The purpose of this study is to gain deeper knowledge on how Pre-school teachers work to stimulate language development with children who are multilingual. This study was conducted through qualitative interviews with seven Pre-school teachers who all work with multilingual children. The data of this study was then analyzed using a phenomenographic method approach and analysis model. By using a phenomenographic method approach I could gain knowledge about Pre-school teachers’ perception on how to support and stimulate multilingual children’s language development. The result showed that there are various perceptions on how to work with linguistic diversity and how to work with multilingual children’s language development. The result also show that Pre-school teachers’ use a variety of different strategies to support and stimulate the language development. Among other things the result showed that by having a genuine interest in the children’s different languages and raising awareness about multilingualism are means of promoting language development. Furthermore, the result showed that different supportive strategies may be used to promote language development. Examples of these include signing as augmentative and alternative communication (SAAC), image support and communication maps. The study also sheds light upon the Pre-school teachers’ different perceptions on what they find challenging as opposed to the opportunities that may be found when working with children’s multilingualism. The result showed that one perception was multilingual colleagues could be seen both as a challenge and opportunity in the work with language development of multilingual children. Syftet med studien var att öka kunskaperna kring hur förskollärare arbetade med flerspråkighet för att främja språkutvecklingen hos barn med annat modersmål än svenska. Studien genomfördes med semistrukturerade intervjuer med sju förskollärare som alla arbetar i barngrupper med språklig mångfald. Data som samlades in analyserades med hjälp av en fenomenografisk metodansats. En fenomenografisk metodansats valdes för att synliggöra förskollärarnas uppfattningar och tankar kring arbetet med flerspråkighet. Det resultatet visade var att det finns variationer i hur förskollärare uppfattar arbetet med flerspråkighet samt hur de arbetar för att stödja och främja flerspråkiga barns språkutveckling. Resultatet visar också att förskollärare använder sig av strategier på olika sätt för att stötta och stimulera språkutvecklingen. Respondenterna uppger att ett genuint intresse för barnens olika modersmål och att arbeta för att höja värdet av flerspråkighet kan främja språkutvecklingen. Dessutom uppger respondenterna att de använder olika former av stöd i det språkutvecklande arbetet. Exempel på stöd inkluderar tecken som alternativ kompletterande kommunikation (TAKK), bildstöd och kommunikationskartor. Studiens resultat belyser även en variation i vad förskollärarna uppfattade som utmaningar respektive möjligheter i arbetet med flerspråkighet. Några respondenter uppger att kollegors bristande kunskaper i svenska kan vara en utmaning medan flera respondenter uppger att flerspråkiga kollegor kan ses som en bra tillgång i det språkutvecklande arbetet.

Bakgrund: Barn i behov av särskilt stöd kan ses som ett komplext begrepp. En rapport från Skolinspektionen (2017) ligger till grund för uppsatsens motiv, rapporten visar att förskolepersonal ofta saknar en samsyn över vad särskilt stöd innebär och hur det särskilda stödet utformas. Den teoretiska ansats vår studie utgår från är socialkonstruktivistisk, där människors uppfattningar ses som socialt konstruerade. De analytiska begrepp som används i studien är det kompensatoriska perspektivet, det kritiska/relationella perspektivet och dilemmaperspektivet. Dessa används för att kunna problematisera och analysera förskollärares uppfattningar och erfarenheter om arbetet med barn i behov av särskilt stöd. Syfte: Den här studien syftar till att problematisera arbetet med barn i behov av särskilt stöd. Metod: I föreliggande studie används semistrukturerade intervjuer för att besvara våra frågeställningar. Nio förskollärare har intervjuats i en mellanstor kommun i Sverige. Resultat: Vi finner att förskollärarna anser att barn som avviker från normen, barn med språksvårigheter, barn med diagnoser och barn i gråzonen är de som är i behov av särskilt stöd. Inom temat barn i gråzonen beskrivs bland annat barn med utåtagerande, alternativt inåtvända beteenden och koncentrationssvårigheter. Det särskilda stödet utformas främst i helgrupp, genom bilder och tecken som stöd men även i mindre grupper och individuellt. Så gott som alla förskollärare betonar att deras bemötande är en central del i hur det särskilda stödet utformas. Slutligen anser nästintill alla förskollärare att även faktorer såsom ekonomi, tid och personaltäthet avgör hur särskilda stödet utformas.

