The recent increasing incidence of human monkeypox cases highlights the necessity of early detection, prompt response and preventive management to stop it in its tracks, and healthcare workers play the most crucial role here. This study aims at assessing the preparedness of Bangladeshi medical doctors by assessing their knowledge and attitude regarding monkeypox.This cross-sectional study was conducted among the practicing medical doctors all over Bangladesh. The data was collected from 26th May to 4th June of 2022 using a semi-structured and self-administered questionnaire which was distributed through the internet, and a total of 389 data was collected. The cut-off points for defining good knowledge and positive attitude towards human monkeypox were considered as 70% and 80% of total values, respectively. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were carried out to identify the factors associated with good knowledge and a positive attitude. Statistical software R version 4.2.0 was used for data analysis.Of all, 330 (84.83%) doctors displayed a positive attitude towards preventive practices, but only 119 (30.59%) participants had good knowledge regarding monkeypox. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, getting any information about monkeypox in the medical curriculum and learning about monkeypox within the last one month had a significant association with good knowledge. Apart from the participant's age, no other variables revealed any significant association with a positive attitude toward preventive practices. Good knowledge showed a significant association with positive attitude (p 0.05).Knowledge regarding human monkeypox among medical doctors in Bangladesh was comparatively lower than the attitude towards its preventive measures. Developing and implementing practical sessions regarding the virus to enhance the knowledge and capacity of the medical doctors could be an effective strategy to get prepared for the monkeypox outbreak in Bangladesh.

Background: Autism spectrum disorders (ASD), a neurodevelopmental deficit, is often associated with epilepsy. Previous literature suggested that ASD and epilepsy share a common pathophysiological basis. Considering the scarcity of studies regarding ASD in children with epilepsy, this study was conducted with an aim to evaluate the association of ASD with epilepsy. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was conducted in the Department of Pediatric Neurology, Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder and Autism, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, from September’ 2018 to December 2019. In total, 68 epileptic children, age ranged from five to 16 years, were enrolled as case. Similar number of non-epileptic, age, sex and socio-demographic status matched children were enrolled as control. Parent, teacher and self version of Bangla Development and Well-Being Assessment were used to assess the psychiatric disorders particularly ASD and diagnosis was assigned as Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V). Results: The mean age of cases and controls were 9.66±3.13 and 9.26±3.11 years respectively with slight male predominance in both groups (64.7 and 57.35%, respectively). Background: Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) has a high prevalence in critically ill neonates. In suspicion of DIC based on abnormal coagulation parameter is a common trigger to transfuse fresh frozen plasma (FFP), even in absence of bleeding. In past years, use of FFP has increased and has expanded to include prophylactic use in neonates especially in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) as it contains several coagulation factors. Several studies suggest that, prophylactic use of FFP has no role to prevent bleeding in disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), but carries increase risk of transfusion related mortality and morbidity. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of prophylactic use of FFP in critically ill neonate to prevent bleeding in DIC. Methods: This randomized, open-label, blinded end-point study was conducted in Bangladesh Institute of Child Health and Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital from July, 2019 to June, 2021. Term, critically ill neonates who had underlying disease, suspected to develop DIC were conveniently selected. Later, they were randomly allocated using software in intervention group, who received 10 ml/kg of FFP along with standard management and control group, who received only standard management. Coagulation parameters were checked before and 24 hour after intervention in both groups. Outcome was occurrence of bleeding as a indicator of DIC. Results: The mean age was 8.55 ± 3.5 days in intervention and 8.92 ± 6.1 days in control group. Male patients were predominant. There was no significant difference in baseline characteristics between two groups. The difference of mean ± SD of coagulation parameters between two groups were nonsignificant before intervention. Even after FFP transfusion, DIC developed among 40.1% neonates in intervention and without FFP transfusion among 48.9% neonates in control group without any significant difference (P-value >0.05). Background: In Bangladesh, Acute hepatitis is seen sporadically round the year. On the other the other hand, the incidence of acute viral hepatitis E increases after floods as this allows sewerage contamination of piped and groundwater. Objective: In this study our main goal is to evaluate the demographic & Clinical Profile Analysis of Acute Viral Hepatitis E Patients in Bangladesh. Method: This prospective observational study was conducted in the Department of Gastroenterology, US-Bangla Medical College & Hospital during the period from July 2018 to June 2019, in Bangladesh. A total of 35 patients who were attending the Hepatology unit with acute viral hepatitis were included as the study population for this study. By enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, all viral markers were tested. Results: Majority, 34.4% belong to 21-30 year’s age group, and 81.3% were male. Positive cases of Anti HAV IgM were 10% followed by Anti HEV IgM seen in 100%, however, none of the Anti HCV IgM seen in patients. Higher serum bilirubin was 8.82±5.65. Followed by Levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) was 1141.00±128.69, S.GPT ALT was 1380.75±751.28, S. Creatinine was10.00±18.33. Moreover, Prothrombin Time was seen longer in patients. Which means patient’s needs higher blood clotting time than usual. Conclusion: Acute viral hepatitis E is the leading cause of wide spectrum of liver disease in young male adults ranging from severe acute viral hepatitis, to decompensation of liver in cirrhotic in Bangladesh.

