To overcome the difficulty and unprecedented suspensions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, every organization is required to consider strategic steps to sustain, one of which is by implementing digital transformation and developing leadership capability. This study aims to determine the impact of digital transformation and leadership capability in maintaining the organization, particularly in distance education. This study used questionnaires distributed to 402 students to obtain their opinions on digital transformation, leadership capability, and organizational resilience in Universitas Terbuka, a founder of distance education institutions in Indonesia. Data were analyzed using descriptive and Higher-Order Structural Equation Modeling analysis. Based on the modelling, it is shown that the modelling had a good value of the Goodness of Fit Indicator through a standardized loading factor (SLF) more than the tolerable loading factor limit (>0.50). The Variance Extracted (VE) and Construct Reliability (CR) values also showed that the questions on every indicator used in this study were sufficiently measurable and reliable. The results of hypothesis testing indicated that there was a positive and significant impact of digital transformation and leadership capability on the organizational resilience of Universitas Terbuka.

This paper's purpose is to investigate the attitude of students in mathematical discovery processes in terms of the handling of counterexamples. By understanding this attitude as a kind of scientific attitude, it consists of different aspects that become visible in the behaviour during a mathematical discovery process. Since such a process is particularly complex, the author's interest is to use the concept of attitude as an explanation for students' behaviour that occurs when dealing with conflicts such as counterexamples. Semi-structured interviews with sixth graders of a German Gymnasium were conducted and analysed in a qualitative and interpretative way. As a result, the case study of Alex and Milo is presented. Based on the framework that observable behaviour is influenced by an underlying attitude, there are drawn conclusions about Alex's and Milo's attitudes adopted in the mathematical discovery process and their impact on the process is elaborated.

This study contributes to the call for influencing practice by increasing attention to how learning environments can be designed to support learning in statistical inference. We report on a design experiment in secondary school (students 14-16 years old), that resulted in a set of lessons with the learning goal of teaching students how to apply concepts and principles of hypothesis testing for making an inference as to whether or not students in secondary school can taste the difference between two brands of cola soda. The design experiment resulted in four design principles for a simulation-based approach for learning hypothesis testing in secondary school. The design principles highlight the combination of practical and digital simulations of samplings. They stress the need for using random generators that allow for high reliability in collecting sample data and introduce a simulation-based method for determining p-values, i.e. to quantify how likely or surprising a sample result, or a result more extreme, is under a null hypothesis.

Students often learn about measurement uncertainty as an isolated topic, with a focus on generalizable strategies to manage uncertainty in scientific investigation. In this study, we report and analyze a case of emergent learning about measurement and uncertainty, in which students in a Chinese elementary school science class explored and reconciled discrepancies in hypotheses by constructing and using measures and making inferences. Adopting a model-based view of measurement, we show that when allowed to take on emergent measurement uncertainty while inquiring into causes for phenomena, late elementary students with no prior experience can engage in sophisticated reasoning characterized by a variety of theoretical modeling practices. Developing and aligning models of the phenomenon, the measure and the measurement data supported students in constructing an intuitive solution to their discrepancies. Our analysis also identified (1) a pattern of thinking and some common assumptions students adopted in their modeling practice that were productive, and (2) contextual elements affording and constraining emergent learning on measurement and uncertainty. In our discussion, we reflect on the educational potential of adopting a model-based account of measurement and of treating measurement and uncertainty as integrated into investigative practice. We also discuss the necessary contexts for realizing the potential of the model-based account.

We empirically examined the effectiveness of how the Analysis of Competing Hypotheses (ACH) technique structures task information to help reduce confirmation bias (Study 1) and the portrayal of intelligence analysts as suffering from such bias (Study 2). Study 1 (N = 161) showed that individuals presented with hypotheses in rows and evidence items in columns were significantly less likely to demonstrate confirmation bias, whereas those presented with the ACH-style matrix (with hypotheses in columns and evidence items in rows) or a paragraph of text (listing the evidence for each hypothesis) were not less likely to demonstrate bias. The ACH-style matrix also did not confer any benefits regarding increasing sensitivity to evidence credibility. Study 2 showed that the majority of 62 Dutch military analysts did not suffer from confirmation bias and were sensitive to evidence credibility. Finally, neither judgmental coherence nor cognitive reflection differentiated between better or worse performers in the hypotheses evaluation tasks.

The purpose of this study was to determine teachers' approaches to Marzano's effective instructional strategies (MEISs), as defined by Marzano, Pickering and Pollack (2001) in the secondary schools in Turkey and Russia and tell whether they differ or not. In this study survey research - one of the quantitative approaches -- was carried out. The participants for the study were 54 teachers of English in Turkey and 40 teachers of English in Russia. "The Effective Instructional Strategies Questionnaire" and an open-ended questionnaire were used to gather data. Data was generated utilizing content analysis and non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test. The results related to the first and second research questions revealed that there were partial differences between Turkish and Russian teachers' approaches to Marzano's nine effective instructional strategies and to usage of these strategies. Turkish teachers place less importance than Russian teachers on such strategies as summarizing and note taking, homework and practice, generating and testing hypothesis. As to Russian teachers, they do not espouse strategies in the category of non-linguistic representations as much as Turkish teachers do. The results of the study showed that Turkish and Russian teachers' approaches and the usage of the strategies differ.

