Background: Brachyura crab is the largest branch of Decapoda crustacean. Phylogenetic relationships within Brachyura remain controversial to be investigated. The mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) is an important molecular marker for studying the phylogenetic relationships of Brachyura., Methods and Results: To understand the phylogeny of Brachyura, the three complete mitogenomes from Charybdis annulata, Leptodius exaratus, and Spider crab were sequenced and annotated. Their full length was 15,747, 15,716, and 16,608 bp long, respectively. The first two crabs both contained 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and a control region. However, Spider crab contained 13 PCGs, two rRNA genes, 25 tRNA genes and a control region. The mitogenomes of each of the three crabs exhibited high AT content (67.8%, 69.1%, and 70.8%), with negative AT skews (-0.014, - 0.028, and - 0.017) and GC skews (-0.269, - 0.286, and - 0.341). The gene order of C. annulata was identical to the ancestor of Brachyura. Compared with the ancestor of Brachyura, L. exaratus exhibited the gene rearrangements of Val (V)-rrnS-control region, and Spider crab had the four copies of Lys (K). Phylogenetic analyses indicated that C. annulata belonged to Portunidae family, Portunoidea superfamilies, L. exaratus belonged to Xanthidae family, Xanthoidea superfamilies, and Spider crab belonged to Mithracidae family, Majoidea superfamilies. Phylogenetic analyses showed that the two species (Somanniathelphusa boyangensis and Huananpotamon lichuanense) belonging to the Potamoidea were sister groups to the Thoracotremata, thus supporting the conclusion that Heterotremata is polyphyletic., Conclusion: The results of this study enriched the crab mitogenome database and enabled us to better understand the phylogenetic relationships of Brachyura., (© 2023. Mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) help advance our learning of molecular evolution and phylogenetic relationships. The mitogenome of H. latimera is 16,246 bp in length, which typically contains 37 animal mitogenome genes consisting of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, and 22 tRNA genes, as well as a control region. The AT content of H. latimera is 69.1%. The A + T skew of the mitogenome of H. latimera was slightly negative (-0.017). The size of Thirteen PCGs is from 162 bp to 1731 bp. Twenty-two tRNA genes ranged from 62 to 73 bp and were highly A + T biased. All tRNA genes owed a typical cloverleaf structure, not including the trnS1 gene lacking a dihydroxyuridine arm. One PCG, two rRNAs, and 12 of the tRNAs were rearranged compared to the pancrustacean gene order. The mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) can provide important information for understanding phylogenetic analysis and molecular evolution. Herein, we amplified the complete mitogenome sequence of Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. The mitogenome was 16,526 bp in length and included 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes and a non-coding control region (D-loop). Both the organization and location of genes in the mitogenome were consistent with those from Siluriformes fishes previously published in GenBank. The phylogenetic relationships based on Bayesian inference (BI) and Maximum likelihood (ML) methods showed that P. fulvidraco has close relationships with Pelteobagrus eupogon and Tachysurus intermedius, suggesting that P. fulvidraco belongs to Tachysurus. This study provides evidence that Tachysurus, Pseudobagrus and Leiocassis do not form monophyly, but that these three genera form a monophyletic group. The mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) can provide information for phylogenetic analysis and evolutionary biology. Here, we determined the complete mitogenome sequence of Sinna extrema (Noctuoidea: Nolidae). The newly determined mitogenome was 15,345 bp in length and included 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and a control region (CR) similar to the known mitogenome of other lepidopterans. The entire mitogenome was biased towards using A and T, with an A + T content of 90.6%. Both the AT and GC skews in the mitogenome of S. extrema were negative. All PCGs were initiated with the standard start codon ATN, while cox1 began with CGA. All tRNA genes had the typical cloverleaf structure, except for the trnS1, which lacked a dihydroxyuridine arm. A gene rearrangement (trnM) was also found in the S. extrema mitogenome. To understand evolutionary