Abstract

Variable renewable energy sources, e.g. solar and wind power, require flexible management of energy sources to stabilize the power grid. Immediate changes in power generation and power usage is compensated for by the operation of hydropower plants. This subsequently leads to frequent flow fluctuations – hydropeaking downstream of the hydropower plant. This study examines the short-term impacts of hydropeaking of hydropower plants on the sediment transport using numerical morphodynamic model. The model is calibrated to field measurements and subjected to various hydropeaking scenarios on daily to sub-daily scale. Based on this study, the effect of hydropeaking of hydropower plant 23.42 km upstream of the studied river section would have negligible effect on the bedload transport in the studied cross section. Abstract

One of the important elements in the hydropower plant's pre-operating process is the computation and operation at modelling using the optimizing model. The optimizing model of the Váh Cascade (The hydro-model) represents a programmatic model into the complex IT environment supporting the pre-operating process of the hydropower plants in Slovakia's Power Supply System. The optimizing model's main task is cost - effective use of the hydropower plant's hydro potential in covering the Daily Load Chart requirements with respect to the pre-operation of other energetic sources (thermo-hydro coordination) while facilitating all the marginal water. Abstract

The simplest part of Vah hydroelectric system from the point of view of mathematical modelling is the water work Drahovce - Madunice. Modelling methods verified on other channel hydro power plants are easily applicable on this hydroelectric system. Last year was made by our department terrain measurements and research on this water work.