The purpose of this article is to illustrate the dynamic process involved in developing and utilizing a theoretical model in a mixed methods study. Specifically, I illustrate how the theoretical model can serve as the starting point in framing the study, as a lens for guiding the data collection and analysis, and as the end point in explaining the integrated findings. The article is based on an explanatory sequential mixed methods study conducted with 248 teachers in Jamaican secondary schools that sought to understand how beliefs shaped their use of technology. This article contributes to mixed methods research by providing illustrations and analytical insights into the role of a theoretical model in enhancing rigor in designing and conducting mixed methods research.

The diversity of scientific methods has received increasing attention in the field of science education. This paper aimed to investigate how preservice chemistry teachers perceive scientific methods and their diversity. Based on the theoretical framework of Brandon's Matrix and previous research, two tasks (i.e., Task 1 "understanding of the components of Brandon's Matrix" and Task 2 "views on the diversity of scientific methods") and follow-up interview questions were developed in this study as research instruments. 130 preservice chemistry teachers from two universities in China were selected as participants. The statistical results of the questionnaire survey revealed that the participants showed a relatively satisfactory understanding of the components of Brandon's Matrix, and they judged the hypothesis testing more accurately than variable manipulation. However, the majority of participants held relatively naive views on the diversity of scientific methods, suggesting that they endorsed the idea of "the scientific method". Moreover, it was found by in-depth interviews that four typically held reasons led to the misunderstanding of scientific methods by preservice chemistry teachers, namely, misinterpreting the liberal meaning of item scenarios, misconceptions in identifying the "variable manipulation", grade disparity in the scientificity, and past learning experience in chemistry. At the end of this paper, the implications of the findings and the suggestions for further research were discussed.

In light of the replication crisis in psychology, null-hypothesis significance testing (NHST) and "p"-values have been heavily criticized and various alternatives have been proposed, ranging from slight modifications of the current paradigm to banning "p"-values from journals. Since the physics education research community often relies on quantitative statistical approaches, the challenges the replication crisis poses to these approaches need to be considered. "p"-values suffer primarily from the fact that they carry little information by themselves and lend themselves to misinterpretations. As one alternative, Bayesian approaches have become increasingly popular as the posterior distributions they provide carry more relevant information than "p"-values. In this paper, we discuss practical issues related to "p-values" with respect to interpreting and communicating results and how these issues can be addressed using a Bayesian approach. Drawing on a science education data set, we demonstrate how Bayesian data analysis methods go beyond p-values and can help to make more valid conclusions and to communicate them more easily in a manner that lends itself to less misinterpretations.

The study used experimental research design to randomly selected senior high school students in analysing their attitude and achievement in statistics when contextual teaching is implemented. In addition to structured questionnaires, semi-structured interviews with the students were also conducted to provide rich descriptions about learning experiences with contextual teaching. Results revealed that students have positive attitude towards statistics and that students learn better with contextualized instruction than direct instruction. With this, contextualized instruction must be promoted in teaching statistics. By linking it to the real world, students would be able to view statistics more than just a subject. Thus, it makes the statistical hypothesis testing learning more enjoyable and exciting.

This study reviews and compares indicators that can serve to characterize numerically the nature of state sequences. It also introduces several new indicators. Alongside basic measures such as the length, the number of visited distinct states, and the number of state changes, we shall consider composite measures such as turbulence and the complexity index, and measures that take account of the nature (e.g., positive vs. negative or ranking) of the states. The discussion points out the strange behavior of some of the measures--Elzinga's turbulence and the precarity index of Ritschard, Bussi, and O'Reilly in particular--and propositions are made to avoid these flaws. The usage of the indicators is illustrated with two applications using data from the Swiss Household Panel. The first application tests the U-shape hypothesis about the evolution of life satisfaction along the life course, and the second one examines the scarring effect of earlier employment sequences.

The past century has seen a debate on what characterises a scientifically literate citizen. Originally, scientific literacy implied that a citizen should know the products of science but has grown to incorporate processes of science and aspects of the nature of science. Studies on students' epistemic knowledge are rarer than ones on students' content knowledge. However, PISA has made an innovative attempt to measure epistemic knowledge. The purpose of this study is to investigate qualitative features in student responses to epistemic items in PISA. Six constructed response items on epistemic knowledge from PISA 2018 Science were chosen. The student responses coded as 'full credit' were put aside and thematic analysis was used to analyse the remaining 'no credit' responses. The results show that it is common to focus on the scientific phenomenon (content knowledge) or the method itself (procedural knowledge) instead of epistemic knowledge. One feasible explanation is that epistemic knowledge is intellectually demanding; another is that epistemic knowledge is still overshadowed firstly by content knowledge and secondly by procedural knowledge. The fact that students tackle epistemic aspects of science as content or procedural knowledge suggests that teaching should more explicitly distinguish between these different aspects of scientific knowledge.

Student problems (preconceptions, errors, and learner-specific approaches) that arise when planning and conducting experiments are relevant for lesson planning and the further development of teaching practice overall. student problems are understood as a learning opportunity. So far, little attention has been paid to the relationships between different student problems when planning and conducting an experiment. A search of relevant literature revealed no work addressing this issue. So, this study investigates whether any relationships exist between various student problems. 53 students (age: 10-16) were filmed while planning and conducting experiments themselves (students worked individually, not in groups). The films were translated into observation protocols and analysed according to Mayring's qualitative content analysis technique. Students were given two tasks to solve using experiments: one on yeast and another on cone scales. The student problems identified were analysed using hierarchical cluster analysis to search for relationships. In the analyses of both tasks, only one, near-identical cluster was found. The cluster includes the student problem variables: 'hypothesis consists of a combination of variables', 'hypothesis is changed during the experiment without being checked', 'missing test trial', 'missing control trial', and 'experimental trials are altered'. No other student problems showed any relationship to each other.

