Glycemic disorder may affect the outcomes of patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). However, the association between glycemic variability (GV) and prognosis in these patients remains to be determined. We performed a meta-analysis to compressive the influence of GV on functional outcome and mortality in patients with ICH. Observational studies comparing the risks of poor functional outcome (defined as modified Rankin Scale>2) and all-cause mortality between ICH patients with higher versus lower acute GV were retrieved by systematic search of Medline, Web of Science, Embase, CNKI, and Wanfang databases. A random-effect model was used to pool the data after incorporating the between-study heterogeneity. Sensitivity analyses were performed to evaluate the stability of the findings. Eight cohort studies involving 3400 patients with ICH were included in the meta-analysis. The follow-up duration was within 3 months after admission. All of the included studies used standard deviation of blood glucose (SDBG) as the indicator of acute GV. Pumpkin starch (PS) was extracted from Cucurbita maxima and utilized to prepare films in combination with cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) and cellulose nanofiber (CNF), using a solvent casting strategy. The PS was characterized to contain 26.6% of amylose, exhibiting a “B”-type crystalline structure and high stability against thermal degradation. PS/CNF films showed better thermal stability than PS/CNC films, whereas the CNC was more effective than CNF for enhancing the tensile strength (TS) of the films. The nanocomposite films containing 1% CNC showed the highest TS of 30.32 MPa. Fourier transform infrared spectra revealed stronger hydrogen bonding in the PS/CNC films, likely contributing to the observed high mechanical strength. CNC and CNF both decreased the transparency of PS films, by 5.2% and 13.1%, respectively. Overall, the properties of PS composite films can be effectively modified by incorporating CNC and CNF, as PS/CNC films with high mechanical strength and PS/CNF films with good thermal stability. Our results indicate that PS is a suitable material for CNC/CNF composite film fabrication. These films are expected to be especially useful in food packaging applications.

Frailty was assessed by the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS). Cognitive function was evaluated by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). All participants were classified into four groups: 1) the healthy group (n=180); 2) the cognitive impairment group only (n=38); 3) the frailty group only (n=44); and 4) coexisting frailty and cognitive impairment group (n=49). The follow-up data of adverse outcomes include the incidences of new falls and new ADL dependence. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to explore the associations of frailty and/or cognitive impairment with adverse outcomes.Results: The prevalence rates of frailty, cognitive impairment, and co-occurring frailty with cognitive impairment were 29.9%, 28%, and 15.8%, respectively. Among these four groups, there was a statistical difference in the incidence of new ADL dependence during the follow-up period (9.5% vs 11.4% vs 35.9% vs 61.9%, P < 0.001). After adjusting the confounding variables, older hospitalized patients with frailty and cognitive impairment had a higher risk of new ADL dependence when compared with the healthy group (OR: 4.786, 95% CI: 1.492– 15.355), but frailty only or cognitive impairment only was not associated with new ADL dependency.Conclusion: Elderly inpatients with comorbid frailty and cognitive impairment on admission were significantly associated with an increased risk of new ADL dependency 1 year after discharge. Background The three-dimensional (3D) printing technology has remarkable potential as an auxiliary tool for representing anatomical structures, facilitating diagnosis and therapy, and enhancing training and teaching in the medical field. As the most available diagnostic tool and it is routinely used as the first approach in diagnosis of the uterine anomalies, 3D transvaginal ultrasonography (3D-TVS) has been proposed as non-invasive “gold standard” approach for these malformations due to high diagnostic accuracy. Despite holding promise of manufacturing 3D printed models based on 3D-TVS data, relevant reports about 3D-TVS derived gynecological 3D printing haven’t been reported to the best of our knowledge. We found an opportunity to explore the feasibility of building 3D printed models for the abnormal uterus based on the data acquired by 3D-TVS. Methods The women suspected with congenital uterine anomalies (CUAs) were enrolled in the study. The diagnose of CUAs were made by 3D-TVS scanning and further confirmed under the hysteroscopy examination. One volunteer with normal uterus was enrolled as control. All subjects underwent 3D-TVS scanning for 3D printing data collection. Acquired images were stored and extracted as DICOM files, then processed by professional software to portray and model the boundary of the uterine inner and outer walls separately. After the computer 3D models were constructed, the data were saved and output as STL files for further surface restoration and smoothing. The colors of endometrium and uterine body were specified, respectively, in the print preview mode. Then the uncured photosensitive resin was cleaned and polished to obtain a smooth and transparent solid model after printed models were cooled down. Results 3D printing models of normal uterus, incomplete septate uterus, complete septate uterus, uterus didelphys and unicornuate uterus were produced on ultrasonographic data of 3D-TVS. Conclusions Our research and practice made the first try in modeling CUAs successfully based on ultrasonographic data entirely, verifying that it’s a feasible way to build 3D printed models of high-quality through 3D-TVS scanning.

