We investigate the modification of the Higgs signals from vector boson fusion at the LHC arising from higher-dimensional effective operators involving quarks, electroweak gauge bosons and the 125-GeV scalar discovered in 2012. Taking a few of the admissible dimension-6 operators as illustration, we work within the framework of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) and identify kinematic variables that can reflect the presence of such effective operators. The useful variables turn out to be the geometric mean of the transverse momenta of the two forward jets produced in VBF and the rapidity difference between the two forward jets. We identify the shift in event population caused by the effective operators in the same, spanned by the above kinematic variables. Minimum values of the Wilson coefficients of the chosen dimension-6 operators are identified, for which they can be probed at the $3\sigma$ level in the high luminosity run of the LHC at 14 TeV. Projected exclusion limits on some of the couplings, obtained from our analysis, can significantly improve the limits on such couplings derived from electroweak precision data., Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures and 4 tables; figure 10 is supplementary; comments added and references updated; conclusions unchanged. We estimate contributions from Kaluza-Klein excitations of third generation quarks and gauge bosons to the branching ratio of $B\rightarrow X_s��$ decay process in 5-Dimensional Universal Extra Dimensional scenario with non-vanishing boundary localised terms. This model is conventionally known as non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensional model. We have derived the lower limit on the size of the extra dimension by comparing our theoretical estimation of the branching ratio which includes next-to-next-to leading order QCD corrections with its experimentally measured value. Coefficients of the boundary localised terms have also been constrained. 95 \% C.L. lower limit on inverse of radius of compactification ($R^{-1}$) can be as large as 670 GeV for some choice of the value of coefficients of boundary localised terms., Typos corrected, published version

We calculate the effective $Z b\bar b$ coupling at one loop level, in the framework of non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensional (nmUED) model. Non-minimality in Universal Extra Dimensional (UED) framework is realized by adding kinetic and Yukawa terms with arbitrary coefficients to the action at boundary points of the extra space like dimension. A recent estimation of the Standard Model (SM) contribution to $Zb\bar{b}$ coupling at two loop level, points to a $1.2\sigma$ discrepancy between the experimental data and the SM estimate. We compare our calculation with the difference between the SM prediction and the experimental estimation of the above coupling and constrain the parameter space of nmUED. We also review the limit on compactification radius of UED in view of the new theoretical estimation of SM contribution to $Z b\bar{b}$ coupling. For suitable choice of coefficients of boundary-localized terms, 95\% C.L. lower limit on $R^{-1}$ comes out to be in the ballpark of 800 GeV in the framework of nmUED; while in UED, the lower limit on $R^{-1}$ is 350 GeV which is a marginal improvement over an earlier estimate., Comment: Version to be published in JHEP

Electroweak observables are highly sensitive to the loop corrections. Therefore, a proper gauge-fixing mechanism is always needed to define the propagators which are involved in Feynman loop amplitude. With this spirit we compute gauge-fixing mechanism in five dimensional (5-D) Universal Extra-Dimensional (UED) model with boundary localised terms (BLTs). These BLTs are not 5-D operators in four-dimensional (4-D) effective theory but some sort of boundary conditions on the respective fields at the fixed points of $S^1/Z_2$ orbifold. Furthermore, these BLTs non-trivially modify the Kaluza-Klein (KK) spectra and some of the interactions among the KK-excitations compared to the minimal UED (mUED), in which, these BLTs are absent. In this note we calculate the gauge-fixing mechanism in the electroweak sector of such non-trivial UED scenario. The exotic physical properties of graphene have led to intense research activities on the synthesis and characterization of graphene composites during the last decade. In this article the methods developed for preparation of such materials and the different application areas are reviewed. The composites discussed are of two types, viz; graphene/polymer and inorganic/ graphene. The techniques of ex-situ hybridization and in-situ hybridization have been pointed out. Some of the application areas are batteries and ultracapacitor for energy storage and fuel cell and solar cell for energy generation and some of the possible future directions of research have been discussed., Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures

Discussing the recent MINOS data on muon anti-neutrino disappearance and the MiniBooNE data on muon anti-neutrino to electron anti-neutrino oscillation, we show that the while the respective best fits are inconsistent with each other, significant overlap of allowed regions does exist. Assuming only three neutrino species, the data indicates a discrepancy of mass levels and mixing angles between the neutrino and the antineutrino sectors. We show that the existing data can be reconciled with a model of explicit CPT violation in the neutrino sector and estimate the magnitude of the required violation., Comment: 7 pages, 3 fugures