Understanding that hypothesis testing is aimed at seeking information rather than producing desirable outcomes is indispensable for designing informative experiments. This study investigated the developmental course of information seeking compared to producing an effect in young children. In a between-subjects design, 4- to 6-year-olds (N = 109) were presented with the same pattern of events and asked to choose an intervention to either seek information on whether a hypothesis is right or produce an effect. The results revealed a developmental change between 4 and 6 years of age. From 5.5 years and onwards, children selectively chose the correct interventions in both conditions, whereas 4- and younger 5-year-olds did not. Contrary to the general view that producing desirable outcomes developmentally precedes engaging in information seeking, the present findings indicate that they follow a similar developmental line in the early childhood years.

In this research, we explore how coworker ideation levels or, more specifically, the average ideation levels of coworkers within a workgroup affect a focal employee's ideation. We examine an underlying mechanism and a boundary condition of this influence process. Drawing on social cognitive theory, we argue that high coworker ideation levels are likely to stimulate a focal employee's ideation by enhancing their creative self-efficacy. Furthermore, we suggest that this positive influence is likely to be strengthened when the focal employee has a higher than lower quality of exchange with their coworkers. The results of two field studies provide support for all of the hypotheses. Contributions to theory and insights into practice and future research are discussed.

This article reports on a study in which third-grade students (8-9 years) were given a degree of agency in conducting chance experiments and representing the outcomes. Students chose their own samples of 12 coloured counters, ensuring all colours were represented. They predicted the outcomes of item selection, tested their predictions, explained the outcomes, quantified their chances of colour selections, and created two representations displaying the probabilities. Children displayed awareness of randomness and variation, together with proportional reasoning, as evident in their identification of one or more colours as having a greater chance of being selected, or equal chances when proportions of colours were equal. Evidence of children's metarepresentational competence appeared in their creation of two representations to display their probabilistic outcomes, with bar and circle graphs, as well as stacked bars, created. The inclusion of their own forms of inscription revealed a range of probability and statistics understandings. In selecting and justifying their preferred representations for conveying their outcomes, students favoured both bar and circle graphs, with a focus on how accurately, effectively, and efficiently their representation displayed the data, with the importance of the inscriptions highlighted.

This study intended to empirically investigate the influence of select factors on the remote learning performance of accounting students at a business college in Kuwait. The study attempted to address some factors that might influence accounting students' performance when learning remotely and that have not been investigated in prior research within distance accounting education literature. A stepwise regression model used a sample of 100 accounting students who were enrolled during the COVID-19 pandemic and had learned remotely to test the study's hypotheses. The results indicated that the college GPA had the most significant influence on the remote learning performance of accounting students, followed by students' age.

Preparing pre-service science teachers (PSSTs) with the scientific research skills (SRSs) is an ultimate aim of PSSTs' programs. This study aimed to explore PSSTs' understanding level of SRHs (SRHUL). To this end, an action research (AR) was adopted using a pre-post-test design. In doing so, a multiple choice test which consists of 15 items was developed and conducted on a random sample comprising 120 subjects. Results of the study revealed that participants showed insufficient performance on the test of understanding scientific research hypotheses (SRHUT) for both pre and post-test. Besides, results of t-test showed a significant difference between mean scores of pre-test and post-test. The difference was in favor of post-test. Also, results of one-way ANOVA revealed a non-significant difference between or within mean scores of compared groups. Based on the results of the study, some recommendations were made.

The role of statistics is wide and crucial in daily life, making statistics important. Many students have difficulty understanding statistics. This study aims to determine students' statistical reasoning about inference statistics, which is limited to the subject matter of the testing hypotheses about two-sample hypotheses testing. This study used descriptive research method. The subjects were 25 students of third-year Mathematics Education Departement at Universitas PGRI Palembang in the academic year 2018/2019. Data were collected through tests and interviews. Data were analyzed through descriptive quantitative. The results of data analysis showed that 32% of students had level 1 statistical reasoning (the lowest level), 20% were at level 2, 28% at level 3, 12% at level 4 and 8% at level 5 (highest level). Based on the result, it can conclude that students' statistical reasoning ability in learning statistical method is not satisfactory, students are still very lacking in reasoning.

This study examines meta-analysis studies published in the field of educational sciences from 2010-2019, in journals indexed within the scope of the TÜBITAK ULAKBIM TR Directory. Of the 163 studies scanned, 26 meta-analysis studies that meet the inclusion criteria constitute the sample of this content analysis study. Within this research, a meta-analysis control form (MACF) developed by the researchers was used. The coding made by each of the two researchers has been considered, and it is concluded that the coherence between the codings was is sufficient (82%). The results of this research indicate that the most obvious problems in meta-analysis studies are: not establishing hypotheses; not calculating reliability between encoders; not using a flow chart (in terms of traceability); the use of commercial software in the analysis; not combining effect sizes on a common metric; use of the failsafe N in determining publication bias; evaluation of I[superscript 2] on the basis of categories; and decision making according to the result of the heterogeneity test in model determination. It is thought that the current study will contribute methodologically to the avoidance of errors in future meta-analysis studies.

