The transport and retention data in environmental media are indispensable for the hazard evaluations of graphene materials. Due to the complexity of soil, the transport of graphene is hard to quantify without isotope labeling. Herein, we developed 2D Raman mapping as a label-free technique to quantify graphene oxide (GO) in soil. After pre-treatment by hydrazine hydrate to quench its fluorescence, the quantification of GO in soil was achieved in the range of 0.1-1000 mg/L by measuring the average G-band intensity. In column transport experiment, the transport and retention of GO in soil depended on the solution chemistry. Lower pH and higher ionic strength hindered the transport of GO. In particular, Ca 2+ showed the most obvious retardation on the transport of GO. GO enriched in the surficial soil layer by several folds of the initial concentrations, and higher GO concentration led to more surficial enrichment. The sowing manner of seeds affected the soil enrichment of GO, too. The surficial enrichment of GO reduced its direct contact with seedling roots, resulting in the alleviation of GO toxicity. Nanomaterials present in wastewater can pose a significant threat to aerobic granular sludge (AGS) systems. Herein, we found that compared to graphene nanomaterials (G-NMs), the long-term presence (95 days) of graphene oxide nanomaterials (GO-NMs) resulted in an increased proliferation of filamentous bacteria, poorer sedimentation performance (SVI 30 of 74.1 mL/g) and smaller average particle size (1224.4 µm) of the AGS. In particular, the GO-NMs posed a more significant inhibitory effect to the total nitrogen removal efficiency of AGS (decreased by 14.3 %), especially for the denitrification process. The substantial accumulation of GO-NMs within the sludge matrix resulted in a higher level of reactive oxygen species in AGS compared to G-NMs, thereby inducing lactate dehydrogenase release, and enhancing superoxide oxidase and catalase activities. Such excessive oxidative stress could potentially result in a significant reduction in the activity of nitrogen metabolism enzymes (e.g., nitrate reductase and nitrite reductase) and the expression of key functional genes (e.g., nirS and nirK). Altogether, compared to G-NMs, prolonged exposure to GO-NMs had a more significant chronic toxicity effect on AGS systems. Graphene oxide (GO), beyond its specialized industrial applications, is rapidly gaining prominence as a nanomaterial for modern agriculture. However, its specific effects on seed priming for salinity tolerance and yield formation in crops remain elusive. Under both pot-grown and field-grown conditions, this study combined physiological indices with transcriptomics and metabolomics to investigate how GO affects seed germination, seedling salinity tolerance, and peanut pod yield. Peanut seeds were firstly treated with 400 mg L⁻¹ GO (termed GO priming). At seed germination stage, GO-primed seeds exhibited higher germination rate and percentage of seeds with radicals breaking through the testa. Meanwhile, omics analyses revealed significant enrichment in pathways associated with carbon and nitrogen metabolisms in GO-primed seeds. At seedling stage, GO priming contributed to strengthening plant growth, enhancing photosynthesis, maintaining the integrity of plasma membrane, and promoting the nutrient accumulation in peanut seedlings under 200 mM NaCl stress. Moreover, GO priming increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes, along with reduced the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in response to salinity stress. Furthermore, the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially accumulated metabolites (DAMs) of peanut seedlings under GO priming were mainly related to photosynthesis, phytohormones, antioxidant system, and carbon and nitrogen metabolisms in response to soil salinity. At maturity, GO priming showed an average increase in peanut pod yield by 12.91% compared with non-primed control. The separation of enantiomers using chiral membranes has garnered much research interest. In this study, the enantioseparation of amino acids using chiral membranes, namely graphene oxide-ethylenediamine-maltodextrin (GO-EDA-MD) and GO-EDA-hydroxypropyl-MD (GO-EDA-HP-MD), was evaluated. HP-MD and MD were investigated as chiral selectors due to their inherent chirality. Various characterization techniques, including atomic force microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, field emission scanning electron microscopy, water contact angle analysis, tensile properties, and thermal gravimetric analysis were employed to analyze the membrane structures. The evaluation of enantioseparation performance was conducted by employing tryptophan, phenylalanine, and tyrosine enantiomers. Optimal conditions for enantiomer separation were achived using a GO-EDA-HP-MD chiral composite (1.75 wt%), a feed concentration of 10 mg/L for each enantiomer, a separation time of 15 min, and a membrane effective surface area of 1.0 cm 2 . Also, the bovine serum albumin rejection was 90.0 %, and the water flux reached 37.1 L m -2 h -1 . The highest enantiomeric excess (ee.%) values were 46.33 %, 76.97 %, and 73.04 % for tryptophan, phenylalanine, and tyrosine, respectively. The impact of voltage on ee.% and substance flux was also explored. The use of pesticides has increased with the development of agriculture. However, due to the trace content and the matrix's inherent complexity in environmental water, development of rapid and sensitive detection method present significant challenges in the analysis of pesticide residues. The study synthesized magnetic graphene oxide (MGO) by combining superparamagnetic nanoparticles with the easy modification of graphene oxide (GO). Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) were then modified to have a large specific surface area. Finally, magnetic graphene oxide-based covalent organic frameworks, namely MGO-COFs, were obtained with a spherical structure and used as magnetic solid-phase extraction materials, which was successfully used to determine the seven pesticide residues in environmental samples in conjunction with high performance liquid chromatography. The method has a wide linear range for the tested pesticides, with satisfactory correlation coefficients (R ≥ 0.099) and low detection limits (0.3-1.21 μg L -1 ). The correlation coefficients for all seven pesticides were high (R 2 ≥ 0.9996). Although graphene oxide (GO) has extensive recognized application prospects in slow-release fertilizer, plant pest control, and plant growth regulation, the incorporation of GO into nano herbicides is still in its early stages of development. This study selected a pair of sweet corn sister lines, nicosulfuron (NIF)-resistant HK301 and NIF-sensitive HK320, and sprayed them both with 80 mg kg -1 of GO-NIF, with clean water as a control, to study the effect of GO-NIF on sweet corn seedling growth, photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence, and antioxidant system enzyme activity. Compared to spraying water and GO alone, spraying GO-NIF was able to effectively reduce the toxic effect of NIF on sweet corn seedlings. Compared with NIF treatment, 10 days after of spraying GO-NIF, the net photosynthetic rate (A), stomatal conductance (G s ), transpiration rate (E), photosystem II photochemical maximum quantum yield (F v /F m ), photochemical quenching coefficient (q P ), and photosynthetic electron transfer rate (ETR) of GO-NIF treatment were significantly increased by 328.31%, 132.44%, 574.39%, 73.53%, 152.41%, and 140.72%, respectively, compared to HK320. Compared to the imbalance of redox reactions continuously induced by NIF in HK320, GO-NIF effectively alleviated the observed oxidative pressure. Furthermore, compared to NIF treatment alone, GO-NIF treatment effectively increased the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), guaiacol peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) in both lines, indicating GO induced resistance to the damage caused by NIF to sweet corn seedlings. Background: The high infectivity of coronaviruses has led to increased interest in developing new strategies to prevent virus spread. