There has been an enormous development in the design, function and appearance of equipment during the last 15 years. An increasing older population, clinical guidelines and demanding consumers have led to manufacturers providing more sophisticated equipment, enabling people to maintain their independence. Further, such design has reduced the risks associated with manual handling and pressure ulcer development. This article will consider a range of equipment currently in use, such as manual handling equipment, stairlifts, pressure-relieving devices and armchairs.
