1. Field-tunable Weyl points and large anomalous Hall effects in degenerate magnetic semiconductor EuMg$_2$Bi$_2$

Abstract: Magnets, with topologically-nontrivial Dirac/Weyl points, have recently attracted significant attention owing to the unconventional physical properties, such as large anomalous Hall effects. However, they typically have a high carrier density and complicated band structure near the Fermi energy. In this study, we report degenerate magnetic semiconductor EuMg$_2$Bi$_2$, which exhibits a single valley at the $\Gamma$ point, where the field-tunable Weyl points form via the magnetic exchange interaction with the local Eu spins. By the high-field measurements on high-quality single crystals, we observed the quantum oscillations in resistivity, elastic constant, and surface impedance, which enabled us to determine the position of the Fermi energy. In combination with the first-principles calculation, we revealed that the Weyl points are located in the vicinity of the Fermi energy when the Eu spins are fully polarized. Furthermore, we observed large anomalous Hall effect (Hall angle $\Theta_{\mathrm{AH}}\sim0.07$) in the forced ferromagnetic phase, which is consistent with this field variation of band structure., Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures

2. Magnetic-field and pressure phase diagram of the triangular lattice antiferromagnet CsCuCl$_3$ clarified by magnetic susceptibility measured with a proximity detector oscillator

Abstract: The effect of pressure ($P$) on magnetic susceptibility of CsCuCl$_3$ was examined in magnetic fields ($\rm \mu_0$$H$) of up to 51 T using a proximity detector oscillator (PDO), and the $H$-$P$ phase diagram of CsCuCl$_3$ was constructed over the saturation field ($H_{\rm sat}$). We found that, with increasing $P$, $H_{\rm sat}$ increases and the uud-phase that appeared at $P$ = 0.7 GPa widened. Based on comparison between the experimental and calculated $H$-$P$ phase diagrams, the Y-phase was predicted to appear above 1.7 GPa. The interchain antiferromagnetic exchange interaction in the $ab$-plane was evaluated and found to increase with increasing $P$, which is consistent with a previous study under high pressure [D. Yamamoto {\it et al.}, Nat. Commun. {\bf 12}, 4263 (2021).]. Moreover, an anomaly was observed below $P$ = 0.6 GPa just below $H_{\rm sat}$ and might be a new phase transition derived from nonlinear response caused by the PDO technique., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: We report $^{51}$V nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements on a quasi-1D antiferromagnet BaCo$_2$V$_2$O$_8$ under transverse field along the [010] direction. The scaling behavior of the spin-lattice relaxation rate above the N\'{e}el temperatures unveils a 1D quantum critical point (QCP) at $H_c^{1D}\approx 4.7$ T, which is masked by the 3D magnetic order. With the aid of accurate analytical analysis and numerical calculations, we show that the zone center INS spectrum at $H_c^{1D}$ is precisely described by the pattern of the 1D quantum Ising model in a magnetic field, a class of universality described in terms of the exceptional $E_8$ Lie algebra. These excitations keep to be non-diffusive over a certain field range when the system is away from the 1D QCP. Our results provide an unambiguous experimental realization of the massive $E_8$ phase in the compound, and open new experimental route for exploring the dynamics of quantum integrable systems as well as physics beyond integrability., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures. 4. Field-induced quantum magnetism in the verdazyl-based charge-transfer salt $[$$o$-MePy-V-($p$-Br)$_2]$FeCl$_4$

Abstract: We successfully synthesized a verdazyl-based charge-transfer salt $[$$o$-MePy-V-($p$-Br)$_2]$FeCl$_4$, which has an $S_{\rm{V}}$=1/2 on the radical $o$-MePy-V-($p$-Br)$_2$ and an $S_{\rm{Fe}}$=5/2 on the FeCl$_4$ anion. $Ab$ $initio$ molecular orbital calculations indicate the formation of an $S_{\rm{V}}$=1/2 honeycomb lattice composed of three types of exchange interaction with two types of inequivalent site. Further, the $S_{\rm{V}}$=1/2 at one site is sandwiched by $S_{\rm{Fe}}$=5/2 spins through antiferromagnetic (AF) interactions. The magnetic properties indicate that the dominant AF interactions between the $S_{\rm{V}}$ = 1/2 spins form a gapped singlet state, and the remaining $S_{\rm{Fe}}$ = 5/2 spins cause an AF order. The magnetization curve exhibits a linear increase up to approximately 7 T, and an unconventional 5/6 magnetization plateau appears between 7 T and 40 T. We discuss the differences between the effective interactions associated with the magnetic properties of the present compound and ($o$-MePy-V)FeCl$_4$. We explain the low-field linear magnetization curve through a mean-field approximation of an $S_{\rm{Fe}}$ = 5/2 spin model. At higher field regions, the 5/6 magnetization plateau and subsequent nonlinear increase are reproduced by the $S_{\rm{V}}$ = 1/2 AF dimer, in which a particular internal field is applied to one of the spin sites. The ESR resonance signals in the low-temperature and low-field regime are explained by conventional two-sublattice AF resonance modes with easy-axis anisotropy. These results demonstrate that exchange interactions between $S_{\rm{V}}$ = 1/2 and $S_{\rm{Fe}}$ = 5/2 spins in $[$$o$-MePy-V-($p$-Br)$_2]$FeCl$_4$ realize unconventional magnetic properties with low-field classical behavior and field-induced quantum behavior., arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1706.07546

