SPORTS journalism , *TELEVISION broadcasting of news , *SPORTS television programs , *TELEVISED sports , *WOMEN journalists , *GENDER inequality - Abstract
Brazilian television's efforts to reduce gender inequality in sports journalism are well known. Since 2021, women have been taking on roles that were previously exclusive to men, such as narrating soccer matches. This article starts from the hypothesis that printed newspapers are going against the trend seen in sports television journalism. To achieve the objectives, 1,184 publications from the sports sections of the country's three main newspapers - O Globo, Folha de S. Paulo and Estado de S. Paulo - were analyzed in July 2020 and July 2021. Of the total number of signed texts, 86.7% were written by men and only 13.3% by women. An even greater asymmetry was recorded in the photojournalism of these sections. Women published 7.9% of the photos compared to 92.1% by men. To help interpret the data, two in-depth interviews were conducted with women journalists from the sports sections of these media outlets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AUTONOMY (Economics) , *LEGAL norms , *UNPAID labor , *SUSTAINABLE development , *REGULATORY approval - Abstract
In September 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals were approved, giving way to the previous agenda: The Millennium Development Goals. At the halfway point of the date for their achievement in 2030, it is necessary to reflect on the setbacks and advances of the Agenda. Specifically, the objective of this article is to analyze the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the achievement of gender equity in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Specifically, it will address the situation of women's economic autonomy, addressing Goals 1, 5 and 8. The methodology used is through qualitative review, applying theoretical methods of a socio-legal nature and through the analysis-synthesis of the data obtained. To this end, this will be studied through two axes, on the one hand, the data collected from the region around the selected goals and indicators; and, on the other, the development of innovative legal norms. In this sense, although there have been some advances that allow the 2030 Agenda on a path of progress, the pandemic crisis has revealed the structural conditions of gender inequality, making it necessary to reflect on the crisis of care in the region. The pandemic crisis has shown several setbacks, but a positive trend can be indicated in the approval of comprehensive regulatory frameworks in the region, which shows the interest in making feminized and unpaid work visible, but these must be accompanied by a real political commitment. INDUSTRIAL safety , *HIGH school curriculum , *SECONDARY education , *WOMEN'S history , *QUANTITATIVE research , *GENDER inequality - Abstract
Gender inequality is still a phenomenon that is part of different social segments. Even over the years, the man continues to be seen as the main provider of the house while the woman does not need -or should notstudy, earn her money and have her independence, being assigned to take care of the house, the children and be totally submissive. The present work has as its theme gender inequality in the on-site occupational safety course at the Federal Institute of Paraiba (Campus Patos): a history of the presence of women over the years (2009-2020). An exploratory and quantitative research was developed with data from courses integrated to high school and higher education collected through the academic control sector of the Federal Institute of Paraiba (Campus Patos). With this, it was discovered that the presence of women proved to be elusive in the Occupational Safety Technologist course until the year 2016 and only from 2017 onwards, the students who did not complete the course maintained a relationship of continuity, standing out in relation to to evasions. In the Occupational Safety Technician course, female participation stands out from the periods that have already ended to those that are still active. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EDUCATORS , *GENDER stereotypes , *SEX discrimination , *PREJUDICES , *GENDER , *SEXISM , *PROFESSIONS - Abstract
This study aims to analyze how gender relations can influence the higher academic career of Economics course professors who teach at nine institutions in Minas: Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, Universidade Federal de São João del-Rei, Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, Universidade Federal de Viçosa, Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Departamento de Economia Rural), Universidade Federal de Alfenas e Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros. For that, structured interviews were used as a methodological resource in order to investigate from the choice of course to the development of the academic journey of these women. As in many other professions, economics professors face setbacks and resignations that can only be understood from a gender perspective. Thus, the results revealed the existence of gender barriers characterized by the male image of the economist and the little credibility given to women in the field. In addition, the reports showed that, often, to remain in the teaching career in Economics, it is necessary to face prejudice, discrimination, gender stereotypes and sexism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ECONOMIC indicators , *LABOR demand , *WOMEN'S roles , *CLOTHING industry , *LABOR market , *POLITICAL participation , *GENDER inequality - Abstract
Based on the premise that the roles of men and women are distinct in the economy, and, at the same time, that they are reinforced by political decisions and by social structure, the objective of this work is to investigate what was the role of female participation in the Bangladeshi garment industry for the country's successful economic performance between 1980s and 2020. Relying on a heterodox analytical perspective and using a case study, I demonstrate that there has been no significant technological progress, productive diversification nor economic development in Bangladesh at the pace of the country's GDP growth rates. In addition, the increased demand for female labor in the garment industry, a key sector of the economy, has not removed women from the condition of dependence or subordination to men, since gender inequalities persist in the country's labor market. HIGH school students , *TEENAGE girls , *PRIVATE schools , *SCHOOL year , *PUBLIC schools , *GENDER inequality - Abstract
This paper presents the results of a study on how students build memories in School's Physical Education classes. To this end, we seek to discuss how youth and gender inequalities in high school can affect teenage girls and influence them into excluding these classes. The investigation was carried out through semi-structured interviews with sixty 3rd year high school students, in six public schools and six private schools in Pernambuco. The study reveals that the students' experiences are marked by a process of gender inequality, which is strenghted by the absence of teacher's intervention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the gender gap in Brazilian states and the actions of stakeholders of the National Council for Women’s Rights (NCWR). Two research was conducted in two steps. In the first step, a gender gap index in Brazilian states was calculated based on the Global Gender Gap Report (GGGR) methodology, prepared by the World Economic Forum. In the second, the NCWR stakeholders were mapped, and their performance was analyzed, considering the gender gap indexes obtained in the first step and the theoretical framework supported by stakeholder analysis models. The political and economic dimensions presented the worst performance. The Brazilian states with the best general indexes were Amapá, Distrito Federal, and Maranhão, and the worst were Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, and Paraná. On the other hand, NCWR stakeholders acting in public policies related to the economic and political dimensions do not seem to have great relevance and influence capacity. Evidence indicates a concentration of policy efforts in areas where the country has good GGGR indicators (health and education). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper has carried out the analysis of a Guidelines Proposal for Intervention with Women Victims of Gender Based Violence promoted by the Government Delegation of Spain for Gender Based Violence and aimed at professionals. From a Critical Discourse Analysis, the work has as objective to visualize the revictimizing framework from which the intervention against gender based violence is addressed. It also aims to evidence a lack of rigour extended to key processes that constitute what should be a profesional care and that inevitably impacts on the sensitive people who may need such care. Consequently, it can be seen the simplistic and reductionist conception that underlies the Social Intervention, and that devalues both the latter and its professionals (women mostly). Understanding this document as an institutional discursive production, it serves as an example of the current state of the issue. This paper points out the neccesity to improve the Intervention against Gender Based Violence, and also some of those invisible mechanisms that sustain the structural and systemic character of inequality, such as the individualization of the social issues or the perspective of scientific-professional devaluation of Social Intervention and, with that, of the involved disciplines. Abstract Studies show that people in vulnerable conditions and some social groups such as women and black people have suffered more intensely from the COVID-19 pandemic impacts. This expression of inequality also manifests itself among healthcare workers, with greater exposure of some specific groups. This paper analyzes the effect of COVID-19 on health care workers and the working conditions in the Brazilian public health system, analyzed from professional, gender, and race perspectives. Data were collected from an online survey of 1,829 health workers conducted in March 2021. Indeed, we identified inequalities in health workers’ experiences during the health crisis generated by COVID-19, which are marked by the profession of each worker and are traversed by their gender and race traits.

GENDER inequality , *LOCAL culture , *VIOLENCE against women , *DATA analysis , *COMPARATIVE studies - Abstract
It is not difficult to identify several forms of inequality, such as gender inequality, in the Brazilian society. This study is aimed at demonstrate - as a contribution - how this type of inequality is manifested by patterns of violence against women in a given context. It is shown here, how conflicts are maximized by the structure of local culture, although revitalized by the same structure, which allows a clearer vision of those conflicts. This research presents a national data comparative analysis, which includes women interviews by DataSenado in 2017, as well as a municipal case study - Ourinhos, SP -, by means of the analyzis of 20172018 Women Protection Police Precinct reports. The results show the profiles of both aggressors and victims, as well as the variation in the intensity of violence against women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this work is to know the magnitude of the gender gap in work in the indigenous population residing in an urban context such as Nuevo Leon, as well as the conditions in which indigenous women are inserted in the job market. To this end, the 2015 Census Survey was used as a data source. The results confirm that the access of indigenous women living in Nuevo Leon to extra-domestic work is still far from that of men, the level of economic activity of the female indigenous population is below half the value of the male's. In addition, there is still a wage gap between indigenous women and men in the different positions they hold at work, which reflects that indigenous women receive lower salaries on average, regardless of their position. - Abstract
This article brings a discussion about the female participation in Science with the goal of motivating the insertion and the permanence of women, mainly in hard Sciences: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematica. Uneven gender, with male prevalence in the scientific context, is the result of sociocultural factors, prejudice and beliefs about how each gender should behave in society. For women that desire for a scientific trajectory, it is essential to believe in their potential to break this vicious cycle of minority interest in this area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract This paper aims to analyze the gender gap in Brazilian states and the actions of stakeholders of the National Council for Women’s Rights (NCWR).