Most psycholinguistic models of reading aloud and of speech production do not include linguistic representations more fine-grained than the phoneme, despite the fact that the available empirical evidence suggests that feature-level representations are activated during reading aloud and speech production. In a series of masked-priming experiments that employed the reading aloud task, we investigated effects of phonological features, such as voicing, place of articulation, and constriction location, on response latencies in English and Russian. We propose a hypothesis that predicts greater likelihood of obtaining feature-priming effects when the onsets of the prime and the target share more feature values than when they share fewer. We found that prime-target pairs whose onsets differed only in voicing (e.g., /p/-/b/) primed each other consistently in Russian, as has already been found in English. Response latencies for prime-target pairs whose onsets differed in place of articulation (e.g., /b/-/d/) patterned differently in English and Russian. Prime-target pairs whose onsets differed in constriction location only (e.g., /s/ and /[voiceless retroflex fricative]/) did not yield a priming effect in Russian. We conclude that feature-priming effects are modulated not only by the phonological similarity between the onsets of primes and targets but also by the dynamics of feature activation and by the language-specific relationship between orthography and phonology. Our findings suggest that feature-level representations need to be included in models of reading aloud and of speech production if we are to move forward with theorizing in these research domains.

This paper investigated the influence of moderating variables on Nigerian undergraduates' emotional intelligence and attitude towards examination. Descriptive survey of the correlational type was employed for the study. One thousand, five hundred and thirty-six (1,536) undergraduates in Nigeria were drawn using purposive and stratified sampling techniques. Two null hypotheses were generated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. "Emotional Intelligence Scale" (EIS) and "Attitude Towards Examination Scale" (ATES) were the instruments used to collect relevant data. The findings revealed that there was a significant correlation between emotional intelligence and attitude of Nigerian undergraduates towards examination. The findings also revealed that gender, age, level of study, university and family type had a significant positive influence on undergraduates' emotional intelligence and attitude towards examination in Nigeria. It was therefore recommended, among others, that students should continue to cultivate the habit of developing high emotional intelligence as it would help them to develop positive attitude towards examination, effective leadership skills such as improved communication among peers and other people, less school and workplace conflict, better problem-solving skills and increased likelihood of promotions to greater heights.

This paper aims to explore the mediation effect of psychological capital and perceived organizational support on the relationship between authentic leadership and intention to stay. The structural equation modeling technique was used to test the hypothesized model. A survey was administered to collect data targeting a sample of randomly selected teachers working at high schools in Tehran. The results suggest that authentic leadership significantly influences teachers' intention to stay, psychological capital, perceived organizational support. As predicted, both perceived organizational support and psychological capital had a significant positive direct effect on intention to stay. The effect of authentic leadership on intention to stay was found to be mediated by teachers' psychological capital and perceived organizational support. This study shows how leaders can enhance teachers' intention to stay by applying authentic leadership, engendering psychological capital and creating supportive environment.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a counseling program in modifying the negative behavior of male students aged 11-15 years. The researcher used the semi-empirical approach with two measurements, pre and posttest measurements. A purposive sample of 52 students was selected and divided into two groups, experimental and control groups. Each group comprised a number of 26 male students respectively. The researcher developed the behavioral modification and counseling program questionnaire. The study showed that there were statistically significant differences in reducing the level of negative behavior in the experimental group attributed to the counseling program. The experimental group mean reached a score of 87.08 and the control group's mean was 227. The results also indicated that the experimental group has a statistically significant difference for the minimum permissible level of negative behavior (110), where the mean for negative behavior reached 87.08, a decrease of 22.92. The effect of the independent factor on the dependent factor was significant, given that the d-value was 2.07, which is greater than the value 0.8. The study recommended for the group counseling program to be employed and circulated due to its positive results in modifying behavior.

This study was carried out to determine the effect of guided inquiry teaching method (GITM) on secondary school students' achievement in light and sound waves in Abuja, Nigeria. A sample of 95 students drawn from a population of 1,832 was used for the study. Two research questions were raised and answered in the study using mean and standard deviation while two hypotheses formulated were tested using ANCOVA at 0.05 level of significant. Quasi-experimental research design comprising experimental and control groups was used for the study. The instrument for data gathering was light and sound waves achievement test (LASWAT). A validity index of 0.86 and a reliability index of 0.87 were respectively obtained for LASWAT. Students in both groups were given pre-test before instruction. During the instruction, the same content was presented to the two groups for a period of six weeks and thereafter a post-test was administered. The findings of the study revealed that the experimental group significantly scored higher in post-test than the control group. This is evidenced in H01, F(1, 93) = 85.476 and P = 0.000 < x = 0.05. The results also showed that gender has no significant influence on mean achievement scores of students taught light and sound waves using GITM as revealed in H02, F(1,48) = 0.656 and P = 0.413 > x = 0.05. The findings simply imply that GITM is superior to the conventional method in enhancing students' achievement in light and sound waves irrespective of gender in Abuja. Nigeria.

This study investigated the effects of providing domain information in an early stage of an inquiry process, together with an aligned hypothesis scratchpad, on inquiry learning, and hypothesis generation in particular. Participants were provided with basic domain information that was adapted to their prior knowledge (experimental condition) or received no introduction to the domain (control condition) before writing their hypotheses. Sixty-nine secondary school students from two countries were randomly assigned to the experimental or the control condition. These two conditions were compared on hypothesis generation, the subsequent inquiry processes of data recording and drawing conclusions, and knowledge acquisition. Results indicate that the supported students could specify more testable relations in their hypotheses, and could write hypotheses with higher levels of informativeness about variables, conditions, and relations. No differences between conditions were found on data recording, drawing conclusions, and knowledge acquisition. Limitations and directions for future research are presented.

English language is an important international language and a considerable part of time and expenses is devoted to learning it. Since many academicians and common people invest a lot of time on learning it, an increase in learning speed is certainly an urgent need. The current study tried to empirically examine the influence of an affective factor namely Emotional Intelligence on Reading Skill as affective factors play a role in learning in general and language learning in particular. Intermediate EFL learners in Iran were given an IELTS test for evaluating their reading proficiency. Next, the Emotional Quotient of the subjects were calculated and after that teaching Emotional Intelligence was started. The subjects received instructions for one year on both Emotional Intelligence and Reading Skill. The difference in scores of both Emotional Intelligence and IELTS tests were then statistically calculated to observe the progress in each issue. The findings of the study showed a significant progress both in Emotional Intelligence and Reading Skill of the subjects in the experimental group, but no significance was observed in the control group. The results of the present research could help develop the knowledge on Emotional Intelligence enhancement and its possible effect(s) on language learning.

Information literacy skills are the ability that enables learners to successfully surf the internet in search of information to improve learning. The internet is a platform that consists of different resources where learners can search for and retrieve information. However, undergraduates do not possess the skills to surf the internet, find and use needed information and filter out irrelevant ones. This study was a descriptive research of the survey type. The objectives were to: (1) Examine the information literary skills possessed by undergraduate students. (2) Determine gender influence on the information literacy skills of undergraduates in the use of internet resources in Kwara State, Nigeria. 294 undergraduates were purposefully selected based on school proprietorship (Federal, State and Private). Israel model (2013) was used to determine the sample size. Two research questions were raised and answered using mean, frequency counts and percentage while one hypothesis was generated and tested using t-test statistic. The findings of the study showed that: (1) Undergraduates possessed task definition with grand mean of (3.54) located and assessed information with grand mean of (3.43) and synthesis skills with grand mean of (3.37); and (2) there was a significant difference between male and female students' information literacy skills on the use of internet resources for learning t(292)=2.86,p<0.05 in favour of the male. Female undergraduates should be encouraged to develop interest in surfing the internet for relevant learning resources.

The competence of distance educators has a significant impact on learners' success. The paradigm shift for universities to become distance and electronic learning environments justifies the urgency to address competency gaps in distance educators' competencies efficiently. From a strategic human resource development perspective, the systems theory is used to explain the idea of maximising outputs with the minimum inputs (Biddle, 1986). In this study, distance educators at Unisa reflected on their experienced competency gaps. Where previous studies mainly focus on the size of the gaps, the aim of this article is to highlight the competency gaps likely to have the biggest impact. For this study, we used stratified non-probability sampling, and selected 407 academics who were, at the time of the study, permanently employed at a mega ODL university in South Africa. These academics represented a wide range of colleges, campuses, ages, and genders. The results of this study have implications for capacity building of academic staff in developing world contexts and other contexts where resources are scarce.

Anxiety is one of the critical medical conditions that affect individuals due to various reasons. Some of these reasons may be related to inheritance while others are acquired during major life events. In this investigation, the level of unemployment anxiety was evaluated for students at Firat University, Elazig, Turkey. The study population comprised of 1161 students. The sampling of investigation consisted of 30% of the population (333) students randomly selected from both genders. Spielberger State -Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) has been utilized for evaluating both state and unemployment anxiety levels. Furthermore, for analysing the results, SPSS 22.0 was applied. The null hypothesis in this research was considered as (p < 0.05) where any lower significance was considered as evidence proofing the existence of a relationship. The results revealed that there were significant relationships between the state anxiety and gender (for both male and female), age ranges (16-18) and (19-21), first and second educational years, job priorities (having a status and being a human useful for society), work experience, and for the hope of finding a job. On the other hand, significant relationships were found between the trait anxiety and both male and female students, age ranges (19-21), (22-25) and (26-28), study level, job priorities (earning money and being a human useful for society), work experience and the hope of finding a job.

This study aims to study the mediation role of locus of control on the impact of learned helplessness on students' academic procrastination. Studies reported that more than 70% university students procrastinate, and one of the causes is the perception that one is vulnerable or helpless in finishing the procrastinate tasks. It was hypothesized that internal locus of control iLOC can reduce the effect if the learned helplessness (LH) on academic procrastination. Data was collected from 60 university students by utilizing instruments such as Duttweiller's Internal Control Scale, Pure Procrastination Scale (adapted for academic setting) and Learned Helplessness Scale. Multiple regression with Process add-on showed that full mediation occurred; the prediction of LH on procrastination became insignificant when iLOC is controlled. In other words, when students believe that they are in control of their events, the less likely they will procrastinate doing their tasks due to helpless feeling.