We have obtained an exopolysaccharide (YL-11 EPS) produced by Lactobacillus fermentum YL-11 isolated from fermented milk and confirmed that it can effectively inhibit colon cancer HT-29 cells proliferation in vitro. The aim of this study is to study anti-colon cancer effect in vivo and its possible mechanisms. Animal assays indicated YL-11 EPS treatment significantly suppressed the growth of HT-29 tumor xenograft without exhibiting obvious negative effects on normal cells. Cell experiments demonstrated YL-11 EPS treatment up regulated the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 and induced the decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential and improved the expression of cleaved caspases-3 and cleaved PARP proteins, and finally induced HT-29 cells apoptosis, suggesting the involvement of mitochondrial pathway. Moreover, YL-11 EPS can block the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and arrest the cell cycle in G1-phase to exert its anti-colon cancer activity. Overall, YL-11 EPS can be explored as a potential nutraceutical to prevent colorectal cancer.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can induce apoptosis by releasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species, which cause mitochondrial damage. The present study aimed to investigate the protective effects of flavonoids from the leaves of Carya cathayensis Sarg. against H2O2-induced oxidative damage and apoptosis in vitro. The bioactivity of total flavonoids (TFs) and five monomeric flavonoids [cardamonin (Car), pinostrobin chalcone, wogonin, chrysin and pinocembrin] from the leaves of Carya cathayensis Sarg. (LCCS) were tested to prevent oxidative damage to rat aortic endothelial cells (RAECs) induced by H2O2. Oxidated superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, malondialdehyde, lactate dehydrogenase and ROS were analyzed to evaluate the antioxidant activity. Gene and protein expression patterns were assessed using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blotting, respectively. The results indicated that TFs and Car inhibited H2O2-induced cytotoxicity and apoptosis of RAECs. Additionally, they regulated the level of oxidase and inhibited the production of ROS. Overall, the TFs extracted from LCCS could potentially be developed as effective candidate drugs to prevent oxidative stress in the future; moreover, they could also provide a direction in investigations for preventing antioxidant activity through the ROS pathway.

Pumpkin polysaccharides have arrested researchers' attention in fields of food supplements for healthy product and traditional Chinese medicine due to their multiple bioactivities with non-toxic and highly biocompatible. This review emphatically summarized recent progresses in the primary and spatial structural features, various bioactivities, structure-to-function associations, different preparation techniques, and absorption characteristics across intestinal epithelial and in vivo bio-distribution of pumpkin polysaccharides. Additionally, current challenges and future trends in development of pumpkin polysaccharides were pointed out. We found that pumpkin polysaccharides were primary structure (e.g. glucan, galactoglucan, galactomannan, galactan, homogalacturonan (HG), and rhamnogalacturonan-Ι (RG-Ι)) and special structure diverse (e.g. hollow helix, linear, and sphere-like) and significant functional foods or therapeutic agents (e.g. oral hypoglycemic agents). Moreover, we found that the molecular weight (Mw), uronic acid, linkage types, and modifications all could affect their bioactivities (e.g. anti-oxidant, anti-coagulant, and anti-diabetic activities), and pumpkin polysaccharides may across intestinal epithelial into the blood reaching to target organs. Collectively, the structures diversity and pharmacological values of pumpkin polysaccharides support their therapeutic potentials and sanitarian functions.

Herein, field experiment trials were conducted at two different sites (Heilongjiang and Hubei Province) in China to determine the residual levels and dissipation kinetics of metalaxyl-M in rice grains, and paddy soil and water. A modified quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe "QuEChES" method coupled with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was developed for determination of metalaxyl-M residual levels in different matrices. The method showed an excellent linear response (R2 > 0.99) over the concentration range of 0.01-0.50 mg kg-1 with satisfactory recovery rates in between 76.00 and 111.36%. The limits of quantification (LOQ) were estimated to be 0.010 mg kg-1 for all matrices. Half-lives of 0.27 to 10.83 days in rice plant, paddy soil, and water indicate that the analyte is easily degraded in the environment within a relatively short time. The terminal residues of metalaxyl-M in rice husks and rice grains were less than 0.05 mg kg-1. Dietary risk assessment showed that harvested rice treated with metalaxyl-M would not pose unreasonable risk to humans or the environment.

