Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia and associated with complications, dysfunctions and insufficiency of various organs, especially eyes, kidneys, nerves, brain, heart and blood vessels. The objective of this study was to describe the current adherence to self-care practices of patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2), attended by a Basic Health Unit (UBS) in Caxias-MA. This is a descriptive and open intervention study, with a quantitative approach. Patients diagnosed with DM2, users of the UBS who volunteered to participate in the study were included. 14 meetings were held at UBS. It was possible to interview 60 diabetic patients, among them, 42 (70%) female and 18 (30%) male, with a predominance in the age group of 51 to 70 years old and average of 57 years old. It was possible to realize that the diabetic individual needs to acquire more knowledge about their disease, including characteristics, complications, eating habits and the aggravating and modifiable risk factors, thus creating a greater possibility of intervention. Therefore, this project also collaborated with the construction of the profile of the specific quality of life of diabetic patients treated by the Unified Health System (SUS), as well as making it possible to know the factors related to inadequate therapeutic adherence that are related to discontinuity. assistance.
