We propose a simple way to test the Abelian decomposition of QCD, the existence of two types of gluons, experimentally at LHC. The Abelian decomposition decomposes the gluons to the color neutral neurons and colored chromons gauge independently. This refines the Feynman diagram in a way that the color conservation is explicit, and generalizes the quark model to the quark and chromon model. We predict that the neuron jet has the color factor 3/4 and has a sharpest jet radius and smallest particle multiplicity, while the chromon jet with the color factor 9/4 remains the broadest jet. Moreover, the neuron jet has a distinct color flow which forms an ideal color dipole, while the quark and chromon jets have distorted dipole pattern.

The Abelian decomposition of QCD which decomposes the gluons to the color neutral binding gluons and the colored valence gluons shows that QCD can be viewed as the restricted QCD (RCD) made of the binding gluons which has the valence gluons as colored source, and simplifies the QCD dynamics greatly. In particular, it tells that the gauge covariant valence gluons can be treated as the constituents of hadrons, and generalizes the quark model to the quark and valence gluon model. So it provides a comprehensive picture of glueballs and their mixing with quarkoniums, and predicts new hybrid hadrons made of quarks and valence gluons. We discuss how these predictions could be confirmed experimentally. In particular we present a systematic search for the ground state glueballs and their mixing with quarkoniums below 2 GeV in $0^{++}$, $2^{++}$, and $0^{-+}$ channels within the framework of QCD, and predict the relative branching ratios of the radiative decay of $\psi$ to the physical states.

We show how to generalize the previous result of the monopole condensation in SU(2) QCD to SU(3) QCD. We present the gauge independent Weyl symmetric Abelian decomposition of the SU(3) QCD which decomposes the gluons to the color neutral neurons and the colored chromons. The decomposition allows us to separate the gauge invariant and parity conserving monopole background gauge independently, and reduces the non-Abelian gauge symmetry to a discrete color reflection symmetry which is easier to handle. With this we obtain the infra-red finite and gauge invariant integral expression of the one-loop effective action which is Weyl symmetric in three SU(2) subgroups. Integrating it gauge invariantly imposing the color reflection invariance we obtain the SU(3) QCD effective potential which generates the stable monopole condensation and the mass gap. We maintain that the search for the electroweak monopole is a key issue in the advancement of our understanding of the standard model. Unlike the Dirac monopole in electrodynamics, which is optional, the electroweak monopole should exist within the framework of the standard model. The mass of the electroweak monopole is estimated to be 5 to 7 TeV, but could be as large as 15 TeV. Above threshold its production rate at the LHC is expected to be relatively large, (1/alpha(em)2) times bigger than that of W+W- pairs. ~Based on the gauge invariant quark canonical momentum we construct two theoretically possible decompositions of nucleon momentum to those of quarks and gluons. We predict that either 6% or 21% of nucleon momentum is carried by gluons, depending on what type of gluons are in nucleons. We clarify the existing confusions on this problem and discuss the physical implications of our result on the proton spin crisis problem.

We present a simple method to calculate the one-loop effective action of QCD which reduces the calculation to that of SU(2) QCD. For the chromomagnetic background we show that the effective potential has an absolute minimum only when two color magnetic fields $H_{\mu\nu}^3$ and $H_{\mu\nu}^8$ are orthogonal to each other. For the chromoelectric background we find that the imaginary part of the effective action has a negative signature, which implies the gluon pair-annihilation. We show that one can express the knot equation of Skyrme theory completely in terms of the vacuum potential of SU(2) QCD, in such a way that the equation is viewed as a generalized Lorentz gauge condition which selects one vacuum for each class of topologically equivalent vacua. From this we show that there are three ways to describe the QCD vacuum (and thus the knot), by a non-linear sigma field, a complex vector field, or by an Abelian gauge potential. This tells that the QCD vacuum can be classified by an Abelian gauge potential with an Abelian Chern-Simon index., 4 pages

