Nowadays environmental issues have been of great concern to the world, among which the problem of global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions is particularly prominent. All countries in the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement have committed to control greenhouse gas emissions, and China, as the largest carbon emitter, has assumed a heavier burden. China has been striving to develop low-carbon technologies such as hydrogen, nuclear, wind, and solar energy, but the most attention should be paid to CCUS, which many scholars have high expectations that CCUS can help China reduce emissions to some extent. Therefore, this paper presents a prediction that CCUS can reduce 3.8% of carbon emissions for China in 2040 when CCUS emission reductions increase at a rate of 30%. In this study, an integrated approach to applying the high-gravity technology for control of multiple air pollutants, such as SO x , NO x , and particulate matter as well as greenhouse gases, such as CO 2 , in a flue gas was proposed and reviewed. The high-gravity technology using a rotating packed bed has been recognized as a process intensification device with excellent micro-mixing efficiency and mass transfer rate between the gas and liquid phases. Implementation of the high-gravity technology can significantly improve the efficiency of end-of-pipe air pollution control. This paper first provides the features, principles and applications of the high-gravity technology. Then, the mechanism and performance of SO x , NO x , particulate matter and CO 2 removal by the high-gravity process are discussed. Finally, the use of high-gravity technology for removing particulate and gaseous pollutant emissions to achieve the goal of integrated air pollution control in industry is illustrated. To move ahead with the industrial upgrades needed for compliance with the future air quality standards, the high-gravity technology should be considered as a technically and economically feasible alternative to simultaneously reduce more than one type of air pollutants, including NO x , SO x , particulate matter and CO 2 in a timely manner.