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and graphene oxide (GO) have attracted much attention in the antiviral field. We investigated the potential antiviral activity of GO and AgNPs combined in the nanocomposite GO-Ag against murine betacoronavirus MHV using an in vitro model., Methods: GO, AgNPs, and GO-Ag characterization (size distribution, zeta potential, TEM visualization, FT-IR, and EDX analysis) and XTT assay were performed. The antiviral activity of GO-Ag nanocomposites was evaluated by RT-qPCR and TCID 50 assays. The results were compared with free AgNPs and pure GO. Cell growth and morphology of MHV-infected hepatocytes treated with GO-Ag composites were analyzed by JuLI™Br. Immunofluorescence was used to visualize the cell receptor used by MHV. Ultrastructural SEM analysis was performed to examine cell morphology after MHV infection and GO-Ag composite treatment., Results: A significant reduction in virus titer was observed for all nanocomposites tested, ranging from 3.2 to 7.3 log10 TCID 50 . The highest titer reduction was obtained for GO 5 µg/mL - Ag 25 µg/mL in the post-treatment method. These results were confirmed by RT-qPCR analysis. The results indicate that GO-Ag nanocomposites exhibited better antiviral activity compared to AgNPs and GO. Moreover, the attachment of AgNPs to the GO flake platform reduced their cytotoxicity. In addition, the GO-Ag composite modulates the distribution of the Ceacam1 cell receptor and can modulate cell morphology., Conclusion: Graphene oxide sheets act as a stabilizing agent, inhibiting the accumulation of AgNPs and reducing their cellular toxicity. The GO-Ag composite can physically bind and inhibit murine betacoronavirus from entering cells. Furthermore, the constant presence of GO-Ag can inhibit MHV replication and significantly limit its extracellular release. Introduction: The increase in infectious diseases mediated by oral bacteria has been one of the most potent threats to human health, specifically to the elderly. Researchers seek to incorporate antimicrobial nanomaterials into PMMA to control the colonization of microorganisms and reduce deadly diseases., Objective: To conduct a systematic review to answer the question: "Does graphene oxide incorporated into polymethylmethacrylate influence its antimicrobial activity?", Methods: The electronic search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases, and articles published until October 2021 were selected. The search terms were: ("acrylic resin" OR PMMA) AND (graphene OR "oxide graphene") AND (antimicrobial OR antibacterial OR "anti-infective agent"). The risk of bias analysis of the articles was performed using the quasi-experimental study assessment tool adapted from the JBI., Results: Two hundred and fifty-nine articles were found in the databases. After removing the duplicates, 245 were analyzed by title and abstract. Nano-biocomposite hydrogel samples were produced using graphene oxide (GO) and agar and applied as adsorbents of organic components in water. The hydrogels were prepared by varying the wt% of Agar and GO. The samples were characterized, and batch adsorption experiments evaluated the effect of initial pH, equilibrium isotherms, and kinetics for the adsorption of the anionic dye Acid Orange 7 (AO) and the cationic dyes Nile Blue A (NB) and methylene blue (MB) in an aqueous medium. Overall, both hydrogel samples exhibited satisfactory results for removing NB and MB; however, there was no effective removal for the anionic dye AO. Adsorption equilibrium isotherms were obtained, and Freundlich, Langmuir, and Sips models were fitted to the experimental equilibrium data; moreover, kinetic data were adjusted to driving force models and particle mass balance. The maximum experimental adsorption capacities, 141.48 mg·g -1 (MB) and 284.69 mg·g -1 (NB), were obtained, on a dry basis, for the sample produced with 70 wt% of agar and 30 wt% of GO. Both hydrogels exhibited remarkable regenerative potential for NB and MB, with the adsorption capacity remaining constant, even after five adsorption/desorption cycles., (© 2023. Metal hexacyanoferrates (MHCF) are a class of inorganic adsorbents used for wastewater management due to the presence of interstitial sites for capturing heavy metal ions. In present work, we are reporting the synthesis of magnetic nanocomposite of Fe 3 O 4 /graphene oxide/potassium copper hexacyanoferrate via wet chemical and coprecipitation approach. Potassium copper hexacyanoferrate (KCuHCF) and Graphene oxide (GO) both are marvelous adsorbents but their nano-size becomes a major obstacle in their separation process after the adsorption of the radionuclides. Thus, our synthesized nanocomposite Fe 3 O 4 /GO/KCuHCF enhances the recovery of KCuHCF even after radioactive Cs + adsorption with adsorption capacity of 18 mg g -1 coinciding well with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm mechanism. The synthesized adsorbent is characterized thoroughly using UV-Visible spectroscopy, FT-IR, TGA, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, TEM-EDAX and XRD. This synthesized nanocomposite is used for the batch extraction of radioactive Cs + from low level radioactive waste (LLW). Graphene oxide (GO) exhibits excellent mechanical strength and modulus. However, its effectiveness in mechanically reinforcing polymer materials is limited due to issues with interfacial bonding and dispersion arising from differences in the physicochemical properties between GO and polymers. Surface modification using coupling agents is an effective method to improve the bonding problem between polymer and GO, but there may be biocompatibility issues when used in the biomedical field. In this study, the biomolecule L-lysine, was applied to improve the interfacial bonding and dispersion of GO in polylactic acid (PLA) without compromising biocompatibility. The PLA/L-lysine-modified GO (PLA/L-GO) bone scaffold with triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structure was prepared using fused deposition modeling (FDM). The FTIR results revealed successful grafting of L-lysine onto GO through the reaction between their -COOH and -NH 2 groups. The macroscopic and microscopic morphology characterization indicated that the PLA/L-GO scaffolds exhibited an characteristics of dynamic diameter changes, with good interlayer bonding. It was noteworthy that the L-lysine modification promoted the dispersion of GO and the interfacial bonding with the PLA matrix, as characterized by SEM. As a result, the PLA/0.1L-GO scaffold exhibited higher compressive strength (13.2 MPa) and elastic modulus (226.8 MPa) than PLA/0.1GO. Moreover, PLA/L-GO composite scaffold exhibited superior biomineralization capacity and cell response compared to PLA/GO. In summary, L-lysine not only improved the dispersion and interfacial bonding of GO with PLA, enhancing the mechanical properties, but also improved the biological properties. Fluorosis disease can be prevented by the defluoridated water. Hence, the present work focused on the fabrication of hybrid materials using graphene oxide (GO) and Ce-based metal organic frameworks namely cerium fumarate (Ce-Fu) which gives GO/Ce-Fu for defluoridation of water. Further, the powdered GO/Ce-Fu was dispersed with alginate (Alg) and chitosan (CS) biopolymeric matrixes to give GO/Ce-Fu/Alg-CS biopolymeric hybrid beads for defluoridation investigations. The developed GO/Ce-Fu and GO/Ce-Fu/Alg-CS beads have defluoridation capacities (DCs) of 4.410 and 4.753 mg/g within 30 min. The fabricated GO/Ce-Fu and GO/Ce-Fu/Alg-CS beads were analyzed by XRD, FTIR, TGA, BET, SEM and EDAX studies. The performance of fluoride adsorption influencing parameters such as dosage, contact time, solution pH, interfering anions and temperature studies were optimized with batch scale. Thermodynamic, adsorption isotherms and kinetic studies were carried out using hybrid materials to find the nature and order of fluoride adsorption. The fluoride adsorption mechanism of GO/Ce-Fu and GO/Ce-Fu/Alg-CS beads was investigated. The performance of recyclability of the hybrid materials was examined. The accumulation of excess Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is strongly associated with the occurrence of heart failure, coronary artery disease and hypercholesterolaemia, and is a major factor in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Concerns about the ways to decrease LDL level have continuously arisen. In this study, an ionic stimulation-responsive composite (i.e., GO@Apt@SA) is prepared with modification of graphene oxide (GO) utilising LDL-aptamer (Apt) and sodium alginate (SA). The ion-responsive behaviour of GO@Apt@SA synergistically interacts with the specific recognition property of the aptamer, enabling adsorption of LDL with higher capacity and specificity. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the maximum adsorption capacity of GO@Apt@SA for LDL is 730.6 μg mg -1 . Interestingly, the aptamer complementary chain could trigger the release of LDL with favourable elution efficiency, which competitively binds with LDL-specific aptamer to trigger LDL release. An imbalanced system of angiogenesis-osteoblasts-osteoclasts is regarded as the main factor in bone remodeling dysfunction diseases or osseointegration loss. Osteoclast precursors are the key cells that accelerate bone-specific angiogenesis and maintain normal osteoblast and osteoclast function. Graphene oxide is an effective scaffold surface modification agent with broad application prospects in bone tissue engineering. However, the effect of graphene oxide on the interaction between osteoclasts and angiogenesis has not yet been elucidated. In this study, a rat calvarial defect model was established and treated with an electrochemically derived nanographene oxide (ENGO) hydrogel. Higher angiogenesis and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) B in preosteoclasts were observed in the ENGO group compared with that in the control group. Moreover, in vitro experiments demonstrate the efficacy of ENGO in substantially reducing the expression of the receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast-associated markers and inhibiting bone resorption activity. Additionally, ENGO enhances the secretion of the osteoclast-derived coupling factor PDGF-BB and promotes angiogenesis. Our investigation revealed the crucial role of isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) in the ENGO-mediated regulation of osteoclast differentiation and PDGF-BB secretion. The decreased expression of IDH1 reduces the level of histone lysine demethylase 7A (KDM7A) and subsequently increases the H3K9me2 level in the cathepsin K promoter region. In summary, we found that ENGO promotes angiogenesis by inhibiting the maturity of RANKL-induced osteoclasts and enhancing PDGF-BB secretion. These results indicate that ENGO holds promise for the application in fostering osteoclast-endothelial cell crosstalk, providing an effective strategy for treating bone resorption and osteoclast-related bone loss diseases.

