We calculate the complete two-loop QCD amplitudes for hadronic $tW$ production by combining analytical and numerical techniques. The amplitudes have been first reduced to master integrals of eight planar and seven non-planar families, which can contain at most four massive propagators. Then a rational transformation of the master integrals is found to obtain a good basis so that the dimensional parameter decouples from the kinematic variables in the denominators of reduction coefficients. The master integrals are computed by solving their differential equations numerically. We find that the finite part of the two-loop squared amplitude is stable in the bulk of the phase space. After phase space integration and convolution with the parton distributions, it increases the LO cross section by about $3\%$., 12 pages, 6 figures

Discriminating the Higgs production mechanisms plays a crucial role in directly measuring the couplings of Higgs to gauge bosons for probing the nature of the electroweak symmetry breaking. We propose a novel method to distinguish the Higgs production mechanisms at the LHC by utilizing the jet charge asymmetry of the two leading forward jets in Higgs plus two jets production. This novel observable provides a way to disentangle the $W$-fusion from the $Z$-fusion and gluon fusion processes for the first time, due to the electric charge correlation of the two leading jets in the events. We show that the Higgs couplings to gauge bosons can be well constrained and its conclusion does not depend on the other possible new physics effects which modify the Higgs total or partial width. We also discuss the complementary roles between the proposed jet charge asymmetry measurement and the Higgs signal strength measurements at the HL-LHC in determining the Higgs couplings., 6 pages, 5 figures

We outline the physics opportunities provided by the Electron Ion Collider (EIC). These include the study of the parton structure of the nucleon and nuclei, the onset of gluon saturation, the production of jets and heavy flavor, hadron spectroscopy and tests of fundamental symmetries. We review the present status and future challenges in EIC theory that have to be addressed in order to realize this ambitious and impactful physics program, including how to engage a diverse and inclusive workforce. In order to address these many-fold challenges, we propose a coordinated effort involving theory groups with differing expertise is needed. Centrality-dependent measurements of hadron and jet cross section attenuation in deep inelastic scattering on nuclei can shed new light on the physics of final-state interactions in the nuclear matter, including the path-length dependence of the in-medium parton shower formation and evolution. Recent simulation studies have demonstrated the feasibility of experimental centrality determination in $e$A reactions at the electron-ion collider via neutron detection in the zero-degree calorimeter. Motivated by these results, we present the first theoretical calculation of the production rate modification for hadrons and jets in central and peripheral $e$Pb collisions. We find that the variation in the suppression of inclusive jet cross section as a function of centrality is less than a factor of two. In more differential measurements, such as the distribution of hadrons versus the hadronization fraction $z_h$, the difference can be enhanced up to an order of magnitude., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

We propose to utilize the average jet charge weighted single-spin asymmetry $A_e^{bQ}$ in the neutral current DIS scattering with one $b$-tagged jet produced at the EIC to probe the $Zb\bar{b}$ interactions. This novel observable is sensitive to the axial-vector component of the $Zb\bar{b}$ coupling and is complementary to the single-spin asymmetry measurement at the EIC and the $gg\to Zh$ cross section measurement at the HL-LHC in the determination of the $Zb\bar{b}$ couplings. We show that the apparent degeneracy of the $Zb\bar{b}$ couplings, implied by the LEP and SLC precision electroweak data, can be broken by the $A_e^{bQ}$ measurement at the EIC. With a large enough integrated luminosity collected at the EIC, the measurement of $A_e^{bQ}$ could also resolve the long-standing discrepancy of $A_{\rm FB}^b$ at the LEP, strongly dependent on the $b$-tagging efficiency., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, published version

We present an operator based factorization formula for the transverse energy-energy correlator (TEEC) hadron collider event shape in the back-to-back (dijet) limit. This factorization formula exhibits a remarkably symmetric form, being a projection onto a scattering plane of a more standard transverse momentum dependent factorization. Soft radiation is incorporated through a dijet soft function, which can be elegantly obtained to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) due to the symmetries of the problem. We present numerical results for the TEEC resummed to next-to-next-to-leading logarithm (NNLL) matched to fixed order at the LHC. Our results constitute the first NNLL resummation for a dijet event shape observable at a hadron collider, and the first analytic result for a hadron collider dijet soft function at NNLO. We anticipate that the theoretical simplicity of the TEEC observable will make it indispensable for precision studies of QCD at the LHC, and as a playground for theoretical studies of factorization and its violation., 5 pages + Supplemental Material

