Its seedlings production, might attempt to the utilized substrate characteristics, its organic matter content, adequate nutrients concentration, good aeration, and pathogens agents' absence. Nowadays is increasing the use of renewable fertilizers in detriment to mineral ones, such as the bokashi and the organics compost in agriculture, although few studies are made to test how it affects different plants' metabolism. Due to this circumstance, more studies must test its effectiveness. The bokashi possesses several favourable characteristics as nutrients rapid release, soil structure maintenance, some pests, and disease prevention and control. This study used the bran rice bokashi and the organic compost aiming to verify its effect on passionfruit seedlings germination and initial growth in the tube at the greenhouse. The study area was in the fruticulture sector, on the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Sul de Minas Gerais (IFSULDEMINAS), Muzambinho Campus, Brazil. The treatments were different bran rice bokashi doses with organic compost: T1 (0%/100%, respectively bokashi/organic compost), T2 (2%/98%), T3 (4%/96%), T4 (8%/92%), T5 (16%/84%) and T6 (32%/68%). The adopted outline was the RBD, six treatments, and four repetitions, and eight tubes per portion. The obtained data submitted to statistical analysis, the treatments that stood out regarding the germination, were mainly the witness T1, T3, and T5. About the plants' growth treatments T4, T5, and T6; the T5 was the best treatment due to the high seeds germination and plant development rate on this experiment conditions. Mimosa scabrella is a pioneer species that occurs mainly in the ombrophilous mixed forests of southern Brazil, assuming considerable economic relevance. As limited information is available concerning the most adequate substrates for producing seedlings of this species, we evaluated the combined effect of hydrogel with three types of substrates and four fertilizers in the initial growth and quality of seedlings of M. scabrella. The substrates were prepared with distinct proportions of a commercial organic substrate, vermiculite (VM) and pine bark (PB): 1 (70% of TF, 10% of VM and 20% of PB), 2 (40% of each TF and VM and 20% of PB), and 3 (70% of TF, 10% of VM and 20% of PB). The fertilizers consisted of a slow release formula (A), a traditional NPK (B), a compost of superphosphate and potassium chloride (C) and no fertilizer (D). The three soil mixtures were combined with each fertilizer in the presence or absence of hydrogel (factorial arrangement). The use of hydrogel promoted a positive effect on the growth of M. scabrella seedlings, probably by retaining more water and enabling increased nutrient absorption. In general, the polymer implicated in increased Dickson quality index (DQI). Additionally, the combination of organic compound and vermiculite in equilibrated proportions aid by pinus bark (substrate 2) were the best substrate. Finally, adding the fertilizers A or B resulted in the best growth performance. In conclusion, the combined effect of hydrogel, substrate mixture and fertilizers improved the quality indexes of M. scabrella seedlings. RESUMO Mimosa scabrella é uma espécie pioneira que ocorre principalmente na floresta ombrófila mista do Sul do Brasil, apresentando considerável importância econômica. Considerando as limitadas informações acerca dos substratos mais adequados para a produção de mudas da espécie, neste trabalho avaliou-se o efeito combinado do uso de hidrogel com três tipos de substratos e quatro fertilizantes no crescimento inicial e qualidade de mudas de M. scabrella. Os substratos foram preparados com proporções distintas de um substrato orgânico comercial, vermiculita (VM) e casca de pinus (PB): 1 (70% de TF, 10% de VM e 20% de PB), 2 (40% de TF e VM e 20% of PB), e 3 (70% de TF, 10% de VM e 20% de PB). Os fertilizantes consistiram de uma fórmula de liberação lenta (A), o tradicional NPK (B), um composto de superfosfato simples e de cloreto de potássio (C) e com fertilizante ausente (D). Os três compostos de substratos foram combinados com cada fertilizante na presença ou ausência de hidrogel (arranjo fatorial). O uso de hidrogel promoveu um efeito positivo no crescimento das mudas de M. scabrella, provavelmente retendo mais água e permitindo maior absorção de nutrientes. No geral, o polímero implicou em aumento no índice de qualidade de Dickson (DQI). Adicionalmente, a combinação do composto orgânico e vermiculita em proporções equilibradas adicionado de casca de pinus (substrato 2) constituíram o melhor substrato. A adição dos fertilizantes A e B resultaram na melhor performance de crescimento. Concluiu-se que a combinação de hidrogel com substrato composto e fertilizantes melhoraram os índices de qualidade de mudas de M. scabrella.