Considering a general mass matrix for quasi-degenerate neutrinos and treating the experimentally known oscillation parameters as inputs, we study the correlation between the degenerate mass scale $(m)$ and the mixing angle $��_{13}$. We find that, corresponding to different values of $m$, there exist upper bounds on $��_{13}$, so that a precise determination of the latter in future may put upper limit on the former, and vice versa. One can also find a possible correlation between $m$ and lower bound of $��_{13}$, depending on the relative strength of the unperturbed degenerate mass matrix and the perturbation. The favoured resolution of the atmospheric neutrino anomaly involves an oscillation of the muon neutrino to a different state. Current experiments allow for the latter to contain a significantly large fraction of a non-standard flavour. We consider the s-channel scattering of massive fermion or vector-boson pairs with equal helicities, mediated by a graviton in the linearized Einstein theory. We show that, although in general both spin-2 and spin-0 components are present in the exchanged graviton, there is a special set of reference frames where the spin-0 graviton component vanishes. This is connected to the dependence of the trace of the graviton propagator on the effective dimension of the space-time spanned by the sources. On the other hand, one finds a non-vanishing (Lorentz-invariant) interference of the graviton amplitude with the scalar-exchange amplitude, that in principle could give measurable effects., Latex 13 pages, 1 eps figure, improved text

We point out that slepton pairs produced via gauge boson fusion in anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB) model have very characteristic and almost clean signal at the Large Hadron Collider. We discuss the effects of lepton number violating interactions namely, R-parity violation and leptoquarks on top quark pair production at the upcoming $e^+ e^-$ linear colliders. Effects of SU(2) singlet, doublet and triplet leptoquark interactions are investigated. R-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model also allows certain kinds of lepton number violating interactions which are same as singlet leptoquarks with left-handed interactions. We have calculated the cross-section of $e^+ e^- \to t \bar t$ in presence of the above interactions. With conservative values of lepton number violating coupling strengths we got enhancement of top-pair production cross-section in all of the above cases., Version to appear in Physical Review D

Neutrino oscillation signals at muon storage rings (MSR) can be mimicked by Supersymmetric (SUSY) interactions in an R-parity violating scenario. We have investigated the $\tau$-appearance signals for both long-baseline and near-site experiments, and concluded that the latter is of great use in distinguishing between oscillation and SUSY effects. On the other hand, SUSY can cause a manifold increase in the event rate for wrong-sign muons at a long-baseline setting, thereby providing us with signatures of new physics., Comment: Latex, 4 pages, 2 ps figures, uses axodraw.sty . In this paper we use the conformal anomaly in QCD to derive the coupling of light radion to gluons in the Randall-Sundrum model and use it to compute the radion production cross section at hadron colliders by gluon fusion. We find that the radion production cross section by gluon fusion at LHC would exceed that of the higgs boson by a factor that lies between 7 and 8 over most of the range. The decay modes of the radion are similar to that of the SM higgs boson. But the striking feature is the enhancement of radion to 2-photon and radion to 2-gluon branching ratio over the SM case. Utilising this, we then discuss the possible search strategies of such scalars at Tevatron and LHC. Using the $\gamma \gamma$ decay mode one can explore/exclude radion mass upto 1 TeV. In scenarios with relatively light down squarks, motivated, e.g., by SO(10) D terms, jets + missing $E_T$ signals can be observed at the luminosity upgraded Tevatron even if the squarks are much heavier than the gluinos and the common gaugino mass ($M_{{1/2}}$) at $M_G$ lies above the LEP allowed lower bound. In the conventional mSUGRA model with heavy squarks practically no signal is expected in this channel. The possiblity of distinguishing between various SUGRA motivated scenarios by exploiting the missing $E_T$ and jet $p_T$ distributions, opposite sign dileptons + jets + missing $E_T$ events and clean trilepton signals have been discussed., Comment: 14 pages, 3 ps figures

At the Fermilab Tevatron, final states with three tagged b-jets could play an important role in searches for a Higgs boson with mass in the range 100-300 GeV. These signals arise from gb fusion and we demonstrate their observability in the limit of a large b-quark Yukawa coupling. Rather promising discovery limits on such a coupling are obtained and consequent effects on the parameter space of the Higgs-boson sector in the MSSM are discussed., Comment: 4 pages, 4 postscript figures, RevTeX (style files included)

The Standard Model of electroweak interactions has one scalar doublet. The minimal extension of this sector is effected by adding a neutral, singlet scalar field. Depending on whether the singlet field has a non-zero vacuum expectation value, x, or not, the scenario has quite distinctive predictions. In particular, x unequal to 0 produces a mixing between the usual SU(2) doublet and the singlet, giving rise to two physical states and a goldstone boson with non-vanishing coupling to these. Presence of this coupling modifies the 2 jets + missing energy signal of the Bjorken process at LEP. We update the bounds on the Higgs mass using the LEP-1 data. We then explore, using parton-level Monte Carlo event generators, the production of these scalars at the LHC via gluon-gluon fusion and subsequent detection.