Abstract: We present a new model compound with the S = 1/2 frustrated square lattice composed of the charge-transfer salt (o-MePy-V)PF6. Ab initio calculations indicate the formation of an S = 1/2 square lattice, in which six types of nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic- and antiferromagnetic interactions cause frustration. By applying a magnetic field, we observe an unusually gradual increase of magnetization and a subsequent 1/2-plateau-like behavior. A numerical analysis using the tensor network method qualitatively demonstrates such behaviors and suggests a collinear ordered state and a field-enhanced quantum fluctuation. Abstract: We observe a disappearance of the 1/3 magnetization plateau and a striking change of the magnetic configuration under a moderate doping of the model triangular antiferromagnet RbFe(MoO4)2. The reason is an effective lifting of degeneracy of mean-field ground states by a random potential of impurities, which compensates, in the low temperature limit, the fluctuation contribution to free energy. These results provide a direct experimental confirmation of the fluctuation origin of the ground state in a real frustrated system. The change of the ground state to a least collinear configuration reveals an effective positive biquadratic exchange provided by the structural disorder. Abstract: Measurements of midrapidity charged particle multiplicity distributions, $dN_{\rm ch}/d\eta$, and midrapidity transverse-energy distributions, $dE_T/d\eta$, are presented for a variety of collision systems and energies. Included are distributions for Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$, 130, 62.4, 39, 27, 19.6, 14.5, and 7.7 GeV, Cu$+$Cu collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ and 62.4 GeV, Cu$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV, U$+$U collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=193$ GeV, $d$$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV, $^{3}$He$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV, and $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV. Centrality-dependent distributions at midrapidity are presented in terms of the number of nucleon participants, $N_{\rm part}$, and the number of constituent quark participants, $N_{q{\rm p}}$. For all $A$$+$$A$ collisions down to $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=7.7$ GeV, it is observed that the midrapidity data are better described by scaling with $N_{q{\rm p}}$ than scaling with $N_{\rm part}$. Abstract: We report on high-field electron spin resonance (ESR) studies of magnetic excitations in the spin-1/2 triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$. Frequency-field diagrams of ESR excitations are measured for different orientations of magnetic fields up to 25 T. We show that the substantial zero-field energy gap, $\Delta\approx9.5$ K, observed in the low-temperature excitation spectrum of Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$ [Zvyagin $et~al.$, Phys. Rev. Lett. 112, 077206 (2014)], is present well above $T_N$. Noticeably, the transition into the long-range magnetically ordered phase does not significantly affect the size of the gap, suggesting that even below $T_N$ the high-energy spin dynamics in Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$ is determined by short-range-order spin correlations. Abstract: We have studied the dependence of azimuthal anisotropy $v_2$ for inclusive and identified charged hadrons in Au$+$Au and Cu$+$Cu collisions on collision energy, species, and centrality. The values of $v_2$ as a function of transverse momentum $p_T$ and centrality in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$=200 GeV and 62.4 GeV are the same within uncertainties. However, in Cu$+$Cu collisions we observe a decrease in $v_2$ values as the collision energy is reduced from 200 to 62.4 GeV. The decrease is larger in the more peripheral collisions. By examining both Au$+$Au and Cu$+$Cu collisions we find that $v_2$ depends both on eccentricity and the number of participants, $N_{\rm part}$. We observe that $v_2$ divided by eccentricity ($\varepsilon$) monotonically increases with $N_{\rm part}$ and scales as ${N_{\rm part}^{1/3}}$. The Cu$+$Cu data at 62.4 GeV falls below the other scaled $v_{2}$ data. Abstract: Spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets Cs$_2$CuCl$_4$ and Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$ with distorted triangular-lattice structures are studied by means of electron spin resonance spectroscopy in magnetic fields up to the saturation