- Abstract
This article aims to map the different ways in which femininity is currently represented in advertising in Brazil: the reproduction of stereotypes reinforcing gender inequalities as well as the disruption of established models by mean of valuing women's autonomy. By drawing on data that demonstrate the public's questioning of female standards and the impact of advertisements seen as sexist by their audiences, we intend to reflect on the relation established between advertising and society as well as highlighting the need to reconfigure the ways for reflecting on and representing gender issues in advertising. This paper aims to discuss the importance of multidimensionality in understanding poverty in Porto Alegre, as well as to identify the spatial and gender disparities among its regions. The paper was based on a dataset from a survey conducted in 2007, in a two-stage methodology in which 16386 people living in poverty were interviewed. The results enabled the researchers to highlight the importance of dimensions such as habitation, health and education to allow people to "live a "dignified life". It also shows the differences in deprivations between men and women, the heterogeneity among the Porto Alegre regions and, in particular, the way in which men and women shape their perceptions of poverty and deprivation.

To what extent may gender inequality fall over the situation of poverty and the ways of protecting the family? This is the main question of this text. It discusses women's place in poor families. In the domestic sphere, these women, taking over the identity of mothers, become primarily responsible for providing and caring for their families, and even when they live in uneven spaces, they create alternatives to have support and to protect from social insecurities.

This article shows how war can stimulate and be related to gender violence and inequality. It shows how the Angolan independence struggle, followed by nearly three decades of civil conflict, has influenced inequality in the daily existence of Angolan women. Inserted in this context of struggle, these women simultaneously seek routes to undertake a new struggle: the struggle for recognition of their rights. This is a struggle waged with letters, a struggle for rights, a struggle for autonomy.

Finalmente, sugere-se que as pesquisas de usos do tempo podem contribuir para o fomento de políticas públicas destinadas a combater as desigualdades de gêneroThis paper analyses the interconnection between gender inequalities and time use, putting this analysis under the theoretic perspective of the time use surveys development and observing how it is reflected on the indicators of the Race and Gender Inequalities Picture. At first, time use surveys are characterized, and some of their history and current stage are recovered. The theoretic perspective that focuses on gender as a central category for the analysis of time use is also discussed. Some of the main results found by international time use surveys are presented, with an emphasis on the time use indicators elaborated on the basis of the Brazilian National Household Survey. Finally, it is suggested that time use surveys may contribute to foster public policies designed to attack gender inequalities

The purpose of this article is to discuss the differences observed between women and men in some of the daily mathematical practices made necessary by the demand and opportunities of a society based on the dynamics and criteria of written culture. We take for our analysis the results published in the fourth edition of the research entitled National Index of Functional Literacy (INAF), carried out in 2004, which evaluated the conditions and efficiency of the Brazilian young and adult populations in mobilizing mathematical skills to carry out daily tasks, and in which the results obtained by the male population were regarded as significantly superior to those achieved by the female population. Based on a reflection grounded in a Foucauldian perspective, we seek to understand these results as articulated to a discursive field marked by a mathematical rationality of Cartesian matrix. Analyzing under such perspective the mechanisms that contribute to degrade women's performance in comparison with men's in assessments of this kind - concerned as they are with the ability to give answers regarded as adequate in the execution of daily tasks regarded as relevant - our attention is focused on identifying another instance of production of inequalities between men and women, represented here by the valuation (in social life and in the assessments) of certain manners of conceiving and reacting to daily demands. As educators we are interested in unveiling the production of inequalities, so as to deconstruct certain discourses that favor them, and in bringing about other perspectives of analysis and pedagogical action.

Cohabitation is a distinctive feature of low-income groups in Latin America. In the past, it has been linked to colonial legacies including notions of familial honour, poverty, and a kinship system focused on blood ties. By contrast, some scholars consider rising levels of cohabitation in the present day to be an effect of modernisation, through increased gender equality. The present research, based on life histories of young, poor, urban co-habitees in Chile, aims to show that rising cohabitation is linked to targeted social policies and also to declining patriarchy, which is distinct from gender equality. This paper presents the results of a study on how students build memories in School’s Physical Education classes. To this end, we seek to discuss how youth and gender inequalities in high school can affect teenage girls and influence them into excluding these classes. The investigation was carried out through semi-structured interviews with sixty 3rd year high school students, in six public schools and six private schools in Pernambuco. The study reveals that the students' experiences are marked by a process of gender inequality, which is strenghted by the absence of teacher’s intervention.