Background: Covid-19 pandemic era introduce E-learning process in education system all over the world include medical science. Repeated researches should be conducted to explore the limitations and combat with the challenges of the E-learning process as well as find out the methods of suitable medical education system for future. Method: A cross-sectional study was performed among 334 MBBS (n = 114, 34.3%) and BDS (n = 218; 65.7%) students of four selected private Medical and Dental colleges in Bangladesh to reveal the perception of the students towards E-learning during the COVID-19 outbreak. Data was collected through an online platform using the snowball sampling technique in between October 2021 to March 2022. Result: Most of the participants use mobile phones (n = 308, 92.8%) and Wi-Fi connections (n = 153, 46.1%) for online classes. Majority of the participants had negative perception regarding E-learning. In addition, most of the participants responded that, E-learning is not better than traditional teaching (n = 292, 88%), the quality of E-learning is not satisfactory (n = 198, 59.6%), the usefulness of E-teaching regarding clinical and practical demonstrations is not satisfactory (n = 284, 85.5%), and the blend of E-learning will be beneficial in the future (n = 224, 67.5%), where female students (p = 0.049) and BDS students (p = 0.003) gave a more positive response in comparison to male students and MBBS students. BDS students gave more positive response about the satisfaction in quality of E-learning rather than MBBS students (p= 0.003). MBBS students significantly responded more negatively than did BDS students (p = 0.003) regarding student-teacher interactions during the e-learning process. Conclusion: Students adjusted themselves with the E-learning techniques but they believe that blending of E-learning, which combines both classroom and distance learning will be beneficial for them in future. This study evaluated the status of the well-being of wild Nandus nandus in the Kawadighi Haor through morphometric and gastrointestinal indices and local people’s perceptions. Basic macroscopic morphology of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), the viscera somatic index (VSI), the hepatosomatic index (HSI), the condition factor (K), length–weight relationships, and gut histology were analyzed from the regular commercial catch. The GIT morphology includes a tube-like esophagus, a tapering stomach, a tubular intestinal region, and a rectum, all of which have clinically normal shapes and conditions. VSI and HSI values fluctuate throughout the year, indicating the periodic variation of food content and availability in the ecosystem. The condition factor (K) was generally stable, with minor deviations in December. The mucosa, submucosa, muscularis, and serosa were identified from the stomach of N. nandus and showed normal histological characteristics. There were numerous proliferated villi in the tunica mucosa, but no histopathological abnormalities were found in the gut. These findings suggest that the current population of N. nandus in the Haor is in a favorable condition. However, local people reported some potential threats that might be a concern for the long-term survival of this species. The results of the present study will be useful for effective and sustainable stock management of the N. nandus fishery in the Kawadighi Haor and other floodplain ecosystems.

The current paper examines the aetiology of persecution committed against the Rohingya in Myanmar from a criminological perspective. Criminological theories focusing on one level of analysis may not fully explain the incidents concerning the systematic implementation of policies of persecution against the Rohingya for decades. Thus, the author scrutinizes the factors which are involved in the aetiology of persecution at three different levels: macro (national), meso (organizational) and micro (local community and individual) within four dynamics – namely, motivation, opportunity, control and constraint. This paper employs the case study method and collects data through focus group discussions with the Rohingya in the Kutupalong refugee camp in the Cox’s Bazar region of Bangladesh. It limits its analysis to the data that covers the events of persecution against the Rohingya in Myanmar, such as revocation of their citizenship, deprivation of their fundamental rights, and different forms of atrocity crimes, from 1962 to 2019. It reveals that, despite the heterogeneity of the actions that led to atrocity crimes against the Rohingya, the military leaders in charge of Myanmar (and somewhat Myanmar’s civilian government), military personnel and other security force members, paramilitaries and vigilantes played various roles in the perpetration of such crimes.

The goal of the current investigation was to determine correlation coefficient, path analysis and genetic variability among twenty four maize hybrids for ten characters in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications at the research field of Plant Breeding Division, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Barisal, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Bangladesh during rabi season of 2014-15. The measured traits were Days to 50% tasseling (DT), days to 50% silking (DS), anthesis silking interval (ASI), plant height (PH), ear height (EH), days to maturity (DM), cob length (CL), cob diameter (CD), thousand seed weight (TSW) and yield(yield t/ha). Here yield was considered as dependent variable and the rest of the parameters were independent variable. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and mean values were compared by DMRT test at both 5% and 1% of probability. Positive and significant genotypic, phenotypic correlation coefficient were recorded for yield with cob diameter (rg=0.75**, rp=0.61**), cob length (rg=0.66**and rp=0.42**), plant height (rg=0.62**and rp=0.55**), ear height (rg=0.66**and rp=0.55**) and thousand seed weight (rg=0.36**and rp=0.44**). High genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) was obtained from anthesis silking interval (17.26), yield (15.17), ear height (13.80) and thousand seed weight (9.43). The highest phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) were observed in anthesis silking interval (26.49) followed by yield (20.51), ear height (16.19) and the lowest in days to maturity (0.70). The difference between GCV and PCV of yield indicated that the characters had some environmental influence. The highest heritability was observed for plant height (73.78) followed by ear height (72.67), thousand seed weight (59.52) and days to maturity (55.97) but the lowest heritability identified for days to silking (18.98). The characters with higher values of GCV and heritability of the aforementioned traits were indicative for selection. The plant height had the highest positive direct effect (1.34) on yield followed by days to silking (0.75), cob diameter CD (0.46) and thousand seed weight (0.41), days to maturity (0.21) and cob length (0.20) indicating the effectiveness of direct selection. Direct negative effect on yield was shown by ear height (-1.03), days to tasseling (-0.52) and anthesis silking interval (-0.50) was indicating the effectiveness of indirect selection.

Aims: Transplant (T) aman is occupying a major portion of rice based cropping system in Sylhet region, Bangladesh. Still majority of farmers are circled to cultivate local T. aman rice cultivars, but the overall yield is very low. Agronomic management can be a good option to boost up the yield potential of these local cultivars. This study was conducted to observe the influence of planting geometry on the yield of local aman cultivars. Study Design: Randomized complete block design. Place and Duration of Study: The experiment was conducted to find out optimum plant density of local cultivars of T. aman rice during the period from August 2017 to December 2017 at farmer’s field located at Jointapur, Sylhet. Methodology: The study were replicated thrice in randomized complete block design considering four rice cultivars viz. Beruin (V1), Moinasail (V2), Nagrasail (V3) and, BRRI dhan49 (Control, check variety) (V4) and four plant spacings viz. (15 × 15) cm (S1), (20 × 15) cm (S2), (20 × 20) cm (S3) and (20×25) cm (S4). Results: The results indicated that the highest grain yield were recorded in (2.65 t ha-1) in the variety V4, which was statistically similar with V3 (2.60 t ha-1). The highest grain yield (2.87 t ha-1) was obtained (V4 × S4) while the lowest (1.58 t ha-1) from (V1 × S1). Among the local varieties highest grain yield (2.64 t ha-1) recorded in (V3 × S4) which was statistically similar (V4 × S4). Conclusion: Outcomes of the study revealed that Nagrasail (V3) with (20 × 25) cm plant spacing is a promising option, and isthe best one for local T. aman cultivar cultivation in Sylhet region.

