Abstract

Pseudostellaria wuyishanensis, a new species from the Wuyishan National Park, Fujian, China, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, Pseudostellaria wuyishanensis resembles P. heterantha. However, the new species can be distinguished by presence of stolons, 1 line of hairs on the stem, smaller leaf blades, shorter pedicels, and ovary with 2 styles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

2. Investigators from Fujian Medical University Release New Data on Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (Lack of Association Between Xrcc1 Snps and Acute Radiation-induced Injury or Prognosis In Patients With Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma).

Abstract

A study conducted by investigators from Fujian Medical University in China examined the association between certain genetic variations in the XRCC1 gene and the response to radiation therapy and prognosis in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The study included 158 patients with NPC who received radiation therapy at Fujian Cancer Hospital. The researchers found no statistically significant association between the genetic variations in the XRCC1 gene and the severity of acute radiation-induced injury or prognosis. However, there was a tendency for the AA genotype of XRCC1-Arg399Gln to be associated with worse progression-free survival. The study concluded that relying solely on these genetic variations may not be sufficient to predict the response to radiation therapy or prognosis in patients with NPC. [Extracted from the article]
