Abstract

A muon collider would enable the big jump ahead in energy reach that is needed for a fruitful exploration of fundamental interactions. The challenges of producing muon collisions at high luminosity and 10~TeV centre of mass energy are being investigated by the recently-formed International Muon Collider Collaboration. This Review summarises the status and the recent advances on muon colliders design, physics and detector studies. Abstract

We present a detailed simulation study of the signatures from the sequential decays of the triple-strange pbar p -> {\Omega}+{\Omega}- -> K+{\Lambda}barK- {\Lambda} -> K+pbar{\pi}+K-p{\pi}- process in the PANDA central tracking system with focus on hit patterns and precise time measurement. We present a systematic approach for studying physics channels at the detector level and develop input criteria for tracking algorithms and trigger lines. Finally, we study the beam momentum dependence on the reconstruction efficiency for the PANDA detector.

Abstract

In the path towards a muon collider with center of mass energy of 10 TeV or more, a stage at 3 TeV emerges as an appealing option. Reviewing the physics potential of such muon collider is the main purpose of this document. In order to outline the progression of the physics performances across the stages, a few sensitivity projections for higher energy are also presented. There are many opportunities for probing new physics at a 3 TeV muon collider. Some of them are in common with the extensively documented physics case of the CLIC 3 TeV energy stage, and include measuring the Higgs trilinear coupling and testing the possible composite nature of the Higgs boson and of the top quark at the 20 TeV scale. Other opportunities are unique of a 3 TeV muon collider, and stem from the fact that muons are collided rather than electrons. Abstract

The potential of triphoton production to obtain limits on anomalous Higgs boson couplings at $H\gamma\gamma$ and $HZ\gamma$ vertices is studied in Standard Model Effective Field Theory (EFT) framework for the post-LHC circular high-energy hadron colliders: High Luminosity-LHC (HL-LHC), High Energy LHC (HE-LHC) and Low Energy FCC (LE-FCC) which are designed with standard configurations of 14 TeV/3 ab$^{-1}$, 27 TeV/15 ab$^{-1}$ and 37.5 TeV/15 ab$^{-1}$. Madgraph in which the effective Lagrangian of the SM EFT is implemented using FeynRules and UFO framework is used to generate both background and signal events. These events are then passed through Pythia 8 for parton showering and Delphes to include realistic detector effects. After optimizing cuts on kinematics of three photons as well as the reconstructed invariant mass of the two leading photons, invariant mass of three leading photon is used to obtain constraints on the Wilson coefficients of dimension-six operators. We report the result of two dimensional scan of $\bar{c}_{\gamma}$ and $\tilde{c}_{\gamma}$ couplings at 95\% confidence level and compare with LHC results. Our obtained limits without systematic error on $\bar{c}_{\gamma}$ ( $\tilde{c}_{\gamma}$) are $[-3.15;1.41]\times10^{-2}$ ($[-2.12;2.12]\times10^{-2}$), $[-1.21;0.78]\times10^{-2}$ ($[-0.98;0.98]\times10^{-2}$) and $[-0.89;0.66]\times10^{-2}$ ($[-0.77;0.77]\times10^{-2}$) for HL-LHC, HE-LHC and LE-FCC, respectively., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures, version accepted in Acta Physica Polonica B. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1901.04784

Abstract

We study the sensitivity of anomalous neutral triple gauge couplings ($aNTGC$) via $pp \rightarrow ZZ$ production in the 4$\ell$ channel at 100 TeV centre of mass energy of future circular hadron collider, \verb"FCC-hh". The analysis including the realistic detector effects is performed in the mode where both Z bosons decay into same flavor, oppositely charged lepton pairs. The sensitivities to the charge-parity (CP)-conserving $C_{\tilde{B}W} / \Lambda^{4}$ and CP-violating $C_{WW} / \Lambda^{4}$, $C_{BW} / \Lambda^{4}$ and $C_{BB} / \Lambda^{4}$ couplings obtained at 95\% Confidence Level (C.L.) using the invariant mass distribution of 4$\ell$ system reconstructing the leading and sub-leading Z boson candidates are $[-0.117, \,\, +0.117]$, $[-0.293, \,\, +0.292]$, $[-0.380, \,\, +0.379]$, and $[-0.138, \,\, +0.138]$ in the unit of TeV$^{-4}$, respectively., Comment: 6 pages, 10 figures