Background: Rapid tracheal extubation after cardiac surgery is not novel. "Fast-track management" has gained popularity in recent years, and the provision of cost-effective treatment is now included in with other factors as a means of assessing the success of various surgical procedures. Objective: In this study our main goal is to evaluate the effect of Analgesia in fast track pediatric cardiac patient. Method: This retrospective study was done at Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute, Bangladesh, from January 2021 to January 2022. A total of 100 patients considered suitable for fast-track care were selected prior to surgery. The criteria for the selection of fast-track patients included low- risk cardiac surgery and the absence of other associated complex defects, either a weight over 10 kg or at least 6 months of age, the absence of complex non-cardiac issues and no significant history of repeat chest infections or obstructive airway disease. Results: during the study, mean age group was 5.7 years, followed by 55 cases were male, mean weight was 15.5 kg. 50% had a trial septal defect followed by 15% Ventricular septal defect, 11% Partial anomalous pulmonary, 9% congenital sabaortic stenosis, 10% had Atrioventricular septal defect. While reviewing post-operative faces pain score in day-1, 15% had no hurts followed by 60% had hurts a little bit, 10% had hurts more, 5% had hurts even more, 5% had hurts whole lot, 5% had hurts worst In day-2 25% had no hurts, 50% had hurts a bit, 12% had hurts a little more, 6% had hurts even more. In day-3 40% had no hurts, 40% had hurts a little bit, 20% had hurts little more. However, in day-4 15% had hurts little bit and 10% had hurts little more. In addition, 90% of the patients had between excellent and satisfactory analgesia. Moreover, 48% had vomiting and 2% had itching. Background: By allowing patients to be extubated from their ventilators in the intensive care unit (ICU) as soon as they have stabilized, fast-track anesthesia (FTA) hastens the return to full awareness and independent breathing after surgery. Objective: In this study our main goa is to evaluate the role of fast track extubation in enhance recovery after pediatric cardiac surgery. Method: This prospective study was carried out at tertiary hospital from January 2021 from January 2022 where total of 200 CHD children, aged 6 months to 2 years and admitted to tertiary hospital, were selected for this study. During the study, 200 patients were randomly divided into two groups each consisting of 100 patients, and were subjected to fast track anesthesia and conventional anesthesia before surgeries. Results: During the study, in fast track anesthesia group mean age was 1.2 ± 0.5 years, followed by 55 cases were female, 47 were preterm patients, mean anesthesia times was 3.5 ± 1.2 h, mean surgery time was 295.1 ± 22.9 min, mean CPB time was 47.2 ± 11.8, mean block time or a total allocated amount of time for a surgeon was 30.2 ± 8.9. whereas in conventional anesthesia group, mean age was 1.1 ± 0.5 years, followed by 40 cases were female, 45 were preterm patients, mean anesthesia times was 3.2 ± 1.0 h, mean surgery time was 288.0 ± 20.5 min, mean CPB time was 46.2 ± 10.7, mean block time was 31.5 ± 9.1. in fast track group mean extubation time was 22.9 ± 3.5 min followed by mean postoperative hospital stay was 11.5 ± 3.0 days, besides that, at extubation SAS score was 3.8 ± 0.6a and 24h post operation SAS score was 4.0 ± 0.5. Whereas in conventional group mean extubation time was 189.1 ± 31.2 min followed by mean postoperative hospital stay was 16.1 ± 2.4, besides that, at extubation SAS score was 4.8 ± 0.7and 24h post operation SAS score was 3.9 ± 0.5. Background: Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) are the number one cause of death globally. More people die annually from CVDs than from any other cause. An estimated 17.5 million people died from CVDs in 2012, representing 31% of all global deaths. Good knowledge and practice is required for prevention and control of myocardial infarction. Objective: To assess knowledge and practice of hypertensive patients regarding prevention of myocardial infarction. Methods: A cross-sectional hospital based study was conducted at Cardiology Dept. Islami Bank community Hospital Faridpur and 250 Bedded General Hospital, Gopalgonj, Bangladesh January to June 2021. Among 100 hypertensive patients were included. Purposive sampling method was used to select calculated number of study participants. Data was collected by interview method using structured questionnaire and descriptive and inferential statistics was used to analyze the data. Results: Total 100 hypertensive respondents, more than half (54.0%) had high level of knowledge whereas 46.0% had low level of knowledge regarding prevention of MI. Similarly, 56.0% had good practice and were taking the appropriate preventive measures of MI, though, 44.0% had poor practice. This study revealed that knowledge level was significantly (P=0.002) higher among female (73.2%) than to male (43.2%). This study found significant association of knowledge with gender, education and socio-economic status. In the same manner, there was significant association of practice with awareness of disease. Conclusion: Heart disease is a significant problem among adult population. So assessing the knowledge regarding preventive heart disease could be the effective measure to prevent heart disease. Thus, further awareness regarding prevention of MI needs to be provided to hypertensive patients and large scale study should be planned to identify the determinants of knowledge and practice of prevention of MI among hypertensive patients.

Background: Ureteric stone disease is a common urological problem throughout the world. Treatment of ureteral stones depends on stone size, composition and degree of obstruction, pain, presence of infection, single kidney and abnormal ureteral anatomy. The aim of the present study is to evaluate and compare in situ ESWL and URS with pneumatic lithotripsy in terms of Stone clearance, duration of procedural time, duration of hospital stay and complications (fever, haematuria, ureteral injury, stone migration, stone clearance, steinstrasse, UTI, ureteral perforation). Methods: A total of 80 patients were included in the study. 42 of them enrolled in ESWL group and 38 in pneumatic lithotripsy group. This is a Prospective Observational study. ICPL were done as day case surgery and ESWL were done as outpatient basis. Results: Intracorporeal pneumatic lithotripsy is better than in situ ESWL for the treatment of small non-impacted upper ureteric stone because it has more stone clearance rate and less complication like fever, haematuria, steinstrasse, UTI, ureteral injury and ureteral perforation. Conclusion: At the end of the study, it can be concluded that for the management of upper ureteric stones ICPL is a better option than in situ ESWL considering its greater stone clearance and less complications.

