1. Chemical Short-Range Ordering in a CrCoNi Medium-Entropy Alloy

Abstract: The exceptional mechanical strengths of medium and high-entropy alloys have been attributed to hardening in random solid solutions. Here, we evidence non-random chemical mixings in CrCoNi alloys, resulting from short range ordering. A novel data-mining approach of electron nanodiffraction patterns enabled the study, which is assisted by neutron scattering, atom probe tomography, and diffraction simulation using first principles theory models. Results reveal two critical types of short range orders in nanoclusters that minimize the Cr and Cr nearest neighbors (L11) or segregate Cr on alternating close-packed planes (L12). The makeup of ordering-strengthened nanoclusters can be tuned by heat treatments to affect deformation mechanisms. These findings uncover a mixture of bonding preferences and their control at the nanoscopic scale in CrCoNi and provide general opportunities for an atomistic-structure study in concentrated alloys for the design of strong and ductile materials.

Abstract: There exists the phase ambiguity problem in the coherent beam combining (CBC) system with centrosymmetric arrays, which means that multiple different piston aberrations may generate the same far-field image. This will cause that the far-field image can not correctly reflect the phase information, resulting in the performance degradation of image-based intelligent algorithms. In this paper, we make a theoretical analysis on phase ambiguity. To the best of our knowledge, we give the number and descriptions of all solutions of the phase ambiguity problem in above system for the first time. A method to solve phase ambiguity is proposed, which requires no additional optical devices. We designed simulations to verify our conclusions and methods. We believe that our work solves the phase ambiguity problem in theory and is conducive to improving the performance of image-based algorithms. In addition, we designed a two-stage algorithm to generate Bi-beam, which have valuables application in laser propagation., 24 pages, 14 figures

3. BaTiO3 thin films as transitional ferrroelectrics with giant dielectric response

Abstract: Proximity to phase transitions (PTs) is frequently responsible for the largest dielectric susceptibilities in ferroelectrics. The impracticality of using temperature as a control parameter to reach those large responses has motivated the design of solid solutions with phase boundaries between different polar phases at temperatures (typically room temperature) significantly lower than the paraelectric-ferroelectric critical temperature. The flat energy landscapes close to these PTs give rise to polarization rotation under external stimuli, being responsible for the best piezoelectrics so far and a their huge market. But this approach requires complex chemistry to achieve temperature-independent PT boundaries and often involves lead-containing compounds. Here we report that such a bridging state is possible in thin films of chemically simple materials such as BaTiO3. A coexistence of tetragonal, orthorhombic and their bridging low-symmetry phases are shown to be responsible for the continuous vertical polarization rotation, recreating a smear in-transition state and leading to giant temperature-independent dielectric response. These features are distinct from those of single crystals, multi-domain crystals, ceramics or relaxor ferroelectrics, requiring a different description. We believe that other materials can be engineered in a similar way to form a class of ferroelectrics, in which MPB solid solutions are also included, that we propose to coin as transitional ferroelectrics., Limited figure quality. Abstract: In response to Lu et al, (arXiv:1506.02787v1), here we present a detailed writeup concerning the questions raised in their comment on our eprint (arXiv:1505.07451). The key question raised by Lu et al was if the bulk-like charge ordered state becomes indetectable with resonant scattering due to ultrathin film thickness. In this reply, we first detail the relation of our work to past work on the same compound by Staub et al to demonstrate that the presented data are indeed sufficient to support our claims of no charge order on ultra thin films of NdNiO3 (NNO) on NdGaO3 (NGO). Further, we demonstrate that if a well defined charge ordered phase exists in ultra thin films, it is indeed resolvable such as that in EuNiO3 (ENO)., 7 pages, 1 figure

Abstract: In complex materials observed electronic phases and transitions between them often involves coupling between many degrees of freedom whose entanglement convolutes understanding of the instigating mechanism. Metal-insulator transitions are one such problem where coupling to the structural, orbital, charge, and magnetic order parameters frequently obscures the underlying physics. Here, we demonstrate a way to unravel this conundrum by heterostructuring a prototypical multi-ordered complex oxide NdNiO3 in ultra thin geometry, which preserves the metal-to-insulator transition and bulk-like magnetic order parameter, but entirely suppresses the symmetry lowering and charge order parameter. These findings illustrate the utility of heterointerfaces as a powerful method for removing competing order parameters to gain greater insight into the nature of the transition, here revealing that the magnetic order generates the transition independently, leading to a purely electronic Mott metal-insulator transition., 16 pages, 4 Figures

6. Nanostructural features degrading the performance of superconducting radio frequency niobium cavities revealed by TEM and EELS

Abstract: Nanoscale defect structure within the magnetic penetration depth of ~100nm is key to the performance limitations of niobium superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities. Using a unique combination of advanced thermometry during cavity RF measurements, and TEM structural and compositional characterization of the samples extracted from cavity walls, we discover the existence of nanoscale hydrides in electropolished cavities limited by the high field Q slope, and show the decreased hydride formation in the electropolished cavity after 120C baking. Furthermore, we demonstrate that adding 800C hydrogen degassing followed by light buffered chemical polishing restores the hydride formation to the pre-120C bake level. We also show absence of niobium oxides along the grain boundaries and the modifications of the surface oxide upon 120C bake.

Abstract: Interfaces between correlated complex oxides are promising avenues to realize new forms of magnetism that arise as a result of charge transfer, proximity effects and locally broken symmetries. We report upon the discovery of a non-collinear magnetic structure in superlattices of the ferromagnetic metallic oxide La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 (LSMO) and the correlated metal LaNiO3 (LNO). The exchange interaction between LSMO layers is mediated by the intervening LNO, such that the angle between the magnetization of neighboring LSMO layers varies in an oscillatory manner with the thickness of the LNO layer. The magnetic field, temperature, and spacer thickness dependence of the non-collinear structure are inconsistent with the bilinear and biquadratic interactions that are used to model the magnetic structure in conventional metallic multilayers. A model that couples the LSMO layers to a helical spin state within the LNO fits the observed behavior. We propose that the spin-helix results from the interaction between a spatially varying spin susceptibility within the LNO and interfacial charge transfer that creates localized Ni2+ states. This provides a new approach to engineering non-collinear spin textures in metallic oxide heterostructures that can be exploited in devices based on both spin and charge transport.

Abstract: Using $(106\pm4)\times 10^6$ $\psip$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ collider, we present measurements of the branching fractions for psi' decays to $K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{0}$ and $K^{+}K^{-}\eta$. In these final states, the decay $\psi'\to K_2^{*}(1430)^+K^-+c.c.$ is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is measured to be $(7.12\pm{0.62}{\rm (stat.)}^{+1.13}_{-0.61}{\rm (syst.)})\times 10^{-5}$, which indicates a violation of the helicity selection rule in $\psip$ decays. The branching fractions of $\psi'\to K^*(892)^+K^-+c.c., \phi\eta, \phi\pi^0$ are also measured. Abstract: Based on a data sample of 106 M $��^{\prime}$ events collected with the BESIII detector, the decays $��^{\prime}\ar��_{c0, 2}$,$��_{c0, 2}\ar��$ are studied to determine the two-photon widths of the $��_{c0, 2}$ states. The two-photon decay branching fractions are determined to be ${\cal B}(��_{c0}\ar��) = (2.24\pm 0.19\pm 0.12\pm 0.08)\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(��_{c2}\ar��) = (3.21\pm 0.18\pm 0.17\pm 0.13)\times 10^{-4}$. From these, the two-photon widths are determined to be $��_{��}(��_{c0}) = (2.33\pm0.20\pm0.13\pm0.17)$ keV, $��_{��}(��_{c2}) = (0.63\pm0.04\pm0.04\pm0.04)$ keV, and $\cal R$ $=��_{��}(��_{c2})/��_{��}(��_{c0})=0.271\pm 0.029\pm 0.013\pm 0.027$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and those from the PDG ${\cal B}(��^{\prime}\ar��_{c0,2})$ and $��(��_{c0,2})$ errors, respectively. The ratio of the two-photon widths for helicity $��=0$ and helicity $��=2$ components in the decay $��_{c2}\ar��$ is measured for the first time to be $f_{0/2} =��^{��=0}_{��}(��_{c2})/��^{��=2}_{��}(��_{c2}) = 0.00\pm0.02\pm0.02$., 10 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: Using a sample of $(225.2\pm 2.8)\times 10^6$ $J/��$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present results of a study of $J/��\rightarrow ��\bar��$ and report the first observation of the isospin violating decay $J/��\rightarrow��\bar��^{0}+c.c.$, in which $\bar��^{0}$ decays to $��\bar��$. The measured branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}(J/��\rightarrow\bar��^{0}$) = $(1.46\pm0.11\pm0.12) \times10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/��\rightarrow��\bar{��^{0}}$) = $(1.37\pm0.12\pm0.11) \times10^{-5}$. We search for $��(1520) \rightarrow ��$ decay, and find no evident signal, and an upper limit for the product branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(J/��\rightarrow��\bar��(1520)+c.c.)\times \mathcal{B}(��(1520)\rightarrow��), 9 pages, 6 figures; This is a publication-version at Phys. Abstract: The decays $J/��\rightarrow ��^+��^-��^0$ and $J/��\rightarrow ��^0��^0��^0$ are analyzed using a sample of 225 million $\jpsi$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The decay of $��(1405)\ar f_{0}(980)��^0$ with a large isospin violation is observed for the first time. The width of the $f_{0}(980)$ observed in the dipion mass spectra is anomalously narrower than the world average. Abstract: The two-photon transition $��(3686)\to��J/��$ is studied in a sample of 106 million $��(3686)$ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The branching fraction is measured to be $(3.1\pm0.6(\unit{stat})^{+0.8}_{-1.0}(\unit{syst})) \times10^{-4}$ using $J/��\to e^+e^-$ and $J/��\to��^+��^-$ decays, and its upper limit is estimated to be $4.5\times10^{-4}$ at the 90% conference level. This work represents the first measurement of a two-photon transition among charmonium states. The orientation of the $��(3686)$ decay plane and the $J/��$ polarization in this decay are also studied. In addition, the product branching fractions of sequential $E1$ transitions $��(3686)\to��_{cJ}, ��_{cJ}\to��J/��(J=0,1,2)$ are reported., 6 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables

Abstract: We study the decays of the J/psi and psi' mesons to pi+pi-pi0 using data samples at both resonances collected with the BES III detector in 2009. We measure the corresponding branching fractions with unprecedented precision and provide mass spectra and Dalitz plots. The branching fraction for J/psi -> pi+pi-pi0 is determined to be (2.137 +- 0.004 (stat.) +0.058-0.056 (syst.) +0.027-0.026 (norm.))*10-2, and the branching fraction for psi' -> pi+pi-pi0 is measured as (2.14 +- 0.03 (stat.) +0.08-0.07 (syst.) +0.09-0.08 (norm.))*10-4. The J/psi decay is found to be dominated by an intermediate rho(770) state, whereas the psi' decay is dominated by di-pion masses around 2.2 GeV/c2, leading to strikingly different Dalitz distributions., 15 pages, 2 figures

Abstract: Using a sample of 106 million ��(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, we have made the first measurement of the M1 transition between the radially excited charmonium S-wave spin-triplet and the radially excited S-wave spin-singlet states: ��(3686)\to��_c(2S). Analyses of the processes ��(2S)\to ��_c(2S) with ��_c(2S)\to \K_S^0 K��and K^+K^-��^0 gave an ��_c(2S) signal with a statistical significance of greater than 10 standard deviations under a wide range of assumptions about the signal and background properties. The data are used to obtain measurements of the ��_c(2S) mass (M(��_c(2S))=3637.6\pm 2.9_\mathrm{stat}\pm 1.6_\mathrm{sys} MeV/c^2), width (��(��_c(2S))=16.9\pm 6.4_\mathrm{stat}\pm 4.8_\mathrm{sys} MeV), and the product branching fraction (\BR(��(3686)\to ��_c(2S))\times \BR(��_c(2S)\to K\bar K��) = (1.30\pm 0.20_\mathrm{stat}\pm 0.30_\mathrm{sys})\times 10^{-5}). Combining our result with a BaBar measurement of \BR(��_c(2S)\to K\bar K ��), we find the branching fraction of the M1 transition to be \BR(��(3686)\to��_c(2S)) = (6.8\pm 1.1_\mathrm{stat}\pm 4.5_\mathrm{sys})\times 10^{-4}., 7 pages, 1 figure, 1 table

Abstract: The decays $J/��\to p\bar{p}$ and $J/��\to n\bar{n}$ have been investigated with a sample of 225.2 million $J/��$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(J/��\to p\bar{p})=(2.112\pm0.004\pm0.031)\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/��\to n\bar{n})=(2.07\pm0.01\pm0.17)\times10^{-3}$. Distributions of the angle $��$ between the proton or anti-neutron and the beam direction are well described by the form $1+��\cos^2��$, and we find $��=0.595\pm0.012\pm0.015$ for $J/��\to p\bar{p}$ and $��=0.50\pm0.04\pm0.21$ for $J/��\to n\bar{n}$. Abstract: The mass and width of the lowest lying S-wave spin singlet charmonium state, the eta_c, are measured using a data sample of 1.06x10^8 psi' decays collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. We use a model that incorporates interference between the signal reaction, psi' -> gamma eta_c, and a non-resonant radiative background to successfully describe the line shape of the eta_c. We measure the eta_c mass to be 2984.3 +- 0.6 +- 0.6 MeV/c^2 and the total width to be 32.0 +- 1.2 +- 1.0 MeV, where the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic., 7 pages, 1 figure, 1 table, matches Phys. Abstract: Decays of $��_{c1}$ to vector meson pairs $��$, $��$ and $��$ are observed for the first time using $(106\pm4)\times 10^6$ $\psip$ events accumulated at the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fractions are measured to be $(4.4\pm 0.3\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-4}$, $(6.0\pm 0.3\pm 0.7)\times 10^{-4}$, and $(2.2\pm 0.6\pm 0.2)\times 10^{-5}$, for $��_{c1}\to ��$, $��$, and $��$, respectively. The observation of $��_{c1}$ decays into a pair of vector mesons $��$, $��$ and $��$ indicates that the hadron helicity selection rule is significantly violated in $��_{cJ}$ decays. In addition, the measurement of $��_{cJ}\to ��$ gives the rate of doubly OZI-suppressed decay. Abstract: We report investigation on Fe1+yTexSe1-x single crystals by using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). Both nonsuperconducting samples with excess iron and superconducting samples demonstrate nanoscale phase separation and chemical inhomogeneity of Te/Se content, which we attribute to a miscibility gap. The line scan EELS technique indicates ~20% or less fluctuation of Te concentration from the nominal compositions.

19. Instability, Intermixing and Electronic Structure at the Epitaxial LaAlO3/SrTiO3(001) Heterojunction

Abstract: The question of stability against diffusional mixing at the prototypical LaAlO3/SrTiO3(001) interface is explored using a multi-faceted experimental and theoretical approach. We combine analytical methods with a range of sensitivities to elemental concentrations and spatial separations to investigate interfaces grown using on-axis pulsed laser deposition. We also employ computational modeling based on the density function theory as well as classical force fields to explore the energetic stability of a wide variety of intermixed atomic configurations relative to the idealized, atomically abrupt model. Statistical analysis of the calculated energies for the various configurations is used to elucidate the relative thermodynamic stability of intermixed and abrupt configurations. We find that on both experimental and theoretical fronts, the tendency toward intermixing is very strong. We have also measured and calculated key electronic properties such as the presence of electric fields and the value of the valence band discontinuity at the interface. We find no measurable electric field in either the LaAlO3 or SrTiO3, and that the valence band offset is near zero, partitioning the band discontinuity almost entirely to the conduction band edge. Moreover, we find that it is not possible to account for these electronic properties theoretically without including extensive intermixing in our physical model of the interface. The atomic configurations which give the greatest electrostatic stability are those that eliminate the interface dipole by intermixing, calling into question the conventional explanation for conductivity at this interface - electronic reconstruction. Rather, evidence is presented for La indiffusion and doping of the SrTiO3 below the interface as being the cause of the observed conductivity.

Abstract: We present a systematic analysis of two-pion interferometry in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 62.4 GeV and Cu+Cu collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 62.4 and 200 GeV using the STAR detector at RHIC. The multiplicity and transverse momentum dependences of the extracted correlation lengths (radii) are studied. The scaling with charged particle multiplicity of the apparent system volume at final interaction is studied for the RHIC energy domain. Abstract: We report results for $K/\pi$ fluctuations from Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 19.6, 62.4, 130, and 200 GeV using the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Our results for $K/\pi$ fluctuations in central collisions show little dependence on the incident energies studied and are on the same order as results observed by NA49 at the Super Proton Synchrotron in central Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 12.3 and 17.3 GeV. We also report results for the collision centrality dependence of $K/\pi$ fluctuations as well as results for $K^{+}/\pi^{+}$, $K^{-}/\pi^{-}$, $K^{+}/\pi^{-}$, and $K^{-}/\pi^{+}$ fluctuations. We observe that the $K/\pi$ fluctuations scale with the multiplicity density, $dN/d\eta$, rather than the number of participating nucleons., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: Forward-backward multiplicity correlation strengths have been measured with the STAR detector for Au+Au and $\textit{p+p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. Strong short and long range correlations (LRC) are seen in central Au+Au collisions. The magnitude of these correlations decrease with decreasing centrality until only short range correlations are observed in peripheral Au+Au collisions. Both the Dual Parton Model (DPM) and the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) predict the existence of the long range correlations. In the DPM the fluctuation in the number of elementary (parton) inelastic collisions produces the LRC. In the CGC longitudinal color flux tubes generate the LRC. The data is in qualitative agreement with the predictions from the DPM and indicates the presence of multiple parton interactions., 6 pages, 3 figures The abstract has been slightly modified