relationships, we performed phylogenetic analysis using Bayesian inference (BI) and Maximum likelihood (ML) methods. Our phylogenetic analysis indicated that S. extrema and Gabala argentata cluster together with high nodal support values, and G. argentata is a member of the family Nolidae, which suggests that S. extrema belongs to Nolidae. The mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) plays an important role in revealing molecular evolution. In this study, the complete mitogenome of Grammodes geometrica (G. geometrica) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae) was sequenced and characterized. The nucleotide composition of the genome is highly A + T biased, accounting for 80.49%. Most protein-coding genes (PCGs) are initiated by ATN codons except for the cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene, which was initiated by CGA. The order and orientation of genes with the order trnM-trnI-trnQ-nad2 is a typical rearrangement compared with those ancestral insects in which trnM is located between trnQ and nad2. Most tRNA genes were folded into the typical cloverleaf structure except for trnS1 (AGN). The A + T-rich region contains the conserved motif "ATAGA" followed by a 19 bp poly-T stretch, which was also observed in other Noctuoidea species. In addition, we reconstructed phylogenetic trees among the nucleotide alignments of five families of Noctuoidea species except the Oenosandridae. Finally, we achieved a well-supported tree, which showed that G. geometrica belongs to the Erebidae family. In the present study, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Clostera anastomosis (C. anastomosis) has been determined for the first time. The mitogenome is 15,390 base pairs (bp) in length, comprised of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs) and one non-coding control region (CR). The gene order shows a typical trnM rearrangement (trnM-trnI-trnQ) compared to ancestral insects (trnI-trnQ-trnM). Almost all the PCGs have the same start codon (ATN) except for cox1 (CGA), and almost all tRNAs have a typical cloverleaf secondary structure except for trnS1. At the beginning of the CR, we found a conserved motif "ATAGA + poly-T" as found in other lepidopteran insects. There are 20 intergenic regions and 11 overlapping regions, ranging from 1 to 53 bp and 1 to 9 bp, respectively. The A + T content is relatively high across the whole mitogenome. The optimal tree topologies of Noctuoidea were given by the dataset consisting of all 13 PCGs from five families (exclude Oenosandridae). The complete mitochondrial genome of Argopecten irradians strain Zhongkehong was sequenced and annotated: it is 16,212 bp in length and contains twelve protein-coding genes (atp8 is absent, as in most species in Anisomyaria), two ribosomal RNA genes, and 21 transfer RNA genes (trnS is absent and there are two copies of trnF). The heavy strand has an overall A + T content of 57.3%; GC and AT skews are 0.249 and -0.262, respectively, indicating more Gs and more Ts than Cs and As. Phylogenetic analysis based on Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood of the twelve protein-coding genes shows that A. irradians has close relationships with A. purpuratus and A. ventricosus; this indicated that A. irradians belongs to the Pectinidae family. This study was performed to better understand the phylogenetic relationships within the lepidopteran superfamily Noctuoidea. The mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) has been extensively used for studying phylogenetic relationships at different taxonomic levels. In this study, the complete mitogenome of Spilarctia subcarnea (Noctuoidea: Erebidae) was sequenced and annotated. The mitogenome is 15,441bp in length, containing 13 typical protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs) and a noncoding control region (CR). The order and orientation of genes of S. subcarnea mitogenome with the order trnM-trnI-trnQ-nad2 is different from the ancestral insects in which trnM is located between trnQ and nad2 (trnI-trnQ-trnM-nad2). The phylogenetic relationships based on mitochondrial sequences using Bayesian inference and Maximum likelihood methods showed that S. subcarnea was closely related to Lemyra melli, supporting that S. subcarnea belongs to Erebidae. These analyses confirm that Lymantriidae should be included as subfamilies within Erebidae. The mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) can provide information for phylogenetic analyses and evolutionary