RESUMEN: Asumiendo el complejo mundo sin distancias que establecen los nuevos "espacios" del siglo XXI donde nos desenvolvemos, cuya modalidad esencial es el "exceso", es cómo, dentro este laberíntico y barroco presente, quizá podremos acercarnos a establecer ciertas bases conceptuales para la generación de una posible cartografía del arte contemporáneo, como consiguió Alfred H. Barr, en 1936, al realizar un diagrama que explicaba los orígenes y las derivas de algunos movimientos artísticos del siglo XX. Con dicho objetivo, y teniendo en cuenta la determinación tecnológica del metamedio digital en los modos de comunicación y producción contemporáneos, se abordan en el presente artículo fundamentos como el concepto de "rizoma", el de "palimpsesto" o la teoría de la deriva a fin de servir como sustento en la plástica configuración diagramática de tautológicos mapas del arte contemporáneo. Una estrategia cartográfica que, en función de su estética propia, también en ocasiones se vuelve recurrente cuando determinados/as artistas acometen expresivos "viajes interiores" en atención a sus propias impresiones o intimidades de carácter subjetivo. ABSTRACT: Assuming the complex world without distances established by the new "spaces" of the 21st century where we live, whose essential modality is "excess", is how, within this labyrinthine and baroque present, we can perhaps approach establishing certain conceptual bases for the generation of a possible cartography of contemporary art, as was achieved by Alfred H. Barr, in 1936, when he made a diagram that explained the origins and drifts of some artistic movements of the 20th century. With this objective, and taking into account the technological determination of the digital metamedia in contemporary modes of communication and production, fundamentals such as the concept of "rhizome", that of "palimpsest" or the theory of drift to end are addressed in this article. to serve as support in the plastic diagrammatic configuration of tautological maps of contemporary art. A cartographic strategy that, depending on its own aesthetics, also occasionally becomes recurrent when certain artists undertake expressive "inner journeys" in attention to their own subjective impressions or intimacies.

Arguing against the long-standing belief that Thuc. 3.82.4 refers to words changing their meanings, this article shows that, according to the passage, the way in which people value actions and apply value-words to actions in peace differs from how they value and apply value-words to the same types of actions in stasis. But the meaning of the value-words themselves remains the same in both circumstances. The passage is about neither meaning nor the propagandistic manipulation of language but about the distorting effect of stasis on the moral assessment of actions.

Anthropologists have recently shown an increasing concern with secular formations. This exploratory article inquires into the secular formation of anthropology itself by initiating an examination of its relation to theology, deemed anthropology’s disciplinary Other. I argue for recognizing a complex relation, whereby anthropology in some ways forgets theology, in others sustains it, and in still others invites critique by it. Analyzing anthropology from its theological edges may reinvigorate awareness of its ethical dimensions as a secular enterprise, as well as help measure its distance from (or proximity to) dominant projects, such as the Enlightenment and the nation-state, which were crucial for its founding in the modern world. An anthropology critically curious about its inherited alienation from theological modes of reasoning may not only become better at investigating the possibilities that cultural forms can take, but also become aware of new forms that the discipline could itself take.

Este artículo analiza los semanarios 18 de marzo (1962-1963) y Compañero (1963-1965) dirigidos por Mario Valotta. En estas publicaciones se advierten disputas por la identidad peronista a comienzos de la década del '60, y la progresiva configuración de discursos, marcas de autoridad, y proyecciones políticas que delinearon los contornos de la izquierda peronista como cultura política. Se examinan los modos situados de poner en escena y de buscar instalar públicamente formas de ser y estar en el peronismo en el contexto de reorganización partidaria demandado por Perón luego de las elecciones presidenciales de julio de 1963. This article analyzes the weeklies 18 de Marzo (1962-1963) and Compañero (1963-1965) directed by Mario Valotta. In these, we can notice several disputes over the Peronist identity in the early 1960s, and the onward configuration of speeches, authority marks, and political projections that outlined the Peronist left as a po-litical culture. The ways of staging and publicly install a particular way to be in Peronism in the context of party reorganization demanded by Perón after the presidential elections of July 1963 are examined. The purpose of the presented study is to investigate the zonal drifts of Equatorial Plasma Bubbles (EPB) which applied two different ground-based instruments. Malaysia Real-Time Kinematics GNSS Network (MyRTKnet), consists more than 78 GPS receivers was used to observe EPB along 96° East to 120° East longitudes. Subsequently, zonal drift of EPBs derived from GPS-ROTI is compared with neutral winds velocity from Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI). On 10 April 2013, we founded the maximum drift is about 194.4 m/s at 1430 UT to 1500 UT whereas the minimum drift is 111.1 m/s at 1330 UT to 1400 UT. The results illustrate that temporal variations of EPB zonal drift velocities are consistent with the neutral winds.

