Abstract

This article examines the effects of endurance exercise training on concentrations of heat shock proteins in the striated muscle of aging rats. Findings indicate that endurance training results in similar increases in heat shock protein levels in young and old rats.

Abstract

This article examines the effects of heat shock proteins and endurance exercise on the prevention of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. Findings indicate that endurance training increases levels of specific heat shock proteins that protect cells in the heart from apoptosis, necrosis, and oxidative injury during acute stress.

Abstract

Research was conducted to examine endurance training effects on the rat costal diaphragm. Results show that exercise reduces rate of diaphragm fatigue in vitro but does not change the contractile property or maximal shortening velocity of the diaphragm muscle.