Purpose: This study proposed and examined the effectiveness of e-learning content design by considering two different subjects (mathematics and reading) and areas (metropolitan and rural). This study also investigated several variables, i.e., students' satisfaction, motivation, and experience, that influenced learning abilities. Moreover, we suggest ways of improving the effectiveness of e-learning for different kinds of students, subjects, and areas. Methodology: The participants were recruited from 263 randomly selected students in secondary-school grades 9-10 (15 years old). One hundred and thirty-eight students were from a public metropolitan school in Bangkok province, and 125 were from a public rural school in Suphanburi province. The main testing method was divided into two procedures. First, pilot testing was conducted to confirm the reliability, validity, and internal consistency of the program and the exam questions, followed by field testing methods, which researchers used to identify the effectiveness of content design. Data analysis involved a quantitative research approach using a paired "t"-test to find the difference in scores between the pre- and post-tests. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyse and find the relationships between improvements in scores and variables. Findings: The results indicated that the selected patterns of content and design were effective in mathematics and reading subjects and in both rural and metropolitan areas. In addition, the academic achievement, accumulated (overall) grade point average (GPAX), significantly influenced improvements in reading subjects, and the intelligence indicator (IQ) had a significant effect on mathematic subjects in both areas. Furthermore, students' satisfaction had an effect on learning abilities in most student groups. Significance: This pattern of design content may be significant for both instructors and program designers. This study provided a way of designing effective e-learning content that integrated effective indicators to identify potential students and improve their abilities. This pattern can be integrated with active learning. This blended learning model might be the new solution to solving problems with low-performing students in rural areas.

Introduction: Previous studies suggest that the users of social question and answer Websites contribute their knowledge to a community in exchange for intrinsic rewards from other members, such as reciprocity and reputation. Thus, rewarding knowledge contributors is of great importance for maintaining the users of such Websites. However, there is a lack of knowledge on the reward mechanisms used by the sites. In addition, while previous studies have highlighted the importance of reciprocity in motivating knowledge sharing, little is known about how reciprocity takes place in a knowledge community, hence, this study addresses that research gap. Method: This study seeks to explore reward mechanisms and quantify the conversion ratio based on studying the profiles of 33,974 observations from a Chinese social question and answer Website. Analysis. The structural equation modelling technique was adopted to estimate the research model via the partial least squares approach. Results: The results show that users who have more followers and publish more questions and articles, tend to answer more questions on social question and answer Websites. The interaction effect between the users' question-asking activities and the appreciation they receive has a significant influence on user popularity. Conclusions: Writing articles and providing answers generate appreciation from other community members. In addition, users are likely to follow individual users who not only asked interesting questions but who also provided high-quality answers, implying a like-minded effect.

The objective of this study is to contribute to Quality Management Systems (QMS) and their impact on schools in the Basque Country, Spain. Specifically, it analyses two models: the EFQM Excellence Model, which originated in the business world, and the Integrated Quality Project (IQP) Model, which has a humanistic focus and arose from an educational research perspective. To do so, 14 schools were analysed by means of a sample of 315 subjects (42 managers and 273 teachers) who utilise one of these two QMS. The results show that the longer the period of time for which schools had had quality certification, the greater the perception of quality among the teaching staff, regardless of the model used. This leads to the conclusion that having in place a quality model in a school makes the teaching staff more aware of the existence and importance of quality management systems and models and leads them to aspire to higher educational quality.

This study aimed to test the impact of augmented reality (AR) use on student achievement and self-efficacy in vocational education and training. For this purpose, a marker-based AR application, called HardwareAR, was developed. HardwareAR provides information about characteristics of hardware components, ports and assembly. The research design was quasi experimental with pre-test post-test that included a control group. The study was conducted with 46 undergraduate students in the Computer Hardware Course. Computer hardware course achievement test, motherboard assembly self-efficacy questionnaire and unstructured observation form were used in the study for data collection purposes. The control group learned the theoretical and applied information about motherboard assembly by using their textbooks (print material) while students in the experimental group used HardwareAR application for the same purpose. It was found that the use of AR had a positive impact on student achievement in motherboard assembly whereas it had no impact on students self-efficacy related to theoretical knowledge and assembly skills. On the other hand, use of AR helped learners to complete the assembly process in a shorter time with less support. It is concluded that compared to control group students, experimental group students were more successful in computer hardware courses. This result shows that AR application can be effective in increasing achievement. It was concluded that AR application had no effect on students motherboard assembly theoretical knowledge self-efficacy and motherboard assembly skills self-efficacy. This result may have been affected from the fact that students had high levels of theoretical knowledge and assembly skills before the implementation. Observations showed that AR application enabled students to assemble motherboard in a shorter time with less support. It is thought that simultaneous interaction between virtual objects and real world provided by the AR application is effective in reducing assembly time. The students who were able to see the process steps and instructions directly with the help of HardwareAR application could complete the assembly by getting less help. Considering these results, it can be argued that, thanks to simultaneous interaction it provides, AR offers an important alternative for topics that need learner application and practice.

Review of literature suggests that issues in English language policies (ELPs) in higher education foreign language department levels have not been addressed, and the relationship between beliefs about general notions of ELPs and gender has been disregarded. The current study investigates gender-related differences in beliefs on five main notions of ELPs among staff members in Saudi Arabian English departments. An online survey was administered to staff members in different Saudi English departments from different regions in Saudi Arabia. Five general statements on ELPs were included in the survey and were responded to by male (n = 67) and female (n = 143) staff members (total = 210). Pearson's chi-square test of independence and the calculated percentages of responses were used to analyze gender differences. No statistically significant differences were found between male and female participants, with the exception of one statement. Both genders had generally similar beliefs on ELPs. Moreover, the female staff had slightly stronger beliefs than the male staff, and males showed more hesitation than females did when deciding on ELP matters. The study also discusses the implications of the findings and provided recommendations for future research.

