We show that in the operational setting of a two-agent, local operations, classical communication (LOCC) protocol, Alice and Bob cannot operationally distinguish monogamous entanglement from a topological identification of points in their respective local spacetimes, i.e. that ER = EPR can be recovered as an operational theorem. Our construction immediately implies that in this operational setting, the local topology of spacetime is observer-relative. It also provides a simple demonstration of the non-traversability of ER bridges. The gravitational interaction, as described by the Einstein-Cartan theory, is shown to emerge as the by-product of the spontaneous symmetry breaking of a gauge symmetry in a pre-geometric four-dimensional spacetime. Starting from a formulation \`a la Yang-Mills on an SO(1,4) or SO(3,2) principal bundle and not accounting for a spacetime metric, the Einstein-Hilbert action is recovered after the identification of the effective spacetime metric and spin connection for the residual SO(1,3) gauge symmetry of the spontaneously broken phase - i.e. the stabiliser of the SO(1,4) or SO(3,2) gauge group. Thus, the two fundamental tenets of General Relativity, i.e. diffeomorphism invariance and the equivalence principle, can arise from a more fundamental gauge principle. The two mass parameters that characterise Einstein gravity, namely the Planck mass and the cosmological constant, are likewise shown to be emergent, with the correct sign for the cosmological constant depending on whether the fundamental gauge group is taken to be either the de Sitter or the anti-de Sitter group. The phase transition from the unbroken to the spontaneously broken phase is expected to happen close to the Planck temperature. This is conjectured to be dynamically driven by a scalar field that implements a Higgs mechanism, hence providing mass to new particles, with consequences for cosmology and high-energy physics. The couplings of gravity to matter are discussed after drawing up a dictionary that interconnects pre-geometric and effective geometric quantities. In the unbroken phase where the fundamental gauge symmetry is restored, the theory is potentially power-counting renormalisable without matter, offering a novel path towards a UV completion of Einstein gravity.

Topological quantum field theories (TQFTs) provide a general, minimal-assumption language for describing quantum-state preparation and measurement. They therefore provide a general language in which to express multi-agent communication protocols, e.g. local operations, classical communication (LOCC) protocols. In the accompanying Part I, we construct LOCC protocols using TQFT, and show that LOCC protocols induce quantum error-correcting codes (QECCs) on the agent-environment boundary. Such QECCs can be regarded as implementing or inducing the emergence of spacetimes on such boundaries. Here we investigate this connection between inter-agent communication and spacetime, exploiting different realizations of TQFT. We delve into TQFTs that support on their boundaries spin-networks as computational systems: these are known as topological quantum neural networks (TQNNs). TQNNs, which have a natural representation as tensor networks, implement QECC. We recognize into the HaPPY code a paradigmatic example. We then show how generic QECCs, as bulk-boundary codes, induce effective spacetimes. The effective spatial and temporal separations that take place in QECC enables LOCC protocols between spatially separated observers. We then consider the implementation of QECCs in BF and Chern-Simons theories, and show that QECC-induced spacetimes provide the classical redundancy required for LOCC. The unification of quantum mechanics and general relativity has long been elusive. Only recently have empirical predictions of various possible theories of quantum gravity been put to test. The dawn of multi-messenger high-energy astrophysics has been tremendously beneficial, as it allows us to study particles with much higher energies and travelling much longer distances than possible in terrestrial experiments, but more progress is needed on several fronts. A thorough appraisal of current strategies and experimental frameworks, regarding quantum gravity phenomenology, is provided here. Our aim is twofold: a description of tentative multimessenger explorations, plus a focus on future detection experiments. The physical scalar product between spin-networks has been shown to be a fundamental tool in the theory of topological quantum neural networks (TQNN), which are quantum neural networks previously introduced by the authors in the context of quantum machine learning. However, the effective evaluation of the scalar product remains a bottleneck for the applicability of the theory. We introduce an algorithm for the evaluation of the physical scalar product defined by Noui and Perez between spin-network with hexagonal shape. By means of recoupling theory and the properties of the Haar integration we obtain an efficient algorithm, and provide several proofs regarding the main steps. We investigate the behavior of the TQNN evaluations on certain classes of spin-networks with the classical and quantum recoupling. In order to reconcile the wave-function collapse in quantum mechanics with the finiteness of signals' propagation in general relativity, we delve into a stochastic version of the Ricci flow and study its non-relativistic limit in presence of matter. We hence derive the Di\'osi-Penrose collapse model for the wave-function of a quantum gas. The procedure entails additional parameters with respect to phenomenological models hitherto accounted for, including the temperature of the gas and the cosmological constant, in turn related to the stochastic gravitational noise responsible for the collapse., Comment: 14 pages