field and above. In the magnetically saturated phase, quantum fluctuations are fully suppressed, and the spin dynamics is defined by ordinary magnons. This allows us to accurately describe the magnetic excitation spectra in both materials and, using the harmonic spin-wave theory, to determine their exchange parameters. The viability of the proposed method was proven by applying it to Cs$_2$CuCl$_4$, yielding $J/k_B=4.7(2)$ K, $J'/k_B=1.42(7)$ K [$J'/J\simeq 0.30$] and revealing good agreement with inelastic neutron-scattering results. For the isostructural Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$, we obtain $J/k_B=14.9(7)$ K, $J'/k_B=6.1(3)$ K, [$J'/J\simeq 0.41$], providing exact and conclusive information on the exchange couplings in this frustrated spin system., Accepted for publication in Phys. Abstract: Measurements of the midrapidity transverse energy distribution, $d\Et/d\eta$, are presented for $p$$+$$p$, $d$$+$Au, and Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV and additionally for Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=62.4$ and 130 GeV. The $d\Et/d\eta$ distributions are first compared with the number of nucleon participants $N_{\rm part}$, number of binary collisions $N_{\rm coll}$, and number of constituent-quark participants $N_{qp}$ calculated from a Glauber model based on the nuclear geometry. For Au$+$Au, $\mean{d\Et/d\eta}/N_{\rm part}$ increases with $N_{\rm part}$, while $\mean{d\Et/d\eta}/N_{qp}$ is approximately constant for all three energies. This indicates that the two component ansatz, $dE_{T}/d\eta \propto (1-x) N_{\rm part}/2 + x N_{\rm coll}$, which has been used to represent $E_T$ distributions, is simply a proxy for $N_{qp}$, and that the $N_{\rm coll}$ term does not represent a hard-scattering component in $E_T$ distributions. The $dE_{T}/d\eta$ distributions of Au$+$Au and $d$$+$Au are then calculated from the measured $p$$+$$p$ $E_T$ distribution using two models that both reproduce the Au$+$Au data. However, while the number-of-constituent-quark-participant model agrees well with the $d$$+$Au data, the additive-quark model does not., Comment: 391 authors, 24 pages, 19 figures, and 15 Tables. Abstract: We have measured high-field magnetization and magnetoresistance of polycrystalline samples of the A-site ordered perovskite CaCu3Ti4-xRuxO12 (x=0 - 4) utilizing a non-destructive pulsed magnet. We find that the magnetization for x=0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 is nonlinear, and tends to saturate in high fields. This is highly nontrivial because the magnetization for x=0 and 4 is linear in external field up to the highest one. We have analyzed this field dependence based on the thermodynamics of magnetic materials, and propose that the external fields delocalize the holes on the Cu2+ ions in order to maximize the entropy. This scenario is qualitatively consistent with a large magnetoresistance of -70% observed at 4.2 K at 52 T for x=1.5., 13 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: Transverse momentum (p^e_T) spectra of electrons from semileptonic weak decays of heavy flavor mesons in the range of 0.3 < p^e_T < 9.0 GeV/c have been measured at mid-rapidity (|eta| < 0.35) by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider in p+p and Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV. The nuclear modification factor R_AA with respect to p+p collisions indicates substantial energy loss of heavy quarks in the produced medium. In addition, the azimuthal anisotropy parameter v_2 has been measured for 0.3 < p^e_T < 5.0 GeV/c in Au+Au collisions. Abstract: The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has measured omega meson production via leptonic and hadronic decay channels in p+p, d+Au, Cu+Cu, and Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV. The invariant transverse momentum spectra measured in different decay modes give consistent results. Measurements in the hadronic decay channel in Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions show that omega production has a suppression pattern at high transverse momentum, similar to that of pi^0 and eta in central collisions, but no suppression is observed in peripheral collisions. The nuclear modification factors, R_AA, are consistent in Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions at similar numbers of participant nucleons., 542 authors, pages, 11 figures, 3 tables. Submitted to Phys. Rev. C. 15. Manifestations of multiple-carrier charge transport in the magnetostructurally ordered phase of undoped BaFe$_2$As$_2$