Abstract: The results of mid-rapidity ($0 < y < 0.8$) neutral pion spectra over an extended transverse momentum range ($1 < p_T < 12$ GeV/$c$) in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions, measured by the STAR experiment, are presented. The neutral pions are reconstructed from photons measured either by the STAR Barrel Electro-Magnetic Calorimeter (BEMC) or by the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) via tracking of conversion electron-positron pairs. Our measurements are compared to previously published $��^{\pm}$ and $��^0$ results. The nuclear modification factors $R_{\mathrm{CP}}$ and $R_{\mathrm{AA}}$ of $��^0$ are also presented as a function of $p_T$ . In the most central Au+Au collisions, the binary collision scaled $��^0$ yield at high $p_T$ is suppressed by a factor of about 5 compared to the expectation from the yield of p+p collisions. Such a large suppression is in agreement with previous observations for light quark mesons and is consistent with the scenario that partons suffer considerable energy loss in the dense medium formed in central nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC., 10 pages, 9 figures. submitted to Physical Review C

24. Energy Dependence of Directed Flow in Au+Au Collisions from a Multi-phase Transport Model

Abstract: The directed flow of charged hadron and identified particles has been studied in the framework of a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model, for $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$200, 130, 62.4, 39, 17.2 and 9.2 GeV. The rapidity, centrality and energy dependence of directed flow for charged particles over a wide rapidity range are presented. AMPT model gives the correct $v_1(y)$ slope, as well as its trend as a function of energy, while it underestimates the magnitude. Within the AMPT model, the proton $v_1$ slope is found to change its sign when the energy increases to 130 GeV - a feature that is consistent with ``anti-flow''. Hadronic re-scattering is found having little effect on $v_1$ at top RHIC energies. These studies can help us to understand the collective dynamics at early times in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, and they can also be served as references for the RHIC Beam Energy Scan program., Comment: 5 pages,4 figures