Black holes are a recently observed theoretical prediction of General Relativity, characterized by event horizons, from which information cannot escape. Examined through the lenses of quantum mechanics, they can radiate at a definite temperature inverse to their mass and horizon radius. Hawking radiation, whose spectrum was calculated considering particles scattering off black holes, is connected to the paradox of the loss of information falling into them. Information can become non-fungible, due to scrambling. We demonstrate this feature not to be restricted to curved space-times: soft radiation scattering in a flat space-time does scramble information as well. To this end, we compute the scrambling of information through the tripartite mutual information in a scattering process off a black hole and compare it with the flat space-time analog. We show that the scrambling power of the gravitational field of a black hole is negligible with respect to the scrambling power of flat space-time., Comment: 90 pages

Observable scattering processes entail emission-absorption of soft photons. As these degrees of freedom go undetected, some information is lost. Whether some of this information can be recovered in the observation of the hard photons, depends of the actual pattern of the scrambling of information. We compute the information scrambling of photon scattering by the tripartite mutual information in terms of the 2-Renyi entropy, and find a finite amount of scrambling is present. The developed procedure thus sheds novel light on the black hole information loss paradox, showing that scrambling is a byproduct of decoherence achieved by the scattering system in its interaction with the environment, due to the emission-absorption of soft photons in fully unitary processes., Comment: 23 pages, 4 figures

We couple to group field theory (GFT) a scalar field that encodes the entanglement between manifold sites. The scalar field provides a relational clock that enables the derivation of the Hamiltonian of the system from the GFT action. Inspecting the Hamiltonian, we show that a theory of emergent gravity arises, and that this can be recast according to the Ashtekar's formulation of general relativity. The evolution of the GFT observables is regulated by the Shroedinger equation generated by the Hamiltonian. This is achieved by imposing a renormalization group (RG) flow that corresponds to a simplified Ricci flow. As a consequence of the quantization procedure, the Hamiltonian is recovered to be non-Hermitian, and can be related to the complex action formalism, in which the initial conditions and the related future evolution of the systems are dictated by the imaginary part of the action., Comment: 32 pages, to appear in JHEP

Topological quantum field theories (TQFTs) provide a general, minimal-assumption language for describing quantum-state preparation and measurement. We discuss a novel window to probe the origin of our universe via the mass functions of primordial black holes (PBHs). The mass functions of PBHs are simply estimated using the conventional Press-Schechter formalism for two paradigms of cosmic origin, including inflationary $\Lambda$CDM and bounce cosmology. The standard inflationary $\Lambda$CDM model cannot generate an appreciable number of massive PBHs; however, non-trivial inflation models with blue-tilted power spectra at small scales and matter bounce cosmology provide formation mechanisms for heavy PBHs, which in turn, may seed the observed supermassive black holes (SMBHs). By fitting the SMBH mass functions at high redshift ($z \sim 6$) derived from Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and Canada-France High-z Quasar Survey (CFHQS) quasars, for two paradigms of cosmic origin, we derive constraints on the PBH density fraction $f_{\mathrm{PBH}}$ at $z \sim 6$ and the characteristic mass $M_{\star}$, with the prior assumption that all SMBHs stem from PBHs. We demonstrate that this newly proposed procedure, relying on astronomical measurements that utilize deep-field surveys of SMBHs at high redshift, can be used to constrain models of cosmic origin. Additionally, although not the main focus of this paper, we evolve the mass function from $z\sim6$ to $z\sim0$ through an assumption of $3\times 10^8$-year Eddington's accretion, and give a rough estimation of $f_{\mathrm{PBH}}$ at $z \sim 0$., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures

Pauli Exclusion Principle (PEP) violations induced by space-time non-commutativity, a class of universality for several models of Quantum Gravity, are investigated by the VIP-2 Lead experiment at the Gran Sasso underground National Laboratory of INFN. The VIP-2 Lead experimental bound on the non-commutative space-time scale $\Lambda$ excludes $\theta$-Poincar\'e far above the Planck scale for non vanishing ``electric-like" components of $\theta_{\mu \nu}$, and up to $6.9 \cdot 10^{-2}$ Planck scales if they are null. Therefore, this new bound represents the tightest one so far provided by atomic transitions tests. The mass of compact objects in General Relativity (GR), which as is well known, is obtained via the Tolman - Oppenheimer - Volkov (TOV) equations, is a well defined quantity. However, in alternative gravity, this is not in general the case. In the particular case of $f(T)$ gravity, where $T$ is the scalar torsion, some authors consider that this is still an open question, since it is not guaranteed that the same equation used in TOV GR holds. In this paper we consider such an important issue and compare different ways to calculate the mass of compact objects in $f(T)$ gravity. In particular, we argue that one of them, the asymptotic mass, may be the most appropriate way to calculate mass in this theory. We adopt realistic equations of state in all the models presented in this article.

We show in this pedagogical review that far from being "an apparent law of physics that stands by itself" (R. Bousso, Rev. Mod. Phys. 74 (2002), 825-874), the holographic principle (HP) is a straightforward consequence of the quantum information theory of separable systems. Investigations of possible violations of the Pauli Exclusion Principle represent critical tests of the microscopic space-time structure and properties. We show that the neutrino mass, the dark matter and the dark energy can be explained in a unified framework, postulating a new invisible Born-Infeld field, which we name "non-linear dark photon", undergoing a meV-scale dynamical transmutation and coupled to neutrinos. Dark energy genesis is dynamically explained as a byproduct of the dark photon condensation, inducing the bare massless neutrinos to acquire an effective mass around the meV scale. It is fascinating to contemplate the channel induced by the non-linear dark photon leading to the pairing of the non-relativistic neutrinos, hence generating a cosmological superfluid state. As a consequence, the appearance of a light neutrino composite boson is predicted, providing a good cold dark matter candidate. In particular, if our model is enriched by an extra global Lepton number $U_L(1)$ symmetry, then the neutrino pair can be identified with a composite Majoron field with intriguing phenomenological implications for the neutrinoless-double-beta-decay ($0\nu\beta\beta$). Our model carries interesting phenomenological implications since dark energy, dark matter and the neutrino mass are time-varying dynamical variables, as a consequence of the non-linear Born-Infeld interaction terms. Limits arising from PLANCK+SNe+BAO collaborations data are also discussed. We introduce novel methods for implementing generic quantum information within a scale-free architecture. For a given observable system, we show how observational outcomes are taken to be finite bit strings induced by measurement operators derived from a holographic screen bounding the system. In this framework, measurements of identified systems with respect to defined reference frames are represented by semantically-regulated information flows through distributed systems of finite sets of binary-valued Barwise-Seligman classifiers. Specifically, we construct a functor from the category of cone-cocone diagrams (CCCDs) over finite sets of classifiers, to the category of finite cobordisms of Hilbert spaces. We show that finite CCCDs provide a generic representation of finite quantum reference frames (QRFs). Hence the constructed functor shows how sequential finite measurements can induce TQFTs. The only requirement is that each measurement in a sequence, by itself, satisfies Bayesian coherence, hence that the probabilities it assigns satisfy the Kolmogorov axioms. We extend the analysis so develop topological quantum neural networks (TQNNs), which enable machine learning with functorial evolution of quantum neural 2-complexes (TQN2Cs) governed by TQFTs amplitudes, and resort to the Atiyah-Singer theorems in order to classify topological data processed by TQN2Cs. We then comment about the quiver representation of CCCDs and generalized spin-networks, a basis of the Hilbert spaces of both TQNNs and TQFTs. We finally review potential implementations of this framework in solid state physics and suggest applications to quantum simulation and biological information processing., Comment: 61 pages