Chitosan and its derivatives can be used to modify magnetic materials to promote the adsorption properties of the magnetic materials for the removal of meal ions. In this study a novel CSB@Fe3O4 was prepared, characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, and VSM analysis and utilized as an adsorbent material for the removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solution. Batch studies were performed to evaluate the influences of various experimental parameters like pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, initial concentration, and the effect of temperature. Optimum conditions for Pb(II) removal were found to be pH 5, adsorbent dosage 0.5g and equilibrium time of 105min. The pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion models were used to analyze kinetic data. The data fit well with the second-order kinetic model. The equilibrium data were analyzed using the Langmuir, and Freundlich isotherm models. The best interpretation for the equilibrium data was given by Langmuir isotherm, and the maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 83.33mg/g for CSB@Fe3O4. The calculated thermodynamic parameters ΔG°(-9.728, -9.034 and -7.883kJ/mol for 303, 313, and 323K), ΔH° (20.39kJ/mol) and ΔS° (0.0947J/molK) showed that the adsorption of Pb(II) ions were feasible, spontaneous and endothermic in nature.

Metal ions cause a serious public health problem. It is a great challenge to find an effective and efficient adsorbent to remove heavy metals from wastewater. Chitosan-based adsorbents are potential and effective for heavy metal ion removal. Hence a novel m-ECCSB was synthesized, characterized and utilized as an adsorbent for the removal of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solution. Various factors affecting the uptake behavior such as pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, initial concentration of Cu(II) and temperature effect were investigated. Maximum adsorption capability (123.10 mg/g) was obtained at pH = 6, adsorbent dose of = 250 mg, rotational speed = 200 rpm, contact time = 60 min, and temperature of 323 K. The result of the kinetic study shows that the adsorption of Cu(II) could be described by the pseudo-second-order equation. Equilibrium data were analysed with the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherms and Langmuir model was found to provide the best fit of the experimental data. The thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption of Cu(II) onto m-ECCSB was spontaneous (ΔG° = −8.990, −10.00 and −10.593 kJ/mol), endothermic (ΔH° = 15.674, 15.478 and 15.699 kJ/mol) and ΔS° (0.0814 J/mol K) suggests an increased randomness at the solid/solution interface under the studied conditions.

Bupivacaine has been shown to induce neurotoxicity through inducing excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. NOX2 is one of the most important sources of ROS in the nervous system, and its activation requires the membrane translocation of subunit p47phox. However, the role of p47phox in bupivacaine-induced neurotoxicity has not been explored. In our in vitro study, cultured human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells were treated with 1.5 mM bupivacaine to induce neurotoxicity. Membrane translocation of p47phox was assessed by measuring the cytosol/membrane ratio of p47phox. The effects of the NOX inhibitor VAS2870 and p47phox-siRNA on bupivacaine-induced neurotoxicity were investigated. Furthermore, the effect of VAS2870 on bupivacaine-induced neurotoxicity was assessed in vivo in rats. All these changes were reversed by pretreatment with VAS2870 or transfection with p47phox-siRNA in SH-SY5Y cells. Similarly, pretreatment with VAS2870 attenuated bupivacaine-induced neuronal toxicity in rats. It is concluded that enhancing p47phox membrane translocation is a major mechanism whereby bupivacaine induced neurotoxicity and that pretreatment with VAS2870 or local p47phox gene knockdown attenuated bupivacaine-induced neuronal cell injury.

The utilization of CS/PVA/CuO as a novel adsorbent for the removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solution has been examined in a batch adsorption process with several experimental conditions including initial solution pH, dose, contact time, initial metal ion concentration, and temperature. The new and novel material was characterized by structural (XRD), spectral (FTIR), morphological with elemental (SEM with EDS), and size of the nanoparticles (TEM) analyses. The pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion kinetics equations were used to analyze the kinetic data of the adsorption process and the data was fitted well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model with R2 values (close to the unity). Equilibrium isotherms for the adsorption of Pb(II) were analyzed by the Langmuir, Freundlich, and D-R isotherm models. The best interpretation for the equilibrium data was given by Langmuir isotherm, and the maximum adsorption capacity was 116.84 mg/g at pH 5, and adsorbent dose of 100 mg at 323 K. Different thermodynamic parameters namely, Gibbs free energy change (-8.436, −9.167 and −9.723 kJ/mol for 303, 313 and 323 K respectively), enthalpy change (11.61, 11.52 and 11.62 kJ/mol), and entropy change (0.0661 J/mol k), were also evaluated from the temperature dependence, and the results suggest that the adsorption reaction is spontaneous and endothermic in nature.