Combined X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) were applied to investigate the interaction between reaction atmosphere, adsorbates and Pt oxidation state of Pt/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ model diesel oxidation catalysts under CO/NO oxidation conditions. The Pt oxidation state was correlated to the adsorbates on the catalyst’s surface. Even at low temperature the reaction atmosphere had a strong impact on the oxidation state of the catalyst, and the oxidation state in turn strongly affected CO adsorption on the Pt particles.

This paper studies the problem of passive control of a multi-storey building subjected to an earthquake disturbance. The building is represented as a homogeneous mass chain model, i.e., a chain of identical masses in which there is an identical passive connection between neighbouring masses and a similar connection to a movable point. The paper considers passive interconnections of the most general type, which may require the use of inerters in addition to springs and dampers. It is shown that the scalar transfer functions from the disturbance to a given inter-storey drift can be represented as complex iterative maps. Using these expressions, two graphical approaches are proposed: one gives a method to achieve a prescribed value for the uniform boundedness of these transfer functions independent of the length of the mass chain, and the other is for a fixed length of the mass chain. A case study is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques using a 10-storey building model. The disturbance suppression performance of the designed interconnection is also verified for a 10-storey building model which has a different stiffness distribution but with the same undamped first natural frequency as the homogeneous model.

Some of the basic effects of particle drifts on cosmic rays in the inner and outer Heliosphere are discussed. We bring arguments supporting that particle drifts, convection and adiabatic cooling can be treated by the same matching condition at discontinuities, the apparent infinite value of drift speed is consistent with the diffusive description. Simple illustrative examples are presented to highlight the differences between drift and no-drift solutions of the Parker equation. A simplistic model simulation is presented to demonstrate the role of drifts in the 22-year solar modulation cycle. The nature and possible effects of drift in the heliosheath are briefly addressed.

In arc plasma torches electrode wear is the main reason for slow changes in the electrical and thermal torch characteristics. Such effects hinder technological applications of this type of plasma torches whenever the enthalpy must be maintained at a fixed level, or varied as needed. To solve this problem, a new method and algorithm for torch control are proposed. The time evolution of the arc current, voltage and thermal power loss of the torch are recorded. The values measured are used to find the required value of the enthalpy.

Pacific drift currents were used by a group of oceanographers to estimate the path of a drift bottle that was found on a beach of Barkley Sound in Vancouver Island by Richard Strickland on June 10, 1990. The Chinese rice wine bottle, which remained unopened until December 18, 1991, contained six leaflets, one appealing for the release of China's well-known dissident, Wei Jingsheng. The bottle was one of thousands set adrift as part of a propaganda effort from the islands of Quemoy and Matsu off mainland China shortly after Wei was sentenced in 1979 to 15 years in prison (see Figure 1 for locations). Wei was in poor health and still in prison when the bottle made its way across the Pacific Ocean.

Sober Ways, Politic Drifts and Amiable Persuasions; approaching the Information Highway from the Dusty Trail

Resumen El comportamiento estructural de las edificaciones ante la acción de cargas sísmicas en ocasiones puede modificarse con la consideración de la Interacción Dinámica Suelo-Estructura (IDSE), aspecto que demuestra la importancia del estudio de sus efectos en la misma. Este estudio fue realizado, utilizando el software ETABS V17, para edificios de cinco, 10 y 15 niveles ubicados sobre un suelo tipo D en la provincia de Santiago de Cuba, catalogada como de alto peligro sísmico según la NC 46: 2017[1]. Las edificaciones se caracterizan por presentar tipología estructural mixta de hormigón armado con igual distribución en planta y elevación. Para las tres alturas propuestas se llevó a cabo la comparación de los valores de periodo de oscilación, fuerzas sísmicas por piso, desplazamientos en el tope de la edificación y derivas considerando dos condiciones de la base: empotrada y con IDSE mediante las formulaciones de Sargsian. La interpretación de los resultados reveló mayor influencia de la consideración de la IDSE para las edificaciones de 10 y 15 niveles. Abctract The structural behavior of buildings under the action of seismic loads can sometimes be modified with the consideration of the Soil-Structure Dynamic Interaction (IDSE), an aspect that demonstrates the importance of studying its effects on it. Considering the Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction (dssi) in the structural behavior of buildings exposed to seismic activity can be of great importance in some cases. The present study was developed using the software ETABS V17, for buildings with 5, 10 and 15 stories respectively, located on type D soil in Santiago de Cuba province, classified as a seismic high-hazard zone in the NC 46:2017[1]. Buildings are characterized by a reinforced concrete dual system, with the same distribution in plan and elevation. For the three different heights models, a comparison was made taking into account the values of the vibration periods, seismic loads by level, displacements at the top of the building and drifts considering two boundary conditions at the base: Fixed and with Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction (dssi) using the formulations of Sargsian. The results showed a greater influence of the DSSI consideration on the structural response of the 10 and 15 stories buildings.

The concepts of a local standard of rest and a standard solar motion and the nature of the data giving rise to these concepts are so much part of the given knowledge of galactic astronomy that it hardly seems possible that anything new might be learnt from continued study of this subject. But the examination of local stellar kinematics is by no means a tidy subject, and the history of its development does conceal one or two peculiarities which bear reconsideration.

Most readers of this Journal will know a good deal about the long-established practice of setting adrift in the sea sealed bottles or other watertight vessels containing messages or questionnaire papers. There are numerous records stretching over a very long term of years of this having been done with the aim of conveying information—often in a jovial sort of way, but sometimes when it was feared that a ship seemed likely to be lost. In the latter case to which very few authentic records relate, mariners fearing the worst adopted the practice for obvious enough reasons. In the former case, records of the practice are legion and, a century or so ago, it was a common thing for floating bottles with papers inside to be flung overboard from outbound emigrant ships. The habit was still fairly common in much more recent times, and the writer once had quite a goodly number of missives recovered from stranded beer and wine bottles which, after the conclusion of a farewell party, had been thrown out from ships bound for America from the Elbe and other departure points. Generally speaking, such corked bottles were used empty (apart from the enclosed message), and so would perform journeys decided in large part by the winds. Where a serious intent lay behind the launching of a bottle designed to convey true news of distress, no very strong hopes could ever have been reposed in the glass messenger, since there could never have been any idea as to when it might go ashore and be found. It is probable that many bottles carrying messages of the sort have, over the years, been broken on rocky coasts or have stranded on unvisited shores perhaps to suffer burial in shifting sands.

In this period, approximately 1000 Greenland right whales (Balaena mysticetus) were killed and processed on the island leaving much uneaten plankton behind in the sea. Plankton-eating birds must have taken advantage of the situation and it is likely that the number of seabird rookeries on Jan Mayen increased. The combination of written sources and field data makes Jan Mayen a very challenging island for research.

Limited partners allocate capital into venture capital funds with the expectation of a risk-return profile matching the fund's investment style in terms of startup investment stage, location and industry. This paper draws a connection between style drifts in these three dimensions and the connected risk-taking attitude of the general partner. By analyzing a sample of 31,521 investments with respect to the motivation for style drifts, this paper seeks to answer whether style drifts are deliberate risk-shifts or happen out of competitive pressure. The results suggest that venture capitalists increase risk, when they have strong past performance and public markets are bullish in order to make the most of the balance of compensation and employment incentives. This balancing most likely constitutes an agency conflict between limited partners and general partners. Further, results show that most risky style drifts have a negative impact on the probability of a successful exit even after controlling for performance persistence and endogeneity. Finally, the findings show that aggregate style drift has a negative effect on a fund's performance measured as its exit rate.

Almost every year, ash drifts from forest fires in north-western Canada into northern Europe, altering forecasts on both continents, settling in Antarctic ice and turning the skies over the world’s major cities an apocalyptic orange. As smoke drifts from the forests into nearby communities and distant urban centres, it becomes the medium through which most people experience forest fire, leaving traces on memories and bodies. Although wildfires and their associated plumes are getting worse, people have a long and dynamic relationship with forest fire smoke which can be understood through the lens of air pollution and forestry history. Using British Columbia, Canada as a case study, I argue that the difficulty of separating wildfire smoke from other types of air pollution has worked to the advantage of land managers interested in supporting the forestry industry, with negative impacts for northern communities. &nbsp