Abstract

After the recent discovery of a neutral Higgs boson with a mass about 125 GeV, we assess the extend of discovery potential of future circular hadron collider (FCC-hh) for a charged Higgs boson in the bottom and top quark decay channel. The charged Higgs boson can be produced through the pp->h^{-}t+X process with a subsequent decay h^{-}->b bar{t} channel. This decay channel is particularly important for studying the charged Higgs boson heavier than the top quark. We consider an extension of the standard model Higgs sector, namely two Higgs doublet model (2HDM), and perform a dedicated signal significance analysis to test this channel for the FCC-hh running at the center of mass energy of 100 TeV and the integrated luminosity of 1 ab^{-1} (initial) and 30 ab^{-1} (ultimate). We find that an important part of the parameter spaces of two Higgs doublet model are examinable at the FCC-hh., 5 pages, 8 figures

Abstract

We study the CP-conserving and CP-violating dimension-six operators of Higgs-gauge boson couplings via $pp\to\gamma\gamma$+n-jet signal process in a strongly interacting light Higgs based effective field theory framework at the center of mass energy of 100 TeV. In order to perform a simulation which includes realistic detector effects, the signal events in the existence of $\bar{c}_{\gamma} $, $\tilde{c}_{\gamma}$, $\bar{c}_{g} $ and $\tilde{c}_{g}$ Wilson coefficients and the relevant SM background events are generated in MadGraph, then passed through Pythia 8 for parton showering and finally run Delphes with FCC-hh detector card. In our analysis, we focus on the kinematic variables of the two photons in the final states of signal and relevant background processes that can reconstruct Higgs boson. We obtain constraints on the four Wilson coefficients of dimension-six operators using the transverse momentum distribution of reconstructed di-photon system with optimized kinematic cuts. The obtained 95\% confidence level limits on these four Wilson coefficients including detector effects at $\sqrt s$=100 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 30 ab$^{-1}$ without systematic error are at least one order or more better than current experimental limits reported by ATLAS experiment. Abstract

Journal of Instrumentation 15(02), P02005 (2020). doi:10.1088/1748-0221/15/02/P02005, Depleted Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (DMAPS) prototypes developed in the TowerJazz 180 nm CMOS imaging process have been designed in the context of the ATLAS upgrade Phase-II at the HL-LHC. The pixel sensors are characterized by a small collection electrode (3 μm) to minimize capacitance, a small pixel size (36.4× 36.4 μm$^2$), and are produced on high resistivity epitaxial p-type silicon. The design targets a radiation hardness of 1×10$^{15}$ 1 MeV n$_{eq}$/cm$^2$, compatible with the outermost layer of the ATLAS ITK Pixel detector. This paper presents the results from characterization in particle beam tests of the Mini-MALTA prototype that implements a mask change or an additional implant to address the inefficiencies on the pixel edges. Abstract

The CLICdp collaboration: et al., The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a proposed future high-luminosity linear electron-positron collider operating at three energy stages, with nominal centre-of-mass energies s = 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV, and 3 TeV. Its aim is to explore the energy frontier, providing sensitivity to physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM) and precision measurements of Standard Model processes with an emphasis on Higgs boson and top-quark physics. The opportunities for top-quark physics at CLIC are discussed in this paper. The initial stage of operation focuses on top-quark pair production measurements, as well as the search for rare flavour-changing neutral current (FCNC) top-quark decays. It also includes a top-quark pair production threshold scan around 350 GeV which provides a precise measurement of the top-quark mass in a well-defined theoretical framework. At the higher-energy stages, studies are made of top-quark pairs produced in association with other particles. A study of ttH production including the extraction of the top Yukawa coupling is presented as well as a study of vector boson fusion (VBF) production, which gives direct access to high-energy electroweak interactions. Operation above 1 TeV leads to more highly collimated jet environments where dedicated methods are used to analyse the jet constituents. These techniques enable studies of the top-quark pair production, and hence the sensitivity to BSM physics, to be extended to higher energies. Abstract