The study aimed to evaluate rooting of raspberry cultivars from leafy cuttings in two seasons, autumn and winter. The cultivars Schöenmann, Willamette, Heritage, Polana, Indian Summer, Fall Gold, Golden Bliss and Bababerry were evaluated. Assessments were done 90 days after the installation for both seasons, evaluating the following traits: percentage of cuttings with callus; rooted and live cuttings; the longest root length; and dry mass of roots and sprouting. The results showed that is possible to obtain good rooting rates from leafy cuttings of raspberry cultivars in autumn, and regular in winter. The cultivars Bababerry, Schoenmann and Golden Bliss had higher rooting percentage, followed by Heritage, Polana, Willamette and Fallgold. The cultivar Indian Summer had the lower rooting percentage in autumn and winter.

Este trabalho objetivou avaliar diferentes substratos na emergência e crescimento de mudas de Enterolobium contortisiliquum. Foram avaliadas composições a partir dos materiais vermiculita, moinha de carvão vegetal, subsolo, composto orgânico e serragem de madeira, totalizando 16 tratamentos. Durante 120 dias, avaliaram-se a emergência, o índice de velocidade e o tempo médio de emergência, a altura total da planta, o comprimento da raiz, o comprimento da parte aérea, o diâmetro do colo, o número de nódulos, a massa seca da raiz, a massa seca da parte aérea e o volume de raiz, além do índice de qualidade de Dickson. A maioria dos substratos apresentou resultados satisfatórios, destacando-se os tratamentos com 50% de vermiculita e 50% de composto orgânico e o tratamento com 33% de vermiculita, 33% de moinha de carvão vegetal e 33% de composto orgânico. The present study aimed to evaluate the influence of different materials in the emergency and growth of Enterolobium contortisiliquum seedlings. Distinct substrates were formulated using vermiculite, charcoal wastes, subsoil, organic compost and wood sawdust, consisting of 16 treatments. The variables emergency, speed index and average time of emergency, total height of the plant, length of the root, length of the stem, root collar diameter, number of nodules, root and stem dry mass, root volume, and the Dickson Quality Index, were analyzed during 120 days. Almost all the substrates provided satisfactory results, especially the treatments with 50% of vermiculite, 50% of organic compost and the treatment with 33% vermiculite, 33% charcoal wastes and 33% organic compost.