A chiral-symmetric technicolor model successfully reconciles the tension between electroweak precision tests and traditional technicolor models. Focusing on its simplest realization preserving the conventional Higgs mechanism, we study its primordial gravitational wave signatures originating from first order phase transitions in the early Universe. We found that abundant phase transition patterns arise from a physically viable parameter space. Besides, we have also found gravitational wave signals possibly visible by future experiments, such as LISA, BBO and u-DECIGO. The quantization of the reduced phase-space of the Einstein-Hilbert action for gravity in $2+1D$ has been shown to bring about the emergence, at the quantum level, of a topological quantum field theory endowed with an $SU_q(2)$ quantum group symmetry structure. We hereby tackle the same problem, but start from the kinematical $SU(2)$ (quantum) Hilbert space of the theory of $2+1D$ gravity with non-zero cosmological constant in the Palatini formalism, and subsequently impose the constraints. We hence show the dynamical emergence of the $SU_q(2)$ quantum group at the quantum level within the spin-foam framework. The regularized curvature constraint is responsible for the effective representations of $SU_q(2)$ that are recovered for any Wilson loop evaluated at the $SU(2)$ group element that encodes the discretization of the space-time curvature induced by the cosmological constant. The extension to the spin-network basis, and consequently to any transition amplitude between its generic states, enables us to derive in full generality the recoupling theory of $SU_q(2)$. We provide constructive examples for the scalar product of two loop states and spin-networks encoding trivalent vertices. We further comment on the diffeomorphism symmetry generated by the implementation of the curvature constraint, and finally derive explicitly the partition function amplitude of the Turaev-Viro model., Comment: 12 Pages, 5 figures

We follow a new pathway to the definition of the Stochastic Quantization (SQ), first proposed by Parisi and Wu, of the action functional yielding the Einstein equations. Hinging on the functional similarities between the Ricci-Flow equation and the SQ Langevin equations proposed by Rumpf, we push forward a novel approach with multiplicative noise and a stochastic time that converges to the proper time of a space-like foliation in the equilibrium limit. Furthermore, we express the starting system of equations using the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) variables and their conjugated Hamiltonian momenta. Such a choice is instrumental in understanding the newly derived equations in terms of the breakdown of the diffeomorphism invariance of the classical theory, which instead will hold on average at the steady state. We comment on the physical interpretation of the Ricci flow equations, and argue how they can naturally provide, in a geometrical way, the renormalization group equation for gravity theories. In the general setting, the equation associated to the shift vector yields the Navier-Stokes equation with a stochastic source. Moreover, we show that the fluctuations of the metric tensor components around the equilibrium configurations, far away from the horizon of a Schwarzschild black hole, are forced by the Ricci flow to follow the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation, whose probabilistic distribution can yield an intermittent statistics. The exploration of the universe has recently entered a new era thanks to the multi-messenger paradigm, characterized by a continuous increase in the quantity and quality of experimental data that is obtained by the detection of the various cosmic messengers (photons, neutrinos, cosmic rays and gravitational waves) from numerous origins. They give us information about their sources in the universe and the properties of the intergalactic medium. Moreover, multi-messenger astronomy opens up the possibility to search for phenomenological signatures of quantum gravity. On the one hand, the most energetic events allow us to test our physical theories at energy regimes which are not directly accessible in accelerators; on the other hand, tiny effects in the propagation of very high energy particles could be amplified by cosmological distances. After decades of merely theoretical investigations, the possibility of obtaining phenomenological indications of Planck-scale effects is a revolutionary step in the quest for a quantum theory of gravity, but it requires cooperation between different communities of physicists (both theoretical and experimental). An unexpected explanation for neutrino mass, Dark Matter (DM) and Dark Energy (DE) from genuine Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) of the Standard Model (SM) is proposed here, while the strong CP problem is resolved without any need to account for fundamental axions. We suggest that the neutrino sector can be in a double phase in the Universe: i) relativistic neutrinos, belonging to the SM; ii) non-relativistic condensate of Majorana neutrinos. The condensate of neutrinos can provide an attractive alternative candidate for the DM, being in a cold coherent state. We study a series of powerful correspondences among new multi-gravity extensions of the Jackiw-Teitelboim model, multi-SYK models and multi-Schwarzian quantum mechanics, in the $\rm{(A)dS_{2}/CFT}$ arena. Deploying a $BF$-like formulation of the model, we discuss the counting of the degrees of freedom for some specific classes of multi-gravity potentials, and unveil connections among a variety of apparently different models. Quantization of multi-gravity models can be then achieved from both the Hartle-Hawking no-boundary proposal, the SYK partition function and the spin-foam approaches. We comment on the SYK quantization procedure, and deepen in the appendix the quantization scheme naturally achieved in the $BF$ framework. In a topological description of elementary matter proposed by Bilson-Thompson, the leptons and quarks of a single generation, together with the electroweak gauge bosons, are represented as elements of the framed braid group of three ribbons. By identifying these braids with emergent topological excitations of ribbon networks, it has been possible to encode this braid model into the framework of quantum geometry provided by loop quantum gravity. In the case of trivalent networks, it has not been possible to generate particle interactions, because the braids correspond to noiseless subsystems, meaning they commute with the evolution algebra generated by the local Pachner moves. In the case of tetravalent networks, interactions are only possible when the model's original simplicity, in which interactions take place via the composition of braids, is sacrificed. We demonstrate that it possible to preserve both the original classification of fermions, as well as their interaction via the braid product, if we embed the braid in a trivalent scheme, and supplement the local Pachner moves, with a non-local and graph changing 1-handle attachment. Moreover, we use Kauffman-Lins recoupling theory to obtain invariants of braided networks that distinguish topological configurations associated to particles in the Bilson-Thompson model., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures. v4: Improvements on exposition. Hydrodynamics knots are not only promising elementary structures to study mass and momentum transfer in turbulent flows, but also potent analogs for other topological problems arising in particle physics. However, experimental studies of knots are highly challenging due to the limited control over knot generation and difficult observation of the resulting fast-paced multiscale flow evolution. In this paper, we propose using acoustic streaming to tie hydrodynamic knots in fluids. The method is contactless, almost instantaneous and is relatively insensitive to viscosity. Importantly, it allows starting from quite arbitrary three dimensional flow structures without relying on external boundary conditions. We demonstrate our approach by using an acoustic screw dislocation to tie a knot in a sessile droplet. We observe an inversion of the knot chirality (measured by the hydrodynamic helicity) as the topological charge of the screw dislocation is increased. Combined with recent progress in acoustic field synthesis, this work opens a window to study more complex hydrodynamic knot topologies at a broader range of space and timescales.