An experiment was carried out with North Carolina Mating Design II (NC II) derived F1 progenies along with parents to know nature of gene action in regulating early maturity, yield and yield contributing traits. The principal objective of this research was to identify best parents and specific cross combinations based on combining ability analysis and estimation of heritability. Hybrids and their parents were arranged in a 8 by 8 partially balanced lattice design with two replicates. Kanchan, BARI Gom-25 × BARI Gom-21, BARI Gom-26 × Kanchan, Rawal × Kanchan, Rawal × BARI Gom-22 and BARI Gom-23 × Kheri showed earliness and BARI Gom-25 × BARI Gom-21 showed highest yield potentiality. The genotypes BARI Gom-28 and BARI Gom-30 were used as checks and the selected genotypes performed comparatively better than the checks. The genetic analysis exhibited significant additive and non-additive genetic variations for all the traits. For earliness and yield potentiality the variance due to SCA was highly significant than GCA. Heritability estimates revealed low broad sense heritability except the traits i.e. days to 50% flowering, days to 100% flowering, plant height and 100-grain weight, which exhibited medium heritability. Narrow sense heritability was low for all the traits. The GCA effect of 15 parental genotypes was insignificant for all the traits that were assessed. BARI Gom-25 x BARI Gom-21, BARI Gom-23 x BARI Gom-21, BARI Gom-25 x BARI Gom-27, BARI Gom-26 x Kanchan, BARI Gom-26 x BARI Gom-28, BARI Gom-25 x BARI Gom-27 showed significant SCA effects for earliness. BARI Gom-25 x BARI Gom-22, BARI Gom-26 x CB51 showed significant SCA effects for yield potentiality.

Objective: In this study our main goal is to evaluate the efficiency of spinal anesthesia among 4- 10 years children. Method: This prospective study was carried out at Cumilla Medical College hospital. A total of 50 pediatric patients 4 to 10 years of age group who were given spinal anesthesia for infraumbilical or lower extremity surgery during the 1-year period from January 2021 to December 2021 were included in the study. Results: During the study, majority patients were belong to 4-6 years age group 67%. During procedure, 80% patients’ position was sitting, followed by 50% cases number of punctures was single, where as 7% cases CSF reflux showed after 2nd puncture. Mean fasting hours were 5.82± 0.1 h. Injection atropine 0.01 mg/kg was given as premedication. Most of the patients were given ketamine either alone (59%) or with midazolam (41%). Other drugs used were diazepam (3%) and fentanyl (2%). there was no significant change in the mean value of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation after subarachnoid block at all time periods. After 10 min of SAB 95% patients achieved desired peak sensory level of T10 and Bromage score of 3. Conclusion: From our study we can recommend that spinal anesthesia is ideal, safe and cost- effective for day-case surgeries and there is no additional requirement of any special drugs or equipment’s for the procedure. Because of these benefits, spinal anesthesia preferred for children undergoing surgery in the lower part of the body.

The double-positive disease is the co-occurrence of antiglomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCAs) and is an uncommon cause of renal failure. Our case of triple-positive disease is an even rarer cause of isolated renal failure, as it includes anti-GBM, antimyeloperoxidase (MPO), and antiproteinase 3 (PR3). We present a case of a 62-year-old Caucasian male with a history of multiple comorbidities, who presented to the emergency department (ED) with worsening dyspnea on exertion that started about one month prior to admission. He was found to be in renal failure secondary to triple-positive disease. We believe that the likely mechanism of our patient’s triple-positive disease was a drug-induced ANCA vasculitis overlapping with Goodpasture’s syndrome. We believe our case to be a valuable addition to the literature as it is a rare overlap syndrome without a previously established disease course or etiology.