Gender difference regarding land property in Latin America is significant. There are few countries in which women make up even a fourth of the owners. Gender inequality in land property is related to male preference at the moment of inheritance, to male privilege in marriage, to male bias in community and state land distribution programs as well as gender bias in the land market, women having less probability than men of being successful buyers. But there are also important gender differences in the way land is acquired. Inheritance is the main way by which women become owners, while men have much more probability to acquire land through their communities and the state as well as in the market. The article underlines the factors contributing to the tendency towards higher gender equality in land inheritance and recent state programs.

This dissertation analyzes the “zunga” problematic defined as working activicty in the informal market hegemonically frequented by women who are called “zungueiras” or street vendors. The aim of this research is to understand why the exercise of this activity is mainly carried out by migrant women, as in this ancient practice there is a historicity and legacy that accompanies this economic activity characterized by a socioeconomic and political trajectory in Angola. On the other hand, this population group whose livelihood is its informality, which is a profound reflection of the trajectory of the large-scale migratory flow, marked by the 1975-2002 civil war and by a series of fato rs that are intrinsically linked. The rural exodus and agglomeration are essentially the result of the civil war that haunted Angola for 27 years resulting in the emergence of informal settlements, increasingly worsening the social conditions of these populations to extreme poverty and emphasizing social inequality and exclusion. This study aims to understand functionality, commercialization, and chain marketing. If we look superficially at informality, there is a total disorganization, but if we look at the perspective of perceiving this practice, which is of great importance, it is through it that many Angolan families survive. Furthermore, those women are the only providers in supporting families who exercise this activity in an ordered way in classes and subclasses with an extraordinary organization. This analysis will be possible through a qualitative approach, through an in-depth interview with the information saturation method. What is discussed in this scientific work is to show the importance of corporates in the radicalization of poverty and the integration of this working activity from the informal to the formal market, allowing a more dignified life for this population niche.

Since Ruling T-239 of 2018, the need to create educational environments free of gender-based violence has escalated in legal discussions, however, both the characterization and recognition of this violence in classrooms remains a fruitless and merely illustrative discussion. The health emergency conditions caused by COVID-19 has shown the need to rethink relationships and educational dynamics beyond preconceptions, in order to address the complexities that represent both the construction of dialogue and the use of language within educational dynamics. This paper calls to take advantage of the emergence of new forms of new forms of communication in higher education institutions to rethink the way in which gender violence is being observed based on the institutional instruments resulting from ruling T-236 of 2018 and to deepen the study of the conditions of equality within the classrooms, in order to have tools that respond effectively to the materialization of gender equality in education.

Feminist frameworks have focused on gender inequality as the fundamental explanatory factor of male violence against women in union. This paper extends the analysis to contributions produced through social research. The approaches studied consider the personal characteristics of victims and aggressors (individual focus), the male-female power relationship within the couple (dyadic focus), and structural and symbolic factors (macro-social focus). An exploration of the respective contributions of these different perspectives shows that they offer only partial, inadequate approaches, given the multidimensional complexity of the problem. The main conclusions recognize that it is necessary to develop multi-level and inter-relational analytical frameworks such as the intersectional paradigm, in order to achieve a better understanding of the connection between gender inequality and male violence against women. This text seeks to give visibility to gender inequalities and strategies and tactics for coping with this situation, highlighting unusual situations and gimmicks, in Recife, Brazil. Those inequalities are expressed by borders, accessions, oppositions and alternatives. This is qualitative research of ethnographic inspiration, using the field diary, and that prioritizes the scene of a joint effort of graphite as a context of tensions update, games and practices articulation among such young people. It is the diversity among young people, from their modes of insertion / participation: there are "committed ", that that present themselves as subordinate to the laws of their partners, suggesting adherence to hegemonic masculine model; single Young women which differentiate between the rookies which show greater difficulty to locate and thematize gender inequalities; and those that are longest in the movement, and openness to produce situations of subordination in order to autonomy., Este texto busca dar visibilidade às desigualdades de gênero e às estratégias e táticas de enfrentamento de tal situação, destacando situações inusitadas e astúcias elaboradas pelas jovens mulheres participantes do movimento Hip Hop, em Recife, Brasil.