We inspect the possibility that neutron star interiors are a mixture of ordinary matter and mirror dark matter. This is a scenario that can be naturally envisaged according to well studied accretion mechanisms, including the Bondi-Hoyle one. We show that the inclusion of mirror dark matter in neutron star models lowers the maximum neutron star mass for a given equation of state, and that it decreases the tidal deformability of a given neutron star. These general features imply that, given an equation of state, one can constrain the maximum viable amount of mirror dark matter in neutron stars in order to consistently fulfill existing maximum mass and tidal deformability constraints. Conversely, using tidal deformability measurements to rule out equations of state requires making assumptions on the amount of mirror dark matter contained in neutron stars. Finally, the presence of mirror dark matter also modifies the universal relation that links the tidal deformability of a neutron star to its compactness. The recent NANOGrav evidence of a common-source stochastic background provides a hint to Gravitational Waves (GW) radiation from the Early Universe. We show that this result can be interpreted as a GW spectrum produced from First Order Phase Transitions (FOPTs) around a temperature in the KeV-MeV window. Such a class of FOPTs at temperatures much below the electroweak scale can be naturally envisaged in several Warm Dark Matter models such as Majoron Dark Matter., Comment: More details and results on possible WDM-inspired GW spectra added, including more recent numerical tools in the subject. We discuss stringy ${\alpha'}$ corrections to the gravitational wave signal generated in the merging of two black holes. We model the merging with two BPS compact massive objects in the heterotic string, described by standard vertex operators or coherent states. We show that a generalized version of the holographic principle can be derived from the Hamiltonian description of information flow within a quantum system that maintains a separable state. We then show that this generalized holographic principle entails a general principle of gauge invariance. When this is realized in an ambient Lorentzian space-time, gauge invariance under the Poincare group is immediately achieved. We apply this pathway to retrieve the action of gravity. We report on a novel phenomenon of particle cosmology, which features specific cosmological phase transitions via quantum tunnelings through multiple vacua. The latter is inspired by the axiverse ideas and enables us to probe the associated new physics models through a potential observation of specific patterns in the stochastic gravitational waves background. Multiple vacua may induce the nucleation of co-existing bubbles over the phase transition epoch, hence enhancing the overall process of bubbles' nucleation. Our detailed analysis of semi-analytical and numerical solutions to the bounce equations of the path integral in three vacua case has enabled us to determine the existence of three instanton solutions. This new mechanism of cosmological phase transitions clearly predicts a possibly sizeable new source of gravitational waves, with its energy spectrum being featured with particular patterns, which could be probed by the future gravitational wave interferometers., Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, PLB accepted, Typos corrected