This study reports on the modification of bacterial cellulose (BC) membranes produced by static fermentation of Komagataeibacter xylinus bacterial strains with graphene oxide-silver nanoparticles (GO-Ag) to yield skin wound dressings with improved antibacterial properties. The GO-Ag sheets were synthesized through chemical reduction with sodium citrate and were utilized to functionalize the BC membranes (BC/GO-Ag). The BC/GO-Ag composites were characterized to determine their surface charge, morphology, exudate absorption, antimicrobial activity, and cytotoxicity by using fibroblast cells. The antimicrobial activity of the wound dressings was assessed against Staphylococcus aureus , Escherichia coli , and Pseudomonas aeruginosa . The results indicate that the BC/GO-Ag dressings can inhibit ∼70% of E. coli cells. Our findings also revealed that the porous BC/GO-Ag antimicrobial dressings can efficiently retain 94% of exudate absorption after exposure to simulated body fluid (SBF) for 24 h. These results suggest that the dressings could absorb excess exudate from the wound during clinical application, maintaining adequate moisture, and promoting the proliferation of epithelial cells. The BC/GO-Ag hybrid materials exhibited excellent mechanical flexibility and low cytotoxicity to fibroblast cells, making excellent wound dressings able to control bacterial infectious processes and promote the fast healing of dermal lesions.

Graphene oxide (GO, a popular 2D nanomaterial) poses great potential in water treatment arousing considerable attention regarding its fate and risk in aquatic environments. Extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) exist widely in water and play critical roles in biogeochemical processes. However, the influences of complex EPS fractions on the fate and risk of GO remain unknown in water. This study integrates fluorescence excitation-emission matrix-parallel factor, two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy, and biolayer interferometry studies on the binding characteristics and affinity between EPS fractions and GO. The results revealed the preferential binding of fluorescent aromatic protein-like component, fulvic-like component, and non-fluorescent polysaccharide in soluble EPS (S-EPS) and bound EPS (B-EPS) on GO via π-π stacking and electrostatic interaction that contributed to a higher adsorption capacity of S-EPS on GO and weaker affinity than of B-EPS. Moreover, the EPS fractions drive the morphological and structural alterations, and the attenuated colloid stability of GO in water. Notably, GO-EPS induced stronger phytotoxicity (e.g., photosynthetic damage, and membrane lipid remodeling) compared to pristine GO. Metabolic and functional lipid analysis further elucidated the regulation of amino acid, carbohydrate, and lipid metabolism contributed to the persistent phytotoxicity. Integrating pH sensor with controlled antibiotic release is fabricated on silk to create a theranostic wound dressing. Alginate (ALG) hydrogel and graphene oxide (GO) loaded with levofloxacin (LVX) and a pH indicator are applied to fabricate a pH-responsive theranostic wound dressing. The modified silk color changes from yellow to green in response to elevated skin pH, indicating the skin infection. The semi-quantitative analysis was conducted using ImageJ, revealing significant color changes across the wide range. At elevated pH levels, the ionization of the COOH bonds within ALG induces repulsion among the COO - groups, thereby accelerating the release of the incorporated drug compared to release under lower pH. At an infected pH of 8, ALG hydrogel triggers LVX releasing up to 135.86 ± 0.3 µg, while at a normal pH of 7, theranostic silk releases 123.13 ± 0.26 µg. Incorporating GO onto silk fibers enhances LVX loading and sustains LVX release. Furthermore, these modified silks possess antimicrobial abilities without causing irritation or allergies on the human skin. This study reports a novel, eco-friendly; fast and cost-effective microwave method for synthesizing carboxymethylated graphene oxide (CMGO) from sugarcane residues. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed successful CMGO synthesis through the presence of characteristic peaks at 1567.93 and 1639.29 cm -1 (COONa vibrations) and increased CH 2 intensity compared to unmodified graphene oxide (GO). Furthermore, CMGO derived from sugarcane residues demonstrated potential in mitigating the side effects of toxic materials like carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ). Treatment with CMGO partially reduced elevated levels of liver enzymes (ALT and AST) and nitrogenous waste products (urea and uric acid) in CCl 4 -induced liver damage models, suggesting an improvement in liver function despite ongoing cellular damage.This work paves the way for a sustainable and economical approach to produce functionalized graphene oxide with promising biomedical applications in alleviating toxin-induced liver injury., (© 2024. A ZnO-Graphene oxide nanocomposite (Z-G) was prepared in order to exploit the biomedical features of each component in a single anticancer material. This was achieved by means of an environmentally friendly synthesis, taking place at a low temperature and without the involvement of toxic reagents. The product was physicochemically characterized. The ZnO-to-GO ratio was determined through thermogravimetric analysis, while scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were used to provide insight into the morphology of the nanocomposite. Using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, it was possible to confirm that the graphene flakes were homogeneously coated with ZnO. The crystallite size of the ZnO nanoparticles in the new composite was determined using X-ray powder diffraction. The capacity of Z-G to enhance the toxicity of the anticancer drug Paclitaxel towards breast cancer cells was assessed via a cell viability study, showing the remarkable anticancer activity of the obtained system. Such results support the potential use of Z-G as an anticancer agent in combination with a common chemotherapeutic like Paclitaxel, leading to new chemotherapeutic formulations.