Tillsammans har vi varit verksamma barnskötare och montessoripedagog i 15–20 år. Under en längre tid har önskan om kompetensutveckling varit närvarande och därmed sökte vi in till förskollärarutbildningen för pedagogiskt verksamma. Studien handlar om pedagogens förändrade förhållningssätt vid en formell akademisk utbildning. Vilken betydelse har den praktiska erfarenheten som dessa studenter innehar innan sin utbildning? Det förändrade förhållningssättet är relaterat till teoretisk och formell kompetens och kan därmed berika förskollärarens praktiska utövande. Studien vill ta reda på om den praktiska erfarenheten kan berika den akademiska utbildningen som respondenterna har genomfört. Läroplanen för förskolan är en viktig del av detta arbete och är ständigt närvarande. Syftet med studien är att undersöka förskollärares tankar om vilken betydelse den akademiska utbildningen har för yrkesutövningen. Tillsammans med detta syfte har studien två frågeställningar att förhålla sig till. På vilket sätt kan verksamma pedagoger som studerat till förskollärare se en förändring i sitt förhållningssätt? Hur anser respondenterna att de gynnats av att ha en praktisk yrkeskunskap innan sin förskollärarutbildning? Metoden för denna studie är kvalitativ med hjälp av en self report. Self report innebär att respondenterna svarar på studiens öppna frågor. Här ges möjligheten att med egna ord reflektera och svara anonymt. Svaren på studiens frågeställningar får med detta eventuellt en större bredd och blir mer innovativa. Resultatet för denna studie visar vikten av reflektion, kopplingen mellan teori och praktik och vikten av den tidigare praktiska kunskapen. Respondenterna upplever att den praktiska kunskapen de hade i sin ”ryggsäck” innan utbildningen berikat diskussioner, workshops och övriga undervisningsmetoder. Respondenterna påvisar att de blivit mer aktiva med att utveckla förskolan och dess verksamhet, då de nu vet när, hur och på vilket sätt något ska ske. De beskriver sin nya teoretiska kunskap som att de fått ”mer kött på benen” och kan numera ”sätta ord” på det de gör. Resultatet visar även att respondenterna som har slutfört denna utbildning och därmed berikats av teori, praktik, reflektion och givande undervisningsformer genomgåren pedagogisk kullerbytta.

The purpose of this study is to explore how and which communicative tools five different pre-school teachers use to communicate with children in the ages of one to two years old, and in that way contribute to the area of knowledge about how to use communicative tools in pre-school. To answer the purpose and the questions of issue I used non-participating observations as my method, which means that I kept myself in the background to influence the situation as little as possible. The result shows that pre-school teachers use different artifacts, ACC and the pre-school environment to communicate with children. ACC was for example used in connection to food situations. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att undersöka hur och vilka kommunikativa redskap fem olika förskollärare använder sig av för att kommunicera med barn i åldrarna ett till två år, och på så sätt bidra till kunskapsfältet om hur kommunikativa redskap kan användas i verksamheten. För att få svar på syftet och frågeställningarna använde jag mig av icke-deltagande observationer, vilket innebär att jag höll mig i bakgrunden för att påverka situationen så lite som möjligt. Resultatet visar på att förskollärare använder sig av artefakter av olika slag, TAKK och förskolans miljö när de kommunicerar med barn, TAKK användes till exempelvis i samband med matsituationer.

In 2011 pre-schools began reporting to the Education Department and were then subject to the school law. Pre-school’s entry into the school system meant that the concept of education became part of the pre-school’s activities. This is also to be implemented into the preschool curriculum. This study has examined how pre-school teachers, pre-school managers and heads of operations interpret the concept of "teaching" in the pre-school context. Respondents that were interviewed were familiar with the subject, due to the fact that they are part of a nationwide teaching project and they themselves work on implementing the concept of teaching in their operations. The aim has been to establish how the three professions interpret the concept and work with it in practice. The study is based on a social constructivist perspective where we chose to focus on how the concept of teaching is constructed and reconstructed using the social linguistic interaction and the interaction between respondents. As a research method, we have used qualitative group interviews. The empirical data has been analysed using the theoretical lens of social constructivism. The results showed that the term "teaching" was unclear when it is referred to pre-schools and did not have a specific definition in the pre-school context. The concept was understood differently by the three professions. The respondents argued that the implementation of the concept in the pre-schools took place in diverse ways. They confirmed that it is a long-term process that will take time to fully implement. Another conclusion that the authors drew was 2 that there was a gap between practice and theory. This was because the heads of operations and pre-school managers had a theoretical view of "teaching" while the pre-school teachers had a practical view.