Rupture of the ventricular septum, a rare but potentially fatal complication of acute myocardial infarction, is usually observed in the setting of acute myocardial infarction associated with major coronary artery occlusion. It is often accompanied by severe circulatory failure. Intravascular embolization of bullets and other foreign bodies is a rare complication of penetrating trauma. It can represent a diagnostic challenge because it may present in various and unexpected ways. Introduction: Tubercular lymphadenitis nowadays is the commonest extra pulmonary manifestation of tuberculosis in Bangladesh. Sometimes it causes diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for the clinicians. Occasionally Clinical, laboratory findings and fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is not optimum that creates diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma. FNAC is often inconclusive. Sometimes therapy failed cases and atypical tuberculosis require open biopsy and neck dissection. Objective: To see the effectiveness of lymph node dissection & biopsy for diagnostic purpose and efficacy of the operation in suspected Multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) for treatment failure due to any reason. Material and Methods: This cross sectional observational study was conducted during the time period of 01st Jan 2014 to 1st Jan 2020 in ENT & Head-Neck Surgery & Pulmonology department, Combined Military Hospital Dhaka on 150 patients who have undergone surgical neck dissection. Results: In this study total number of patients were 216. FNAC was done for all of them and found nonspecific lymphadenitis for 41 cases, lymphoma for 12 cases, sarcoidosis for 08 cases and kikuchi disease for 05 cases. 150 patients were found inconconclusive in FNAC. Inclusion criteria are followings, 1. FNAC is inconclusive & negative 2. Surgery was not done before. Among 150 patients different types of surgery was done like enblock resection, selective neck dissection and modified neck dissection. Histopathologically 06 cases found nonspecific lymphadenitis, 03 cases found lymphoma and 01 case found sarcoid granuloma. 150 cases were found histopathologically tubercular lymphadenitis. They show positive findings in biopsy, caseation necrosis- (100%), C/S +, among the Gene Xpert tests- Gene X-pert (Rif sensitive 83.33%, Rif resistant 16.66%). After completion of anti-tubercular therapy (ATT) (CAT-I HRZE) for total 150 patients, 125 patients were cured and 25 patients were not cured (treatment failure). Out of 25 patients 10 developed multiple cold abscess, 08 developed discharging sinus and 07 had relapse during follow up. 2nd Surgical interventions were done in total 25 patients, 10 TB abscess during ATT (CAT-1 HRZE), 8 discharging sinus and 7 relapse patients along with ATT (CAT-2 SHRZE) and all these patients had no relapse or treatment failure during further follow up. Conclusion: Tuberculous lymphadenitis is best treated with antitubercular medication and in addition surgical neck dissection is more useful in selected cases. So role of surgery is most useful for diagnostic accuracy as well as adjunct to the treatment avoiding prolongation of ATT and noxious side effects of drugs and also to prevent the formation of abscess and sinus. Introduction: The study compares the surgical treatment options utilized to treat temporomandibular joint ankylosis at a tertiary level hospital in Bangladesh from 2016 to 2017. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective analysis, 18 patients (28 joints) were studied. History, radiological and physical examinations, and mouth opening were all part of the preoperative and postoperative evaluation. Age, sex, underlying cause, affected joint (s), surgery modality, complications, and follow-up durations were all taken into consideration. The data was analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 statistical software. The degree of mouth opening before and after different surgical techniques in different patient categories was compared using a one-way ANOVA followed by Tuky's HSD test. Results: Temporomandibular joint ankylosis was found to be in several forms (fibrous, fibro-osseous, and osseous), with trauma (61.11%) being the most common cause. The patients ranged in age from 5 to 30 years old, with females accounting for 55.55% of the total. The mean mouth opening significantly increased from 3.11 mm pre-operatively to 31.17 mm in the first month following surgery (p = 0.00001). In 55.55% of the instances, temporary facial nerve paresis occurred. Conclusions: Temporomandibular joint ankylosis can be successfully managed with early excision of the ankylotic mass, restoration of the ramus height by bone grafting, interpositional arthroplasty, and intensive physiotherapy. Background: Oral disease is a worldwide problem that causes agony, tooth loss, deformity, and death. Even though acute pseudomembranous candidiasis, or thrush, is the most common oral candidiasis, other types exist and candida infection may present as white and erythematous sores. White lesions include acute pseudomembranous and chronic hyperplastic candidiasis; red lesions include acute and chronic erythematous candidiasis, angular cheilitis, median rhomboid glossitis, and linear gingival erythema. Candida albicans is a major health hazard. This species causes a variety of ailments, from vaginal infections that affect 75% of women at least once to severe hospital infections that cause morbidity and mortality. As a consequence of the COVID-19 epidemic, several patients have suffered ARDS, which threatens superinfections. According to WHO estimates, the total number of confirmed cases will approach 240 million by October 19, 2021, and the cumulative number of fatalities would exceed 4.8 million. SARS-CoV-2 causes lung illness and systemic consequences. Respiratory and heart issues killed several. Candida strains produce invasive fungal infections. In COVID-19, invasive yeast infections (IYIs) are common. Despite COVID-19's immune system failure, no abnormalities in the cellular and humoral immune cells essential to fight Candida have been found. Oral lesion, taste loss, and tooth loss have all been linked to COVID-19. Methods: This study was comparative study. This study comprised 25–90-year-olds diagnosed with moderate to severe COVID-19 and hospitalized in covid ICU at Comilla Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh. The assessment followed inclusion/exclusion criteria. Sample size was obtained using a calculator with a 0.05 standard error and 95% confidence. Chest imaging and RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19. Comparing 100 patients with oral thrush and associated oral issues. Data entry will utilize SPSS and Excel. SPSS 23 will be used for data analysis. Excel and JASP will be available for any complications. Result: Oral thrush is the most prevalent, 61 (64.2%). Second most prevalent is inflamed gum, 26 (27.4%). Teeth mobility is the 3rd most common complication among the COVID-19 patients, 11 (11.6%). Other complication such as dental pain, foul smell, burning sensation, aphthous ulcer, teeth sensibility; 8 (8.4%), 3 (3.2%), 2 (2.1%), 4 (4.2%) and 2 (2.1%), were also present, respectively. Conclusion: In severely sick COVID-19 patients, oral thrush, loose teeth, and inflamed gums were the most often reported problems. The extended prone posture and mechanical breathing equipment utilized in the ICU environment may have contributed to these oral problems. Therefore, it is highly recommended that a multidisciplinary approach be used for the monitoring and treatment of COVID-19, which implies that nurses and oral healthcare professionals should be included in the ICU teams

The lessons of the history of past genocidal incidents expose that the educated and the leaders, collectively called ‘intellectuals’, have often been a distinct target by the perpetrators. Bengali intellectuals were also targeted and killed by the Pakistani military and its local collaborators during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. As the Bangladesh genocide, committed by the Pakistani military and its local collaborators, is still internationally overlooked, the issue of killing the Bengali intellectuals during such genocide has not obtained much attention. This study identifies the killing of the intellectuals as one of the genocidal policies employed by the Pakistani military and its local collaborators during the war. The massacre of the Bengali intellectuals in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War is examined in this article from the perspective of the 1948 Genocide Convention. The authors have critically analyzed the killing of the Bengali intellectuals in light of the definition of ‘genocide’ and the travaux preparatoires of the Convention to explore whether it forms a genocidal policy.

This research has attempted an analysis of the Literary Texts included in the NCTB English for Today (Class II - Class VIII) Textbooks from the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) which is fundamentally a sociolinguistic paradigm to find and locate the internal ideological, social, ethical, moral and political implications encoded in the texts. CDA has been adopted both as a theoretical and methodological framework to carry out the research. Literary texts like poetry, short story etc. have been used as a secondary source materials and data collected from students and teachers from 20 Government primary schools and 10 secondary schools covering 1500 students and 150 teachers as primary data for this research. The primary data has been collected through survey questionnaire and focused group discussion. The collected data has been analyzed using qualitative methods like Content analysis, Narrative analysis, Thematic analysis, Grounded theory (GT) and Interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA). Various Computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) like ATLAS.ti, Dedoose (mixed methods), MAXQDA (mixed methods), NVivo and QDA MINER have been used where necessary to analyze in-depth interviews. The collected data have been analyzed using NVivo software depending on the similarities; the data have been then grouped into categories and themes. These patterned themes have emerged objectively out of the data as emergent themes. The findings from the data shows that 33% of the total student respondents do not at all read the literary texts, 33% of the teacher respondents do not teach or discuss literary texts in the classrooms and only 16% of the students read the literary texts on their own. The literary texts are totally skipped and ignored by around 8% of the student respondents and only 8% of students and teachers read and teach the literary texts effectively as intended. The current clinical trial presents a review of CKD-patients enrolled for Autologous Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (adMSCs) transplantation at Bangladesh Laser & Cell Surgery (BLCS) Institute & Hospital. Between April 2019 to June 2021, 52 CKD-patients were enrolled in this phase 1 & 2 trial receiving intravenous autologous adMSCs transplantation. Twenty-three CKD-patients who had received MSCs transplantation and had also followed-up with di-ethylene tri-amine Penta-acetic acid (DTPA) -based glomerular filtration rate (GFR) assessment, were considered for analysis. The mean (SD) DTPA-based GFR was significantly improved after adMSCs transplantation among study participants than the baseline mean (SD) DTPA-based GFR (19.79 [12.4] vs 15.07 [11.4], p=0.003). The DTPA-based GFR improved in stage-5 CKD patients with and without dialysis after MSCs transplantation, but a significant mean difference was observed only in CKD patients on dialysis (7.1 [6.9] vs 14.2 [12.6], p=0.011). Hence, pre-dialysis patients DTPA-GFR both at baseline and endline was higher than patients those on dialysis. The obtained results revealed that renal function improves in CKD patients through MSCs transplantation. No significant side effects or complication pertaining specifically to stem cell transplantation was observed during the study period.