O uso da irrigação por capilaridade na produção de mudas em viveiros pode trazer vantagens ao uso de água e sua utilização adequada requer o conhecimento da capacidade de ascensão de água no meio de crescimento das raízes, atributo pouco estudado. Para avaliar esta condição fundamental, este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar a ascensão de água em substratos comerciais de coco e pinus, em dois padrões de tamanho de partículas e em duas condições de umidade, para indicar aquele que possua as melhores características físicas para aplicação na irrigação por capilaridade. Utilizou-se o método de ascensão capilar, com colunas desmontáveis de anéis preenchidas com substratos, avaliando-se os seguintes tempos de contato do fundo da coluna com a lâmina de água: 0,25, 0,5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 e 24 horas, com 10 repetições por tempo testado. Pelos resultados, observou-se que a maior ascensão capilar acumulada em 24 horas de ensaio foi obtida para os substratos de textura fina de coco e de pinus. Além disso, a hidrofobia do substrato de coco seco recomenda que as irrigações nesse material devem ter frequências maiores que substratos de pinus, evitando seu secamento. O substrato de pinus, por não apresentar esse comportamento, deve ter turnos de rega mais espaçados, principalmente sob textura fina. Devido à sua maior retenção de água e capacidade de elevação de água quando umedecido, o substrato fino de coco é mais adequado à irrigação por capilaridade em recipientes como tubetes. The capillary irrigation in nursery production could give advantages in water use and its correct application demands knowledge about capillary water rise through root growth media, an attribute poorly studied. This research had as objective to evaluate water capillary rise in commercial pine and coconut substrates for two particle size distributions and two moisture conditions, to indicate the substrate with the best physical characteristics for capillary irrigation. The capillary rise determination method was applied on disassembled rings column filled with substrates, evaluating the following contact durations of the column bottom with water surface: 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 24 hours, with 10 repetitions per time. The results showed that the fine pine and coconut substrates had the higher water rise during the 24 hours test. Moreover, the hydrophobic state presented by coconut substrate indicated high irrigation frequencies for this material in comparison to pine substrate, avoiding that drying conditions become irreversible. The pine bark substrate did not show this problem, needing longer irrigation intervals, especially with the fine texture one. Due to the greater water holding and water rise capacity for wet conditions, the fine coconut substrate showed more suitable for capillary irrigation in small recipients.

Pecan is one of the most important horticultural nut crops in the world. It is a deciduous species native to the temperate zones of North America, introduced into the subtropical regions of Brazil during the 1870s. High quality seedlings are essential to establishing healthy and productive orchards, and selection of seeds is an important factor in this issue. In this study we evaluated the correlation between seed mass, emergence rate and morphometric traits of seedlings in the pecan cultivar Importada. A significant positive correlation (r > 0.81) between seed mass and plantlet height, stem diameter, emergence rate and number of leaves was observed. Our results suggest that seed mass can be used as a direct method for seed selection towards production of vigorous pecan seedlings. However, since an increase in seed mass is usually associated with a decrease in the number of seeds that a plant can produce per unit canopy, long-duration studies are recommended in order to evaluate the influence of seed selection on a plantation’s production.

The production of forest seedlings is dependent of the processes of germination, root initiation and formation of roots and shoots, which influence indirectly the seedlings quality and they depend of substrate composition. Therefore, it was aimed to evaluate the addition of rice hulls in different substrates to better seedlings quality in Eucalyptus globulus. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four replications in a factorial scheme 3x5 , with three uncommercial substrates PlantFlorest I, II and III in the first factor, and proportions of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of rice hulls in the second, plus Bioplant® commercial substrate. The plants were evaluated 65 days after sowing (DAS). E. globulus seedlings produced in the substrates PlantFlorest have higher performance for all evaluated variables compared to Bioplant® substrate. The addition of rice hulls in proportions under 50% provides better results for analyzed parameters,and using of substrate PlantFlorest III pure provides the seedlings production with higher IQD., A produção de mudas florestais é dependente dos processos de germinação, iniciação de raiz e formação de raízes e brotos, que influenciam indiretamente a qualidade de mudas e dependem da composição do substrato. Portanto, objetivou-se avaliar a adição de casca de arroz em diferentes substratos para uma melhor qualidade de mudas de Eucalyptus globulus. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições contendo cinco plantas e em esquema fatorial 3x5, sendo: três substratos não comerciais PlantFlorest I, II e III no primeiro fator, e proporções de 0, 25, 50, 75 e 100% de casca de arroz no segundo, mais o substrato comercial Bioplant®. As plantas foram avaliadas 65 dias após a semeadura (DAS). Mudas de E. globulus produzidos em substratos PlantFlorest apresentaram maior desempenho em comparação ao BioPlant® para todas as variáveis estudadas. A adição de casca de arroz carbonizada em proporções inferiores a 50% proporcionaram melhores resultados para os parâmetros analisados, e o uso do substrato PlantFlorest III puro proporcionou a produção de mudas com maior IQD.