Children and pre-school teachers daily meet pictures in picture books, usually during planned reading sessions. The purpose of this study is to provide a picture of what strategies pre-school teachers have about the use of images in childrens literature to stimulate childrens language development. This study is a qualitative interview where I have chosen to focus on the pre-school teachers views on pictures and how they use them. This study shows that language development is a large area in which the picture is an important part. All pre-school teachers use the pictures to stimulate childrens language development. Three out of four pedagouges interviewed said that they deliberately discuss the pictures in the picture books with the children. Bilder i barnböcker möter barn och pedagoger dagligen i förskolan, vanligen vid planerade lässtunder. Syftet med denna studie är att ge en bild av vilka strategier pedagogerna har kring användandet av bilderna i barnlitteraturen för att stimulera barns språkutveckling. Denna studie är en kvalitativ intervjustudie där jag har valt att fokusera på pedagogernas syn på bilder samt deras användande av bilderna. Denna studie visar att språkutveckling är ett stort område där bilden är en viktig del. Samtliga pedagoger använder sig av bilder för att stimulera barns språkutveckling. Tre av fyra intervjuade pedagoger svarade att de medvetet för diskussioner om bilderna i barnböckerna tillsammans med barnen.

The purpose of this study is to find out how, when and why the pre-school teachers work with the meaning that the food has for our bodies. The method used for this survey was to interview six pre-school teachers to try to find out when they work with passing on this knowledge to the children, how they choose to work with this topic and why they think it’s important to spread awareness among the children in preschool about this. The result of the study showed that the pre-school teachers see them selves as strong influences when it comes to giving the children in pre-school a good foundation and a healthy attitude towards food. The pre-school has a responsibility for the childrens knowledge of good food and how its related to good health and well-being but the study also showed that pre-school teachers consider them selfes to have too little knowledge when it comes to this subject and this inhibits them from giving the children any profound knowledge more than that milk is good for our skeleton och vegetables and fruit keeps us healthy. Syftet med denna undersökning har varit att ta reda på hur, när och varför förskollärare, inom förskolan, arbetar med matens betydelse för kroppen. Metoden som användes för undersökningen var kvalitativa intervjuer av sex stycken förskollärare där det skulle undersökas hur de förmedlar vidare sin kunskap till barnen, hur de jobbar med och runt detta ämne och varför det är viktigt att barnen inom förskolan får ta del av denna kunskap. Resultatet av denna undersökning visade att förskollärare ansåg sig ha en stark roll gällande att lägga en bra grund och ge barnen en sund inställning till mat. Förskolan har ansvar för att ge barnen kunskap om att bra kost hör ihop med god hälsa och välbefinnande men undersökningen visade att förskollärare anser sig ha för lite kunskap för att kunna ge barnen någon djupare kunskap än att mjölk är bra för skelettet och grönsaker och frukt håller oss friska.

The purpose of this thesis was to study how preschool teachers interpret the values of the preschool curriculum that relates to culture and how the teachers describe how they work with these values in their professional practice. The study is based on social constructive and discourse analytic perspectives. I have studied how preschool teachers construct the concept of culture and the values of the preschool curriculum through a specific way to describe this. A specific way to talk about something is called a discourse. In other words I have studied preschool teachers expressed discourses about culture and their professional practice with the values of the preschool curriculum. To study this, I've done interviews with four preschool teachers. In the interviews I let the teachers interpret the words from the pre-school curriculum that relate to culture and describe how they work with these in their professional practice. In the next step I used the transcribed interviews for the discourse analysis. I did the analysis by searching for discursive patterns in what preschool teachers say. It appeared that all preschool teachers used the same words in the interpretations and descriptions, and that some of these words were described to have internal relationships between each other. The words that were described to relate to each other were: The family and The preschool, Similarity and Difference, and The individual and the Group. But the words and the relationships where described in different ways in the interpretations of the curriculum and in the descriptions of the practical work. I interpreted this to be two different discourses, one discourse about the words in curriculum and one discourse about their practical work. I call these: The discourse about the theory and The discourse about the practice. Within the discourse about the theory all children were described as culturally different from each other and that was a positive value that the pre-school should plan the work around. The work should also be planned around the children’s individual interests and cultures. The relationship between the family and the preschool where described as an important and unproblematic part of this work. In the discourse about the practice only some children was described as different. It was the children that by the teachers were interpreted as non-Swedish. Only these where described to have an individual culture, different from the Swedish culture. They were describe as different from "us", from the Swedes. In this discourse the relationship with the so called different children’s families were described as a very important part of the preschools work with culture, but the relationship with the children of the interpreted Swedish families was not described to be as important. To work with what the preschool teachers described as a Swedish culture was also very important so that the different children would be able to be a part of the group, the swedes. Finally, I looked at how these two discourses relate to other discourses within the school system that I have seen in other scientific studies. When doing so, I saw both similarities and differences from other discourses. The way to describe some children to be different from others, different from "us" was one similarity, but the aim to plan the pre-schools work around the children’s individual interests was for example different from the other discourses.

Lärares genusmedvetenhet i relation till naturvetenskaplig verksamhet är fokus för denna avhandling, som belyses genom två studier: en longitudinell aktionsforskningsstudie som genomfördes tillsammans med en grupp förskollärare/lärare och en studie där verksamma förskollärare/lärare under en fortbildningskurs fick tillämpa en genusteori på en verklig klassrumshändelse. Studierna visar att genusarbete är komplicerat eftersom det inbegriper många aspekter av livet och en viktig del av genusmedvetenheten är att förhålla sig till dessa olika aspekter. Det är av avgörande betydelse att utmana föreställningar om genus, där utmaningarna resulterar i att föreställningarna blir verbaliserade och därmed synliggjorda. Vidare visar studierna att genom att ta avstamp i feministisk vetenskapskritik och pedagogik kan ett alternativt sätt att förhålla sig till lärande och undervisning i naturvetenskap bli möjligt. För lärare som inte har en naturvetenskaplig bakgrund, men som ska genomföra aktiviteter eller undervisa i ämnena, blir de didaktiska och pedagogiska kompetenser de redan besitter en startpunkt för att utveckla sina ämnesdidaktiska förmågor. Kompetensutveckling med ett feministiskt anslag kan ge lärarna ”empowerment” som medför att de känner större delaktighet i den naturvetenskapliga praktiken och därmed kan bidra till att utveckla såväl dess kultur som kunskapsstoffet. Avhandlingen ger också nya metodologiska kunskapsbidrag om aktionsforskning. Ett resultat är att tid är en viktig faktor som man måste ta hänsyn till beroende på vilken förändring man vill åstadkomma. Forskaren som deltar i aktionsforskningen som en ”outsider” har en viktig funktion genom att kunna överblicka processen samt uppmärksamma och använda sig av kritiska händelser för att driva förändringsarbetet framåt. The main focus in this thesis is teachers’ gender awareness related to scientific practice. The thesis is based on two different empirical studies: a longitudinal action research study together with a group of teachers (K-6) and a study during an in-service development course where experienced teachers applied gender theory on a real classroom situation, a case. The studies show that working with gender is complicated and comprises of many aspects of human life. An important part of gender awareness is to be able to relate to these aspects. A question of vital importance is to challenge conceptions of gender in such a way that the conceptions will be verbalized and thereby visualized. Moreover, the studies show that feminist pedagogy and theory of science can lead to a new approach to teaching and learning in science. For teachers without any background in science, there are other competences than just subject matter knowledge that are vital for teaching. Feminist perspectives in professional development reinforce teachers’ pedagogical competences and their pedagogical content knowledge and thereby make these teachers feel they participate in the scientific practice and contribute in developing both the stuff of knowledge and its culture. The thesis also contributes to new methodological knowledge about action research. One of the results is that time is an important factor to take into consideration depending on what kind of change you want to receive. The researcher engaged in action research as an "outsider" has an important function in order to monitor the process and pay attention and use critical events to drive the change process forward.

