We consider composite string solutions in N=2 SQCD with the gauge group U(N), the Fayet--Iliopoulos term \xi \neq 0 and N (s)quark flavors. These bulk theories support non-Abelian strings and confined monopoles identified with kinks in the two-dimensional world-sheet theory. Similar and more complicated kinks (corresponding to composite confined monopoles) must exist in the world-sheet theories on composite strings. In a bid to detect them we analyze the Hanany--Tong (HT) model, focusing on a particular example of N=2. Unequal quark mass terms in the bulk theory result in the twisted masses in the N=(2,2) HT model. For spatially coinciding 2-strings, we find three distinct minima of potential energy, corresponding to three different 2-strings. Then we find BPS-saturated kinks interpolating between each pair of vacua. Two kinks can be called elementary. They emanate one unit of the magnetic flux and have the same mass as the conventional 't Hooft--Polyakov monopole on the Coulomb branch of the bulk theory (\xi =0). The third kink represents a composite bimonopole, with twice the minimal magnetic flux. Its mass is twice the mass of the elementary confined monopole. We find instantons in the HT model, and discuss quantum effects in composite strings at strong coupling. We analytically compute subsystem action complexity for a segment in the BTZ black hole background up to the finite term, and we find that it is equal to the sum of a linearly divergent term proportional to the size of the subregion and of a term proportional to the entanglement entropy. This elegant structure does not survive to more complicated geometries: in the case of a two segments subregion in AdS$_3$, complexity has additional finite contributions. We compute the ultraviolet divergences of holographic subregion complexity for the left and right factors of the thermofield double state in warped AdS$_3$ black holes, both for the action and the volume conjectures. Besides the linear divergences, which are also present in the BTZ black hole, additional logarithmic divergences appear. For the action conjecture, these log divergences are not affected by the arbitrarity in the length scale associated with the counterterm needed to ensure reparameterization invariance. We find that the subregion action complexity obeys the superadditivity property for the thermofield double in warped AdS$_3$, independently from the action counterterm coefficient. We consider a Galilean N=2 supersymmetric theory in 2+1 dimensions with F-term couplings, obtained by null reduction of a relativistic Wess-Zumino model. We compute quantum corrections and we check that, as for the relativistic parent theory, the F-term does not receive quantum corrections. Even more, we find evidence that the causal structure of the non-relativistic dynamics together with particle number conservation constrain the theory to be one-loop exact., 41 pages, 21 figures; v2: references added

We study the Complexity=Volume conjecture for Warped AdS$_3$ black holes. We compute the spatial volume of the Einstein-Rosen bridge and we find that its growth rate is proportional to the Hawking temperature times the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Using the heat kernel method, we compute nonrelativistic trace anomalies for Schr\"odinger theories in flat spacetime, with a generic background gauge field for the particle number symmetry, both for a free scalar and a free fermion. The result is genuinely nonrelativistic, and it has no counterpart in the relativistic case. Contrary to the naive expectations, the anomaly is not gauge-invariant; this is similar to the non-gauge covariance of the non-abelian relativistic anomaly. The Complexity=Action conjecture is studied for black holes in Warped AdS$_3$ space, realized as solutions of Einstein gravity plus matter. The time dependence of the action of the Wheeler-DeWitt patch is investigated, both for the non-rotating and the rotating case. The asymptotic growth rate is found to be equal to the Hawking temperature times the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy; this is in agreement with a previous calculation done using the Complexity=Volume conjecture., Comment: 21 pages, 8 figures, V2:minor changes

The issue of domain walls in the recently extended Veneziano-Yankielowicz theory is investigated and we show that they have an interesting substructure. We also demonstrate the presence of a noncompact modulus. The associated family of degenerate solutions is physically due to the presence of a valley of vacua in the enlarged space of fields. This is a feature of the extended Veneziano-Yankielowicz theory.