O tomateiro 'Yoshimatsu', desenvolvido para as condições amazônicas, apresenta resistência à Ralstonia solanacearum. O acesso às suas sementes é limitado, podendo a estaquia contribuir para a produção de mudas. Objetivou-se verificar a influência do tipo e tamanho de estacas herbáceas na qualidade das mudas dessa cultivar. O experimento foi conduzido na Universidade Federal do Amazonas, em Manaus-AM. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2x3 (dois tipos de estacas: apicais e subapicais; três comprimentos de estacas: 10; 15 e 20 cm), com quatro repetições de 10 estacas cada. As plantas-matrizes foram cultivadas no sistema convencional. Aos 60 dias do transplante, ramos foram cortados conforme os tratamentos pré-estabelecidos. As estacas resultantes foram plantadas em copos plásticos, contendo substrato comercial, e mantidas em telado com 50% de sombreamento. Após 30 dias do plantio, foram avaliadas as variáveis de sobrevivência (% de estacas brotadas, enraizadas e mortas) e as variáveis de vigor (número de brotações por estaca, massa seca das brotações e das raízes). De modo geral, as estacas brotadas foram 90% ou mais, as enraizadas foram superior a 95% e as mortas inferior a 5%. As estacas de 15 cm mostraram maior acúmulo de massa seca das brotações (0,49 g). As estacas apicais de 15 e 20 cm e subapicais de 20 cm apresentaram maior número de brotações (média de duas brotações por estaca). Em relação aos tipos de estacas, tanto as variáveis de sobrevivência quanto as variáveis de vigor evidenciaram que o emprego de estacas apicais ou subapicais não causou prejuízos à qualidade das mudas produzidas. As estacas herbáceas de tomateiro 'Yoshimatsu' apresentam facilidade de enraizamento e brotamento, mas as características tipo e tamanho das estacas devem ser observadas na produção de mudas. Assim, devem ser usadas estacas de 15 ou 20 cm de comprimento, tanto apicais quanto subapicais, pois resultaram em mudas de maior vigor. The 'Yoshimatsu' tomato plant, developed for Amazonian conditions, is resistant to Ralstonia solanacearum. Since the access to the seeds is limited, cuttings may contribute to the production of seedlings. This study aimed to investigate the influence of type and size of herbaceous cuttings upon the quality of seedlings of this cultivar. The experiment was carried out at the Federal University of Amazonas, in Manaus, Amazon state, Brazil. The experimental design was entirely randomized in a 2x3 factorial scheme (two types of cuttings: apical and sub apical; and three lengths: 10; 15 and 20 cm), with four replications of 10 cuttings each. The mother plants were grown in the conventional system. Sixty days after transplantation, branches were cut according to pre-established treatments. The resulting cuttings were planted in plastic cups containing commercial substrate and kept in a greenhouse with 50% shade. Thirty days after planting, the variables were evaluated for survival (number of sprouted, rooted and dead cuttings) and vigor (number of shoots per cutting and dry mass of shoots and roots). Overall, the percentage was 90% and higher for sprouted cuttings, 95% and higher for rooted cuttings and less than 5% for dead cuttings. The 15 cm cuttings showed greater accumulation of dry mass in shoots (0.49 g). Fifteen and 20 cm apical cuttings and 20 cm sub apical cuttings showed a higher number of shoots (average of two shoots per cutting). As for the kinds of cuttings, both survival and vigor variables showed that the use of apical or sub apical cuttings caused no damage to the quality of the seedlings produced. Herbaceous cuttings of the 'Yoshimatsu' tomato plant have shown easy rooting and sprouting, but characteristics such as type and size of the cuttings need to be considered before the production of seedlings. Therefore, cuttings of 15 or 20 cm in length, both apical and subapical, should be used since they have produced greater seedling vigor.