This study aimed at investigating the differences between the yields of inquiry-based integrated thematic instruction and thematic instruction model on the character education of primary school students. The population was 253 elementary schools and 63,433 students in Surakarta City, Central Java, Indonesia. Samples were obtained through multistage cluster random sampling, which were then divided into experimental group (four classes, 129 students) and control group (four classes, 139 students). The Randomized Static Group Comparison Design was employed as the design of experiment. Data collection methods were interview, observation, questionnaire, and documentation. The instruments were validated by content validity and construct validity. Test for normality and homogeneity of data used Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Levene Test. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U Test. The result showed that students in the inquiry-based integrated thematic group obtain better score (3.48) than those in the thematic group (3.28). Moreover, the mean rank of the first group (176.07) was also significantly higher than that of the second group (95.92) (Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed). 000<0.05). In overall, inquiry-based integrated thematic instruction has more significant and positive contribution on the character education of primary school students in compared with the thematic instruction model.

Maximum utilization of technology in all fields of life including language education by a country has become inevitable to survive in the competitive world. Saudi government has already invested a lot of efforts and public finance to adopt modern teaching practices using Information Communication Technology (ICT) to supplement English Language Teaching (ELT) in Saudi Arabia. The present study applies Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a theoretical model to explore the effects of different factors on the attitudes of teachers towards using Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in the language learning contexts of Saudi Arabia. The current study investigates the effect of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use on the attitude and intended usage behavior of Saudi English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers towards using CALL. In addition to these two factors borrowed from TAM, three other variables: social influence, facilitating conditions and management support are added into the model. To test the hypothesized model, this study applied a quantitative questionnaire survey approach with participants chosen randomly from 10 different universities in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A total of 421 valid responses received through online questionnaire from the teachers were used for the analysis to achieve research objectives and hypotheses testing. Structural Equation Modeling Analysis was employed to analyze the data. The findings of this study are found very encouraging and provide sufficient support to the proposed model of the study, which was consisting of TAM as the foundation theory. According to TAM, postulation perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use both are two significant elements that determine attitude and intended usage behavior. These hypotheses were found significant, thus provided external validity to the TAM postulations. In addition, the findings suggested that social influence, management support, and facilitating conditions are important factors that influence individuals' intended behavior towards CALL usage.

Today, students are expected to access, analyse and synthesise information, and work cooperatively. Their learning environment, therefore, should be equipped with appropriate tools and materials, and teachers should have instructional abilities to use them effectively. This study aims to propose a model to improve teachers' instructional abilities through technology integration. To this end, data on variables that affect technology integration were collected from 600 teachers and analysed by using path analysis. The results revealed an acceptable fit between the model and the data. Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge, attitude towards technology use in education, gender, frequency of computer use, seniority, duration of computer use, technical support, and individual innovativeness have direct or indirect effects on technology integration. The developed model can be considered original because it includes the variable of individual innovativeness. Based on the developed path model, some suggestions were presented to support the instructional abilities of teachers.

An online survey of 374 US college students was conducted in April, 2015 to examine whether and how subjective norm, direct and indirect experiences related to China, their perceptions of China (China's country reputation), and media coverage of China influence their interests of studying in China. Statistical results show that their subjective norm, China's reputation, and media coverage of China positively predicted their attitudes toward studying in China (R[superscript 2] = 51.5), whereas their intent to study in China (R[superscript 2] = 35.2) was determined by their attitudes, subjective norm, and China experiences. The study indicates that social influence or normative pressure is a much more important factor to shape their attitudes toward studying in China than their overall perceptions of China and media coverage of China. Social influence is also the second most significant predictor of their intent to study in China. The important theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

The current study was an attempt to investigate the effects of different corrective feedback (CF) conditions on Iranian EFL learners' spoken accuracy and fluency (AF) and the trade-off between them. Consequently, four pre-intermediate intact classes were randomly selected as the control, delayed explicit metalinguistic CF, extensive recast, and intensive recast groups. All participants took part in spoken reproduction tasks for six sessions and their spoken grammatical errors were treated differently. Then, the data was transcribed, coded for AF, and analyzed. The results indicated that the different CF conditions had insignificant effects on spoken general accuracy. Considering fluency, there was a significant correlation between pruned and unpruned speech rates, with a large effect size; however, the different CF conditions had insignificant effects on the spoken temporal fluency. The correlations between general accuracy and temporal fluency of all groups were positive and significant with a small effect size. In addition, different CF conditions had insignificant effects on the relationship between accuracy and fluency. These findings suggest that there is no trade-off between general accuracy and temporal fluency. In addition, different CF conditions, particularly when they are focused on a specific form, have insignificant effects on the EFL learners' spoken general accuracy, temporal fluency, and their relationships.