We investigate the production of primordial Gravitational Waves (GWs) arising from First Order Phase Transitions (FOPTs) associated to neutrino mass generation in the context of type-I and inverse seesaw schemes. We examine both "high-scale" as well as "low-scale" variants, with either explicit or spontaneously broken lepton number symmetry $U(1)_L$ in the neutrino sector. In the latter case, a pseudo-Goldstone majoron-like boson may provide a candidate for cosmological dark matter. We find that schemes with softly-broken $U(1)_L$ and with single Higgs-doublet scalar sector lead to either no FOPTs or too weak FOPTs, precluding the detectability of GWs in present or near future measurements. Nevertheless, we found that, in the majoron-like seesaw scheme with spontaneously broken $U(1)_L$ at finite temperatures, one can have strong FOPTs and non-trivial primordial GW spectra which can fall well within the frequency and amplitude sensitivity of upcoming experiments, including LISA, BBO and u-DECIGO. However, GWs observability clashes with invisible Higgs decay constraints from the LHC. A simple and consistent fix is to assume the majoron-like mass to lie above the Higgs-decay kinematical threshold. We also found that the majoron-like variant of the low-scale seesaw mechanism implies a different GW spectrum than the one expected in the high-scale seesaw. This feature will be testable in future experiments. We show that the asymptotic infinite dimensional enlarged gauge symmetries constructed for QED are anomalous in Dirac and Weyl semimetals. This symmetry is particularly important in particle physics for its analogy with the Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS) symmetries in gravity, as well as for its connection with QED soft IR theorems. This leads to observable effects, because of the induction of a new current in the material, which carries a memory of the BMS symmetry precursor., Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures

Exotic compact objects with physical surfaces a Planckian distance away from where the horizon would have been are inspired in quantum gravity. Most of these objects are defined by a classical spacetime metric, such as boson stars, gravastars and wormholes. We show that these classical objects are gravitationally unstable because accretion of ordinary and dark matter, and gravitational waves forces them to collapse to a black hole by the Hoop conjecture. This article sheds new light on the problem of cosmological reduction in Loop Quantum Gravity. We critically analyze Quantum Reduced Loop Gravity -- an attempt to extract the cosmological sector of the full theory. We reconsider the reduction procedure applied to the states of the kinematical Hilbert space, developing a comparative analysis with previous efforts in the literature. We show that the constraints of the model were formerly instantiated in an inconsistent fashion, leading to an overconstrained dynamics and an ill-defined Hilbert space. We then scrutinize alternative implementations of symmetry-reduction. We propose a novel mechanism for the production of gravitational waves in the early Universe that originates from the relaxation processes induced by the QCD phase transition. While the energy density of the quark-gluon mean-field is monotonously decaying in real time, its pressure undergoes a series of violent oscillations at the characteristic QCD time scales that generates a primordial multi-peaked gravitational waves' signal in the radio frequencies' domain. We propose direct tests of very high energy first-order phase transitions, which are elusive to collider physics, deploying the gravitational waves measurements. We show that first-order phase transitions lying into a large window of critical temperatures, which is considerably larger than the electroweak energy scale, can be tested from aLIGO and Einstein Telescope. This provides the possibility to probe several inflationary mechanisms ending with the inflaton in a false minimum, and high-energy first order phase transitions that are due to new scalar bosons, beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. Motivated by the recent interest in underground experiments phenomenology, we review the main aspects of one specific non-commutative space-time model, based on the Groenewold-Moyal plane algebra, the $\theta$-Poincar\'e space-time. In the $\theta$-Poincar\'e scenario, the Lorentz co-algebra is deformed introducing a non-commutativity of space-time coordinates. In such a theory, a new quantum field theory in non-commutative space-time can be reformulated. Tackling on several conceptual misunderstanding and technical mistakes in the literature, we will focus on several issues such: $i)$ the construction of fields theories in $\theta$-Poincar\'e; $ii)$ the unitarity of the S-matrix; $iii)$ the violation of locality, $iv)$ the violation of the spin statistic theorem and the Pauli principle; $v)$ the observables for underground experiments.

