We report the case of a 74-year-old man with a giant cell tumour (GCT) of the right maxilla and pterygoid process. The patient presented to the maxillofacial and head and neck surgery clinic with an ulcerated lesion of the hard palate. Initial workup with CT revealed a mass within the right maxillary sinus and pterygoid process with associated bone expansion and erosion. Biopsy showed a GCT with mucosal ulceration. Two years after surgical resection, a follow-up CT revealed tumour recurrence involving the right pterygoid process and lateral pterygoid muscle. The patient was then proposed for therapy with denosumab. Under denosumab treatment, the lesion maintained stable dimensions and became sclerotic and heavily ossified.

The measure of climate change in dairy farms can be achieved by using the emissions of methane by the ruminants converted in CO2 equivalent (CO2-eq). In order to know the impact of future quotes of methane in the Azorean dairy milk farms, a decision model is built to the Azorean intensive grazing system of dairy farms. Some scenarios of methane levels reductions from 10 to 75% are considered and their impact is evaluated upon dairy farms income, level of CO2-eq emissions and intensity level of grazing system. The results have shown that any reduction of the methane level always implies a consequent decrease in income. If the CO2-eq has to be limited than there is the need to find alternative income activities for farmers in order to preserve economic sustainability. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

We describe a case of a 70-year-old man presenting with a mandibular metastasis as the first sign of a mucinous adenocarcinoma of the rectum. After 6 months of a protracted toothache, the patient presented with a palpable mandibular mass and trismus, precluding adequate clinical evaluation. A CT scan was performed, and imaging findings suggested an aggressive primary jawbone tumour, most likely an osteosarcoma. However, biopsy and further patient’s management proved to be a metastasis. Metastasis to the oral cavity account for only 1%–3% of all malignant oral tumours, and the mandible is the most frequent site. Clinical presentation can be quite variable, and most often a primary malignancy is already known. Jawbone metastases are a sign of disseminated malignant neoplasms, with poor prognosis and usually an indication for palliative therapy.

We describe the case of a 71-year-old man with a ganglioneuroma of the retropharyngeal space. The patient presented with a submucosal bulge of the left oropharyngeal wall during follow-up examination of a treated vocal cord carcinoma. CT and MRI revealed a non-specific, well-defined retropharyngeal soft tissue lesion. Positron emission tomography-CT did not show relevant metabolic activity, excluding the hypothesis of metastatic nodal disease. Surgical biopsy of the lesion was compatible with ganglioneuroma. Ganglioneuromas are well-differentiated tumours composed of mature sympathetic ganglion cells that account for approximately 1% of spinal and paraspinal tumours. Peripherally, ganglioneuromas are predominantly found in the posterior mediastinum and retroperitoneal space. Only nine ganglioneuromas of the retropharyngeal space have been reported in the English literature since the early 1980s.

The process present in the northern state of Mato Grosso occupation was carried out in order to ensur e the growth and development of the country. Driven b y government incentives and advertising, several fa milies left their place of origin in search of better conditions. In this sense, we aimed to identify local actors and p roduction activities in a settlement belonging to the buffer zone of the Ju ruena National Park. The survey was conducted in Ja nuary 2011, with the residents of the settlement Aruma, located in t he municipality of Apiacas - MT. To collect data, w e used a questionnaire with semi - structured questions, app lied through direct interview conducted by interdis ciplinary research involving environmental and social areas. Data were transcribed and analyzed using qualitative model d efined by the methods of action research and participatory resear ch. The families interviewed came from different Br azilian regions in search of better living, access to land and oppo rtunities, residing in the settlement for more than 10 years. These can withdraw their livelihood through agriculture, live stock, small livestock and mostly by wage labor. Th e region has a need to develop new strategies to ensure the perman ence of these families in the settlement, so that t hey are able to withdraw your income with work within your property, thus reducing the rate of rural migration and suc cess within the country. However, this is only possible with the su pport and technical assistance provided by the loca l sphere and the agency responsible for the park. Keyword: Colonization. Migration. Land use. Anal intraepithelial neoplasia is believed to be a precursor of anal cancer, and it appears to be related to high-risk human papillomavirus. Women with genital neoplasia have been shown to be at increased risk for anal cancer. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of anal intraepithelial neoplasia in women with genital neoplasia. This is a cross-sectional study. This study took place at Hospital Nossa Senhora da Conceição, Porto Alegre, Brazil, from May 2008 to April 2010.Included in the study were 106 immunocompetent women with a histopathological diagnosis of genital neoplasia and 74 women without gynecologic neoplasia. All women underwent high-resolution anoscopy with biopsies of acetowhite areas or abnormal vascular features such as punctation and mosaics for histopathological diagnosis of anal intraepithelial neoplasia.: The overall prevalence of anal intraepithelial neoplasia was 6.6%. In women with genital neoplasia, the prevalence was 10.4% (95% CI, 5.6%-17.3%), whereas the prevalence was 1.4% (95% CI, 0.07%-6.5%) in women without genital neoplasia (P = .016). The prevalence ratio was 7.68 (95% CI, 1.01-58.21).Women with normal results on high-resolution anoscopy were not submitted to random biopsies for ethical reasons. Small lesions could be missed, and thus our findings might be underestimated. The prevalence of anal intraepithelial neoplasia is higher in women with genital neoplasia.
