Antimicrobial-producing, cold-adapted microorganisms have great potential for biotechnological applications in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. Pseudomonas antarctica PAMC 27494, a psychrophile exhibiting antimicrobial activity, was isolated from an Antarctic freshwater sample. Here we report the complete genome of P. antarctica PAMC 27494. The strain contains a gene cluster encoding microcin B which inhibits DNA regulations by targeting the DNA gyrase. PAMC 27494 may produce R-type pyocins and also contains a complete set of proteins for the biosynthesis of adenosylcobalamin and possibly induces plant growth by supplying pyrroloquinoline quionone molecules., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier B.V. Hymenobacter swuensis is a gamma-radiation resistant bacterium isolated from mountain soil in South Korea (N 35°51'38″, E 127°44'47″; altitude 1500m). The complete genome of H. swuensis consists of one chromosome (4,904,241bp) with three plasmids. The genomic sequence indicated that H. swuensis includes a series of genes involved in 2'-hydroxy-carotenoid biosynthesis. This is the first report describing the Hymenobacter genome and key enzymes in the 2'-hydroxy-carotenoid biosynthesis pathway. Escherichia coli AI27 is a putatively commensal strain isolated from feces of a pig. Here we report the draft genome sequence of E. coli AI27. This is the first porcine strain in the phylogenetic group B1 whose genome sequence has been determined.

An enteric bacterium, Escherichia coli W26 (KACC 16630), was isolated from feces from a healthy cow in South Korea. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of the isolate, which is closely affiliated with commensal strains belonging to E. coli phylogroup B1.

Escherichia coli J53 (F(-) met pro Azi(r)) is a derivative of E. coli K-12 which is resistant to sodium azide. This strain has been widely used as a general recipient strain for various conjugation experiments. Here, we report the genome sequence of E. coli J53 (=KACC 16628).

Mycobacterium abscessus subsp. bolletii is an increasing cause of human pulmonary disease and infections of the skin and soft tissues. Consistent reports of human infections indicate that M. bolletii is a highly pathogenic, emerging species of rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM). Here we report the first whole-genome sequence of M. abscessus subsp. bolletii BD(T).

A group of bacterial strains formerly known as CDC group M-5 are opportunistic pathogens to humans. In 1993, a name, Neisseria weaveri, was proposed by two independent studies to harbor CDC group M-5 strains, namely N. weaveri Holmes et al. 1993 and N. weaveri Andersen et al. 1993, with two different 'type' strains. However, no study has been conducted on to the relatedness of the two 'type' strains, although the close relationship of the two taxa has long been accepted unofficially. Formally, the status of the name N. weaveri Andersen et al. 1993 is illegitimate because it is a later homonym of N. weaveri Holmes et al., 1993; but the name of the strain is still validly published. In this study, we attempt to resolve the confusion caused by the apparent duplication of the species N. weaveri (with different type strains) using whole genome shotgun sequencing. We also sought to gain insight into the genetic characteristics of N. weaveri by conducting comparative genomics. On the basis of genomic similarities revealed through a comparative genomic study, we propose that N. weaveri Andersen et al. 1993 should be re-classified as a later heterotypic synonym of N. weaveri Holmes et al., 1993., (© 2011 Federation of European Microbiological Societies. Escherichia coli AA86 (=KACC 15541) is an enteric bacterium that was isolated from a sample of healthy cow feces. Its genome sequence revealed that it is most closely related to the human fecal strain E. coli SE15 and could be classified under E. coli phylogenetic group B2. Here, we report the genome sequence of E. coli AA86, consisting of 3 contigs and 2 plasmids.

Vibrio vulnificus is the causative agent of life-threatening septicemia and severe wound infections. Here, we announce the complete annotated genome sequence of V. vulnificus MO6-24/O, isolated from a patient with septicemia. When it is compared with previously known V. vulnificus genomes, the genome of this bacterium shows a unique genetic makeup, including phagelike elements, carbohydrate metabolism-related genes, and the superintegron.

Vibrio cholera, the causal agent of cholera, also occupies an autochthonous aquatic inhabitant. The current, seventh cholera pandemic is linked to O1 El Tor biotype and O139 serogroups. In the last decades, we have witnessed a shift involving genetically and phenotypically varied pandemic clones in Asia and Africa. Recent comparative genomic studies have identified a large 'mobilome', or composed of mobile genomic islands in V. cholerae. All seventh pandemic isolates have highly related genome sequences, but they can be differentiated by set of these genomic islands. A consequence of the extensive lateral gene transfer is that classically important diagnostic markers, such as serotype and biotype, are not reliable and new methods based on genomic sequences are required., (Copyright © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. Leuconostoc kimchii IMSNU 11154, isolated from kimchi, a traditional Korean fermented food, is known to be an important antimicrobial lactic acid bacterium with probiotic potential. Here we announce the complete genome sequence of L. kimchii IMSNU 11154 consisting of a 2,101,787-bp chromosome and five plasmids. The strain has genes for dextran formation from sucrose and for mannitol formation from fructose. Antimicrobial and antioxidative functions of L. kimchii IMSNU 11154 could be attributed to a leucosin B-like peptide and multiple enzymes to reduce hydrogen peroxide and oxidized thiols, respectively.