Abstract: We investigated the transport properties of BaFe$_2$As$_2$ single crystals before and after annealing with BaAs powder. The annealing remarkably improves transport properties, in particular the magnitude of residual resistivity which decreases by a factor of more than 10. From the resistivity measurement on detwinned crystals we found that the anisotropy of the in-plane resistivity is remarkably diminished after annealing, indicative of dominant contributions to the charge transport from the carriers with isotropic and high mobility below magnetostructural transition temperature $T_{\rm s}$ and the absence of nematic state above $T_{\rm s}$. We found that the Hall resistivity shows strong non-linearity against magnetic field and the magnetoresistance becomes very large at low temperatures. These results give evidence for the manifestation of multiple carriers with distinct characters in the ordered phase below $T_{\rm s}$. By analyzing the magnetic field dependences, we found that at least three carriers equally contribute to the charge transport in the ordered phase, which is in good agreement with the results of recent quantum oscillation measurements., Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures, 2 tables, Published in Physical Review B

Abstract: In the present work, scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) measurements were carried out on underdoped $\rm Bi_2Sr_{2-{\it x}}La_{\it x}CuO_{6+\delta}$ and $\rm Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+\delta}$ to clarify the origin of the pseudogap, in particular, the inhomogeneous large pseudogap. The nodal part of a d-wave pairing gap, which is under no influence of the inhomogeneous large pseudogap, was also examined by relating the homogeneous bottom part of the STS gap to a nodal d-wave gap in momentum space. We report that the inhomogeneous large pseudogap in the antinodal region links to a two-dimensional electronic charge order, and that the gap size of the nodal d-wave part $\rm {\Delta}_{sc}$ scales with the superconducting critical temperature $\rm {\it T}_c$ in the pseudogap regime., Comment: 8 pages, 10 figures

Abstract: The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has performed systematic measurements of phi meson production in the K+K- decay channel at midrapidity in p+p, d+Au, Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions at sqrt(S_NN)=200 GeV. 18. Giant anomalous Hall resistivity of the room temperature ferromagnet Fe3Sn2 - a frustrated metal with the kagome-bilayer structure

Abstract: We have investigated magnetic and transport properties of the {\it kagom\'{e}-bilayer} ferromagnet Fe$_{3}$Sn$_{2}$. A soft ferromagnetism and a large anomalous Hall effect are observed. The saturated Hall resistivity of Fe$_{3}$Sn$_{2}$ is 3.2 $\mu\Omega$cm at 300 K, which is almost 20 times higher than that of typical itinerant-ferromagnets such as Fe and Ni. The anomalous Hall coefficient $R_{{\rm s}}$ is 6.7$\times10^{-9}$ $\Omega$cm/G at 300 K, which is three orders of magnitude larger than that of pure Fe. $R_{{\rm s}}$ obeys an unconventional scaling to the longitudinal resistivity, $\rho_{xx}$, of $R_{{\rm s}} \propto \rho_{xx}^{3.3}$. Such a relationship cannot be explained by the skew and/or side-jump mechanisms and indicates that the origin of the anomalous Hall effect in the frustrated magnet Fe$_{3}$Sn$_{2}$ is indeed extraordinary., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: In this Letter, we report the results of ESR measurements in high magnetic fields up to about 53 T on single crystals of NiGa2S4 to clarify the spin dynamics in more detail. We have found that the dynamics of Z2 vortices affects the temperature dependence of the ESR absorption linewidth and the frequency dependence of the ESR resonance fields at 1.3 K is well explained by a conventional spin wave theory. Abstract: The entire magnetic phase diagram of the quasi two dimensional (2D) magnet on a distorted triangular lattice KFe(MoO4)2 is outlined by means of magnetization, specific heat, and neutron diffraction measurements. It is found that the spin network breaks down into two almost independent magnetic subsystems. One subsystem is a collinear antiferromagnet that shows a simple spin-flop behavior in applied fields. The other is a helimagnet that instead goes through a series of exotic commensurate-incommensurate phase transformations. In the various phases one observes either true 3D order or quasi-2D order. Abstract: Spin resonance absorption of the triplet excitations is studied experimentally in the Haldane magnet PbNi2V2O8. The spectrum has features of spin S=1 resonance in a crystal field, with all three components, corresponding to transitions between spin sublevels, being observable. The resonance field is temperature dependent, indicating the renormalization of excitation spectrum in interaction between the triplets. Magnetic resonance frequencies and critical fields of the magnetization curve are consistent with a boson version of the macroscopic field theory [Affleck 1992, Farutin & Marchenko 2007], implying the field induced ordering at the critical field, while contradict the previously used approach of noninteracting spin chains., 7 pages, 9 figures

