This book surveys the rapid development of Digital Media like digital television, the participatory Internet, multimedia services, social networking sites and mobile technology, focusing on their social diffusion and analyzing the impact of these media broadly on society, local and international politics and Economics. It aims to provide an integrated platform for students to engage and critically analyze the issues surrounding the multifaceted relationships between Digital Media and the society in general. For this purpose, it attempts to include most critical areas of influence of Digital Media in the context of Social Sciences: Society, Politics and Economics. In the first three chapters, the introductory terms and notions are presented, including the Information Society and the transition to the Networked Society. In the next chapter, the transition from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 is described and Social Media and Social Networking Analysis are introduced. Two Chapters of are dedicated on implications of Social Media in Politics, Education and the New Generation. In five Chapters of the book the Ηabermasian Public Sphere issues are investigated with the lens of Digital Media. Therefore, the Digital Divide is initially defined followed by an analysis of many critical areas including Democracy in the Digital Age, e-Government, e-Business and e-Commerce. Subsequently, Social Movements and Activism in the Digital Age. The book "Digital Media and Society: Convenient Regulators of Society, Politics and Economics: aims in becoming an essential reading for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Social Sciences generally without a special scientific or technical background, who aim to explore and potentially seek motivation for more in depth investigation of one (or more) of the following dynamically evolving areas: the realm of digital media, the Internet, social media, the public sphere, the mobile culture, Internet Politics and Digital Marketing., Το βιβλίο ερευνά την ταχεία ανάπτυξη των Ψηφιακών Μέσων όπως η ψηφιακή τηλεόραση, το συμμετοχικό Διαδίκτυο, οι υπηρεσίες πολυμέσων, οι ιστότοποι κοινωνικής δικτύωσης και η τεχνολογία κινητών επικοινωνιών, εστιάζοντας στην κοινωνική τους διάχυση και αναλύοντας την επίδραση αυτών των μέσων στην κοινωνία, στην τοπική και διεθνή πολιτική και στην οικονομία. Για το σκοπό αυτό, επιχειρεί να συμπεριλάβει τους πιο κρίσιμους τομείς επιρροής των Ψηφιακών Μέσων στο πλαίσιο των Κοινωνικών Επιστημών: Κοινωνία, Πολιτική και Οικονομικά. Στα τρία πρώτα κεφάλαια παρουσιάζονται εισαγωγικοί όροι και έννοιες, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της Κοινωνίας της Πληροφορίας και της μετάβασης στη Δικτυωμένη Κοινωνία. Στο επόμενο κεφάλαιο, περιγράφεται η μετάβαση από το Web 1.0 στο Web 2.0 και γίνεται η εισαγωγή στα Social Media και την Ανάλυση Κοινωνικών Δικτύων. Δύο κεφάλαια αφιερώνονται στις επιπτώσεις των Social Media στην Πολιτική, στην Εκπαίδευση και στη Νέα Γενιά. Σε πέντε Κεφάλαια του βιβλίου παρουσιάζεται και διερευνάται υπό την οπτική των Ψηφιακών Μέσων η Δημόσια Σφαίρα του Χάμπερμας. Ekonomi ve iletişim sistemlerinin küreselleşerek, ulus devletlerin ötesine geçilmesi tüketici pozisyonundaki vatandaşları politikaya katılmaya teşvik etmektedir. Küresel bir iletişim sistemi olan internet vasıtasıyla bireylerin demokratik toplumun bir parçası olması ve siyasal iletişimin güçlenmesi mümkün olmaktadır. Bu çalışma bilhassa, Manuel Castells’in bilgi toplumu, iletişim ve küreselleşme arasındaki ilişkiyi aydınlatan çalışmaları referans alınarak, dijital ağların giderek güçlenmesi ve medyanın çeşitlenmesi sonucunda siyasetin de gitgide daha fazla medya ortamında gerçekleştirilmeye başlanması ve buna bağlı olarak liderliğin kişiselleşerek, partilerden ziyade liderlerin ön plana çıkmaya başlaması üzerine kurulmuştur. Artık politikacıların milyonlarca insanla rahatlıkla ve anlık olarak iletişime geçebildiğini söyleyebiliyoruz. Bunu yaparken büyük mitingler düzenlemek ve masraf etmek zorunda değildirler. Bunun yerine, politikacıların ağ toplumunun dinamiklerini anlayarak, sosyal medyayı ve internetle gelen diğer iletişim araçlarını iyi kullanabiliyor olmaları gerekmektedir.Bu bağlamda çalışmanın odak noktası, siyasi iletişim kampanyalarının küresel iletişim sistemleri ile olan ilişkisini anlamlandırmaya çalışmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı küresel medya ve özellikle internet ile siyasal iletişimin nasıl çalıştığını daha geniş ekonomik, sosyal ve politik konuların ışığında eleştirel bir bakış açısı ile anlamaya çalışmaktır. Sonuç kısmında, siyasi liderlerin, küresel çağda kendilerini toplumlara ispatlayabilen ve sanal gerçeklikle başa çıkabilen, yetenekli, özgüvenli, başkalarının farklılıklarına saygı gösteren ve mükemmeliyetçi kişiler olması gerektiği vurgulanmaktadır., The globalization of the economy and the communication systems beyond the nation-states encourages consumer citizens to participate actively in politics. Through the internet, which is a global communication system, political communication becomes stronger and it is possible for citizens to be a part of the democratic society.This work gives particular reference to Manuel Castells’ works that illuminate the relationship between information society, communication and globalization, and emphasizes the increasing personalization of politics as a result of the strengthening of digital networks, the diversification of the media. From this framework of Castells, as a result, the leadership has become more personalized. Today, politicians can easily and instantly communicate with millions of people. Politicians do not have to organize large rallies for big expenses. Instead, it is necessary for policy makers to understand, to use the dynamics of network society, and to benefit the social media and other means of communications within the Internet.In this context, the focus of the study is to make sense of the relationship between the dynamics of political communications and global communication systems. The aim of this study is to try to understand how political communication works with global media and especially Internet with a critical perspective in the light of wider economic, social and political issues.In this article, New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will be presented as an exemplary leader in terms of communications. This paper concludes that, political leaders should be capable, self-confident, respecting the differences of others and able to cope with virtual reality in the global era.

The article presents a philosophical analysis of the humanitarian impact of educational reform due to the influence of new digital technologies. The post-industrial development of society has been characterized as a network society. Specifically, the revolution in media today defines the technological and substantive changes in the educational sector. Its modernization in the 1990s in Russia began through the discussion of the humanitarian mission of the classical university model. However, the process of globalization and the mobility of education demanded the alignment and unification of national educational programs. The Bologna Process was a response. It was implemented in Russia as a two-tiered system, although the society still needed specialists and engineers rather than bachelors and masters. The restructuring of the educational process to comply with international standards then led to the necessity of economic reform. Society needed educated specialists but could not support a large number of educational institutions with a sizable staff. In the manufacturing sector, automatization leads to a growth in workforce productivity whereas in education the traditional pedagogy is mainly practiced. Digital technologies have opened up new opportunities for the increased economic efficiency of centers of education. However, the faculty body, especially in the Humanities sphere, expressed strong criticism. The argument is that digital technologies do not solve pedagogic problems. While discussing the economic efficiency, the main, substantive issue of the meaning and purpose of education has been left aside. Hence the question of how an individual’s education can be embedded into the overall educational process continues to be of high relevance. Resorting to philosophy may be appropriate and reasonable inasmuch as it has accumulated a range of caring and self-preservation practices aimed at the development of social skills of an individuum. Philosophy can also provide an anthropological expertise of on-going reforms, identifying their social and cultural implications.