The $PeV$ cosmogenic neutrino is still interesting argument. Since cosmogenic neutrinos interact weakly with matter, the detection of their direction will precisely point out the source in the space. In this paper, we show the results of the simulation of tau lepton air showers induced by high energy neutrinos detected by an array of stations designed to use the Earth Skimming method improved by the "mountain chain screen" strategy. Both track time stamp and position information of the stations on the array are used to reconstruct the shower to estimate the direction and the number of events. The array studied consists of 640 stations ($40 \times 16$) spread over an area of $0.6\,km^2$ starting from $1500\,m$ above the sea level (a.s.l.) on $30^{o}$ inclined plane of the mountain. When we extrapolate to 3 years and 10 $km^2$ we estimate 13 tau lepton events in energy interval of 10 PeV to 1000 PeV detected using the present upper limits of tau neutrino flux., 14 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The top quark flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) processes are extremely suppressed within the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. However, they could be enhanced in a new physics model Beyond the Standard Model (BSM). The top quark FCNC interactions would be a good test of new physics at present and future colliders. Within the framework of the BSM models, these interactions can be described by an effective Lagrangian. In this work, we study tqgamma and tqZ effective FCNC interaction vertices through the process e-p->e-Wq+X at future electron proton colliders, projected as Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) and Future Circular Collider-hadron electron (FCC-he). The cross sections for the signal have been calculated for different values of parameters lambda_q for tqgamma vertices and kappa_q for $tqZ$ vertices. Taking into account the relevant background we estimate the attainable range of signal parameters as a function of the integrated luminosity and present contour plots of couplings for different significance levels including detector simulation., 16 pages, 10 figures

Abstract

We investigate the potential of the $pp\to \gamma\gamma\gamma$ process to probe CP-conserving and CP-violating dimension-six operators of Higgs-gauge boson interactions in a model-independent Standard Model effective field theory framework at the center of mass energy of 100 TeV which is designed for the Future Circular hadron-hadron Collider. Signal events assuming the existence of anomalous Higgs boson couplings at $H\gamma\gamma$ and $HZ\gamma$ vertices and the relevant SM background events are generated in MadGraph, then passed through Pythia 8 for parton showering and Delphes to include detector effects. After detailed examination of kinematic variables, we use the invariant mass distribution of the two leading photons with optimized kinematic cuts to obtain constraints on the Wilson coefficients of dimension-six operators. We report that limits at 95\% confidence level on $\bar{c}_{\gamma}$ and $\tilde{c}_{\gamma}$ couplings with an integrated luminosity of 10 ab$^{-1}$ are [-0.0051; 0.0038] and [-0.0043; 0.0043] without systematic error, respectively., Comment: 15 pages, 8 Figures, 2 Tables, accepted version by J.Phys. Abstract