Introduction: Osseointegration stands as a pivotal concept within the realm of dental implants, signifying the intricate process through which a dental implant integrates with the adjoining bone tissue. Graphene oxide (GO) has been shown to promote osseointegration, the process by which the implant fuses with the surrounding bone. The objective of this study was to assess the osseointegrative and antimicrobial properties of GO nano coated dental implants., Methods: A systematic search was conducted using electronic databases (e.g., PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science) to identify relevant studies published. Inclusion criteria encompassed studies that evaluated the effects of GO nano coating on osseointegrative and antimicrobial characteristics of dental implants. Studies not written in English and published before 2012 were excluded., Results: The initial search yielded a total of 127 potential studies, of which six met the inclusion criteria and five were included in the review. These studies provided data on GO nano coated dental implants and their osseointegrative and antimicrobial properties. All the included studies showed moderate risk of bias. None of the studies provided information related to sample size calculation or sampling technique., Discussion: The findings from the included studies demonstrated that GO nano coating had a positive impact on osseointegrative properties of dental implants. Enhanced bone-implant contact and increased bone density were observed in animals and humans receiving GO nano coated implants. Furthermore, the antimicrobial properties of GO nano coating were found to inhibit bacterial colonization and biofilm formation on the implant surface, reducing the risk of implant-associated infections., Conclusion: The findings indicate that GO nano coating holds promise in enhancing the success rate and longevity of dental implants. Objectives: Our objective was to explore the safety and efficacy of a graphene oxide-loaded rapamycin-coated self-expandable metallic airway stent (GO@RAPA-SEMS) in a rabbit model., Methods: The dip coating method was used to develop a GO@RAPA-SEMS and a poly(lactic-co-glycolic)-acid loaded rapamycin-coated self-expandable metallic airway stent (PLGA@RAPA-SEMS). The surface structure was evaluated using a scanning electronic microscope. The in vitro drug-release profiles of the 2 stents were explored and compared. In the animal study, a total of 45 rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups and underwent 3 kinds of stent placements. Computed tomography was performed to evaluate the degree of stenosis at 1, 2 and 3 months after the stent operation. Five rabbits in each group were sacrificed after the computed tomography scan. The stented trachea and blood were collected for further pathological analysis and laboratory testing., Results: The in vitro drug-release study revealed that GO@RAPA-SEMS exhibited a sudden release on the first day and maintained a certain release rate on the 14th day. The PLGA@RAPA-SEMS exhibited a longer sustained release time. All 45 rabbits underwent successful stent placement. Pathological results indicated that the granulation tissue thickness in the GO@RAPA-SEMS group was less than that in the PLGA@RAPA-SEMS group. The TUNEL and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α staining results support the fact that the granulation inhibition effect in the GO@RAPA-SEMS group was greater than that in the PLGA@RAPA-SEMS group., Conclusions: GO@RAPA-SEMS effectively inhibited stent-related granulation tissue hyperplasia., (© The Author(s) 2024. In this study, a targeted nanocarrier was developed by functionalizing graphene oxide with polyethyleneimine and folic acid, intended for loading oridonin. The nanocarrier was successfully synthesized and characterized using an ultraviolet spectrum, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The nanocarrier demonstrated a remarkable oridonin loading capacity, reaching 424.8 μg/mg, as determined by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography. In vitro drug release experiments exhibited a pH-dependent release profile, with a higher cumulative release in an acidic environment. The release mechanism followed the Ritger-Peppas equation model. Cytotoxicity assays indicated minimal toxicity of the nanocarrier. Enhanced cellular uptake by MCF7 cells was observed for carriers functionalized with folate and polyethyleneimine. Due to the rising human population and industrialization, harmful chemical compounds such as 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and various dyes are increasingly released into the environment, resulting in water pollution. It is essential to convert these harmful chemicals into harmless compounds to mitigate this pollution. This research focuses on synthesizing a novel heterogeneous catalyst using modified canvas fabric (CF) decorated with silver metal nanoparticles on graphene oxide nanosheets (Ag-GO/CF). The process involves coating the fabrics (CF) with graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets through sonication. Subsequently, silver nanoparticles are deposited in situ and reduced on the GO surface, resulting in the formation of the Ag-GO/CF composite. Various physicochemical characterizations were conducted to examine the interfacial interactions between CF, GO, and Ag nanoparticles. The catalytic activity of the nanocomposite was assessed by hydrogenating 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) in the presence of sodium borohydride (NaBH 4 ). The results showed that the 10%Ag-5%GO/CF with a surface of 6 cm 2 (3 × 2 cm) exhibited the highest catalytic activity, achieving a reduction efficiency of over 96% in 5 min. The 4-NP reduction reaction rate was well-fitted with a pseudo-first-order kinetics model with an apparent reaction rate constant (K app ) of 0.676 min -1 . Furthermore, the Ag-GO/CF composite demonstrated remarkable stability over successive cycles, with no noticeable decrease in its catalytic activity, suggesting its promising application for long-term chemical catalytic processes. This synthesized composite can be easily added to and removed from the reaction solution while maintaining high catalytic performance in the reduction of 4-NP, and it could be beneficial in avoiding problems related to powder separation., (© 2024. Graphene oxide (GO) and copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) were incorporated to modulate and enhance the fluorescence properties of pegylated graphite phase carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 -PEG). Combined with the specific recognition capability of a molecular imprinted polymer (MIP), a highly sensitive and selective fluorescent molecular imprinted probe for dopamine detection was developed. The fluorescent g-C 3 N 4 -PEG was synthesized from melamine and modified with GO and Cu NPs to obtain GO/g-C 3 N 4 -PEG@Cu NPs. Subsequently, MIP was prepared on the surface of GO/g-C 3 N 4 -PEG@Cu NPs using dopamine as the template molecule. Upon elution of the template molecule, a dopamine-specific GO/g-C 3 N 4 -PEG@Cu NPs/MIP fluorescence probe was obtained. The fluorescence intensity of the probe was quenched through the adsorption of different concentrations of dopamine by the MIP, thus establishing a novel method for the detection of dopamine. The linear range of dopamine detection was from 5 × 10 -11 to 6 × 10 -8  mol L -1 , with a detection limit of 2.32 × 10 -11  mol L -1 . The sensor was utilised for the detection of dopamine in bananas, achieving a spiked recovery rate between 90.3% and 101.3%. Breathing is an important physiological activity of human body, which not only reflects the state of human movement, but also is one of the important health indicators. Breathing can change the concentration of water molecules, so monitoring humidity has gradually become a hot topic in modern research. In this study, a humidity sensing composite film with high sensitivity and short response time was made by using the mixture of graphene oxide (GO) and bacterial cellulose (BC) with simple dry film-forming method. L-ascorbic acid was used as reducing agent to reduce GO and improve the conductivity of GO/BC composite film (BG). The influence of different BC contents and the different reduction degree on the resistance change rate of composite film was investigated in details. The maximum resistance change rate of partially reduced BG humidity sensitive composite film reached up to 94%, and the response and recovery time were 13 s and 47 s respectively. Furthermore, the sensor shows obvious resistance change in noncontact sensing test and different breathing states. Bipolar disorder is commonly treated with lithium carbonate. The concentration of lithium in the blood serum should be closely monitored in patients who require long-term lithium therapy. To date, no colorimetric method of detecting lithium ions has been reported using nanosensors. We have developed a novel chemosensor based on nanozyme (NZ) to address this clinical need. The GO-Ag 2 O NZs were synthesized by a sonochemical method and used as a colorimetric nanosensor