Background: It was assumed that dietary habits might influence the status of COVID-19 patients. Aim: We aimed at the identification of association of dietary habits with the COVID-19 severity and hospitalization. Methods: It was a retrospective cross-sectional study (n = 1025). We used bivariate and multivariate analyses to correlate the association between self-reported dietary patterns and COVID-19 severity and hospitalization. Results: Dietary habits (black tea, milked tea, pickles, black caraway seeds, honey, fish, fruits, vegetables, garlic, onion and turmeric) were identified with lower risk of COVID-19 severity and hospitalization. Interestingly, the consumption frequency (one-, two- or three-times/day) of rice - the staple food in Bangladesh - was not associated with COVID-19 severity and hospitalization for comorbid patients. In contrast, a moderate rice-eating habit (two times/day) was strongly associated with the lower risk of severity and hospitalization for non-comorbid patients. However, for both comorbid and non-comorbid patients, consumption of black tea, milked tea, pickles and honey were associated with a lower likelihood of severity and hospitalization. Overall, a high consumption (three-times/day) of fish, fruits and vegetables, a moderate consumption of garlic, onion and turmeric spices and a daily intake of black/milked tea, and honey were associated with reduced risk of COVID-19 severity and hospitalization. Conclusions: To reduce the severity of COVID-19, a habitual practice of intaking black tea, milked tea, black caraway seeds and honey along with dietary habit (rice, fish and vegetables) and with a moderate consumption of ginger, garlic, onion, mixed aromatic spices (cinnamon + cardamom + cloves) and turmeric might be suggested.

Introduction: Benign enlargement of prostate (BEP) is one of the common problem in elderly male. Most of the patients present with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) which consist of voiding symptoms and storage symptoms. Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) is the gold standard treatment option for BEP. TURP improves both obstructive and storage symptoms in majority of cases. But sometimes storage symptoms persist after TURP. This study was done to predict the factors for persistence of storage symptoms after TURP by evaluating clinical and urodynamic variables. Objective: To predict the factors for persistence of storage symptoms after transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) by evaluating clinical and urodynamic variables. Materials and Method: This was a prospective analytic study done in the department of Urology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib medical university (BSMMU), Shabagh, Dhaka. In this study, total 60 patients of BEP with the indication of TURP were enrolled. Preoperative data includes Age of the patient, International prostate symptoms score(IPSS), IPSS storage sub score, Qmax, QoL scores, Maximum cystometric capacity(MCC), Post void residue(PVR), PdetQmax, Bladder contractility index (BCI) and postoperative data includes post-operative IPSS storage sub score, Qmax were recorded and analyzed. Result: Among preoperative variables, Age (>65y) and IPSS storage sub score has highest predictive value. Bladder contractility index (BCI) and MCC have significant predictive value. Qmax and PVR have also predictive value. Conclusion: This study result shows elderly patient of higher age group, preoperative high IPSS storage sub score, smaller MCC & high BCI have chance of persistence of storage symptoms. Bangladesh J. Introduction: Ureteric stone disease is common all over the world. Because of advancements in endourology and instruments- urologists manage ureteral stone effectively by ureteroscopy and lithotripsy using various energy sources. Commonly, lower ureteric stones are managed by ureteroscopy and intracorporeal pneumatic lithotripsy (URS and ICPL). After completing the procedure surgeons prefer to install double J (DJ) stent for a variable period within the ureter to overcome ureteral edema. There is no guideline for the optimal duration of keeping DJ stent in ureteral lumen. Urologists decide the duration of DJ stent according to their clinical experience & judgment- that makes a wide variation of stent period. Keeping the double J (DJ) stent for a longer duration may produce harmful effects, those even may be life-threatening. Objective: To observe the effect of time duration on bacterial colonization in DJ stent after URS and ICPL. Material and method: This experimental study was conducted in the Department of Urology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), for 1-year duration. The total sample size was 82. Samples were allocated into two groups. In group A: Double J stent was kept in situ for d” 4 weeks, whereas in Group B: stent duration was > 4 (up to 8) weeks. In this study, purposive sampling technique was implemented. Unilateral ureteral stone managed by URS, ICPL were included in the study. Patients having bilateral stones, co-morbidities like diabetes mellitus (DM), malignancy, immunosuppression, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and who had per operative ureteral injury were excluded. After removal of the DJ stent, 2-3 cm bladder-end tip was sent for culture and sensitivity. Reports were collected and documented. Result: Out of 82 cases, 40 were in group A and 42 in group B. 62 patients were male, 20 were female. DJ stent culture was positive in 14 cases (17%), whereas urine culture was positive in 7cases (8.5%). Among those- both stent and urine were positive in 4 cases (4.8%). Stent positive but urine negative in 10 cases (71%). In positive cases, stent and urine were colonized by a similar organism. E. coli was the commonest causative organism. Stent culture was positive in 4 cases (28.6%) in group A, 10 cases (71.4%) in group B but it was statically insignificant (p-value 0.09). Conclusion: Bacterial colonization in DJ stent increases with longer indwelling time. Individually stent or urine culture can not detect all pathogens in the urinary tract. So urine culture, as well as stent culture, is required to detect the uropathogen. The final recommendation is that-removal of DJ stent as early as possible is the key to prevent bacterial colonization. Bangladesh J. Urol. 2021; 24(2): 188-192