The article is devoted to the problem of global values, whose existence is problematized in the face of increased regionalization as a vector of world development. Regionalization is not “the end of globalization”, but its stage, which is “the revolution of plurality” (M. Naim) — distribution regularities of the network society on the whole world. The global world is not a homo geneous world of mankind based on the same values, rather the global world is a combination of diverse social communities striving for autonomy and self-determination. Building on the concepts of M. McLuhan, A. Toffler, D. Bell and N. Luhman, the article analyzes the information society in which the main element is communication as a source of social innovations. Digital technologies contribute to the development of human abilities and personal qualities without which social progress is impossible. If the vision of humanity in the development of the network society, where relations between the countries, regions, social communities and people are built on the basis of the values of life, liberty, creativity, justice, law, etc., then these values should be recognized as global. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the reaction of various social communities on regionalization, which finds its expression in the deepening of social inequality, increasing conflict of generations and other phenomena that contribute to disseminating conservative ideas and moods. Based on the works of J. Derrida, N. Luhman and D. Kean, it is shown that global values are not the achievements of exclusively European culture but are to varying degrees implemented and developed in all cultures. Against the background of the crisis of multiculturalism, the integration of cultures should be based on intercultural communication, for which the process of coordinating positions is important. The purpose of intercultural communication is not only the exchange of cultural values, but the demonstration of the benefits of life in those communities that are guided by global values.

The network society, which is relevant to the social landscape of the 21st century, determines the building of a new architecture of law. The current legal map of the world is extremely heterogeneous and often does not coincide with the political map of the world. It is full of a variety of normative arrays that collide with each other, layered on top of each other, while the traditional legal methodology is not always able to resolve conflicts that arise. The problem of controversy between law and not law is gaining considerable potential due to the rapid growth of non-legal matter and the emergence of legitimizing institutions. The situation is complicated by the simultaneous existence of several institutional dispute resolution systems (state, non-state, alternative, platform-based) that refer to completely different, relatively autonomous subsystems of norms as applicable law. Such material and institutional fragmentation, the emergence of hybrid regulatory and institutional regimes has provoked an active search for new principles of building a legal architecture that is adequate to such a rapidly changing society. Globalization is transforming into networking, which redefines the geography of the world, the well-known and traditional principles of affiliation of legal entities, and then exacerbates the debates about legal taxonomy. The marked evolution of the legal superstructure also generates new types of conflicts, prompting the search for a new or adaptation of the known methodology in order to overcome them.The paper attempts to explore the new normativity in the context of a new sociality, to identify key trends in the development of the law of a network society, to predict the development of individual legal and sub-legal institutions, and to model legal ways of managing hybridity.

The global sociology was formed at end of the XXthcentury — at the beginning of the XXIthcentury. It consists of a great number of sociological theories belonging to different sociological traditions with different methodological approaches. These theories have a common object field and a common vision of sociological problems which need to be analyzed. The aim of the article is to clarify and to give a theoretical structure to the object field of the global sociology as a specifie research sphere. This specifie sphere of sociological research has its own systemic character due to the unity of the object field. The object field of the global sociology is formed, first, by the processes which have shaped the contemporary global world and second, by the structure and order of this global world. The theoretical and methodological analysis of the theories which make up the global sociology shows that these theories can be divided into two large groups. The first group is formed by theories based on a universalist approach and a universalist vision of the actual global order. The universalist sociological perspective is rooted in the Enligtenmeht social philosophy, in the theories of development of classical sociology, in the original impulses of theories of modernization and Westernization. The uniting principle of all the mentioned theories is the common vision of the contemporary world as the one universal social space which to one extent or other transcends both concrete societies and nation-states. This large group of theories can be subdivided in two subgroups. The first subgroup of universalist theories views the contemporary global world with its order as a result of some original impulses of development of modernity. These impulses are being realized as the universal global order. The article analyzes the sociological theories of I. Wallerstein and A. Giddens as examples of such universalist theories. The second subgroup is formed by theories of globalization which are based on the analysis of the processes of digitalization, networking and also of new basic “mobilities” which are shaping a new global morphology of the space of “flows”. The theories of M. Castels, J. Urry and U. Beck are the examples of such universalis theories. The article also analyzes a global sociological universalist discourse which conceptualizes the global order through “theories of empire”.The Part I of the article is dedicated to universalis theories of global sociology. The Part II is dedicated to the second large group of theories of the contemporary global sociology. These theories are based on the civilization approach which views the contemporary world as a set of civilizations.