Future detectors could be used as a gravitational microscope to probe the horizon structure of merging black holes with gravitational waves. But can this microscope probe the quantum regime? We study this interesting question and find that (i) the error in the distance resolution is exponentially sensitive to errors in the Love number, and (ii) the uncertainty principle of quantum gravity forces a fundamental resolution limit. Thus, although the gravitational microscope can distinguish between black holes and other exotic objects, it is resolution limited well above the Planckian scale., Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure

Within the context of the Fermi-bounce curvaton mechanism, we analyze the one-loop radiative corrections to the four fermion interaction, generated by the non-dynamical torsion field in the Einstein-Cartan-Holst-Sciama-Kibble theory. We show that contributions that arise from the one-loop radiative corrections modify the energy-momentum tensor, {\it mimicking} an effective Ekpyrotic fluid contribution. For these reasons, we call this effect {\it quantum Ekpyrotic} mechanism. This leads to the dynamical washing out of anisotropic contributions to the energy-momentum tensor, without introducing any new extra Ekpyrotic fluid. We discuss the stability of the bouncing mechanism and derive the renormalization group flow of the dimensional coupling constant $\xi$, checking that any change of its sign takes place towards the bounce. This enforces the theoretical motivations in favor of the torsion curvaton bounce cosmology as an alternative candidate to the inflation paradigm., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures

We find an argument related to the existence of a Z_2-symmetry for the renormalization group flow derived from the bare Yang-Mills Lagrangian, and show that the cancellation of the vacuum energy may arise motivated both from the renormalization group flow solutions and the effective Yang-Mills action. In the framework of the effective Savvidy's action, two Mirror minima are allowed, with exactly equal and hold opposite sign energy densities. At the cosmological level, we explore the stability of the electric and magnetic attractor solutions, both within and beyond the perturbation theory, and find that thanks to these latter the cancellation between the electric and the magnetic vacua components is achieved at macroscopic space and time separations. This implies the disappearance of the conformal anomaly in the classical limit of an effective Yang-Mills theory. In this picture, the tunneling probability from the Mirror vacua to the other vacua is exponentially suppressed in the quantum non-thermal state --- similarly to what happens for electroweak instantonic tunneling solutions. Specifically, we show that, in a dynamical Friedmann-Lema\^itre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmological background, the Nielsen-Olsen argument --- on the instability of uniform chromo-electric and chromo-magnetic Mirror vacua --- is subtly violated. The chromo-magnetic and chromo-electric uniform vacua are unstable only at asymptotic times, when the attractor to a zero energy density is already reached. The two vacua can safely decay into one anisotropic vacuum that has zero energy-density. We also discover a new surprising pattern of solitonic and anti-solitonic space-like solutions, which are sourced by the Yang-Mills dynamics in FLRW. We dub such non-perturbative configurations, which are directly related to dynamical cancellation mechanism of the vacuum energy, as {\it chronons}, or $\chi$-solutions., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures; typos fixed; version accepted to Eur. Inspired by the low wave-length limit of topological M-theory, which re-constructs the theory of $3+1$D gravity in the self-dual variables' formulation, and by the realization that in Loop Quantum Gravity the holonomy of a flat connection can be non-trivial if and only if a non-trivial (space-like) line defect is localized inside the loop, we argue that non-trivial gravitational holonomies can be put in correspondence with space-like M-branes. This suggests the existence of a new duality, which we call $H$ duality, interconnecting topological M-theory with Loop Quantum Gravity. We spell some arguments to show that fundamental S-strings are serious candidates to be considered in order to instantiate this correspondence to classes of LQG states. In particular, we consider the case of the holonomy flowers in LQG, and show that for this type of states the action of the Hamiltonian constraint, from the M-theory side, corresponds to a linear combination of appearance and disappearance of a SNS1- strings. We show that the model of superfluid dark matter developed in Refs.~\cite{Khoury:2014tka,Berezhiani:2015bqa,Berezhiani:2015pia}, which modifies the Newtonian potential and explains the galactic rotational curves, can be unitarized by the formation of classical configurations in the scattering amplitudes. We propose to deploy limits that arise from different tests of the Pauli Exclusion Principle in order: i) to provide theories of quantum gravity with an experimental guidance; ii) to distinguish among the plethora of possible models the ones that are already ruled out by current data; iii) to direct future attempts to be in accordance with experimental constraints. We firstly review experimental bounds on nuclear processes forbidden by the Pauli Exclusion Principle, which have been derived by several experimental collaborations making use of different detector materials. Distinct features of the experimental devices entail sensitivities on the constraints hitherto achieved that may differ one another by several orders of magnitude. We show that with choices of these limits, renown examples of flat noncommutative space-time instantiations of quantum gravity can be heavily constrained, and eventually ruled out. We devote particular attention to the analysis of the $\kappa$-Minkowski and $\theta$-Minkowski noncommutative spacetimes. These are deeply connected to some scenarios in string theory, loop quantum gravity and noncommutative geometry. We emphasize that the severe constraints on these quantum spacetimes, although cannot rule out theories of top-down quantum gravity to whom are connected in various way, provide a powerful limitations of those models that it will make sense to focus on in the future., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, updated version accepted in CPC