Ventilatory function tests like PEFR provide a better understanding of the changes in the lungs from a diagnostic viewpoint. It is effort dependent and reflects mainly the calibre of the bronchi and larger bronchioles, which are subjected to reflex bronchoconstriction. Objective: To study the variations in the PEFR with various factors with respect to age, body mass index, blood pressure and heart rate among males and females patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted at Department of Medicine, Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, Gazipur, Bangladesh from January to December 2020 among young male and female subjects. The subjects with no history of cardio, availability & capacity to cooperate adequately, non- smokers; and no history of any drug intake which could affect the lung functioning were included in the study. PEFR was measured with the subject comfortably seated during the same time of the day for all subjects. It was determined in litres/minute with the help of “The Peak”, Individualised Peak flow meter from Multispiro Inc. A prospective study was conducted between March 2021 and February 2022 in the National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh involving 30 patients who underwent cataract surgery for phacolytic glaucoma. The aim of this study was to see the postoperative visual outcome of cataract surgery in patients with phacolytic glaucoma. Visual acuity and development of any postoperative complications were recorded. The mean age of the patients was 60.7 years. Female to male ratio was 1.3:1. Most of the patients (67%) presented after 1 week of symptoms. On the first visit, mean preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) was 37.5 mm of Hg. Following surgery, 93.33% had an intraocular pressure less than 21 mm Hg at discharge. Background: Primary bladder neck obstruction is not uncommon in middle aged men. Patients with primary bladder neck obstruction usually present with voiding and storage symptoms. They are evaluated by history, physical examination, investigations and confirmed by urodynamic study. There are different modalities of treatment. It varies according to age, sex and associated conditions. If medical treatment failed, they are treated with unilateral or bilateral bladder neck incisions. Among them, per and postoperative outcome like operation time, hospital stay, voiding time, PVR, Qmax and retrograde ejaculation were assessed in both the group. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the operation time, postoperative hospital stay, PVR, Qmax, voiding time and retrograde ejaculation between two groups who underwent unilateral or bilateral bladder neck incision due to primary bladder neck obstruction. Material and methods: This quasi experimental study was carried out in the department of urology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, from July 2013 to June 2015. Male patients with lower urinary tract symptoms due to primary bladder neck obstruction were the study population. Sixty patients were selected from Urology OPD as sample according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Background: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in patients operated previously for renal stone are thought to pose some difficulties. Objective: To see the outcome of PCNL in patients who had undergone open surgery for renal stone. Method: This cross sectional study was conducted in the Department of Urology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka from November 2015 to October 2016 over a period of one year. Thirty cases with recurrent stone having previous open renal stone surgery were enrolled as study subject. After PCNL all the patients were followed up at one week, one month and three months after procedure. Result: Mean age of the patients was 40.90 ± 6.08 years and mean stone size was 2.98 ± 0.65 cm. Mean operation time of the patients was 1.50 ± 0.46 hours and mean postoperative hospital stay was 3.87 ± 1.13 days. Stone was cleared from 29 (96.7%) patients. Mean drop of Haemoglobin level was 0.85 ± 0.55 mg/dl. Conclusion: Previous open stone surgery does not alter the outcome of subsequent PCNL. Bangladesh J. Urol. 2021; 24(1): 58-61

Introduction: Osteoporosis is a silent disaster among postmenopausal women worldwide and carries the highest contribution to morbidity and mortality, especially with concomitant Diabetes Mellitus. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional observational study conducted to evaluate Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women having diabetes mellitus attending outdoor in the department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, BSMMU. The study was conducted from July 2020 to June 2021. A total of 54 patients were included in the study. Results: Osteoporosis of the lumbar spine and femoral neck were present among 72.2% and 55.6% of respondents. Osteoporosis of at least one site was present among 83.3% of respondents. Statistically, a significant relationship was found between osteoporosis and co morbidity, BMI, age of onset of menstruation, age of onset of menopause, and duration of menopause (p=0.025, 0.01, 0.049, 0.043, and 0.032 respectively). The SHANK3 gene encodes a master synaptic scaffolding protein at the excitatory synapse's postsynaptic density, which is predominantly responsible for constructing a synapse, maintaining synaptic structure, and functions. Recently, evidence from rare mutations and copy number variation provided an important clue about SHANK3 which acts as a strong candidate gene in the pathogenesis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).To investigate potential allelic variants for the SHANK3 (rs9616915) gene as a genetic risk factor, we performed PCR-RFLP analysis and Sanger sequencing for 90 ASD and 90 healthy subjects. Moreover, to understand the functional and structural impacts of our selected non-synonymous SHANK3 SNP rs9616915, we have performed an in silico analysis. Subsequently, a meta-analysis of rs9616915 with a total of 6 eligible studies (including the present study) containing a total of 795 cases and 12,947 controls was obtained from a comprehensive online database search to evaluate the overall association with ASD.Our retrieved data, such as Pearson's chi-square test (p = 0.081) as well as logistic regression analysis of co-dominant (p = 0.1131), dominant (p = 0.3656) and recessive models (p = 0.0569) speculated no significant association between rs9616915 and our studied sample. Interestingly, by in silico analysis, we have observed two hydrogen bonds between amino acids instead of one hydrogen bond in the protein structure of rs9616915, which indicates this mutant structure could affect the proteins' stability. The findings of the meta-analysis revealed that four genetic association models were associated with ASD susceptibility.Our study suggested that targeted SHANK3 SNP of interest rs9616915 might not be associated with ASD in the southern part of the Bangladeshi population.