In the article the results of theoretical research on international relations, presented in foreign and domestic scientific publications on the relevant issues are examined and are systematized. It is substantiated that the problem field of international relations continues to be actively studied from the standpoint of all three traditional versions of their interpretations - as a «scientific discipline», as a «theory of international relations», as a «system of international interactions». For each moment, which in a certain way characterizes the direction and procedure for the implementation of cognitive activity in international relations as a theory and system of interactions of certain subjects, active discussions continue to be observed. The emphasis is on the moment of defining a new effective strategy for studying the interactions of political actors within the framework of the existing international system. It is substantiated that a promising strategy for further research in this direction is the active appeal of international experts to the heuristic potential of those theoretical constructions that most adequately interpret the foundations of the formation and functioning of a modern society («information society», «post-industrial society», «network society», «сommunication society», «risk society», «global society», etc.) as a whole (that is, not as a specific local system, but as a global entity). The following characteristics of these theories are considered as arguments: a) the presence in these concepts of the prospects for the development of the social system in the context of globalization; b) the obligatory determination of the development mechanism of all structural elements of society; c) the existence of relationships between different levels of functioning of state and non-state, political, economic and other institutions and structures

Ortaya çıkan yeni durumlara uyum sağlama zorunluluğu, insanların bireysel alışkanlıklarında da değişim ve döşüme uyum sağlamasını zorunlu kılmıştır. Teknolojinin insan yaşamında kendini en fazla hissettiren alanları ise dijitalleşme ve dijitalleşmeden temel alınarak ortaya çıkmış olan yeni medya ortamlarının sağladığı ağ temelli iletişim yapısı olduğu ifade edilebilir. Toplumların ve ulusların benliklerinin derinliğinde varlığı reddedilemeyen teknolojinin değişim ve dönüşümü, dijitalleşme ve yeni medya ortamlarını hem desteklemekte hem de çeşitlendirmesiyle birlikte kullanıcılara sanal dünyada, eğlenme ve boş vakit geçirme anlamında gerçeklikte ve pratikte yerini almaktadır. Bununla birlikte yeni medya ortamlarına egemen devletlerin, emperyalist hedefleri için kolaylık sağlayan bir araç görevini de ifa etmektedir. Bu çalışmada, toplumların çevresini, yaşam biçimlerini, kültürlerini değiştiren yeni medya ortamları küreselleşme bağlamında incelenmeye çalışılacaktır. Yeni medya ortamlarının ve dijitalleşmenin oluşum süreci ile birlikte bu kavramların meydana getirdikleri sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik değişimlerin toplum üzerindeki etkilerine yönelik yeni bir bakış açısı kazanılabilmesi amaçlanmıştır., In today's world we live in as the age of technology, individuals who continue their lives are faced with a lot of innovation and development due to the technological advances that give the age its name. The necessity/responsibility of adapting to new situations may lead to alterations in people's own habits. These cumulative accumulations can pave the way for significant sociocultural and economic changes. It can be stated that the areas where technology makes itself felt the most in human life are digitalization and new media and network-based communication structure that emerged based on digitalization. The determination and tendency of globalization cannot be denied in the depth of the selves of societies and nations, both support digitalization and new media, and take their place in reality and practice, rather than being a mere idea, more quickly and effectively with their presence. At the same time, new media platforms can bring great convenience and limitlessness to the globalization efforts of imperialist or sovereign states. In this study, digitalization, new media and globalization, which change the environment, lifestyle and culture of societies or masses and are also affected by the society, will be discussed as concepts. It is aimed to examine the social, cultural and economic changes brought about by digitalization and the formation process of new media and the interaction of these concepts with globalization and thus gain a perspective on predicting their possible results. While preparing the study, many theorist writers and internet news were used. It has been studied by dealing with the subject with reference-centered, case and compilation method.

Modern society is characterized as a network, which makes it necessary to rethink its superstructure — law — in the logic of the network paradigm of scientific knowledge. At the interface of law and information technology, new legal and sub-legal phenomena arise that need to be conceptualized. International private law, being in the forefront of the changes that are taking place, possesses a special methodology that can adapt to the network society. The paper analyzes the individual signs of the formation of a new paradigm. One of the most revolutionary products of the Network are global technological or digital platforms, within which predominantly cross-border private law relationships are formed, mediated by transactions, collectively understood as e-commerce or m-commerce. The legal analysis suggests that americanization of «platform law» is observed. Of interest for the study of the network paradigm is the emerging practice of online arbitration in disputes involving consumers. A significant role in the regulation of modern cross-border relations is assigned to the norms of non-state regulation, traditionally conceptualized through the prism of lex mercatoria, which is now systematized in the logic of the legal system, highlighting the subsystems brought to life by globalization processes. The corresponding changes testify to the modification of the architecture of the regulation of cross-border relations.

