• Laser beam attenuation characteristics were analyzed using various parameters such as of doping concentrations, polymer film thickness, solvent types, laser wavelength, laser incident angle, aperture diameter of the photo detector and sample position. • The He-Ne laser at 632.8 nm, and green laser at 532 nm are commonly used visible laser systems, for laser attenuation characteristics. • Threshold value of optical limiting and absorption coefficient influenced by laser wavelength differ in the visible range. Laser power attenuation characteristics have recently gained significant attention due to its wide applications in various fields. Laser attenuation for CW low power He-Ne lasers at 632.8 nm and green lasers at 532 nm has been widely investigated in the literature, examining the influence of various factors. The effect of these factors (doping concentrations, polymer films thickness, laser wavelength, laser incident angle, etc) on laser attenuation characteristics were presented and analyzed. It is evident that the above-mentioned factors significantly enhance the power attenuation and optical limiting effect. Increasing doping concentrations of fillers in polymer material as well as the film thickness significantly increases the laser power attenuation. In addition, the laser wavelength influences both the optical limiting threshold value and the absorption coefficient of the samples, a lower limiting threshold observed with smaller aperture diameter of the photodetector. Laser power attenuation and optical limiting can be applied in a wide range of applications such as laser safety, protecting optical devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