biology. We sequenced, annotated, and characterized the mitogenome of Euproctis similis. The complete mitogenome is 15,437bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and a control region (A+T-rich region). The A+T content in the mitogenome was 80.16%. All PCGs use standard ATN as a start codon, with the exception of cytochrome c coxidase 1 (cox1) with CGA. A gene rearrangement (trnM) was found. All transfer RNA (tRNA) genes have a typical clover-leaf structure except for trnS1 (AGN). Phylogenetic analysis was performed using Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood based on the amino acid and nucleotide sequences of 13 mitochondrial PCGs. The well-supported phylogenetic relationships can be generally described as: Notodontidae+(Erebidae+(Nolidae+(Euteliidae+Noctuidae))). The tree support that E. similis shares a close ancestry with Erebidae insects. The mitochondrial genome (mt genome) provides important information for understanding molecular evolution and phylogeny. The further understand the molecular evolution and phylogeny of Helice tientsinensis, the complete mt genome was determined. It is 16,212bp long and includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and a control region. The genome composition of H. tientsinensis was highly A+T biased 69.0% and showed negative AT skew (-0.017) and GC skew (-0.289). One PCG, all rRNAs and 12 of the tRNAs appeared to be rearranged with respect to the pancrustacean ground pattern gene order. Tandem duplication, followed by random deletion, is widely considered to explain translocation of mitochondrial genes. Consecutive recombinations events could explain inversions of genes. The phylogenetic analyses showed that H. tientsinensis has close relationships with Eriocheir japonica sinensis, E. j. hepuensis and E. j. japonica; this indicated that H. tientsinensis belongs in the Grapsoidea, part of the Varunidae family. The mitochondrial genome (mt genome) provides important information for understanding molecular evolution and phylogenetics. As such, the two complete mt genomes of Ampelophaga rubiginosa and Rondotia menciana were sequenced and annotated. The two circular genomes of A. rubiginosa and R. menciana are 15,282 and 15,636 bp long, respectively, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and an A + T-rich region. The nucleotide composition of the A. rubiginosa mt genome is A + T rich (81.5%) but is lower than that of R. menciana (82.2%). The AT skew is slightly positive and the GC skew is negative in these two mt genomes. Except for cox1, which started with CGA, all other 12PCGs started with ATN codons. The A + T-rich regions of A. rubiginosa and R. menciana were 399 bp and 604 bp long and consist of several features common to Bombycoidea insects. The order and orientation of A. rubiginosa and R. menciana mitogenomes with the order trnM-trnI-trnQ-nad2 is different from the ancestral insects in which trnM is located between trnQ and nad2 (trnI-trnQ-trnM-nad2). Phylogenetic analyses indicate that A. rubiginosa belongs in the Sphingidae family, and R. menciana belongs in the Bombycidae family.

Gene arrangements in the mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of insects are conserved across the major lineages, but can be rearranged within derived groups and may provide valuable phylogenetic characters. In this study, we sequenced the entire mitogenome of Parasa consocia, a moth of the family Limacodidae (Lepidoptera: Zygaenoidea). Compared with other lepidopterans and ancestral insects, the P. consocia mitogenome features a transfer RNA gene arrangement novel among lepidopterans between the ND3 and ND5 genes: RANSEF (the underline signifies an inverted gene), which differs from the ARNSEF arrangement of ancestral insects. This rearrangement can be explained by the tandem duplication-random loss model. We inferred a phylogenetic hypothesis for the lepidopteran superfamily based on mitochondrial amino-acid sequences using the Bayesian-inference and maximum-likelihood methods. Our results showed that P. consocia belongs to the Zygaenoidea superfamily and supported the following phylogenetic relationship: Yponomeutoidea + (Tortricoidea + Zygaenoidea + (Papilionoidea + (Pyraloidea + (Noctuoidea + (Geometroidea + Bombycoidea)))))). Comparative analyses indicated that mitogenomes are a useful phylogenetic tool at the subfamily level within the order Lepidoptera. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Clostera anachoreta (Lepidoptera: Notodontidae) was sequenced. It comprises 15,456 base pairs (bp), including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs) and one non-coding control region (CR), as found in other lepidopterans. Gene order is identical to that of typical lepidopterans. There are 15 intergenic spacers ranging from 2 to 49bp, and 9 overlapping regions ranging from 1 to 8bp, occurring throughout the genome. The CR is 347bp long. All PCGs are initiated by ATN codons. We found a typical gene rearrangement in C. anachoreta (tRNA Met -tRNA Ile -tRNA Gln ), which is different from ancestral insects (tRNA Ile -tRNA Gln -tRNA Met ). The gene rearrangement can be explained by a duplication/random loss model. Deciphering the animal mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) is very important to understand their molecular evolution and phylogenetic relationships. In this study, the complete mitogenome of Clistocoeloma sinensis was determined. The mitogenome of C. sinensis was 15,706 bp long, and its A+T content was 75.7%. The A+T skew of the mitogenome of C. sinensis was slightly negative (-0.020). All the transfer RNA genes had the typical cloverleaf structure, except for the trnS1 gene, which lacked a dihydroxyuridine arm. The two ribosomal RNA genes had 80.2% A+T content. The A+T-rich region spanned 684 bp. The gene order within the complete mitogenome of C. sinensis was identical to the pancrustacean ground pattern except for the translocation of trnH. Additionally, the gene order of trnI-trnQ-trnM in the pancrustacean ground pattern becomes trnQ-trnI-trnM in C. sinensis. Our phylogenetic analysis showed that C. sinensis and Sesarmops sinensis cluster together with high nodal support values, indicating that C. sinensis and S. sinensis have a sister group relationship. The results support that C. sinensis belongs to Grapsoidea, Sesarmidae. Our findings also indicate that Varunidae and Sesarmidae species share close relationships. Thus, mitogenomes are likely to be valuable tools for systematics in other groups of Crustacea.

Mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) is very important to understand molecular evolution and phylogenetics. Herein, in this study, the complete mitogenome of Sesarmops sinensis was reported. The mitogenome was 15,905 bp in size, and contained 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and a control region (CR). The AT skew and the GC skew are both negative in the mitogenomes of S. sinensis. The nucleotide composition of the S. sinensis mitogenome was also biased toward A + T nucleotides (75.7%). All tRNA genes displayed a typical mitochondrial tRNA cloverleaf structure, except for the trnS1 gene, which lacked a dihydroxyuridine arm. S. sinensis exhibits a novel rearrangement compared with the Pancrustacean ground pattern and other Brachyura species. Based on the 13 PCGs, the phylogenetic analysis showed that S. sinensis and Sesarma neglectum were clustered on one branch with high nodal support values, indicating that S. sinensis and S. neglectum have a sister group relationship. The group (S. sinensis + S. neglectum) was sister to (Parasesarmops tripectinis + Metopaulias depressus), suggesting that S. sinensis belongs to Grapsoidea, Sesarmidae. Phylogenetic trees based on amino acid sequences and nucleotide sequences of mitochondrial 13 PCGs using BI and ML respectively indicate that section Eubrachyura consists of four groups clearly. The resulting phylogeny supports the establishment of a separate subsection Potamoida. These four groups correspond to four subsections of Raninoida, Heterotremata, Potamoida, and Thoracotremata.

The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Litopenaeus vannamei was determined to be 15 989 bp in size, it contains 22 tRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes and a D-loop region. The nucleotide composition was biased toward A + T nucleotides (67.8%) and the AT skew of this mitogenome was slightly negative (-0.025). All tRNA genes displayed a typical clover-leaf structure, except for trnS1 (AGN). Thirteen PCGs were initiated by ATN codons, except for cox1 gene which was initiated by ACG. Four of the 13 PCGs had the incomplete termination codon by T. The rrnL was 1371 bp and the rrnS was 853 bp, and the AT content of the combined rRNA genes was 70.9%. The D-loop region of the mitogenome was 985 bp in length and the A + T content was 82.7%, and no tandem repeat was found in this region. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the placement of L. vannamei was within the Penaeidae.

The mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) provides important information for understanding molecular evolution and phylogeny. To determine the systematic status of the family Limacodidae within Lepidoptera, we infer a phylogenetic hypothesis based on the complete mitogenome of Monema flavescens (Lepidoptera: Limacodidae). The mitogenome of M. flavescens is 15,396 base pairs (bp), and includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and a control region (CR). The AT skew of this mitogenome is slightly negative and the nucleotide composition is also biased towards A + T nucleotides (80.5%). All PCGs are initiated by ATN codons, except for the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene, which is initiated by CGA. All tRNAs display the typical clover-leaf structure characteristic of mitochondrial tRNAs, with the exception of trnS1 (AGN). The mitogenome CR is 401 bp and consists of several features common to Lepidoptera. Phylogenetic analysis using Bayesian Inference (BI) and Maximum Likelihood (ML) based on nucleotide and amino acid sequences of 13 mitochondrial PCGs indicates that M. flavescens belongs to Zygaenoidea. We obtain a well-supported phylogenetic tree consisting of Yponomeutoidea + (Tortricoidea + Zygaenoidea + (Papilionoidea + (Pyraloidea + (Noctuoidea + (Geometroidea + Bombycoidea))))).

Here we present the complete mitochondrial (mt) genome of Procambarus clarkii (Decapoda: Cambaridae) and provide its annotation. The complete mt genome was determined to be 15 929 bp and contains 22 tRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, and a D-loop region. The nucleotide composition was biased toward A + T nucleotides (72.91%) and the AT skew of this mt genome was slightly negative. All the 22 tRNA genes displayed a typical clover-leaf structure, with the exception of trnS1 (AGN). About 13 PCGs were initiated by ATN codons, except for cox1 and nad2 genes which were initiated by ACG and GTG, respectively. Six of the 13 PCGs harbor the incomplete termination codon by T or TA. The D-loop region of the mt genome was 1188 bp in length and the A + T content was 81.08%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the placement of P. clarkii was within the Cambaridae. This mt genome sequence will provide a better understanding for crayfish evolution in the future.

The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) was determined to be 15,883 bp (GenBank accession No. KM009121), which contains 22 tRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNA genes and a major non-coding A + T-rich region. It has the typical gene organization and order of mitogenomes from ancestral insects. The nucleotide composition was also biased toward A + T nucleotides (71.72%) and the AT skew of this mitogenome was slightly positive. All of the 22 tRNA genes displayed a typical clover-leaf structure, with the exception of trnS1 (AGN). Thirteen PCGs were initiated by ATN codons, except for cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene which was initiated by AAT. Eight of the 13 PCGs harbor the incomplete termination codon by T or TA. The A + T-rich region of the mitogenome was 1237 bp in length and the A + T content was 82.30%.

The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was determined to be 15,374 bp (GenBank accession No. KF543065), including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and an A + T-rich region. It has the typical gene organization and order of mitogenomes from lepidopteran insects. The AT skew of this mitogenome was slightly positive and the nucleotide composition was also biased toward A + T nucleotides (81.03%). All PCGs were initiated by ATN codons, except for cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene which was initiated by CGA. Four of the 13 PCGs harbor the incomplete termination codon by T. All the tRNA genes displayed a typical clover-leaf structure of mitochondrial tRNA, with the exception of trnS1 (AGN). The A + T-rich region of the mitogenome was 326 bp in length.

