In this study, socio-cultural and economic variables based on cultural peculiarities were performed to determine more similar districts to each other from 10 districts of Kahramanmaras Province. To achieve this goal the statistical technique was used that name is “Hierarchical Cluster Analysis”. To determine the number of clusters, 10 districts of Kahramanmaras Province were tested by hierarchical cluster analysis. The analysis results of the single linkage method were supported with dendrogram, agglomerative schedule and proximity matrix. It is determined that counties of Kahramanmaras Province which are on the border to Adana and Osmaniye provinces are showed similarities to each other in cultural perspective but northern and eastern counties are depicted differences to each other and southern counties

This research includes examination of cultural characteristics of Adana City which represent rapid population growth and economic development. Three districts (Yenibey, Akkapı ve Yurt) were chosen as a research area. To achieve our goal questionnaire method was applied to collect data about factors (education, health, housing, social security, local administrations, environment, salary, the number of children in family etc.) that have an affect on cultural formation. Chi-Square test was used in order to understand whether the differences among districts are significant. Additionally, Chi-Square test used for identification of the relationships between districts and socio-economic factors. According the Chi-Squaretest results showed that Yurt district is different form the other districs in tems of cultural characteristics which are shaped by economic income, education, health, housing and number of household

In this study, 54 socio-economic variables were used to determine groups for Turkish provinces which represent similar characteristics. To achive this goal hierarchical cluster analyses was decided to be an appropirate statistical test. While doing determination of number of clusters for 81 provinces, the data set was tested with 7,10 and 15 clusters(groups). As a result of testing clustering processes, the group with 15 members was selected to use during analyses. The analyses were supported with dendogram and agglomerative schedule. Squared oklid distance and pearson proximity matrix were used to calculate distances between different provinces to find out province groups which have similar socio-economic character. The results indicate that, the most similar provinces are Bitlis and Mardin, and the least similar provinces are İstanbul and Kars. Consequently, this study is able to determine social and economical differences of Turkey’s provinces with aid of hierarchical cluster technique

In this research the dynamic structure of Turkey’s population was analayzed by using the concept of population center computation at local and nationwide scale as used by the United States Census Bureau.Turkey’s population has icreased continiously since foundation of the republic. However, this rapid inrease of population has not effected on the distribution of population through out Turkey’s geographical regions and provinces. Because of this continous and rapid increase of population, location of weighted centers of population (WCP) have changed significantly for each period. All Turkey’s population centers located on the westside of the mean center of Turkey. Between 1935-2000, direction of movement of Turkey’s population was southeasternward, then southwesternward and recent years are reflected in the concomitent west ward shift of the center of population. At regional scale, centers of population of four geograpical regions located in the south as respect to mean center. Two regions’ population center located in the east and one region showed southward movement

Mersin, which is located in the Adana subregion of the mediterranean region, is one of the big cities in Turkey and the region in the sense of population and economical aspects. The city of Mersin was built on the southwest corner of Çukurova where Delicay and Müftü creeks create narrow coastal floodplain, and where the state roads coming from Eastern Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia and Interior Anatolia are intersect on the mediterranean coast. Mersin and Çukurova plains have rich potential for agricultural practices with fertile alluvial soils and suitable climate. This agricultural potential was attracted people to the area, and eventually was caused rapid growing of industry and trade in Mersin. These developments are resulted rapid spatial expansion of the city.However, the desire for cheaper infrastructure and superstructure lead to cause expansion of the city over fertile agricultural lands along the Adana-Mersin-Antalya road. These unplanned structures, along both sides of the Adana-Mersin-Antalya road, have been causing unplanned urbanization consequently affecting agricultural areas negatively.For protection of fertile agricultural areas and suitable urbanisation, expansion of the city has to be directed toward north where has steeper slope with less fertile soils. To achive this goal, new suitable zoning and construction plans must be prepared and implemented immediately