The article examines different approaches to network society analysis, its formation, features and trends. The basis of network society is formed by the Internet and social and media networks infrastructure that transform social reality and methods of social communication at individual, group and global levels. The formation of a new social order necessarily requires the formation of a new social culture, a digital culture, as a crucially important and regulatory component of the network society. Digital etiquette is an essential part of digital culture. It defines values and norms of network communication for participants at all levels of interaction. This article analyzes specific features and functions of digital etiquette as a new form of behavior in virtual environment, and as one of the methods of gaining individual freedom of expression, respecting the interests of the Other. The study reveals the role and importance of etiquette in the formation and development of the network society as a historical regulatory and ethical frame of social relations.

Este artigo utiliza-se da pesquisa bibliográfica e do método dialético para abordar os fundamentos da existência do Estado Moderno e os motivos de sua crise frente aos fluxos de dados característicos da globalização. A problemática contradição entre a solidez da estrutura estatal e a liquidez do sistema atual de relações dirige-se à conclusão de que não se fazem suficientes os elementos territorializados do Estado para a proteção dos objetivos a que o mesmo se dispõe, ocorrendo, por isso, a desestruturação do Estado tradicional. Nesse sentido, opera-se a análise da transposição dos muros institucionais de poder frente à sociedade em rede.

The formation of personality in modern information age occurs with interaction of real world, artificial, and augmented reality. The network society contributes to emergence of new human culture with transformation of moral sphere, social interaction, and technology. Changes in education are connected with challenges of modern society, while rapid development of information technologies is a consequence of new political, social, cultural, technological, and economic factors. Network socialization in the face of today world’s globalization becomes a main factor of formation of new personal identities, which are formed beyond the scope of education system. The question of control of identity formation in the context of network society is a key goal of every society and government. Importance of current social situation which defines the specific character of personality development in connection of real world and artificial reality determined the topic of this research.

The authors show that the liberal biopolitics gave a birth to the development of the rationalized surveillance based on power-knowledge as a complex of force relations. Due to formal pragma-tism, rational knowledge and the disciplinary technology the ‘society of normalization’ arose. Its influence spread not only to concrete individuals, but to all the people and was only limited by the nation-state sovereignty and historic time (up to the end of the 20th centu-ry). But nowadays there appear such factors as globalization, the rise of the network society, the digitalization that mark the evidence of complexity, non-linear development and the emergence of multi-ple risks, vulnerabilities, and uncertainties

Places have been promoting their attractions throughout history for almost a century now and place marketing started capturing the attention of economic researchers in the early 1990s. Although the globalized space has become a major interdisciplinary field of study in the past few decades, we still do not have a definite solution for measuring or predicting the changes it brings. The aim of this study is to propose an instrument to help scholars quantify the Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 components of the online presence of place brands and their spatial dynamics in a broader global context. By taking the &lsquo, space of flows&rsquo, approach to frame globalization, we questioned whether geography is still destiny in the context of online place branding communication. To answer the question, we developed a category grid and applied it in the content analysis of 82 official country websites. We found that geographical position is still important in conditioning the adoption of Web 1.0, and does not make a significant difference in the adoption of Web 2.0. However, the strongest predictors of the adoption of Web 1.0 are not the ones related to geography, but to socio-economic inequality. It is therefore possible for the theorizations of the advantages of the &lsquo, globalization to be suitable only for Web 2.0, Web 1.0 still being under the influence of the &lsquo, space of place&rsquo, We discussed the implications of adopting the network society theory in place branding communication in order to nuance the understanding of the transitions from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 and from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0 in place marketing.