Visando a estudar a propagação por estaquia e mergulhia do 'Boysenberry' (híbrido entre 'Marionberry' e framboesa), o objetivo do presente trabalho foi quantificar o potencial rizogênico de estacas caulinares armazenadas a frio-úmido e tratadas com ácido indolbutírico e da mergulhia desse híbrido. No primeiro experimento, estacas caulinares de 15cm foram tratadas com diferentes concentrações de ácido indolbutírico (AIB): 1000, 2000, 3000 e 4000mg L-1 por 10seg., além do controle composto somente por água. No segundo experimento, as estacas foram armazenadas a frio-úmido por 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 e 60 dias, além do controle sem armazenamento. Em ambos os experimentos, as estacas caulinares foram enterradas 2/3 de seu comprimento na posição vertical, utilizando a vermiculita de grânulos finos como substrato, em telado com sombreamento de 50%. Após 60 dias, foram analisadas as porcentagens de enraizamento, brotação e o número médio de raízes. No terceiro experimento, as mergulhias de ponta foram realizadas na porção apical dos ramos, aplicando-se, na extremidade do ramo, diferentes concentrações de AIB (0, 1000, 2000, 3000 e 4000mg L-1). Os ramos foram enterrados em caixas de plástico contendo o substrato casca de pinus umedecido. Passados 45 dias, foram removidos para a mensuração. Concluiu-se que as estacas caulinares devem ser armazenadas a frio-úmido por 20 dias e não serem tratadas com AIB; a mergulhia de ponta promoveu maior emissão de raízes quando tratadas com 4000mg L-1. In order to study the propagation by cutting and layering by 'Boysenberry' (hybrid between 'Marionberry'e framboesa), the objective of the present study was to quantify the rizogenic potential of stems cuttings storage at cold temperature and treated with indolbutyric acid and the point layering of this hybrid. In the first experiment, the stems cuttings of 15cm of length were treated with different concentrations of indolbutyric acid (IBA): 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000mg L-1 for 10 seconds, and control only for water. In the second experiment, the stems cuttings of 'Boysenberry' were cold storage by 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 days, and control without storage. In both experiments, the stems cuttings were buried 2/3 of its length in the vertical position, using the vermiculita as substrate, in greenhouse with 50% of light. After 60 days, the rooting and sprouting percentage and the number of roots were evaluated. In the third experiment, the point layering were accomplished in the apical portion of the branches, being applied different concentrations of IBA (0, 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000mg L-1) and soon after, they were buried in plastic boxes containing humidified pinus substrate. After 45 days they were removed for evaluation. It can be concluded that the stems cuttings should be stored at cold for 20 days and without IBA; the point layering promoted larger emission of roots when they were treated with 4000mg L-1.

Sementes de pinhão manso (Jatropha curcas L.) possuem características ortodoxas e requerem conhecimento sobre os fatores que afetam a manutenção de sua qualidade fisiológica. Assim, objetivou-se neste estudo identificar as condições adequadas de armazenamento para a manutenção da qualidade fisiológica de sementes de pinhão manso. Na avaliação dos métodos de armazenamento, utilizou-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 3x3+1, sendo os fatores constituídos por três embalagens (saco de papel Kraft, saco de polietileno e embalagem de vidro), três ambientes de armazenamento (laboratório com condições não controladas, câmara refrigerada a 14 - 16 ºC e refrigerador a 4-6 ºC) e avaliação inicial do material em estudo. Foram analisados os valores de teor de água, primeira contagem de germinação em ambiente controlado. Também se avaliou o índice de velocidade de emergência, porcentagem de germinação das sementes e Índice de Qualidade de Dickson para as mudas após 45 dias da semeadura em ambiente propagativo não controlado. As sementes armazenadas em embalagem de vidro e ambiente de geladeira mantiveram a sua qualidade fisiológica, podendo ser armazenadas pelo período de 180 dias. Seeds from the physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) have orthodox characteristics and knowing the factors that affect their physiological qualities is necessary. The objective of this study was to identify the appropriate storage conditions for maintaining the physiological quality of physic nut seeds. Storage methods were evaluated using a randomized factorial 3x3+1 design, with factors constituted by three different packagings (Kraft paper bags, polythene bags and packaging in glass), three storage environments (laboratory room temperature, refrigerated chamber at 14-16 °C and a refrigerator at 4-6 °C) and with an initial assessment of the study material. The water content, first germination count in a controlled environment, emergence speed, percentage seed germination and Dickson's quality index for the seedlings 45 days after sowing in an environment of uncontrolled propagation, were evaluated. The characteristics of seed stored in glass containers and a refrigerated environment were maintained better and seeds can be stored for 180 days without any reduction in their physiological quality.

Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar a emergência de plântulas de nogueira-macadâmia, por meio do uso de incisão nas sementes e imersão em ácido giberélico. Sementes do cultivar IAC-Campinas B, extraídas de frutos maduros foram padronizadas quanto ao tamanho e sanidade. Foram imergidas em recipiente preenchido por água. Em 80 sementes, realizou-se incisão de 0,5 cm na casca, no sentido longitudinal ao embrião, deixando as amêndoas expostas. Outras 80 sementes foram mantidas intactas. Em seguida, todas as sementes foram submersas em diferentes concentrações de ácido giberélico: 0, 150, 300 e 450 mg L-1, por 90 horas, com sistema de oxigenação. Após esse período, as sementes foram colocadas em bandejas plásticas, entre camadas de areia grossa autoclavada, preservadas em laboratório com temperatura controlada (em torno de 25ºC). As bandejas foram umedecidas diariamente, com auxílio de regador manual. Após 180 dias, mensurou-se a porcentagem de emergência, os comprimentos médios das raízes, das partes aéreas e a massas secas médias totais das plântulas. Concluiu-se que a incisão e imersão de nogueira-macadâmia em ácido giberélico foram prejudiciais à emergência e desenvolvimento das plântulas. The objective of the present work was to evaluate the emergency of macadamia nut seedlings through incision and immersion of the seeds in the gibberellic acid. Seeds of IAC-Campinas B cultivar, extracted from mature fruits, were standardized according to size and health. They were immerged in recipient filled with water. In 80 seeds a 0.5 cm incision was done in the peel, longitudinally in relation the embryo, leaving the almonds exposed. The other 80 seeds were kept intact. Soon after, the seeds were submerged in different concentrations of gibberellic acid: 0, 150, 300 and 450 mg L-1, for 90 hours, with oxygen system. After that period, the seeds were placed in plastic trays, among layers of autoclaved sand, and preserved in laboratory with controlled temperature (around 25ºC). The trays were humidified daily. After 180 days, the emergency percentage, average length of the roots, average length of the aerial part and average total dry mass of the seedlings were evaluated. It was concluded that the incision and immersion of the seeds of macadamia nut gibberellic acid were harmful to the emergence and development of the seedlings.