The two-prong structure related to the leading subjets inside a reconstructed jet opens new avenues toward precision constraints on the in-medium modification of parton showers. In this talk, we present the first resummed calculation of the soft-dropped groomed momentum sharing distribution, or the jet splitting function, in heavy-ion collisions for both light jets and heavy flavor tagged jets. Existing light jet splitting function data from the STAR experiment at RHIC and the CMS experiment at LHC can be understood in the unified framework of soft-collinear effective theory with Glauber gluon interactions. For heavy flavor jets, very interestingly, the momentum sharing distribution of b-tagged jets is more strongly modified in comparison to the one for light jets, which provides a novel handle on mass corrections to in-medium parton showers that are at present difficult to constraint using inclusive heavy meson production., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, Proceedings of Hard Probes 2018, 30 September-5 October, Aix-Les-Bains, France

T-odd correlations in $Wj$ production at the LHC have been studied recently as a way to measure a phase produced by QCD at NLO by Frederix et. al. That study found that the induced asymmetry could be observed with 20 fb$^{-1}$ of 8 TeV data. These T-odd asymmetries can also be induced by CP violating new physics interfering with the SM at LO. In this paper we study this possibility using effective Lagrangians to describe the new physics. We find that the leading contribution arises at dimension eight, and that it necessarily introduces flavor changing neutral currents as well. We discuss the constraints that can be placed on the flavor structure of the new physics operator from studies of FCNC in kaon and B meson decays and then compare the T-odd correlations in $Wj$ induced by CP violating new physics to those induced by QCD at NLO. We study the factorization and resummation of the $t\bar{t}W^\pm$ production at hadron colliders. The cross section in the threshold limit can be factorized into a convolution of hard and soft functions and parton distribution functions with the soft-collinear effective theory. We calculate the next-to-leading order soft function for the associated production of the heavy quark pair and colorless particle, and we perform the resummation calculation with the next-to-next-to-leading logarithms accuracy. Our results show that the resummation effects reduce the dependence of the cross section on the scales significantly and increase the total cross section by $7-13\%$ compared with NLO QCD results., 23 pages, 7 figures and 2 tables; final version in PRD

We present a detailed study of the same-sign top pair production mediated by a non-universal $Z^\prime$ including production and decay at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the QCD next-to-leading order (NLO) level, using the narrow width approximation and helicity amplitudes method. We find that the QCD NLO corrections can loose the constraint on the model parameters and reduce the dependence of the total cross sections on the factorization scale significantly. We also study the signature and backgrounds of the process at the NLO level. In this paper, we investigate the localization and the mass spectra of gravity and various bulk matter fields on a thick anti-de Sitter (AdS) brane, by presenting the mass-independent potentials of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes in the corresponding Schr\"{o}dinger equations. For gravity, the potential of the KK modes tends to infinity at the boundaries of the extra dimension, which leads to an infinite number of the bound KK modes. Although the gravity zero mode cannot be localized on the AdS brane, the massive modes are trapped on the brane. The scalar perturbations of the thick AdS brane have been analyzed, and the brane is stable under the scalar perturbations. For spin-0 scalar fields and spin-1 vector fields, the potentials of the KK modes also tend to infinity at the boundaries of the extra dimension, and the characteristic of the localization is the same as the case of gravity. For spin-1/2 fermions, by introducing the usual Yukawa coupling $\eta\bar{\Psi}\phi\Psi$ with the positive coupling constant $\eta$, the four-dimensional massless left-chiral fermion and massive Dirac fermions are obtained on the AdS thick brane., Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures

We present the first full analytic results of next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to the top-quark decay width $\Gamma(t\to Wb)$ by calculating the imaginary part of three-loop top-quark self-energy diagrams. The results are all expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms and valid in the whole region $0\le m_W^2\le m_t^2$. The expansions in the $m_W^2\to 0$ and $m_W^2\to m_t^2$ limits coincide with previous studies. Our results can also be taken as the exact prediction for the lepton invariant mass spectrum in semileptonic $b\to u$ decays. We also analytically compute the decay width including the off-shell $W$ boson effect up to NNLO in QCD for the first time. Combining these contributions with electroweak corrections and the finite $b$-quark mass effect, we determine the most precise top-quark width to be 1.331 GeV for $m_t=172.69$ GeV. The total theoretical uncertainties including those from renormalization scale choice, top-quark renormalization scheme, input parameters and missing higher-order corrections are scrutinized and found to be less than $1\%$., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures
