Nonlinear systems of equations are widely used in science and engineering and, therefore, exploring efficient ways to solve them is paramount. In this paper, a new derivative-free approach for solving a nonlinear system of equations with convex constraints is proposed. The search direction of the proposed method is derived based on a modified conjugate gradient method, in such a way that it is sufficiently descent. It is worth noting that, unlike many existing methods that require a monotonicity assumption to prove the convergence result, our new method needs the underlying function to be pseudomonotone, which is a weaker assumption. The performance of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated on a set of some test problems and applications arising from compressive sensing. This paper presents a hybrid conjugate gradient (CG) approach for solving nonlinear equations and signal reconstruction. The CG parameter of the approach is a convex combination of the Dai‐Yuan (DY)‐like and Hestenes‐Stiefel (HS)‐like parameters. Independent of any line search, the search direction is descent and bounded. Under some reasonable assumptions, the global convergence of the hybrid approach is proved. Numerical experiments on some benchmark test problems show that the proposed approach is efficient compared with some existing algorithms. This article presents a new hybrid conjugate gradient (CG) algorithm for solving unconstrained optimization problem. The search direction is defined as a combination of Hestenes–Stiefel (HS) and the Liu–Storey (LS) CG parameters and is close to the direction of the memoryless Broyden–Fletcher–Goldferb–Shanno (BFGS) quasi-Newton direction. In addition, the search direction is descent and bounded. The global convergence of the algorithm is obtained under the Wolfe-type and Armijo-type line searches. Numerical experiments on some benchmark test problems is carried out to depict the efficiency and robustness of the hybrid algorithm.
