology used in this research was qualitative, in the field, with an interpretative approach. The target audience was elderly people with an average age of 72.4 years who participate in a digital inclusion course at a University and specialists with an average age of 36.8 years old. Two types of instruments were used for data collection: Online questionnaires and participant observation. Therefore, it was possible to map a general competence called Digital authorship and three specific ones: Creation of digital content; Sharing digital content and, finally, Security and digital privacy. Thus, this research identifiedas a prerequisite for the construction of digital content, the need for the elderly to be digitally fluent or, at least, to master basic technological knowledge about the authoring tool used. COVID-19 pandemic , *LONELINESS , *MENTAL health - Abstract
Social isolation due to the global pandemic influenced not only the way how people interact, but it also brought a huge impact on the population’s mental health, regardless of their age. This study aimed to evaluate the intensity of symptoms of depression and anxiety, perceived stress, levels of loneliness, and psychological well-being in the elderly during social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study included 86 elderlies, aged 60 to 90 years old (M=70.95; SD=7.08), living in the southern region of the country. They were interviewed by a WhatsApp video call and responded about symptoms of stress, anxiety, loneliness, depression, and positive mental health. The results showed that 55.8% had high stress symptoms, 18.6% anxiety symptoms, 16.3% depression symptoms, and 5.82% moderate to severe loneliness. It was found that participants who felt more alone had lower well-being scores. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This article is part of a master's dissertation that investigated the reading comprehension and the inferential process of elderly students from a youth and adult class. Only data from one of the participants will be considered, which were constructed through semi-structured interviews and reading sessions. The interviews aimed to identify the participant's life and reading stories. The reading sessions consisted of answering inferential questions about two texts - a cordel and a poem -, which were divided into parts previously established by the researcher. The results showed that the participant's reading comprehension and inferential processes were based mainly on the textual material, there was a relation between the participant's life and reading histories and his comprehension of the texts, and, moreover, it was demonstrated that there was greater difficulty for the participant in reading the poetic genre than in reading the genre cordel. Stereotypes related to aging and the consequences of preconceived ideas against the rights of the elderly people's personality are investigated. The biological aspects of aging and the State's concern with regard to the elderly, increasingly with larger populations during the last decades, are analyzed. Causes that cause stereotypes on aging, such as crises of moral values and the decline of ethics which bring about marginalization and, consequently, the violation of human rights of the elderly, are investigated. The hypothetical and deductive methodology was employed based on bibliographical and documental research in works on doctrine, especially databases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The confinement derived from the Alarm State in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic left the elderly alone in a situation of greater vulnerability. Objective: To describe the solidarity initiatives towards the elderly in the written press in the context of confinement in Spain by Coronavirus. Material and methods: Qualitative study through thematic content analysis. The Google search engine was used to locate articles in journalistic dissemination media in digital format of the Spanish scope (local, regional or national), published between March 14 and May 8, 2020. We made an Excel file with: title, source, scope, date, fortnight, section, author, verbatim, agents involved, means of contact, necessity implied according to Virginia Henderson's categorization and web address. Results: Of the 100 articles analyzed, most were published in the first fortnight of confinement at the local level. They covered needs such as "detect and avoid dangers", "food", "communication", "mobilization" and "learning". The agents involved were civil society, also NGOs and public institutions through Civil Protection or the Red Cross. The means of communication used were posters, telephone, telecare and mail. Conclusions: The coronavirus pandemic has unleashed a network of solidarity towards the elderly and the press has echoed this. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AGE groups , *INCOME , *HUMAN skin color , *POPULATION aging , *OLDER people , *AGING - Abstract
The present study empirically analyzes the effect of population aging on both job opportunity level and income in Brazil. The results confirm schooling, male gender, non-white skin, head of family and not receiving other income as factors that increase the chances of elderly people being offered work. Salary decomposition reveals that over the two years analyzed, 2005 and 2015, no salary discrimination has been associated with ageing. However, the elderly would have their income increased provided that they shared the same productive characteristics with non-elderly workers, which reinforces the need for educational policies and professional training for that age group. A favorable evolution of attributes for the elderly worker is observed during the same period, especially regarding schooling and the effect of aging on Brazilian workers' wages. However, education level improvement and a solution to gender- and skin color related discrepancies among the Brazilian elderly are still challenges to be confronted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Population aging requires specific care. This study aimed to describe and compare indicators of affective experiences of institutionalized and non-institutionalized older adults, based on the Pfister Colored Pyramids Test (CPT), in relation to normative data available for the age group. A total of 50 older adult volunteers from the state of São Paulo, mean age 73.6 years (±8.3), of both sexes, with elementary education and of average-lower economic levels, were individually assessed (G1=25 institutionalized; G2=25 non-institutionalized). They answered a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the CPT. The choices and chromatic syndromes of CPT of G1 and G2 were compared (Student's t-test, p=.05, Cohen's d), with no statistically significant differences being identified. However, when compared to the normative data, G1 presented statistically significant differences in the variables: blue, violet, yellow, brown, gray, Stimulus and Colorless Syndromes. It was possible to highlight particularities in the affective experiences of the older adults associated with institutionalization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This study aimed to compare the Social Representations (SR) of aging and quality of life (QoL) in old age for riparian elderly. This is a qualitative-exploratory study with a non-probabilistic sample. Sociodemographic questionnaires and the free word association technique were used. Participants were 100 elderly, matched for sex, aged 60-89 years (M = 70.08 years; SD = 7.19). The IRaMuTeQ software was used through the prototypical analysis, which provided the representational structure. Negative central elements were observed in the SR of aging and more positive elements in the SR of QoL in old age, which denotes the welfare paradox; that is, positive self-reports of life satisfaction, even in the presence of aging losses.