The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the serving leadership and the managers' ability with organizational trust of sport clubs staffs in Erzurum. The research methodology was established based on correlation-descriptive type of study; it also was an applied type of study regarding to its purpose. The information had been gathered as field-based using the related questionnaire from all staffs of Erzurum Clubs. The research data was also gathered as ranking, qualitative and frequency-based in this regard. The statistical population of the related study was included all staffs of Erzurum Clubs. The number of the related staffs was reached to 230 people that the number of the subjects was also taken up from every club. The number of the total staffs for every sport club in Erzurum based on the information and statistics center was 230 people in 2016. The statistical sample using Morgan Table was also reached to 140 people in this study. Three questionnaires of the serving leadership, managers' ability and organizational trust were also applied in order to gather the related data testifying the related hypotheses in this research. The correlation coefficient and t-test and regression analysis also were applied in order to analyze the obtained data in this study. The results showed that there was observed a significant relationship between the scales of the serving leadership (humiliation, trust, serving and kindness) and the ability of managers with the organizational trust in Tabriz Sport Club.

This research aimed to determine the qualifications of lecturers in the field of social science depended on the use of advance technology, especially the power points, the Internet, and social media site. The problem that some of the lecturers preferred to use the traditional way of teaching, such as whiteboard and marker, lectures. This study research was to observe the categories of lecturers' knowledge, ages and gender in using technology in the classroom. Also we sought lecturers' difficulty in using technology to conduct the teaching and learning process in the classroom. The research design in this study was a quantitative method, with giving questionnaires to 107 lecturers in Tangerang City campuses. Data collection technique was taken by conducting observation, questionnaires and interview and data analysis. The result of this study research showed that there are 5 categories of lecturers' attitudes towards advance technology based on their knowledge, ages and gender. And the purpose of the study research is to give an opportunity to increase lecturers' qualifications for 21st century learning process and to leverage advance technology in campuses which it is to deliver contents and to engage students and lecturers learning process in ways not previously possible.

This study targeted to explore the effect of memory strategy on EFL learners' vocabulary retention with a consideration of learners' multiple intelligences. In this study, the memory strategy consisted of three parts of grouping, acronym and images. The participants of this study were 80 male and female EFL learners of intermediate level who underwent 12 hours of instruction in a language institute. They were chosen through convenience sampling and then they were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was directly taught how to implement memory strategies in learning vocabulary. A pre-test post-test control group design was carried out to collect the required data through vocabulary tests, memory strategy and multiple intelligence questionnaires. The results showed that the experimental group's vocabulary retention statistically improved. Moreover, the relationship between MI and vocabulary retention of Iranian EFL learners was reported statistically significant. This positive relationship was particularly reported between existential MI, linguistic MI scores and spatial MI scores and vocabulary scores. The finding provided information on how to teach English vocabulary in EFL classes and also recommended that teachers exploit MI in the teaching processes. It also suggests that educators, learners, policy makers, material producers, and syllabus designers move from traditional-based approaches to more innovative ways of teaching vocabulary.

The empirical study on 610 undergraduate students between the age of 16 to 25 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, was set to examine the relationship of gender and subject choice. The findings have revealed that women were overrepresented in non-science subjects and their gender identity has strong connection with subject choice (*** p < 0.001). The study gave an insight of how gender disparity in science due to factors such as strong gender socialization, social practice, science identity, curriculum, and challenges in science career. However, the new findings, based on regression model, rejected the economic status as a challenges to science subject selection.

This study set out with the aim of assessing whether Multiple Intelligences profiles of Iranian students would exert any influence on their use of language learning strategies as important determining factors in the language learning. Additionally, we explored the role of gender and different proficiency levels on EFL learners' multiple intelligences. A total number of 303 EFL learners, 164 males and 139 females participated in this study, 112 were Elementary, 92 were Intermediate students and 99 were advanced level, within the age range of 12 to 33 at Jahade Daneshgahi of Tabriz. The instruments used to elicit information for this study were MIDAS and the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) Questionnaire. Initially, we homogenized the English proficiency of the participants, by administering "Nelson" English Language Tests. Results showed a significant relationship between the variables of multiple intelligences (MI) and Strategy Inventory of Language Learning (SIL). Results of multivariate tests showed a significant positive difference between the MI scores and different proficiency levels but no significant difference in MI scores across genders. a significant difference was found in musical intelligence of participants at different proficiency levels. In terms of implications of the study it is suggested that before choosing any teaching materials, educators should conduct needs analysis and test in order to find out the MI profile of the students and to avoid having any mismatch between selected topics and the students' needs.

This study investigated the relationship among Information Communication Technology utilization, self-regulated learning and academic performance of prospective teachers. The ex-post facto design (correlation method) was employed for the study. The research subjects were 580 prospective teachers who were drawn using multi-stage sampling technique from University of Ilorin, Nigeria. Seven research questions were generated while four hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. A researcher-constructed questionnaire tagged "Information Communication Technology Utilization and Self-Regulated Learning Questionnaire (ICTUSRLQ)" was used for data collection. The instrument was administered on 60 selected prospective teachers outside the sample location through test-retest method; it yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.79 that was obtained through the Cronbach's Alpha formula. Data were analysed with percentage, mean and rank order, t-test, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression statistical tools. The findings revealed that prospective teachers have a high level of ICT utilization, self-regulation and academic performance; gender did not influence prospective teachers' ICT utilization, self-regulation and academic performance; there was a significant relationship between Information Communication Technology utilization and self-regulated learning and that there was a significant composite relationship among ICT utilization, self-regulation (elaboration, organization, critical thinking, metacognition, peer learning and help seeking) and academic performance of prospective teachers. The researchers recommended that self-regulation training and ICT competence capacity building workshops should be organized for prospective teachers in University of Ilorin.