to detect lithium ions in human blood serum (Li (I)). To characterize NZs, various techniques were employed, including XRD, FTIR, TEM, FESEM, EDX, Raman spectroscopy, BET, DLS, Zeta potential, and ICP-OES. According to TEM and FESEM images of GO-Ag 2 O, the nanoparticles (NPs) of Ag 2 O are uniformly distributed on the surface of 2D graphene oxide sheets. In addition, silver oxide nanoparticles exhibited a cubic morphology with an average size of 3.5 nm. We have examined the performance of the NZs in an aqueous medium and in human blood serum that contains Li (I). A colorimetric test revealed that NZs synthesized in the presence of ultrasound were more sensitive to Li (I). According to the linearity of the calibration curves' ranges, Li (I) has a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.01 µg/mL. Furthermore, it displayed a linear range between 0 and 12 µg/mL. GO-Ag 2 O NZs showed noticeable color changes from green to orange after exposure to Li (I). An incubation time of two minutes was found to be the most effective for sensing. The management of infected bone defects poses a significant clinical challenge, and current treatment modalities exhibit various limitations. This study focuses on the development of a multifunctional composite scaffold comprising nanohydroxyapatite/polyethyleneglycol diacrylate matrix, silver nanoparticles, graphene oxide (GO), sodium alginate, and M2-type macrophage membrane vesicles (MVs) to enhance the healing of infected bone defects. The composite scaffold demonstrates several key features: first, it releases sufficient quantities of silver ions to effectively eliminate bacteria; second, the controlled release of MVs leads to a notable increase in M2-type macrophages, thereby significantly mitigating the inflammatory response. Additionally, GO acts synergistically with nanohydroxyapatite to enhance osteoinductive activity, thereby fostering bone regeneration. Through meticulous in vitro and in vivo investigations, the composite scaffold exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial effects, robust immunomodulatory capabilities, and enhanced osteoinductive activity. This multifaceted composite scaffold presents a promising approach for the sequential treatment of infected bone defects, addressing the antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, and osteogenic aspects. The discharge of heavy metals into the environment has adversely affected the aquatic ecosystem due to their toxic and non-biodegradable nature. In this research, a three-dimensional graphene oxide/carboxymethylcellulose/aluminium sulphate (GOCAS) aerogel was synthesised and evaluated as a novel means for lead and zinc removal. The GOCAS aerogel was prepared via ice-templating of graphene oxide with carboxymethylcellulose and aluminium sulphate as the crosslinking and functionalisation additives. Characterisation of the aerogel by various analytical techniques confirmed the successful integration of the chemical additives. The hydroxyl and sulphate groups in the aerogel were found to participate in the adsorption of both metals. The equilibrium of lead adsorption was found to correlate well to the Freundlich isotherm, while zinc adsorption fitted closely the Langmuir isotherm. The kinetic adsorption behaviour of both metals was best described as pseudo-second-order. The interactive influences of concentration, temperature, contact time and adsorbent dose on the metal removal were explored by a central composite design, and the optimum adsorption capacity for lead was determined to be 138.7 mg/g at a GOCAS dose of 20 mg, initial concentration of 100 mg/L, temperature of 50 °C and contact time of 45 min. The optimum adsorption capacity for zinc was 52.69 mg/g at 30 mg, 65 mg/L, 45 °C and 40 min. Furthermore, regeneration studies with hydrochloric acid eluant were successfully conducted for up to four adsorption-desorption cycles. (1) Background: Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is a crucial functional receptor of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Although the scale of infections is no longer at pandemic levels, there are still fatal cases. The potential of the virus to infect the skin raises questions about new preventive measures. In the context of anti-SARS-CoV-2 applications, the interactions of antimicrobial nanomaterials (silver, Ag; diamond, D; graphene oxide, GO and their complexes) were examined to assess their ability to affect whether ACE2 binds with the virus. (2) Methods: ACE2 inhibition competitive tests and in vitro treatments of primary human adult epidermal keratinocytes (HEKa) and primary human adult dermal fibroblasts (HDFa) were performed to assess the blocking capacity of nanomaterials/nanocomplexes and their toxicity to cells. (3) Results: The nanocomplexes exerted a synergistic effect compared to individual nanomaterials. HEKa cells were more sensitive than HDFa cells to Ag treatments and high concentrations of GO. Cytotoxic effects were not observed with D. In the complexes, both carbonic nanomaterials had a soothing effect against Ag. (4) Conclusions: The Ag5D10 and Ag5GO10 nanocomplexes seem to be most effective and safe for skin applications to combat SARS-CoV-2 infection by blocking ACE2-S binding. These nanocomplexes should be evaluated through prolonged in vivo exposure. The expected low specificity enables wider applications.

Background: Excessive inflammation is a major cause of implant failure. The surface morphology, hydrophilicity, and loading of biomaterials are major properties modulating anti-inflammatory macrophage activation. This paper investigates the regulatory effects of modifying the surface of Titanium dioxide nanotubes (TNTs) with graphene oxide (GO) on the polarization of mouse monocyte macrophages (RAW264.7)., Methods: TNT was produced by the anodic oxidation of titanium. GO was subsequently electrodeposited on the TNT to obtain a TNT-GO composite. The samples were characterised through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. RAW264.7 cells were separately seeded onto the surface of three groups of samples: pure Ti, TNT, and TNT-GO. Under the condition of lipopolysaccharide stimulation, the influence of the sample surfaces on the gene expression profiles was investigated through RNA sequence analysis. In addition, cell spreading was observed through SEM, cell adhesion and proliferation were analysed using the CCK8 assay, and the expression of inflammation-related factors was investigated by ELISA and cellular immunofluorescence staining. The production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the RAW264.7 cells on the surface of the three groups was detected via immunofluorescence staining., Results: The CCK8 results indicated that the adhesion and proliferation of the RAW264.7 cells were reduced on the TNT and TNT-GO surfaces. ELISA results revealed significant differences in the pro-inflammatory factors tumour necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 secretion among the three groups at 24 h (p < 0.05). The secretion of pro-inflammatory factors significantly reduced and the expression of anti-inflammatory factor IL-10 increased on the TNT and TNT-GO surfaces. The RNA sequencing, ELISA, and cell immunofluorescence staining test results suggested that the inflammatory response of M1 polarization was reduced and the M2 polarization of macrophages was induced on the TNT-GO surface, which may be attributed to the reduction in ROS production., Conclusions: Under lipopolysaccharide stimulation, the inflammatory response of the RAW264.7 cells was reduced and the M2 polarization of macrophages was promoted on the TNT-GO surface, which may be caused by the reduced ROS production. Graphene oxide (GO) is a novel nanomaterial being applied in different fields, but was less used as foliar fertilizer in agriculture. We conducted a pot experiment to analyze the effects of foliar spraying GO from 0 (control), 50 (T 1 ), 100 (T 2 ), 150 (T 3 ) and 200 mg·L -1 (T 4 ) on the morphogenesis and carbon and nitrogen metabolism of kidney bean plants during the initiation of flowering to clarify the physiological effects of foliar spraying GO. The results showed that dry matter accumulation, the content of photosynthetic pigments, soluble sugars of T 1 to T 4 treatments, were significantly increased by 40.7%-43.4%, 10.4%-80.7%, 6.4%-9.1% in kidney bean plants compared with CK treatment, respectively. T 3 treatment performed the best. Meanwhile, the activities of sucrose phosphate synthase, acid converting enzyme and neutral converting enzyme of T 3 and T 4 treatments were increased by 25.7%-45.5%, 17.4%-28.6%, and 14.7%-20.1%, and the activities of nitrate reductase, glutamine synthetase, and glutamate synthetase of T 2 and T 3 treatments were increased by 8.1%-15.2%, 11.5%-25.0%, and 89.7%-93.1%, respectively. In conclusion, foliar spraying of appropriate GO in early flowering stage of kidney bean could increase the content of photosynthetic pigments, improve the level of photosynthetic carbon and nitrogen metabolism, and increase dry matter accumulation. T 3 treatment (150 mg·L -1 ) was the most effective in this study.