Abstract: We report precision measurements of the Feynman-x dependence, and first measurements of the transverse momentum dependence, of transverse single spin asymmetries for the production of \pi^0 mesons from polarized proton collisions at \sqrt{s}=200 GeV. The x_F dependence of the results is in fair agreement with perturbative QCD model calculations that identify orbital motion of quarks and gluons within the proton as the origin of the spin effects. Results for the p_T dependence at fixed x_F are not consistent with pQCD-based calculations., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: We measure directed flow ($v_1$) for charged particles in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =$ 200 GeV and 62.4 GeV, as a function of pseudorapidity ($\eta$), transverse momentum ($p_t$) and collision centrality, based on data from the STAR experiment. We find that the directed flow depends on the incident energy but, contrary to all existing models, not on the size of the colliding system at a given centrality. We extend the validity of the limiting fragmentation concept to different collision systems, and investigate possible explanations for the observed sign change in $v_1(p_t)$., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Phys. Abstract: The transverse momentum and pseudorapidity dependences of partonic {`\it{Mach-like}'} shock wave have been studied by using a multi-phase transport model (AMPT) with both partonic and hadronic interactions. The splitting parameter $D$, i.e. half distance between two splitting peaks on away side in di-hadron azimuthal angular ($\Delta\phi$) correlations, slightly increases with the transverse momentum of associated hadrons ($p^{assoc}_T$), which is consistent with preliminary experimental trend, owing to different interaction-lengths/numbers between wave partons and medium in strong parton cascade. On the other hand, the splitting parameter $D$ as a function of pseudorapidity of associated hadrons ($\eta^{assoc}$), keeps flat in mid-pseudorapidity region and rapidly drops in high-pseudorapidity region, which is as a result of different violent degrees of jet-medium interactions in the medium that has different energy densities in the longitudinal direction. Abstract: Superlattices of (LaMnO3)2n/(SrMnO3)n (n=1 to 5), composed of the insulators LaMnO3 and SrMnO3, undergo a metal-insulator transition as a function of n, being metallic for n=3. Measurements of transport, magnetization and polarized neutron reflectivity reveal that the ferromagnetism is relatively uniform in the metallic state, and is strongly modulated in the insulating state, being high in LaMnO3 and suppressed in SrMnO3. The modulation is consistent with a Mott transition driven by the proximity between the (LaMnO3)/(SrMnO3) interfaces. Disorder localizes states at the Fermi level at the interfaces for n>=3. Abstract: Polarized neutron reflectivity measurements of a ferromagnetic [(LaMnO$_3$)$_{11.8}$/(SrMnO$_3$)$_{4.4}$]$_6$ superlattice reveal a modulated magnetic structure with an enhanced magnetization at the interfaces where LaMnO$_3$ was deposited on SrMnO$_3$ (LMO/SMO). However, the opposite interfaces (SMO/LMO) are found to have a reduced ferromagnetic moment. The magnetic asymmetry arises from the difference in lateral structural roughness of the two interfaces observed via electron microscopy, with strong ferromagnetism present at the interfaces that are atomically smooth over tens of nanometers. This result demonstrates that atomic-scale roughness can destabilize interfacial phases in complex oxide heterostructures., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: In a framework of a multi-phase transport model with both partonic and hadronic interactions, azimuthal correlations between trigger particles and associated scattering particles in Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV/$c$ have been studied by the mixing-event technique. The Mach-like structure has been observed in correlation function for central collisions. It is shown that the Mach-like structure is basically born in the partonic process and further developed in hadronic rescattering process. However, hadronic rescattering alone cannot reproduce the amplitude of Mach-like cone on away side, therefore partonic cascade process is necessary to describe the amplitude of Mach-like cone on away side in experiment. In addition, three-particle correlations have been investigated in central Au + Au collisions with the AMPT model, and the results support the conclusion that partonic cascade processes enhance the opening angle of Mach-like cone structures., Proceeding of "22nd Winter Workshop onn Nuclear Dynamics", La Jolla, California, USA. Abstract: We report measurements of transverse momentum $p_t$ spectra for ten event multiplicity classes of p-p collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 200$ GeV. By analyzing the multiplicity dependence we find that the spectrum shape can be decomposed into a part with amplitude proportional to multiplicity and described by a L\'evy distribution on transverse mass $m_t$, and a part with amplitude proportional to multiplicity squared and described by a gaussian distribution on transverse rapidity $y_t$. The functional forms of the two parts are nearly independent of event multiplicity. The two parts can be identified with the soft and hard components of a two-component model of p-p collisions. This analysis then provides the first isolation of the hard component of the $p_t$ spectrum as a distribution of simple form on $y_t$., Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures

Abstract: We report the measurements of $\Sigma (1385)$ and $\Lambda (1520)$ production in $p+p$ and $Au+Au$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV from the STAR collaboration. The yields and the $p_{T}$ spectra are presented and discussed in terms of chemical and thermal freeze-out conditions and compared to model predictions. Thermal and microscopic models do not adequately describe the yields of all the resonances produced in central $Au+Au$ collisions. Our results indicate that there may be a time-span between chemical and thermal freeze-out during which elastic hadronic interactions occur., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, Phys. Rev. Abstract: We report a measurement of the longitudinal double-spin asymmetry A_LL and the differential cross section for inclusive midrapidity jet production in polarized proton collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV. The cross section data cover transverse momenta 5 < pT < 50 GeV/c and agree with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD evaluations. The A_LL data cover 5 < pT < 17 GeV/c and disfavor at 98% C.L. maximal positive gluon polarization in the polarized nucleon., 6 pages, 3 figures. Minor changes from review process in Phys. Rev. Lett. Abstract: The time evolution of Mach-like structure (the splitting of the away side peak in di-hadron $\Delta\phi$ correlation) is presented in the framework of a dynamical partonic transport model. With the increasing of the lifetime of partonic matter, Mach-like structure can be produced and developed by strong parton cascade process. Not only the splitting parameter but also the number of associated hadrons ($N_{h}^{assoc}$) increases with the lifetime of partonic matter and partonic interaction cross section. Both the explosion of $N_{h}^{assoc}$ following the formation of Mach-like structure and the corresponding results of three-particle correlation support that a partonic Mach-like shock wave can be formed by strong parton cascade mechanism. Therefore, the studies about Mach-like structure may give us some critical information, such as the lifetime of partonic matter and hadronization time., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: The effect of hadronic rescattering on the elliptic flow has been investigated by the Cooper-Frye hadronization model from hydrodynamic evolution following by the afterburner hadronic rescattering model for 200 GeV/c Au + Au at 20-40% centrality. It is found that the hadronic rescattering can suppress elliptic flow $v_2$ in momentum space especially in lower transverse momentum region. In addition, the hadronic rescattering effects on transverse momentum spectra and anisotropy coordinate space of hadrons are studied., 6 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: We report on the first measurement of elliptic flow $v_2(p_T)$ of multi-strange baryons $\Xi+\bar{Xi}$ and $\Omega+\bar{Omega} in heavy-ion collisions. In minimum bias Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV, a significant amount of elliptic flow, comparable to other non-strange baryons, is observed for multi-strange baryons which are expected to be particularly sensitive to the dynamics of the partonic stage of heavy-ion collisions. The $p_T$ dependence of $v_2$ of the multi-strange baryons confirms the number of constituent quark scaling previously observed for lighter hadrons. Abstract: The Glauber theory has been used to investigate the reaction cross section of proton-rich nucleus $^{23}$Al. A core plus a proton structure is assumed for $^{23}$Al. HO-type density distribution is used for the core while the density distribution for the valence proton is calculated by solving the eigenvalue problem of Woods-Saxon potential. The transparency function in an analytical expression is obtained adopting multi-Gaussian expansion for the density distribution. Coulomb correction and finite-range interaction are introduced. This modified Glauber model is apt for halo nuclei. A dominate s-wave is suggested for the last proton in $^{23}$Al from our analysis which is possible in the RMF calculation., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: Based on A Multi-Phase Transport model, the elliptic flow $v_{2}$ of $��$ mesons which is reconstructed from $K^{+}K^{-}$ at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) energy has been studied. The results show that reconstructed $v_{2}$ of $��$ meson can keep the earlier information before $��$ decays and it seems to obey the number of constituent quark scaling as other mesons and baryons. 39. Lamellar phase separation and dynamic competition in La0.23Ca0.77MnO3

Abstract: We report the coexistence of lamellar charge-ordered (CO) and charge-disordered (CD) domains, and their dynamical behavior, in La0.23Ca0.77MnO3. Using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we show that below Tcd~170K a CD-monoclinic phase forms within the established CO-orthorhombic matrix. The CD phase has a sheet-like morphology, perpendicular to the q vector of the CO superlattice (a axis of the Pnma structure). For temperatures between 64K and 130K, both the TEM and resistivity experiments show a dynamic competition between the two phases: at constant T, the CD phase slowly advances over the CO one. This slow dynamics appears to be linked to the magnetic transitions occurring in this compound, suggesting important magnetoelastic effects., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: The $��$-scaling method has been applied to the total multiplicity distribution of the relativistic ion collisions of p+p, C+C and Pb+Pb which were simulated by a Monte Carlo package, LUCIAE 3.0. It is found that the $��$-scaling parameter decreases with the increasing of the system size. Abstract: Electron microdiffraction study of phase transition in La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 revealed temperature dependent (h+1/2,0,l) diffraction spots. Their intensity peaks at Tc. Quantitative electron diffraction intensity analysis shows that they come from nanometer-sized domains with modulated transverse atomic displacements in the orthorhombic a-c plane, which has two types of Mn ions and thus charge ordering. The average domain is ~3.6 nm in diameter and ~1.5 nm in height (along the b-axis). Abstract: We report measurements of charmed hadron production from hadronic ($D^{0}\rightarrow K\pi$) and semileptonic ($\mu$ and $e$) decays in 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Analysis of the spectra indicates that charmed hadrons have a different radial flow pattern from light or multi-strange hadrons. Charm cross sections at mid-rapidity are extracted by combining the three independent measurements, covering the transverse momentum range that contributes to $\sim$90% of the integrated cross section. The cross sections scale with number of binary collisions of the initial nucleons, a signature of charm production exclusively at the initial impact of colliding heavy ions. The implications for charm quark interaction and thermalization in the strongly interacting matter are discussed., Comment: 6 pages and 4 figures.
