Abstract

The article focuses on the study that explains the role of angiotensin II (Ang II)-independent Ang II type 1 receptor activation in the development of cardiac remodeling. Spontaneous systolic dysfunction, chamber dilatation, and severe interstitial fibrosis are presented to be observed from angiotensinogen-knockout mice hearts. Treatment with candesartan, an inverse agonist for the AT1 receptor is described to prevent the progression of cardiac remodeling.