Philadelphia-positive (Ph+) leukemia is a type of blood cancer also known as acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), affecting 20-30% of adults diagnosed worldwide and having an engraved prognosis as compared to other types of leukemia. The current treatment regimens mainly rely on tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and bone marrow transplants. To date, several generations of TKIs have been developed due to associated resistance and frequent relapse, with cardiovascular system anomalies being the most devastating complication. Nanotechnology has the potential to address these limitations by the targeted drug delivery and controlled release of TKIs. This study focused on the titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) and graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposite employment to load nilotinib and ponatinib TKIs for therapy of Ph+ leukemia cell line (K562) and Ba/F3 cells engineered to express BCR-ABL oncogene. Meanwhile, after treatment, the oncogene expressing fibroblast cells (Rat-1 P185) were evaluated for their colony formation ability under 3D conditions. To validate the nanocomposite formation, the TiO 2 -GO nanocomposites were characterized by scanning electron microscope, DLS, XRD, FTIR, zeta potential, EDX, and element mapping. The TKI-loaded TiO 2 -GO was not inferior to the free drugs after evaluating their effects by a cell viability assay (XTT), apoptosis induction, and colony formation inhibition. The cell signaling pathways of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), signal transducers and activators of transcription 5 (STAT5), and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (Erk1/2) were also investigated by Western blot. These signaling pathways were significantly downregulated in the TKI-loaded TiO 2 -GO-treated groups. Based on the findings above, we can conclude that TiO 2 -GO exhibited excellent drug delivery potential that can be used for Ph+ leukemia therapy in the future, subject to further investigations.

Bone tissue engineering is a promising alternative to repair wounds caused by cellular or physical accidents that humans face daily. In this sense, the search for new graphene oxide (GO) nanofillers related to their degree of oxidation is born as an alternative bioactive component in forming new scaffolds. In the present study, three different GOs were synthesized with varying degrees of oxidation and studied chemically and tissue-wise. The oxidation degree was determined through infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron (XPS), and Raman spectroscopy (RS). The morphology of the samples was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The oxygen content was deeply described using the deconvolution of RS and XPS techniques. The latter represents the oxidation degree for each of the samples and the formation of new bonds promoted by the graphitization of the material. In the RS, two characteristic bands were observed according to the degree of oxidation and the degree of graphitization of the material represented in bands D and G with different relative intensities, suggesting that the samples have different crystallite sizes. This size was described using the Tuinstra-Koenig model, ranging between 18.7 and 25.1 nm. Finally, the bone neoformation observed in the cranial defects of critical size indicates that the F1 and F2 samples, besides being compatible and resorbable, acted as a bridge for bone healing through regeneration. This promoted healing by restoring bone and tissue structure without triggering a strong immune response.

Objective: Collagen, a widely used natural biomaterial polymer in skin tissue engineering, can be innovatively processed into nanocollagen through cryogenic milling to potentially enhance skin tissue healing. Although various methods for fabricating nanocollagen have been documented, there is no existing study on the fabrication of nanocollagen via cryogenic milling, specifically employing graphene oxide as separators to prevent agglomeration., Methods: In this study, three research groups were created using cryogenic milling: pure nanocollagen (Pure NC), nanocollagen with 0.005% graphene oxide (NC + 0.005% GO), and nanocollagen with 0.01% graphene oxide (NC+0.01% GO). Characterization analyses included transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction (XRD), zeta potential (ZP), and polydispersity index (PDI)., Results: TEM and SEM analysis revealed that nanocollagen groups alone exhibited particle sizes of less than 100 nm. FTIR spectroscopic investigations indicated the presence of amide A, B, and I, II, and III (1800 to 800 cm -1 ) in all nanocollagen study groups, with the characteristic C-O-C stretching suggesting the incorporation of graphene oxide (GO). XRD data exhibited broadening of the major peak as the proportion of GO increased from pure NC to the nanocollagen groups with GO. Zeta potential measurements indicated electrostatic attraction of the samples to negatively charged surfaces, accompanied by sample instability. For many years, the synthesis of graphene oxide (GO) had involved exfoliating graphite flakes, and the methods applied were expensive and time-consuming. Thus, an attempt had been made to create an inventive, less expensive method for the synthesis of GO using unrefined, raw carbon-containing material. Modified Hummer's method was used to prepare GO from banana peel. In addition, the metallic silver nanocomposite was also synthesized along with laoding of drug Rocephin where they interact with each other through electrostatic hydrogen bond interaction. The degree of crystallinity and the crystallite size were through x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and the crystallite size of AgNPs was found to be 40.40 nm. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis shows that the morphology of the GO gradually changes with the addition of AgNPs and Rocephin. A blue shift was seen in the absorbance maxima of the raw carbon upon the conjugation of Rocephin in UV analysis. The Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy were used to determine the chemical composition of the samples. Furthermore, a broad biological screening of the synthesized samples had been carried out following the total reducing power (TRP), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), antibacterial, antifungal, MTT (Cytotoxicity of biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles in MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells) cell viability, brine shrimp lethality, and hemolytic protocols. Significant results were obtained, and the Rocephin-GO-AgNPs had depicted promising activity as compared with their counterparts. Carbon-based nanozymes possessing peroxidase-like activity have attracted significant interest because of their potential to replace native peroxidases in biotechnology. Although various carbon-based nanozymes have been developed, their relatively low catalytic efficiency needs to be overcome to realize their practical utilization. Here, inspired by the elemental uniqueness of Cu and the doped elements N and S, as well as the active site structure of Cu-centered oxidoreductases, we developed a new carbon-based peroxidase-mimicking nanozyme, single-atom Cu-centered N- and S-codoped reduced graphene oxide (Cu-NS-rGO), which preserved many Cu-N 4 and Cu-N 4 S active sites and showed dramatically high peroxidase-like activity without any oxidase-like activity, yielding up to 2500-fold higher catalytic efficiency (k cat /K m ) than that of pristine rGO. The high catalytic activity of Cu-NS-rGO might be attributed to the acceleration of electron transfer from Cu single atom as well as synergistic effects from both Cu-N 4 and Cu-N 4 S active sites, which was theoretically confirmed by Gibbs free energy calculations using density functional theory. The prepared Cu-NS-rGO was then used to construct an electrochemical bioassay system for detecting choline and acetylcholine by coupling with the corresponding oxidases. Using this system, both target molecules were selectively determined with high sensitivity that was sufficient to clinically determine their levels in physiological fluids. Traditional decellularized bioscaffolds possessing intact vascular networks and unique architecture have been extensively studied as conduits for repairing nerve damage. However, they are limited by the absence of electrical conductivity, which is crucial for proper functioning of nervous tissue. This study focuses on investigating decellularized umbilical cord arteries by applying coatings of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) to their inner surfaces. This resulted in a homogeneous GO coating that fully covered the internal lumen of the arteries. The results of electrical measurements demonstrated that the conductivity of the scaffolds could be significantly enhanced by incorporating RGO and GO conductive sheets. At a