In this work, the optimization of an off-grid micro-hybrid system is evaluated. This is conducted with the estimation of the proper sizing of each element and the steady-state voltage, frequency, and power responses of the microgrid. Kangaroo Island in South Australia is considered to be the test case location and the grid incorporates solar PV (photo-voltaic), diesel generator, battery storage, and wind turbine. Optimal sizing of the studied microgrid is carried out for four various power dispatch techniques: (i) cycle charging (CC), (ii) generator order (GO), (iii) load following (LF), and (iv) combined dispatch (CD). The proposed off-grid micro-hybrid is optimized for three performance indices; minimal Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), CO2 emission, and Net Present Cost (NPC). Using iHOGA (improved hybrid optimization by genetic algorithm), microgrid optimization software, all the above-mentioned dispatch strategies have been implemented and following this, MATLAB/Simulink platform has been used for the steady-state studies. The results show that the LF strategy is the utmost optimum dispatch technique in terms of the studied performance indices i.e. considering the optimal size and voltage and frequency responses. The results obtained from these studies provide a pathway for the estimation of the resource-generation-load combination for the islanded off-grid microgrid for its optimal operation with the various dispatch strategies.

Air pollution remains a major threat to cardiovascular health and most acute myocardial infarction (AMI) deaths occur at home. However, currently established knowledge on the deleterious effect of air pollution on AMI has been limited to routinely monitored air pollutants and overlooked the place of death. In this study, we examined the association between short-term residential exposure to China’s routinely monitored and unmonitored air pollutants and the risk of AMI deaths at home. A time-stratified case-crossover analysis was undertaken to associate short-term residential exposure to air pollution with 0.1 million AMI deaths at home in Jiangsu Province (China) during 2016–2019. Individual-level residential exposure to five unmonitored and monitored air pollutants including PM1 (particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 1 μm) and PM2.5 (particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 2.5 μm), SO2 (sulfur dioxide), NO2 (nitrogen dioxide), and O3 (ozone) was estimated from satellite remote sensing and machine learning technique. We found that exposure to five air pollutants, even below the recently released stricter air quality standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), was all associated with increased odds of AMI deaths at home. The odds of AMI deaths increased by 20% (95% confidence interval: 8 to 33%), 22% (12 to 33%), 14% (2 to 27%), 13% (3 to 25%), and 7% (3 to 12%) for an interquartile range increase in PM1, PM2.5, SO2, NO2, and O3, respectively. A greater magnitude of association between NO2 or O3 and AMI deaths was observed in females and in the warm season. The greatest association between PM1 and AMI deaths was found in individuals aged ≤ 64 years. This study for the first time suggests that residential exposure to routinely monitored and unmonitored air pollutants, even below the newest WHO air quality standards, is still associated with higher odds of AMI deaths at home. Future studies are warranted to understand the biological mechanisms behind the triggering of AMI deaths by air pollution exposure, to develop intervention strategies to reduce AMI deaths triggered by air pollution exposure, and to evaluate the cost-effectiveness, accessibility, and sustainability of these intervention strategies. Power tiller-driven plow tillage and crop residue exclusionary Traditional Agriculture practices are expensive, labor demanding, soil damaging, and eco-unfriendly. Over the last several years, pursuits of crop production through sustaining the productive capacity of soils, and environmental quality, have raised concern to adopt Conservation Agriculture worldwide. Single tillage combined with herbicides and crop residue retention principles of Conservation Agriculture are being developed. Between 2016–2017 and 2017–2018, a two-year on-farm experiment was done in Bangladesh. We practiced two crop establishment methods; Traditional Agriculture: Plow tillage followed by three manual weeding without residue preservation of previous crop and Conservation Agriculture: Pre-plant herbicide + single tillage + pre-emergence herbicide + post-emergence herbicide; under rice–wheat and rice–wheat–mungbean systems. Data reveal that the Conservation Agriculture was more cost-effective crop establishment technique than Traditional Agriculture in rice, wheat, and mungbean by increasing the ratio of benefit to costs by 24.3%, 35.7% and 48.8%, respectively, with a savings in tillage operations (66.3%, 58.1%, and 57.6%, respectively), weeding expenditures (59.2%, 24.5%, and 42.2%, respectively), and manpower requirements (25.1%, 27.2%, and 31.3%, respectively). This has resulted in an increase of 32% productivity of rice–wheat–mungbean systems with the yield advantage of 16%, 31% and 37% in rice, wheat and mungbean, respectively. When mungbean was added, the rice–wheat system’s productivity rose by 43%. The rice–wheat–mungbean system under Traditional Agriculture had the highest land utilization efficiency (99.45%), followed by Conservation Agriculture (92.05%), which expanded the scope to include additional crops into rice–wheat–mungbean system. Moreover, the Conservation Agriculture had a 59.7% greater production efficiency than Traditional Agriculture, where the rice–wheat–mungbean system having the highest production efficiency (53.00 kg–1 ha–1 day–1), followed by the rice–wheat system (45.57 kg–1 ha–1 day–1).

Background: Lowbirthweight(LBW)contributes substantially to neonatal, infant, and childhood mortality and morbidity. Several maternal factors contribute to the incidence of LBW, majority of which are biologically and socially interrelated, are modifiable; making LBW a potentially preventable condition. Objective: To evaluate the association of maternal risk factors with birth weight of newborn. Methods: This hospital-based cross-sectional comparative study was conducted in Mugda medical college, Dhaka, a government health center of Bangladesh, from January 2019 to 30 June 2019. A total of 180 recently delivered pregnant mother were included in this study and categorized into two groups: Group A- 90 mother who had given birth of low birth weight baby, and Group B- another 90 mother who delivered normal birth weight baby.Face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire and a review of medical records were carried out. Statistical analyses of the results were obtained by using window-based computer software devised with SPSS version 23. Results: Highest percentage of patients from both group A and B were belonged to 20 - 34 years of age (62.2% and 81.1% respectively) and para £3 (76.7% and 88.8% respectively) with significant odds ratio for delivering low birth weight baby at advanced maternal age (³35 years) (OR=2.14, p value 0.037) and high parity (para >3) (OR=2.44, p value 0.03).Majority mothers from group A had hypertension (58.9%) whereas 90% mothers from group B were normotensive with significant odds ratio (OR= 12.89, p value 3 (OR= 2.66, p value 0.257). Conclusion: Gestational hypertension, advanced maternal age and high parity are the significant risk factors for delivering LBW baby. However, further larger multicenter study is recommended.