Syftet med föreliggande avhandlingsarbete är att få större kunskap om några av förutsättningarna för förskolans pedagogiska verksamhet och få veta mer om vad som faktiskt sker ute i förskolans barngrupper. I avhandlingen kartläggs tolv förskollärares föreställningar om förskolan och uppfattningar om arbete, lek och inlärning samt hur de agerar i barngrupp med avseende på dessa begrepp. Föreställningar och uppfattningar hos tjuogoen lärarkandidater har också kartlagts, dels vid böljan av deras förskollärarutbildning, dels efter avslutad utbildning.1981 presenterade Socialstyrelsen en ny arbetsplan för förskolan. Den kan betraktas som ett försök till lösning av olika problem inom förskolan som utvecklats under en period av ca tio år. Arbete, lek och inlärning framställdes i arbetsplanen som centrala begrepp vilka gav struktur och innehåll åt förskolans pedagogiska verksamhet. I avhandlingen fokuseras föreställningar och uppfattningar. Dessa kan definieras som strukturerande och integrerande principer av övergripande art som är avgörande för hur en individ tolkar och värderar omvärlden. Förskollärarnas och lärarkandidaternas föreställningar och uppfattningar kartlades genom intervjuanalyser. En särskild kortsorteringsuppgift konstruerades och gavs i samband med intervjuerna. Förskollärarna observerades också i barngrupp.Resultatet visar att några av förskollärarna hade föreställningar om förskolan som "en institution för kompensation" eller som "en institution för utveckling". De flesta av dem såg förskolan som "en institution för anpassning". De hade även skilda uppfattningar om arbete, lek och inlärning. De olika uppfattningskategorierna kan sägas ge uttryck för ett mer eller mindre "pedagogiserat" eller "psykologiserat" synsätt; "vuxencentrerat" eller "barncentrerat" synsätt Observationerna visar att förskollärarna inte helt agerade i enlighet med den syn de gav uttryck för i intervjuerna. De agerade mer lika varandra i praktiken än vad man hade anledning att anta. De flesta av dem uttryckte i sin praktik att förskolan är en institution för "anpassning", endast få gav uttryck för "utveckling" och ingen alls för "kompensation". De uppfattningar som främst kom till uttryck i praktiken var att arbete är "förelagd uppgift", lek är en "terapeutisk nödvändighet" och inlärning är "social träning". I avhandlingen diskuteras resultaten i belysning av förskolans utveckling under 1970-talet. Professionalisering, yttre förutsättningar för verksamheten och förskolans tradition är begrepp som också används i diskussionen och för förklaring av resultaten. The purpose of this dissertation is to acquire greater knowledge of some of the conditions of the educational activities of pre-school as well as of what is actually going on in pre-school. The study examines twelve pre-school teachers' notions of pre-school and conceptions of work, play and learning and how they interact with children with respect to these concepts. The notions and conceptions of a group of twenty-one trainee teachers have also been studied at the beginning and at the end of their training. In 1981 a new plan for pre-schooling was presented by The National Board of Health and Welfare which can be regarded as an attempt at solving pre-school problems arisen the last ten year period. Work, play and learning were the central concepts in the plan, providing pre-school, day-nurseries and part-time-groups, with structure and content. In the study, notions and conceptions are key-words. They can be defined as structuring and integrating, comprehensive principles determining how an individual interprets and evaluates the surrounding world. Notions and conceptions are examined through interview analyses. A special classification item was designed and administered in connection with the interviews. The pre-school teachers were also observed interacting with the group of children for fifteen hours.The results show that some of the pre-school teachers had notions of pre-school as "an institution for compensation" or as "an institution for development". Most of them regarded pre-school as "an institution for adjustment". They also had different conceptions of work, play and learning. The categories of conceptions express a more or less "educationalized" or "psychologized" attitude, an "adult-referenced" or "child-referenced" attitude. Regarding the conceptions of activities it is maintained that the trainee teachers have become "educationalized" in the course of their training. They expressed fewer notions that can be described as "child-referenced" or " psychologized". The observations show that the pre-school teachers did not act quite in accordance with the view they expressed in the interviews. They acted more uniformly than could be expected. The practices of most pre-school teachers indicated pre-school as "an institution for adjustment", only rarely "development", never "compensation". The most frequent conceptions expressed in their practices were that work is "assigned tasks", play is a "therapeutic necessity" and learning is "social training". The results are dicussed in the light of the development of pre-school in Sweden during the 1970s. Professionally, frame-factors, tradition in pre-school are important concepts for the understanding of the results. digitalisering@umu