Sendo assim, o presente trabalho teve por objetivos estudar a viabilidade da manutenção dos ramos porta-borbulhas de diferentes cultivares de marmeleiro, por meio do armazenamento a frio, e diagnosticar o método de enxertia para promover melhor desenvolvimento do enxerto. Ramos dos marmeleiros 'Japonês' (Chaenomeles sinensis), 'Smyrna', 'Portugal', 'Mendoza Inta-37' e 'Provence' (Cydonia oblonga) foram coletados em julho de 2008. Uma parte dos ramos foi utilizada para a realização da enxertia (métodos de borbulhia e garfagem) em mudas de seis meses de idade do porta-enxerto 'Japonês', e a outra parte foi armazenada sob baixa temperatura (estacas envoltas em papel umedecido, embrulhadas em sacos de polietileno colocadas em câmara fria a 4°C), por 30 e 60 dias. Passados 60 dias, foi mensurada a porcentagem de brotação dos enxertos e, ao final de 120 dias da realização das enxertias, foram mensurados o comprimento, o diâmetro e a massa seca média dos enxertos. Concluiu-se que, apesar de as cultivares apresentarem diferença, recomenda-se que os ramos sejam armazenados por até 30 dias, sendo utilizada a enxertia pelo método de garfagem. In order to increase the use of propagation material, enlarge the offer period of the quince seedlings production and dynamic use of the labor in the nursery, it becomes necessary to store the of budsticks. Thus, the present research aimed to study the feasibility of the maintaining budstick of different quince cultivars, through cold storage and to verify the grafting method to promote better development of the graft. Branches of the 'Japonês' (Chaenomeles sinensis), 'Smyrna', 'Portugal', 'Mendoza Inta-37' and 'Provence' (Cydonia oblonga) quince cultivars were collected in July, 2008. One of the branches was used for grafting (methods budding and cleft grafting methods) in 'Japonês' rootstock seedlings of six months of age and other part was stored at e low temperature (wrapped up cutting in humidified paper and wrapped up in polyethylene sacks, placed in cold chamber for 4°C) for 30 and 60 days. After 60 days, the percentage of sprouting was measured and 120 days after grafting, the length, diameter and mass dries average of the grafts were measured. It was concluded that, despite the cultivars presented anydifference, it is recommended that the branches need to be stored for up to 30 days, if the cleft grafting is used. A utilização de tubetes para produzir mudas de cafeeiro (Coffea arabica L.) tornou-se uma realidade. Objetivando avaliar o uso de substratos adubados ou não com fertilizante de liberação gradual e seus efeitos na nutrição, na formação, na cercosporiose e nos custos de produção de mudas de cafeeiro em tubetes, conduziu-se um experimento em viveiro, em esquema fatorial (4x2) com quatro substratos combinados com duas adubações, tendo quatro repetições. As parcelas foram constituídas por 16 tubetes de 120 mL, considerando-se como plantas úteis as seis centrais. Os tratamentos consistiram dos substratos S1= Substrato comercial I, S2 = Substrato comercial II, S3 = Substrato de eucalipto e S4 = 80% esterco de curral + 20% terra de subsolo, todos com e sem adubação com fertilizante de liberação gradual. No geral, os melhores substratos para formação de mudas de cafeeiro em tubetes foram os substratos não comerciais ou orgânicos, independentemente de receberem ou não adubação suplementar. Observou-se redução da cercosporiose com a nutrição mineral, principalmente com o cálcio. Com a utilização de todos os substratos houve ganho econômico em relação ao custo por milheiro de mudas. A maior economia foi obtida com o substrato S4, seguida do substrato S3, com melhor relação custo/benefício. The utilization of stiff plastic containers for producing coffee seedlings (Coffea arabica L.) is a reality. Aiming to evaluate the effects of substrate type enriched or not with slow-release fertilizer on vegetative growth, mineral nutrition, production cost and, brown eye spot of coffee seedlings, an experiment was conducted in the plant nursery. The experimental design was a factorial scheme with four substrates in the presence and absence of supplementary fertilization, with four replicates. The plots were made of 16 containers of 120 ml, using six central plants for evaluation. The treatments consisted of S1 = Commercial Substrate I, S2 = Commercial Substrate II, S3 = Eucalyptus Substrate and S4 = 80% bovine manure + 20% subsoil material with and without fertilization. In general, the best substrates for formation of coffee seedlings were not commercial substrates or organic, regardless of fertilization. The brown eye spot was reduced with balanced nutrition, mainly with calcium. All substrates provide economic return. The largest economy was found in substrate S4, followed by S3, showing the highest coast/benefit rate.