low frequency of 0.1 Hz, the electrical resistance level of the coated scaffolds decreased by 99.8% with RGO and 98.21% with GO, compared with uncoated scaffolds. Additionally, the mechanical properties of the arteries improved by 24.69% with GO and 32.9% with RGO after the decellularization process. The GO and RGO coatings did not compromise the adhesion of endothelial cells and promoted cell growth. The cytotoxicity tests revealed that cell survival rate increased over time with RGO, while it decreased with GO, indicating the time-dependent effect on the cytotoxicity of GO and RGO. Simple and low-cost biosensing solutions are suitable for point-of-care applications aiming to overcome the gap between scientific concepts and technological production. To compete with sensitivity and selectivity of golden standards, such as liquid chromatography, the functionalization of biosensors is continuously optimized to enhance the signal and improve their performance, often leading to complex chemical assay development. In this research, the efforts are made on optimizing the methodology for electrochemical reduction of graphene oxide to produce thin film-modified gold electrodes. Under the employed specific conditions, 20 cycles of cyclic voltammetry (CV) are shown to be optimal for superior electrical activation of graphene oxide into electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO). This platform is further used to develop a matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2) biosensor, where specific anti-MMP2 aptamers are utilized as a biorecognition element. MMP-2 is a protein which is typically overexpressed in tumor tissues, with important roles in tumor invasion, metastasis as well as in tumor angiogenesis. Based on impedimetric measurements, we were able to detect as low as 3.32 pg mL -1 of MMP-2 in PBS with a dynamic range of 10 pg mL -1 - 10 ng mL -1 . Further experiments with real blood samples revealed a promising potential of the developed sensor for direct measurement of MMP-2 in complex media. High specificity of detection is demonstrated - even to the closely related enzyme MMP-9. This work proposes an innovative approach for the membrane separation of spent and unspent H 2 S scavengers (SUS) derived from the application of MEA-triazine in offshore oil and gas production. Modified nanofiltration membranes were fabricated by incorporating graphene oxide (GO) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) into a thin film composite (TFC) to obtain a thin film nanocomposite (TFN) with enhanced permeability. In addition, various immobilization strategies for GO were investigated. The performance of the membranes and the effect of the GO loading were evaluated in terms of permeability, fouling propensity, and rejection of key components of the SUS, i.e., MEA-triazine (unspent scavenger), dithiazine (spent scavenger), and monoethanolamine, operating on a sample of SUS wastewater obtained from an offshore oil and gas platform. Various characterization techniques, such as contact angle, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TGA, and AFM, were employed to evaluate the structure, composition, and hydrophilicity of the membrane. The results show a remarkable increase in permeability (from 0.22 Lm -2 h -1 bar -1 for the TFC to 5.8 Lm -2 h -1 bar -1 for the TFN membranes), due to the enhanced hydrophilicity from GO incorporation. The strong interfacial interaction between GO and PVA within the TFN membrane results in negligible nanofiller leaching. The incorporation of GO moderately increases the rejection of the unspent scavenger (63%-73%, 62%-79%, 62%-80%, and 68%-76%), while drastically increasing the rejection of the spent scavenger, which is approximately null for the TFC membrane without GO and increases up to 58% in the TFN membrane with GO. The objective of this study was to synthesize and characterize porous Cellulose Acetate (CA) scaffolds using the electrospinning technique and functionalize the surface of the scaffolds obtained through the dip-coating method with a Hydroxyapatite (HA) nanocomposite and varying concentrations of graphene oxide (GO) for application in tissue engineering regeneration techniques. The scaffolds were divided into four distinct groups based on their composition: 1) CA scaffolds; 2) CAHAC scaffolds; 3) CAHAGOC 1.0% scaffolds; 4) CAHAGOC 1.5% scaffolds. Scaffold analyses were conducted using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), and in vitro cell viability assays (WST). For the biological test analysis, Variance (two-way) was used, followed by Tukey's post-test (α = 0.05). The XRD results revealed the predominant presence of CaP phases in the CAHAC, CAHAGOC 1.0%, and CAHAGOC 1.5% groups, emphasizing the presence of HA in the scaffolds. FTIR demonstrated characteristics of cellulose and PO4 bands in the groups containing HA, confirming the presence of CaP in the synthesized materials, as also indicated by XRD. Raman spectroscopy showed the presence of D and G bands, consistent with GO, confirming the successful incorporation of the HAGO nanocomposite into the scaffolds. The micrographs displayed overlapping electrospun fibers, forming the three-dimensional structure in the produced scaffolds. It was possible to observe hydroxyapatite crystals filling some of these pores, creating a suitable structure for cell adhesion, proliferation, and nutrition, as corroborated by the results of in vitro tests. All scaffolds exhibited high cell viability, with significant cell proliferation. Even after 48 h, there was a slight reduction in the number of cells, but a noteworthy increase in cell proliferation was evident in the CAHAGOC 1.5% group after 48 h ( p  < 0.05). In conclusion, it can be affirmed that the produced scaffolds demonstrated physical and biological characteristics and properties capable of promoting cell adhesion and proliferation. Graphene oxide (GO) nanoparticles are attracting growing interest in various fields, not least because of their distinct characteristics and possible uses. However, concerns about their impact on neurological health are emerging, underlining the need for in-depth studies to assess their neurotoxicity. This study examines GO exposure's neurobehavioral and biochemical effects on the central nervous system (CNS). To this end, we administered two doses of GO (2 and 5 mg/kg GO) to mice over a 46-day treatment period. We performed a battery of behavioral tests on the mice, including the open field to assess locomotor activity, the maze plus to measure anxiety, the pole test to assess balance and the rotarod to measure motor coordination. In parallel, we analyzed malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and catalase activity in the brains of mice exposed to GO nanoparticles. In addition, X-ray energy dispersive (EDX) analysis was performed to determine the molecular composition of the brain. Our observations reveal brain alterations in mice exposed to GO by intraperitoneal injection, demonstrating a dose-dependent relationship. We identified behavioral alterations in mice exposed to GO, such as increased anxiety, decreased motor coordination, reduced locomotor activity and balance disorders. These changes were dose-dependent, suggesting a correlation between the amount of GO administered and the extent of behavioral alterations. Graphene and graphene oxide (GO), due to their unique chemical and physical properties, possess biochemical characteristics that can trigger intercellular signals promoting tissue regeneration. Clinical applications of thin GO-derived sheets have inspired the development of various tissue regeneration and repair approaches. In this study, we demonstrate that ultrathin sheets of plasma-functionalized and reduced GO, with the oxygen content ranging from 3.2 % to 22 % and the nitrogen content from 0 % to 8.3 %, retain their essential mechanical and molecular integrity, and exhibit robust potential for regenerating bone tissue and blood vessels across multiple cellular and animal models. Initially, we observed the growth of blood vessels and bone tissue in vitro using these functionalized GO sheets on human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells and umbilical vein endothelial cells. Remarkably, our study indicates a 2.5-fold increase in mineralization and two-fold increase in tubule formation even in media lacking osteogenic and angiogenic supplements. Subsequently, we observed the initiation, conduction, and formation of bone and blood vessels in a rat tibial osteotomy model, evident from a marked 4-fold increase in the volume of low radio-opacity bone tissue and a significant elevation in connectivity density, all without the use of stem cells or growth factors. Finally, we validated these findings in a mouse critical-size calvarial defect model (33 % higher healing rate) and a rat skin lesion model (up to 2.5-fold increase in the number of blood vessels, and 35 % increase in blood vessels diameter). This