We point out a critical defect in the calculation of the functional determinant of the gluon loop in the Savvidy-Nielsen-Olesen (SNO) effective action. We review the quantum instability of the Savvidy-Nielsen-Olesen (SNO) vacuum of the one-loop effective action of SU(2) QCD, and point out a critical defect in the calculation of the functional determinant of the gluon loop in the SNO effective action. We prove that the gauge invariance, in particular the color reflection invariance, exclude the unstable tachyonic modes from the gluon loop integral. Based on the gauge independent decomposition of the non-Abelian gauge field into the dual potential and the valence potential, we calculate the one loop effective action of SU(2) QCD in an arbitrary constant monopole background, using the background field method. Our result provides a strong evidence for a dynamical symmetry breaking through the monopole condensation, which can induce the dual Meissner effect and establish the confinement of color, in the non-Abelian gauge theory. The result is obtained by separating the topological degrees which describe the non-Abelian monopoles from the dynamical degrees of the gauge potential, and integrating out all the dynamical degrees of QCD., 15 pages, 1 figure. We present finite energy analytic monopole and dyon solutions whose size is fixed by the electroweak scale. We discuss two types of solutions. The first type is obtained by regularizing the recent solutions of Cho and Maison by modifying the coupling strength of the quartic self-interaction of $W$-boson in Weinberg-Salam model. The second is obtained by enlarging the gauge group $SU(2) \times U(1)$ to $SU(2) \times SU(2)$. Our result demonstrates that one could actually construct genuine electroweak monopole and dyon whose mass scale is much smaller than the grand unification scale, with a minor modification of the electroweak interaction without compromizing the underlying gauge invariance., Comment: 28 pages, 4 figures

We demonstrate the existence of stable knot solitons in the standard electroweak theory whose topological quantum number $\pi_3(S^2)$ is fixed by the Chern-Simon index of the $Z$ boson. The electroweak knots are made of the helical magnetic flux tube of $Z$ boson which has a non-trivial dressing of the Higgs field, which could also be viewed as two quantized flux rings linked together whose linking number becomes the knot quantum number. We discuss the physical impacts of the ``Cho decomposition'' (or the ``Cho-Faddeev-Niemi-Shabanov decomposition'') of the non-Abelian gauge potential on QCD. We show how the decomposition makes a subtle but important modification on the non-Abelian dynamics, and present three physically equivalent quantization schemes of QCD which are consistent with the decomposition. In particular, we show that the decomposition enlarges the dynamical degrees of QCD by making the topological degrees of the non-Abelian gauge symmetry dynamical. Furthermore with the decomposition we show that the Skyrme-Faddeev theory of non-linear sigma model and QCD have almost identical topological structures. In specific we show that an essential ingredient in both theories is the Wu-Yang type non-Abelian monopole, and that the Faddeev-Niemi knots of the Skyrme-Faddeev theory can actually be interpreted to describe the multiple vacua of the SU(2) QCD. Finally we argue that the Skyrme-Faddeev theory is, just like QCD, a theory of confinement which confines the magnetic flux of the monopoles., 15 pages

The effective action with homogeneous valence (off-diagonal) gluons as background fields in the extended SU(2) model of QCD is obtained in one-loop approximation. We keep the manifest gauge and Lorentz invariance during whole calculation by using a special gauge-fixing recipe and taking into account the quartic interaction terms in the original Lagrangian as well. We present a gauge independent method to construct the effective action of QCD, and calculate the one loop effective action of $SU(2)$ QCD in an arbitrary constant background field. We present a new type of spherically symmetric monopole and dyon solutions with the magnetic charge $ 4\pi/e$ in the standard Weinberg-Salam model. The monopole (and dyon) could be interpreted as a non-trivial hybrid between the abelian Dirac monopole and non-abelian 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole (with an electric charge). Recently it has been pointed out that the skyrmions carry two independent topology, the baryon topology and the monopole topology. We provide more evidence to support this. In specific, we prove that the baryon number $B$ can be decomposed to the monopole number $m$ and the shell number $n$, so that $B$ is given by $B=mn$. This tells that the skyrmions may more conveniently be classified by two integers $(m,n)$. This is because the rational map which determines the baryon number in the popular multi-skyrmion solutions actually describes the monopole topology $\pi_2(S^2)$ which is different from the baryon topology $\pi_3(S^3)$. Moreover, we show that the baby skyrmions can also be generalized to have two topology, $\pi_1(S^1)$ and $\pi_2(S^2)$, and thus should be classified by two topological numbers $(m,n)$. Furthermore, we show that the vacuum of the Skyrme theory can be classified by two topological numbers $(p,q)$, the $\pi_1(S^1)$ of the sigma-field and the $\pi_3(S^2)$ of the normalized pion-field. This means that the Skyrme theory has multiple vacua similar to the Sine-Gordon theory and QCD combined together. This puts the Skyrme theory in a totally new perspective.