We discuss how inflation can emerge from a four-fermion interaction induced by torsion. Inflation can arise from coupling torsion to Standard Model fermions, without any need of introducing new scalar particles beyond the Standard Model. Within this picture, the inflaton field can be a composite field of the SM-particles and arises from a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio mechanism in curved space-time, non-minimally coupled with the Ricci scalar. The model we specify predicts small value of the r-parameter, namely $r\sim 10^{-4} \div 10^{-2}$, which nonetheless would be detectable by the next generation of experiments, including BICEP 3 and the AliCPT projects., Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure

In this Letter we put forward a novel phenomenological paradigm in which particle physics beyond the Standard Model may be tested by radio astronomy if they are related to a first order phase transition in the early Universe. For this type of Dark Matter models, the first order phase transition takes place at KeV scales, and hence, induces the production of a stochastic gravitational wave background that can be detected from Pulsar timing measures. We demonstrate this hypothetical feasibility by studying a class of Majoron Dark Matter model, which is related to a first order phase transition of the $U(1)_{L}$ or $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry and is consequently dubbed as {\it violent Majoron}. This phenomenon are expected to be examined by the ongoing and forthcoming radio experiments, including FAST, SKA and IPTA.

We discuss possible implications of the recent detection by the LIGO and VIRGO collaboration of the gravitational-wave event GW170817, the signal of which is consistent with predictions in general relativity on the merging of neutron stars. A near-simultaneous and spatially correlated observation of a gamma-ray burst, the GRB 170817A signal, was achieved independently by the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor, and by the Anti-coincidence Shield for the Spectrometer of the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory. Motivated by this near temporal and spatial concomitance of events, which can occur by chance only with the probability $5.0 \, \times \, 10^{-8}$, we speculate on the possibility that new dark stars signals could be detected from the LIGO/VIRGO detectors. This proposal, which aims at providing a test for some models of dark matter, relies on the recent achievement of detecting, for visible ordinary matter, the merging of neutron stars both in the gravitational and the electromagnetic channel. A lack of correlation between the two expected signals would suggest a deviation from the properties of ordinary matter. Specifically, we focus on models of invisible dark matter, and in particular we study the case of mirror dark matter, within the framework of which a large amount of mirror neutron stars are naturally envisaged to occupy our dark matter halo. The observation of an electromagnetically hidden event inside the dark matter halo of our galaxy should provide a hint of new physics. There would be indeed no satisfactorily complete explanation accounting for the lack of electromagnetic signal, if only standard neutron star merging were considered to describe events that happen so close to us., Comment: Several technical details of the analysis were done, the results obtained are the same

We review (anti)evaporation phenomena within the context of quantum gravity and extended theories of gravity. The (anti)evaporation effect is an instability of the black hole horizon discovered in many different scenarios: quantum dilaton-gravity, $f(R)$-gravity, $f(T)$-gravity, string inspired black holes and brane-world cosmology. Evaporating and antievaporating black holes seem to have completely different thermodynamical features compared to standard semiclassical black holes. We examine the recently introduced idea of Spin-Field Correspondence focusing on the example of the spin system described by the XXZ Heisenberg model with external magnetic field. The Hamiltonian of the resulting nonlinear scalar field theory is derived for arbitrary value of the anisotropy parameter $\Delta$. We show that the linear scalar field theory is reconstructed in the large spin limit. For $\Delta=1$ a non-relativistic scalar field theory satisfying the Born reciprocity principle is recovered. As expected, for the vanishing anisotropy parameter $\Delta \rightarrow 0$ the standard relativistic Klein-Gordon field is obtained. Various aspects of the obtained class of the scalar fields are studied, including the fate of the relativistic symmetries and the properties of the emerging interaction terms. We show that, in a certain limit, the so-called polymer quantisation of the field variables is recovered.
