The presentation, analysis and summary of the 61st Annual Scientific Meeting of the British Society for Research on Ageing - BSRA and of the 14th Congress of the International Association of Biomedical Gerontology - IABG are the alignment to the current stage and, especially, to future directions of transforming present day reality of an aging people with disabilities into long-lived, competitive psychologically and physically active human beings, with much longer ontogenetic periods. The focus on certain areas of research becomes essential for the speedier discovery and introduction of prophylactic, therapeutic and recovery solutions for human senescence and its transformation into human longevity. The article reports on the demographic changes of older people's population coupled with the technological innovation in the United States. It presents the estimated population of older people in the United States based on the report issued by the National Center for Health Statistics, 2005. High attention was given by researchers and policy makers on the topic of technology and aging due to the important means of maintaining and enhancing older people's quality of life. Several conferences and meetings were held to address this issue including the sponsored workshop of the National Research Council and the National Institute on Aging in 2003.

Information on several topics discussed at the International Symposium on Ageing and the 16th Biennial Conference of the Association of Gerontology (India) (AGI) is presented. Topics concerning the medical, biological and socio-psychological aspects of ageing was discussed. The symposium featured several AGI members including president Ramesh Sharma, North-Eastern Hill University vice-chancellor A. N. Rai and Sataro Goto from the University Medical School in Tokyo, Japan.

The article announces the opening for the registration and abstract submission for the conference entitled "Understanding Aging: Biomedical and Bioengineering Approaches" to be held at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Los Angeles, California on June 27-29, 2008. The focus of the conference is on the applied biogerontology which is the design and implementation of biomedical interventions that may establish a comprehensive panel of rejuvenation therapy. Moreover, the registration for the conference includes a preferential admission to the public preconference entitled " Aging: the disease, the cure, the implications" which will be held at UCLA on June 27, 2008.