study elucidates the pro-osteogenic and pro-angiogenic properties of both pristine and plasma-treated GO ultrathin films. This study developed a novel organic-inorganic hybrid composite, shortly as GO-PEG-LDHs, by self-assembly of exfoliated Mg-Al layer double hydroxide (LDHs) on the polyethylene glycol (PEG) grafted graphene oxide (GO) to achieve the selective adsorption of hemoglobin (Hb). The prepared GO-PEG-LDHs has a hierarchical structure with a homogeneous loading of exfoliated LDHs nano-sheets on its surface. The adsorption test reveals that GO-PEG-LDHs exhibits an adsorption efficiency of 95.03% for Hb and 3.45% for bovine serum albumin (BSA). The adsorption of Hb follows the Langmuir model, with an ultrahigh adsorption capacity of 55248.6 mg/g, which is higher than any previously reported materials. Meanwhile, the adsorbed Hb can be efficiently recovered through elution with a 50 mM Tris-HCl buffer, with an elution efficiency of 80.77%. Circular dichroism (CD) spectra indicate no conformational change for Hb during the process of adsorption/desorption. Membrane-based water treatment has emerged as a promising solution to address global water challenges. Graphene oxide (GO) has been successfully employed in membrane filtration processes owing to its reversible properties, large-scale production potential, layer-to-layer stacking, great oxygen-based functional groups, and unique physicochemical characteristics, including the creation of nano-channels. This review evaluates the separation performance of various GO-based membranes, manufactured by coating or interfacial polymerization with different support layers such as polymer, metal, and ceramic, for endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) and pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs). In most studies, the addition of GO significantly improved the removal efficiency, flux, porosity, hydrophilicity, stability, mechanical strength, and antifouling performance compared to pristine membranes. The key mechanisms involved in contaminant removal included size exclusion, electrostatic exclusion, and adsorption. These mechanisms could be ascribed to the physicochemical properties of compounds, such as molecular size and shape, hydrophilicity, and charge state. Therefore, understanding the removal mechanisms based on compound characteristics and appropriately adjusting the operational conditions are crucial keys to membrane separation. Future research directions should explore the characteristics of the combination of GO derivatives with various support layers, by tailoring diverse operating conditions and compounds for effective removal of EDCs and PhACs. Copper ions in wastewater pose a significant threat to human and ecological safety. Therefore, preparing macroscopic adsorbents with reusable and high adsorption performance is paramount. This paper used graphene oxide as the adsorbent and chitosan as the thickener. Additionally, a silane coupling agent was employed to enhance the acid resistance of chitosan, and amino-modification of graphene oxide was performed. Macroscopic adsorbents with high adsorption capacity were fabricated using 3D printing technology. The results show that all five proportions of inks exhibit good printability. Dissolution experiments revealed that all materials maintained structural integrity after 180 days across pH values. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the successful preparation of the materials. Adsorption experiments showed that the best performing material ratio was 8 wt% graphene oxide and 7 wt% chitosan. Adsorption kinetics and isothermal adsorption experiments demonstrated that the adsorption process occurred via monolayer chemisorption. The adsorption process was attributed to strong electrostatic forces, van der Waals forces, and nitrogen/oxygen-containing functional group coordination. Graphene oxide (GO), a carbon-based nanomaterial, presents significant potential across biomedical fields such as bioimaging, drug delivery, biosensors, and phototherapy. This study examines the effects of integrating GO into poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) scaffolds on human immune cell function. Our results demonstrate that high concentrations of GO reduce the viability of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) following stimulation with anti-CD3 antibody. This reduction extends to T lymphocyte activation, evident from the diminished proliferative response to T cell receptor engagement and impaired differentiation into T helper subsets and regulatory T cells. Interestingly, although GO induces a minimal response in resting monocytes, but it significantly affects both the viability and the differentiation potential of monocytes induced to mature toward M1 pro-inflammatory and M2-like immunoregulatory macrophages. This study seeks to address a critical gap by investigating the in vitro immunomodulatory effects of PLGA scaffolds incorporating various concentrations of GO on primary immune cells, specifically PBMCs isolated from healthy donors. Our findings emphasize the need to optimize the GO to PLGA ratios and scaffold design to advance PLGA-GO-based biomedical applications. In the realm of natural polysaccharides, hydrogen bonding is a prevalent feature, yet its role in enhancing photocatalytic antimicrobial properties has been underexplored. In this paper, heterojunctions formed by graphene oxide (GO) and ZIF-8 were locked in sodium alginate/ carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals via hydrogen bonding networks, designated as SCGZ. The SCGZ films exhibit superior photocatalytic performance compared to either ZIF-8 or heterojunctions. This enhancement is primarily due to two key factors: firstly, the hydrogen bonding network significantly enhances the transfer of protons and holes, thereby improving the separation efficiency of photo-generated carriers; secondly, the hydrogen bonding between the layers facilitates a more efficient charge transfer, which expedites the movement of electrons from ZIF-8 to GO upon illumination. In vitro studies demonstrated that the SCGZ films possess remarkable antibacterial capabilities, achieving 99.75 % and 99.61 % inhibition rates against S. aureus and E. coli, respectively. In vivo animal experiments have shown that SCGZ films can significantly accelerate the healing process of damaged tissues, with a healing efficiency of up to 90.5 %. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is highly heterogeneous and aggressive, but therapies based on single-targeted nanoparticles frequently address these tumors as a single illness. To achieve more efficient drug transport, it is crucial to develop nanodrug-carrying systems that simultaneously target two or more cancer biomarkers. In addition, combining chemotherapy with near-infrared (NIR) light-mediated thermotherapy allows the thermal ablation of local malignancies via photothermal therapy (PTT), and triggers drug release to improve chemosensitivity. Thus, a novel dual-targeted nano-loading system, DOX@GO-HA-HN-1 (GHHD), was created for synergistic chemotherapy and PTT by the co-modification of carboxylated graphene oxide (GO) with hyaluronic acid (HA) and HN-1 peptide and loading with the anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX). Targeted delivery using GHHD was shown to be superior to single-targeted nanoparticle delivery. NIR radiation will encourage the absorption of GHHD by tumor cells and cause the site-specific release of DOX in conjunction with the acidic microenvironment of the tumor. In addition, chemo-photothermal combination therapy for cancer treatment was realized by causing cell apoptosis under the irradiation of 808-nm laser. To advance cervical cancer diagnostics, we propose a state-of-the-art label-free electrochemical immunosensor designed for the simultaneous detection of multiple biomarker proteins (p16 INK4a , p53, and Ki67). This immunosensor is constructed using a polyethyleneimine-coated gold nanoparticles/2D tungsten disulfide/graphene oxide (PEI-AuNPs/2D WS 2 /GO) composite-modified three-screen-printed carbon electrode (3SPCE) array. The 2D WS 2 /GO hybrid provides a large specific surface area for supporting well-dispersed PEI-AuNPs and adsorbed redox-active species, enhancing overall performance. The PEI-AuNPs-decorated 2D WS 2 /GO composite not only improves electrode conductivity but also increases the antibody loading capacity. Redox-active species, including Cd 2+ ions, 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP), and methylene blue (MB), serve as distinct signaling compounds to quantitatively detect the cervical cancer biomarkers p16 INK4a , p53, and Ki67, respectively. Additionally, the immunosensor demonstrates the detection with high sensitivity, good storage stability, high selectivity, and acceptable reproducibility. This immunosensor demonstrates a good linear relationship with the logarithm of protein concentrations.