Abstract: We report novel effects of randomness in the S=1 bond-alternating antiferromagnetic chain compound with a dimer-singlet ground state [Ni(N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)propane-1,3-diamine(mu-NO2]ClO4 abbreviated as NTENP. The 15N NMR spectra develop a continuum with sharply peaked edges at low temperatures, indicating an inhomogeneous staggered magnetization induced by magnetic field. We attribute this to random anisotropic interactions due to disorder of NO2 groups in the chains. The field-induced antiferromagnetic transition exhibits remarkably anisotropic behavior. Abstract: Inelastic neutron scattering experiments on the S=1 quasi-one-dimensional bond-alternating antiferromagnet Ni(C9D24N4)(NO2)ClO4 have been performed under magnetic fields below and above a critical field Hc at which the energy gap closes. Normal field dependece of Zeeman splitting of the excited triplet modes below Hc has been observed, but the highest mode is unusually small and smears out with increasing field. This can be explained by an interaction with a low-lying two magnon continuum at q=pi that is present in dimerized chains but absent in uniform ones. Above Hc, we find only one excited mode, in stark contrast with three massive excitations previously observed in the structurally similar Haldane-gap material NDMAP [A. Zheludev et al., Phys. Rev. Abstract: Using an electron spin resonance spectrometer covering a wide range of frequency and magnetic field, we have measured the low energy excitations of the S=1/2 tetragonal antiferromagnets, Sr_{2}CuO_{2}Cl_{2} and Sr_{2}Cu_{3}O_{4}Cl_{2}. Our observation of in-plane energy gaps of order 0.1 meV at zero external magnetic field are consistent with a spin wave calculation, which includes several kinds of quantum fluctuations that remove frustration. Abstract: Specific heat measurements down to 0.5 K have been performed on a single crystal sample of a spin-ladder like compound Cu$_{2}$(C$_{5}$H$_{12}$N$_{2}$)$_{2}$Cl$_{4}$ under magnetic fields up to 12 T. The temperature dependence of the observed data in a magnetic field below 6 T is well reproduced by numerical results calculated for the S=1/2 two-leg ladder with $J_{\rm{rung}}$/$J_{\rm{leg}}$=5. In the gapless region above 7 T ($H_{\rm{c1}}$), the agreement between experiment and calculation is good above about 2 K and a sharp and a round peak were observed below 2 K in a magnetic field around 10 T, but the numerical data show only a round peak, the magnitude of which is smaller than that of the observed one. Abstract: Susceptibility and high field magnetization measurements have been performed on powder samples of an $S$=1 bond alternating chain compound [\{Ni(333-tet)($\mu$-N$_3$)\}$_n$](ClO$_4$)$_n$ (333-tet=tetraamine N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)-1,3-propanediamine). As the temperature is decreased, the susceptibility exhibits a round maximum at around 120 K and decreases gradually down to 10 K, and then falls down rapidly with a logarithmic curvature which is behavior of the susceptibility of a gapless or a nearly gapless antiferromagnetic chain. Magnetization up to 50 T at 1.4 K shows no or a very small gap in this compound. We have carried out numerical calculations for the $S$=1 antiferromagnetic bond alternating chain with various alternating ratios $\alpha$ and obtained a very good agreement between experiments and calculations for $\alpha$=0.6. 27. Electron spin resonance of Ni-doped CuGeO3 in the paramagnetic, spin-Peierls, and antiferromagnetic states: Comparison with nonmagnetic impurities

Abstract: We have performed Electron Spin Resonance measurements on single crystals of the doped spin-Peierls compounds CuGe$_{1-y}$Si$_y$O$_3$ and Cu$_{1-x}$M$_x$GeO$_3$ with M = Zn, Mg, Ni ($x, y\leq 0.1$). The first part of our experiments was performed in the paramagnetic and spin-Peierls phases at 9.5, 95 and 190 GHz. All non-magnetic impurities (Si, Zn and Mg) were found to hardly affect the position and linewidth of the single line resonance, in spite of the moment formation due to the broken chains. In contrast to Si, Zn and Mg-doping, the presence of Ni (S = 1) at low concentration induces a spectacular shift towards high fields of the ESR line (up to 40% for x=0.002), together with a large broadening. This shift is strictly proportional to the ratio of Ni to Cu susceptibilities: Hence it is strongly enhanced below the spin-Peierls transition. We interpret this shift and the broadening as due to the exchange field induced by the Ni ions onto the strongly exchange coupled Cu spins. Second, the antiferromagnetic resonance was investigated in Ni-doped samples. The frequency vs magnetic field relation of the resonance is well explained by the classical theory with orthorhombic anisotropy, with $g$ values remarkably reduced, in accordance with the study of the spin-Peierls and paramagnetic phases. The easy, second-easy, and hard axes are found to be $a$, $c$, and $b$ axes, respectively. These results, which are dominated by the single ion anisotropy of Ni$^{2+}$, are discussed in comparison with those in the Zn- and Si-doped CuGeO$_3$., Comment: 13 pages with 14 figures, RevTex, accepted for publication in Phys.
