Presentation on content curation strategies in the face of disinformation. A curation process according to the 4S's method is synthesized, sense making techniques are presented with examples and the ethics and limits of curation are discussed. Two curation strategies in the face of misinformation are presented: curation as a selection of digital content on a topic and curation as a support for verification. They are exemplified with the analysis of five cases in Twitter threads.

The digital media have undergone an unprecedented transformation in recent years by exploiting the combined communicative potential of interaction and visualisation, generating, in this way, new narrative forms and journalistic stories. But this is not something that can be analysed in isolation. Understanding the digital media requires addressing the study of interactive texts and the platforms of the digital ecosystem from different perspectives. The digital media today have highly permeable boundaries, the guidelines that define them being subject to constant modification: their texts are dynamic and constantly changing, their systems operate, thanks to artificial intelligence, as just another actor that analyses, collects and manages information. The space separating senders and receivers of messages has become fuzzy and interwoven. For this reason, the study of digital journalism has to assume this unremitting transformation as simply one more element in the debate about the media, and accept it as a characteristic of the digital culture that defines the field of communication.

Social Media Live Streaming (SMLS) offers the possibility of making and distributing live videos, in different formats, through social networks. In addition, it allows the broadcaster to receive instant feedback: number of connected users, messages and emoticons from their audiences. Facebook, instead of creating its own network to implement this new type of content, has decided to include SMLS as a functionality within its family of products. Thus, in a matter of months it has established itself as the main reference for live news broadcasting. Through a case study (NTN24 Venezuela broadcasts during the National Constituent Assembly elections), the following work explores how Facebook Live uses SMLS technologies, its value for digital media and the opportunities to carry out news coverage through videos in straight. All this in order to understand its role within the innovation and trends of the journalistic environment.

Social Media Live Streaming (SMLS) includes the set of social media that allow to play live videos in different formats. These technologies, from the perspective of the broadcast, offer the opportunity to make decisions instantly based on the feedback returned by their followers. This concept can only be understood since the launch of Periscope in 2015, whose fast growth has transformed it into a great ally for digital journalism. The continued use of the platform –highlighted as "app of the year" by Apple– justifies the projection of the Digital News Project, prepared by the Reuters Institute of Oxford University, which aims that this 2017 will be the “Year of Live and Social Video” for journalism. Through a case study (transmissions of Efecto Cocuyo during the Venezuelan National Consultation), the following paper analyzes Periscope as an SMLS, with the aim of understanding its role within the innovation and trends for a digital journalism that wishes to improve its reach every day towards audiences with increasing connection speeds, and consuming mostly online videos.

We present a method or system for the analysis and evaluation of content curation in the digital media, which we call the Curation Analysis System (CAS). The system comprises two main dimensions – namely, Curation and Content – which, in turn, are made up of a series of parameters and indicators to which we assign a score. Each parameter is described in detail under the following four headings: Definition, Explanation, Procedure, and Examples. Procedure includes a list of indicators, and for each of them an analytical question and its corresponding scoring system. In Examples, a set of good content curation practices for use in the digital media are presented, in this case, related to the same format, that of newsletters.

The paper proposes an evaluation of the impact of paywalls on information. A new media model based on digital platforms and paywalls is the theoretical basis. A literature review shows that currently many newspapers operate some kind of paywalls; however, the choice of free and/or paywalled content is not obvious. We study the cases of three Swiss newspapers and three French newspapers. The types of paywalls and the subscription prices are described. Data concerning free and paid articles are analysed for some main sections. Results show differentiation between free and paid articles concerning the authors and the types of articles. Different strategies appear, particularly at the level of different sections of a newspaper. Finally, we discuss the idea of a kind of “Gresham’s law” of information.

Introduction: Newsletters or electronic bulletins are currently a product of growing importance in digital media and represent a channel that is highly conducive to the curation of content, which is one of the services that is considered to be most relevant in 21st-century digital journalism. The main goal of this work is to analyze the use of journalistic content curation in newsletters emitted by the Spanish press. Methodology: To achieve this goal, a study using an evaluative methodology has been carried out, based on an analysis system composed of parameters and indicators organized around two major areas or dimensions: Content and Curation. All the newsletters (84) from 16 relevant Spanish newspapers, both traditional and native digital, have been analyzed for two months. Results: The results provide a snapshot of the characteristics of journalistic curation in terms of the amount of curated content, its time range and origin, the information sources, the authorship, the curation techniques, and how links are used to provide information. Discussion and conclusions: Based on the results of this analysis, we can depict the typical journalistic bulletin, offer a ranking of the best Spanish newsletters and the media, and propose a conceptualization of content curation, revealing the existence of two types of curation: intellectual and automated.

Twenty years after the appearance of the first newspapers on the Internet, the media in general and the press in particular are immersed in a singularly critical, uncertain and disconcerting situation. In these moments of profound changes, threats and opportunities are mixed in a still uncertain cocktail which is not very well known what will arise. The threats come from the crisis of the written press, fueled by the loss of readers and the decline in advertising, by the emergence of new news agents and by doubts about the mediating role of the journalist. The economic crisis, which began with virulence in the last months of 2008, caused, among other effects, a drastic reduction in the investments of companies and institutions in media advertising, a fact that attacks the newspaper business model. The sharp blow hit in the reduction of advertising revenue, superimposed cultural change superimposes on the habits of news consumption, which is making its way as new (and not so new) generations of readers stop buying newspapers on paper (or reduce consumption) to read current information directly on the Internet.

The mass media on the net offer to Web users personalized services of current news. These services consist of messages with text and/or images including those news given and sent by a terminal to a computer or a mobile phone allowing the connection to the Web. Last studies of prospective made on the mass media field are in favour of personalization services considering the impact of new technologies. In the next future, the one to one services or individualized segmentation will have priority. The power of decision and selection of information will hand on the demand, but not on the supply like until now, where the mass can choose and offer the news from one people to many others. This communication wants to make an exhaustive revision of Spanish mass media Webs that offer personalized services news. They are critically analyzed and, at the same time, two classifications have been done: the first one is based on the interactivity allowed by the media to the user; the second one depends on the reception system used by the media in order to send the service.

Lately, we have noticed tremendous changes concerning communication and information exchange in the Web. We have seen Web turning into Web2.0 and more and more social software services like weblogs, wikis, RSS readers and social bookmarkers emerging in order to facilitate communication, by offering new ways for the distribution of information and knowledge and by allowing users to submit their feedback easily and directly. Weblogs have played a significant role to this new era since they offer an easy, prompt and direct way of communication. The simplicity of creating, administering and using a weblog has placed it among the most popular means of communication in the Web. At the same time Libraries are advancing in step with these developments and they turn from Library to Library2.0. and they use weblogs for their daily information and communication among other libraries and librarians. In this paper the author will make a brief introduction to Web2.0 and Library2.0 and she will explain what a weblog is, how somebody can create one, issues that have to do with administration and organisation, relevant software, use of auxiliary widgets and services and how prompt information can take place through RSS feeds. A presentation with examples will be done in order to show how libraries and librarians can use weblogs individually or in groups to enhance scientific communication.

Content curation and open sources of information are two aspects that can be joined to serve quality journalism. Open sources can be one of journalists’ main instruments in conjunction with other types of sources, and they have their own advantages and characteristics. For its part, content curation provides a strategic framework for the use of these open sources in an especially efficient manner.

The following elements are indicated for each parameter: definition, explanation, procedure and examples. The “procedure” element is defended as a methodology to assess the use of content curation on a journalistic website, which includes a list of indicators, and an analysis question and a score for each of them. The “examples” element presents a set of good practices for content curation in digital media.

The concept of creative industries is now well established in both academic and policy discourse. Historically, it had its roots in the policies of Tony Blair’s “New Labour” governments of the United Kingdom during the late 1990s and 2000s. Its creative industries policies were in turn influenced by culture-led urban renewal strategies in major UK cities such as Manchester, Sheffield and Glasgow, as well as by economically oriented cultural policy strategies such as the Australian government’s 1994 Creative Nation program. In the 2000s, there was a significant process of international diffusion of creative industries policies. Tafel-Viia et. al. identified such policies being developed in 11 leading European cities: Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Birmingham, Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius and Warsaw. There have also been important regional and national policies developed in European nations including the UK, the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Russia, and creative industries have been at the forefront of the European Union’s Creative Europe strategies as part of the Horizon 2020 program.

Citizen journalism in digital editions, a limited bet. In recent years the digital media have opened their doors to so-called citizen journalism. Nevertheless, far from some declarations that present the reader as another journalist, the reality is very different. This article compares the sections of informative participation in four digital editions of printed newspapers from 2009 to nowadays in order to analyze two aspects: whether the media frankly trust the readers, beyond inviting them to play at being journalists; and what is the reader’s response.

Some authors question the existence of public television companies in the new environment of digitalization, Internet proliferation, growing competition and audience segmentation. However, others believe they should act as a driving force in the process of convergence and even that the new media present an opportunity to redefine the public broadcasting service (PBS) remit. The current challenge for the public media companies is to deliver their content through the maximum number of devices, not only via television sets but also broadband and mobile devices. Over the years, the BBC has adapted to new market situations and has implemented solutions that have been adopted by other public and private broadcasters around the world. The objective of this article is to show how the BBC has taken up the leadership of transforming public TV companies into online services in order to maintain market share; and how it has influenced Spain’s public TV broadcaster, RTVE. The methodology is based on internal and external documents of both corporations, and the findings are complemented by interviews with online service managers at RTVE. We conclude that these public companies have adapted their activities to the new technologies and have developed interactive services to reinforce their public service mission

Wikipedia: an open encyclopaedia, free and written cooperatively An encyclopaedic collection in itself, public library has always been a place for the consultation of encyclopaedias. Wikipedia is an open encyclopaedia, free and written cooperatively. At first glance, such a project appears truly utopist, even criticisable. Nevertheless, both international and multilingual, it works well and is enjoying rapid growth. It uses Wiki technology and is published under a free documentary licence. Within several years, even months, Wikipedia could have an important place in libraries. French speaking librarians could improve it by contributing to it.

The dissemination of scientific information and its presence in the main media converge on the Internet. Both processes contribute to create the online reputation of an academic institution. This study discusses whether the research competence of a university has an impact on its digital media presence. To answer this question, we measured and compared the research output from nine universities together with news about them retrieved from Google News. The results show that the greater the scientific capacity, the greater the media visibility, therefore resulting in greater impact and standing.
