The molecule of the title compound, C9H7NO, is nearly planar, with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.018 (7) Å. In the crystal structure, two molecules form an R²2(8) centrosymmetric dimer through N H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The three-dimensional packing is additionally stabilized through weak C—H⋯O interactions.