The mitochondrial (mt) genome can provide important information for the understanding of phylogenetic relationships. The complete mt genome of Plodia interpunctella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) has been sequenced. The circular genome is 15 287 bp in size, encoding 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and a control region. The AT skew of this mt genome is slightly negative, and the nucleotide composition is biased toward A+T nucleotides (80.15%). All PCGs start with the typical ATN (ATA, ATC, ATG, and ATT) codons, except for the cox1 gene which may start with the CGA codon. Four of the 13 PCGs harbor the incomplete termination codon T or TA. All the tRNA genes are folded into the typical clover-leaf structure of mitochondrial tRNA, except for trnS1 (AGN) in which the DHU arm fails to form a stable stem-loop structure. The overlapping sequences are 35 bp in total and are found in seven different locations. A total of 240 bp of intergenic spacers are scattered in 16 regions. The control region of the mt genome is 327 bp in length and consisted of several features common to the sequenced lepidopteran insects. Phylogenetic analysis based on 13 PCGs using the Maximum Likelihood method shows that the placement of P. interpunctella was within the Pyralidae.

The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Diaphania pyloalis (Lepidoptera: Pyralididae) was determined to be 15,298 bp and has the typical gene organization of mitogenomes from lepidopteran insects. It consists of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and an A+T-rich region. The A+T content of this mitogenome is 80.83% and the AT skew is slightly positive. All PCGs are initiated by ATN codons, except for cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene which is initiated by CGA. Only the cox2 gene has an incomplete stop codon consisting of just a T. All the tRNA genes display a typical clover-leaf structure of mitochondrial tRNA. The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Bombyx mori strain H9 (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) is 15,670base pairs (bp) in length, encoding 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and a control region. The nucleotide composition of the genome is highly A+T biased, accounting for 81.31%, with a slightly positive AT skewness (0.059). The arrangement of 13 PCGs is similar to that of other sequenced lepidopterans. All the PCGs are initiated by ATN codons, except for the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene, which is proposed by the TTAG sequence as observed in other lepidopterans. Unlike the other PCGs, the cox1 and cytochrome c oxidase subunit 2 (cox2) genes have incomplete stop codons consisting of just a T. All tRNAs have typical structures of insect mitochondrial tRNAs, which is different from other sequenced lepidopterans. The structure of A+T-rich region is similar to that of other sequenced lepidopterans, including non-repetitive sequences, the ATAGA binding domain, a 18bp poly-T stretch and a poly-A element upstream of transfer RNA M (trnM) gene. The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Bombyx mori strain Dazao (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) was determined to be 15,653bp, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and a A+T-rich region. It has the typical gene organization and order of mitogenomes from lepidopteran insects. The AT skew of this mitogenome was slightly positive and the nucleotide composition was also biased toward A+T nucleotides (81.31%). All PCGs were initiated by ATN codons, except for cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene which was initiated by CGA. The cox1 and cox2 genes had incomplete stop codons consisting of just a T. All the tRNA genes displayed a typical clover-leaf structure of mitochondrial tRNA. The A+T-rich region of the mitogenome was 495bp in length and consisted of several features common to the lepidopteras. The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Actias selene (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) was determined to be 15,236 bp, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and a control region. The arrangement of 13 PCGs was similar to that of other sequenced lepidopterans. The AT skew of the mitogenome of A. selene was slightly negative, indicating a higher number of T compared to A nucleotides. The nucleotide composition of the mitogenome of A. selene was also biased toward A+T nucleotides (78.91%). All PCGs were initiated by ATN codons, except for the gene encoding cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1), which may be initiated by the TTAG, as observed in other lepidopterans. Three genes, including cox1, cox2, and nad5, had incomplete stop codons consisting of just a T. With an exception for trnS1(AGN), all the other tRNA genes displayed a typical clover-leaf structure of mitochondrial tRNA. The A+T-rich region of the mitogenome of A. selene was 339 bp in length, and contains several features common to the Lepidopteras, including non-repetitive sequences, a conserved structure combining the motif ATAGA and an 18-bp poly-T stretch and a poly-A element upstream of trnM gene.