Collaborative filtering has been widely used in recommendation systems to recommend items that users might like. However, collaborative filtering based recommendation systems are vulnerable to shilling attacks. Malicious users tend to increase or decrease the recommended frequency of target items by injecting fake profiles. In this paper, we propose a Kalman filter-based attack detection model, which statistically analyzes the difference between the actual rating and the predicted rating calculated by this model to find the potential abnormal time period. The Kalman Filter filters out suspicious ratings based on the abnormal time period and identifies suspicious users based on the source of these ratings. The experimental results show that our method performs much better detection performance for the shilling attack than the traditional methods.

Biomass is an important renewable energy and making hydrogen-rich syngas from biomass is promising. Dual fluidized bed gasification technology can increase hydrogen content in the syngas. Moreover, steam gasification of biomass coupled with lime-based CO2 capture in a dual fluidized bed can further improve the syngas quality . This paper established a dual fluidized bed gasification model using Aspen plus,in order to explore the effect of different gasification temperatures and steam to biomass ratios on hydrogen content in syngas, providing a theoretical basis for the optimization of operating parameters and process.

Treatment against bacterial infection is crucial for wound healing. Development of cost-effective antibacterial agent with wound healing properties is still in high demand. In this study we aimed to design chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol)/zinc oxide (CS/PVA/ZnO) beads as novel antibacterial agent with wound healing properties. CS/PVA/ZnO beads were synthesized, and characterized by using XRD, FTIR, SEM, and TEM analysis. Pure chitosan exhibits two peaks at 2θ=10 and 20 and the CS/PVA polymer matrix exhibit the peaks at 2θ=19.7° and another of low intensity at 2θ=11.5°. Pure ZnO shows the characteristic peaks at (100), (002), (101), (102), (110), (103), (200), and (112) that were in good agreement with wurtzite ore having hexagonal lattice structure. The antibacterial activity of CS/PVA/ZnO against Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus were evaluated with the zone of inhibition method. Antibacterial activity of CS/PVA/ZnO was higher than that of chitosan (CS) and poly(vinyl alcohol (PVA). Hemocompatibility and biocompatibility of CS/PVA/ZnO were tested in in vitro. Wound healing properties of CS/PVA/ZnO were tested in mice skin wound. CS/PVA/ZnO showed strong antimicrobial, wound healing effect, hemocompatibility and biocompatibility. Hence the results strongly support the possibility of using this novel CS/PVA/ZnO material for the anti bacterial and wound healing application.

The effects of xanthan gum on the release of strawberry flavor compounds in formulated soy protein isolate (SPI) beverage were investigated by headspace gas chromatography (GC). To confirm that aneuploidy candidate genes are detectable in the first polar body (PB(1)) of MII oocytes and to investigate the age-dependent molecular changes in PB(1).Aged (12-to 15-mo-old) and young (2-mo-old) mice were administered pregnant mare's serum gonadotropin (PMSG) and human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG). MII oocytes were obtained and the first PB was removed. mRNA from each PB and its sibling oocyte was reverse transcribed. Real-time PCR was performed to quantify the expression of six genes (BUB1, CDC20, Filia, MCAK, SGOL1, SMC1A) in single PB.We first demonstrated that detection and quantification of transcripts associated with aneuploidy in single mouse oocyte and sibling PB(1) is possible and the relative abundance of mRNA transcripts in a single PB faithfully reflects the relative abundance of that transcript in its sibling oocyte. We further found that transcript levels were significantly lower in aged PBs compared with young PBs (P0.05).Our results suggest that the detection and analysis of polar body mRNA may provide insight in age-related aneuploidy in oocyte. This analysis is a novel concept to investigate the genesis of chromosome abnormality and could potentially assist in the characterization of mechanisms underlying key molecular origin of female meiotic aneuploidy, which would be of great scientific and clinical value.

A series of functionalized 2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazines were obtained in moderate to excellent yields via domino [5 + 1] annulations of 2-halo-1,3-dicarbonyl compounds 2 with imines 1 under mild conditions and the application of this method in the synthesis of bioactive analogues, such as functionalized tetracyclic-1,4-benzoxazines which contain two new heterocyclic rings and one quaternary carbon center has also been developed.