The connected society, in the perspective of cyberculture, influenced by globalization, sustains a perspective of global community in which subjects are faced with almost infinite possibilities of exchanging information through information and communication technologies. The study aims to analyze the training of teachers in distance education from the perspective of the Network Society. Methodologically, the text was constructed through bibliographic research. The theoretical foundations are based on Castells (2009), Levy (2007), Meszaros (2008), Lapa and Pretto (2010), Santos (2009), Dantas (2017), among others. The results show that the viability of teacher training in the perspective of the networked society will become effective when technology serves the changing interests of social reality. It is concluded that teacher training in this perspective may be able to produce knowledge in the scope of cyberculture, establishing the link between education and culture. Even utopian, this training action can go beyond the limits of the educational field itself, strengthening cultures and values.

The article examines a set of factors that determine the impact of network communication and network connections on the likelihood of contracting a new coronavirus in European and Latin American countries. The author presents several data sets to prove several suggestions: 1) the generalized indicators of economic development and society's globalization are not indicators of how vulnerable a country's population may be in a pandemic; 2) not the economy as such, but the conventional way of life of people, their daily behavior, and habits have a decisive influence on disease spread, 3) such factors of protection and health promotion as the habit of exercise, distance, and network communications use modern online services to become protective factors against the risk of infection only at a certain level of development of the country; 4) in developed countries, a much broader set of factors than developing countries determine protection against disease risk; 5) the evolution of a networked society opens up significant opportunities for developing countries, improved quality of life, and the emergence of new traditions. The results of the data analysis carried out by the author indicate the direction of further research.

Actuality. The scientific and technological revolution and the globalization of the world objectively form the conditions for the society transition to a new social order, when network structures and interactions become the basis of life. However, the lack of comprehensive scientific developments regarding the formation of a management system that is adequate to the new realities of society, constrains these processes and slows down the dynamics of countries' development. Purposeand methods. The purpose of the article is to develop the theoretical foundations of the formation of a modern system of life-saving society management in the context of strengthening the globalization of the world and the emergence of a new social order. The methodological basis of the study is the dialectical principle of cognition, systemic, civilizational and synergetic approaches to the study of social phenomena, the fundamental provisions of the theory and history of society and the management of its subsystems. Results. The essence of organizations and their management in the conditions of becoming a post-industrial society has been revealed. The nature, structure and mechanism of functioning of network organizations have been investigated. The impossibility of further effective use of obsolete hierarchical structures and methods of management has been proved. The new management system for the conditions of globalized network society has been substantiated. Conclusions and discussion. The scientific novelty of the obtained results consists in: deep understanding the essence of the concepts of «organization» and «management»; Identifying trends in the changing environment of organizations in the transition to a post-industrial society; the substantiation of the methodological foundations of the formation of a modern system of life-saving management of a society. The practical significance of the obtained results has been manifested in the possibility of using them for solving a number of theoretical problems and developing recommendations for the timely adaptation of organizations to the new logic and trends in the development of society.

This article studies the development of innovative component for the region’s economic security. The hypothesis of the study is that in the context of globalization and development of network society, innovation is becoming one of the key elements ensuring the economic security of a region. We considered the relationship between the concepts of sustainable development and economic security. The authors show that currently, the economic security of the country directly depends on its place within the innovation chain. We substantiate that Russian Federation and its regions need to shift to the innovation development based on strengthening its own sources for long-term growth. The paper considers the basic theoretical and methodological problems in the formation of innovation component of the Russian regions’ economic security. We reveal the major essence and elements of the innovative component of the sustainable economic development of the region. The authors show that the formation of the innovative component of the region’s economic security demands the correlation of the strategy of regional innovation development and the production and technological type of territory. Additionally, this strategy should correlate with the desirable ways of production type transformation in the future, considering the trends of the world economy. We have highlighted the production and technological types of Russian regions as well as identified the features of relevant regional components for the innovation system of the Russian Federation to ensure sustainable development. The study defines the priority directions and goals for the development of economic security innovative component in the Russian regions. The authors’ calculations allowed to select a group of territorial subjects of the Russian Federation, which appear to be the most promising for the development of innovative activities for the elaboration of export-oriented high-tech industries. The results of this research can be used to improve the management of innovation activity and ensure the economic security of the Russian regions.