We investigate the top quark anomalous Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) $tqg$ interactions to probe limits on the couplings $\zeta_c$ and $\zeta_u$ through the $qg \to l\nu b$ signal suprocess at FCC-hh collider with center of mass energy of 100 TeV. To separate signal from relevant Standard Model background processes, selection criteria based on Boosted Decision Trees (BDT) is used with a set of useful kinematic variables. The sensitivities on the anomalous top FCNC couplings $\zeta_u$ and $\zeta_c$ are found to be $1.239\times10^{-4}$ and $1.149\times10^{-4}$ for FCC-hh with $L_{int}$=10 ab$^{-1}$ at 95 \% C.L. including realistic detector effects of the FCC-hh baseline detector, respectively. The branchings $BR (t \to ug)$ and $BR (t \to c g)$ converted from obtained limits for FCNC couplings are at the order of $10^{-7}$ which is at least one order of magnitude better than the projected limits of HL-LHC with $L_{int}$= 3 ab$^{-1}$., Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables, to appear in Phys. We performed an analysis on transverse momentum of photon and angular distribution of charged lepton in the final state including detector effects. Sensitivity limits of the C-(B) over tildeW, C-BB couplings are obtained at 95% C.L. to constrain for the ranges [-1.88; 1.88] TeV-4, [-1.47: 1.47] TeV-4 and [-1.14: 1.14] TeV-4, [-0.86; 0.86] TeV-4 with an integrated luminosity of 300 fb(-1) and 3000 fb(-1), respectively. Abstract

We study the anomalous FCNC $tq��$ and $tqg$ couplings via $pp\to Wb��+X$ signal process including realistic detector effects for both leptonic and hadronic decay channels of the W boson at 100 TeV FCC-hh. The relevant background are considered in the cut based analysis to obtain not only limits on the anomalous $��$ and $��$ couplings but also branching ratios of $t\to q��$ and $t\to qg$ decay channels. We find that the sensitivity to the branching ratio of $t \to q ��$ channel is three order better than the available LHC experimental limits, and it is comparable for the branching ratio of the $t\to qg$ decay channel with an integrated luminosity of 10 ab$^{-1}$ at 2$��$ significance level., 18 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables, accepted version by Eur. Abstract

The effects of dimension-eight operators giving rise to anomalous neutral triple gauge boson interactions of $Z\gamma\gamma$ and $Z\gamma Z$ vertices in $pp\to l^-l^+\gamma$ and $pp\to \nu\bar \nu \gamma$ are investigated at 100 TeV centre of mass energy of future circular hadron collider (FCC-hh). The transverse momentum of photon, invariant mass of $l^-l^+\gamma$ and angular distribution of charged lepton in the rest frame of $l^-l^+$ and Missing Energy Transverse (MET) are considered in the analysis. The realistic detector effects are also included with Delphes simulation. Sensitivity limits obtained at 95\% C.L. for $C_{\widetilde B W}/\Lambda^4$ and $C_{B B}/\Lambda^4$ couplings are $[-0.52;0.52] ([-0.40;0.40])$ TeV$^{-4}$, $[-0.43;0.43] ([-0.33;0.33])$ TeV$^{-4}$ in the dilepton+photon channel and $[-0.11;0.11] ([-0.084;0.084])$ TeV$^{-4}$, $[-0.092;0.092] ([-0.072;0.072])$ TeV$^{-4}$ in the MET+photon channel with $L_{int}$=1 (3) ab$^{-1}$, respectively., Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures, 8 Tables, accepted for publication in Nuclear Physics B

Abstract

We investigate the anomalous flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) interactions of top quark through the process $e^{-}p\to e^{-}W^{\pm}q+X$. We calculate the signal and background cross sections in electron proton collisions at Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) with a 7 TeV proton beam from the LHC and a new 60 GeV electron beam from energy recovery linac (ERL). We study the relevant background processes including one electron and three jets in the final state. The distributions of the invariant mass of two jets and an additional jet tagged as $b$-jet are used to account signal and background events after the analysis cuts. We find upper bounds on anomalous FCNC couplings $\lambda$ of the order of $10^{-2}$ at LHeC for a luminosity projection of $100$ fb$^{-1}$ together with the fast simulation of detector effects. As a matter of interest, we analyze the sensitivity to the couplings $(\lambda_{u},\lambda_{c})$ and find an enhanced sensitivity to $\lambda_{c}$ at the LHeC when compared to the results from the HERA., Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures
