This research aimed to assess the stress distribution in lower premolars that were obturated with BioRoot RCS or AH Plus, with or without gutta percha (GP), and subjected to vertical and oblique forces. One 3D geometric model of a mandibular second premolar was created using SolidWorks software. Eight different scenarios representing different root canal filling techniques, single cone technique with GP and bulk technique with sealer only with occlusal load directions were simulated as follows: Model 1 (BioRoot RCS sealer and GP under vertical load [VL]), Model 2 (BioRoot RCS sealer and GP under oblique load [OL]), Model 3 (AH Plus sealer with GP under VL), Model 4 (AH Plus sealer with GP under OL), Model 5 (BioRoot RCS sealer in bulk under VL), Model 6 (BioRoot RCS in bulk under OL), Model 7 (AH Plus sealer in bulk under VL), and Model 8 (AH Plus sealer in bulk under OL). A static load of 200 N was applied at three occlusal contact points, with a 45° angle from lingual to buccal. The von Mises stresses in root dentin were higher in cases where AH Plus was used compared to BioRoot RCS. Furthermore, shifting the load to an oblique direction resulted in increased stress levels. Replacing GP with sealer material had no effect on the dentin maximum von Mises stress in BioRoot RCS cases. Presence of a core material resulted in lower stress in dentin for AH Plus cases, however, it did not affect the stress levels in dentin for cases filled with BioRoot RCS. In this paper, a new optimization design strategy is explored to achieve a rapid design of lightweight structures for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using honeycomb sandwich panels. Based on the existing performance equivalent method of honeycomb core material, an effective mechanical property homogenization model of honeycomb material is proposed and applied to finite element analysis. A finite element model is established to analyze the mechanical response of honeycomb sandwich panels under different bending loads, and the rationality of the model is verified by mechanical tests. The error between the simulation results and the experimental results is about 10%. Based on the variable density method and rational approximation of material properties interpolation method, a topology optimization model with the minimum structural flexibility as the objective is constructed. By comparing with the experiment-based design scheme, it is found that the optimized design scheme has a more reasonable structure and better performance. The optimized design can effectively reduce the structural weight and improve the load transfer path while ensuring structural stiffness. In this way, the influence of stress concentration and large deformation on the structure is avoided, which is of great significance for the design of UAV structures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Prestressed fit is a new type of composite and metal connection. Compared with the traditional connection, it has the advantages of maintaining fiber continuity, high controllability, and high stability. According to the analytical model, the important parameters of the prestressed joint such as friction coefficient, lap length and winding tension are proposed. The influence of the parameters on the joint performance and stress distribution is studied by the finite element method. The abnormal end phenomenon, the stress relaxation phenomenon, and the stress mutation phenomenon caused by demolding during the joint forming process are explained, and the design of the layering method is optimized. The results show that the end effect makes the relationship between the lap length and the peak torque of the joint nonlinear, and increasing the lap length is beneficial to reduce this effect; before and after demolding, the end stress increases sharply; reducing the winding tension and selecting high modulus core mold materials are conducive to reducing stress relaxation; 90°inner ply angle and ± 45°outer ply angle are ideal layup methods for joint composite materials. Aim: This study aimed the description of a protocol to acquire a 3D finite element (FE) model of a human maxillary central incisor tooth restored with ceramic crowns with enhanced geometric detail through an easy-to-use and low-cost concept and validate it through finite element analysis (FEA). Methods: A human maxillary central incisor was digitalized using a Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) scanner. The resulted tooth CBCT DICOM files were imported into a free medical imaging software (Invesalius) for 3D surface/geometric reconstruction in stereolithographic file format (STL). The STL file was exported to a computer-aided-design (CAD) software (SolidWorks), converted into a 3D solid model and edited to simulate different materials for full crown restorations. The obtained model was exported into a FEA software to evaluate the influence of different core materials (zirconia - Zr, lithium disilicate - Ds or palladium/silver - Ps) on the mechanical behavior of the restorations under a 100 N applied to the palatal surface at 135 degrees to the long axis of the tooth, followed by a load of 25.5 N perpendicular to the incisal edge of the crown. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of maximum principal stress (ceramic veneer) and maximum principal strain (core) were obtained. Results: The Zr model presented lower stress and strain concentration in the ceramic veneer and core than Ds and Ps models. For all models, the stresses were concentrated in the external surface of the veneering ceramic and strains in the internal surface of core, both near to the loading area. Conclusion: The described procedure is a quick, inexpensive and feasible protocol to obtain a highly detailed 3D FE model, and thus could be considered for future 3D FE analysis. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the stress distribution in models of maxillary central incisors restored with different post and core systems. Materials and Methods: A finite-element model of a maxillary central incisor was simulated in four different configurations - model 1: an intact tooth, Model 2: received gold cast metallic post and core, Model 3: received a fiberglass post and core, and Model 4: had a fiberglass post and the composite resin core. The restored tooth models were assumed to receive a ceramic crown simulating a clinical situation. After the preparation, the geometric models were exported in mesh to the analysis software (ANSYS 10.0, ANSYS Inc., Houston, USA). A 100 N static force at a 130° angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the tooth was applied to the palatine surface of the model along equally distributed on the element nodes. The values and stress distribution were analyzed. Results: The stress distribution in the radicular structure of the models restored with three different post and core systems was like each other, but the gold cast metallic post and core system slightly improved the pattern of the stress distribution. Conclusions: The placement of post changes the stress distribution behavior, and the material with the highest elastic modulus showed the best performance in the stress distribution. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the stress distribution of different post and core materials in radicular dentin by three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA). Materials and Methods: Twelve 3D models of a maxillary central incisor were simulated in the ANSYS 5.4 software program. The models were divided into three groups; the first group included: 1-Gold post and core and 2-Nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr) post and core restored with metal-ceramic restorations (MCRs). The second group included: 1-Stainless steel post, 2-Titanium post, 3-Carbon fiber post, 4-Glass fiber post, and 5-Quartz fiber post with composite cores and MCRs. The third group included: 1-Zirconia post and core, 2-Zirconia post, 3-Carbon fiber post, 4-Glass fiber post, and 5-Quartz fiber post; the last four models had composite cores restored with all-ceramic restorations (ACRs). Each specimen was subjected to a compressive load at a 45-degree angle relative to its longitudinal axis at a constant intensity of 100 N. The models were analyzed with regard to the stress distribution in dentin. Results: Two stress concentration sites were detected in the models. The first group showed the lowest stress levels in the cervical region, while the stress levels detected in the second group were higher than those in the first group and lower than those found in the third group. Fiber-reinforced posts induced a higher stress concentration between the middle and cervical thirds of the root compared to other posts. Conclusions: According to the results, since cast posts induce lower stresses in dentin, they are recommended for clinical use. Fiber-reinforced posts and ACRs caused the maximum stresses in dentin. In a crown system, core fracture requires replacement of the restoration. Understanding maximum principal stress concentration in the veneered core of a tooth-crown system as a function of variations in clinically relevant parameters is crucial in the rational design of crown systems. This study evaluated the main and interacting effects of a set of clinical variables on the maximum principal stress (MPS) in the core of an anatomically correct veneer-core-cement-tooth model. A 3D CAD model of a mandibular first molar crown was generated; tooth preparation was modeled by reducing the proximal walls by 1.5 mm and the occiusal surface by 2.0 mm. A cemented veneered core crown was modeled on the preparation. This "crown system" permitted finite element model investigation of the main and interacting effects of proximal wall height reduction, core material, core thickness, cement modulus, cement thickness, and load position on the maximum stress distribution in a factorial design. Analysis of variance was used to identify the main and interacting influences on the level of MPS in the crown core. Statistical sign,ficance was set at p <0.05. MPS levels varied as a function of two-way interactions between the following: core thickness and load position; cement thickness and load position; cement modulus and load position; cement thickness and core thickness; and cement thickness and cement modulus; and also three-way interactions among the load position, core material, and proximal wall height reduction, and among the core thickness, cement thickness, and cement modulus. MPS in the crown-tooth system is influenced by the design parameters and also by the interaction among them. Hence, while the geometry of molar crowns is complex, these analyses identify the factors that influence MPS and suggest levels that will minimize the core MPS in future studies of crown design. A new Delaunay refinement algorithm is developed for free mesh generation inside both convex and non-convex hulls for integrating core materials within the cavities of composite rotor blade cross-sections. After defining the geometry and material properties of the cross-section, meshes are generated for finite element analysis. Finite element analysis is considered for computing sectional properties and stress distributions over the cross-section It is found that this free mesh generation algorithm can produce fine meshes for computing convergent sectional properties of composite rotor blade cross-sections with core materials. Summary: Objectives: All ceramic restorations without metal have great advantages in their biocompatibility and aesthetic aspects. With the introduction of new core materials, the cores are sufficiently strong to produce long lasting all-ceramic restorations; however, the stresses in the veneering porcelain could still determine the longevity. The objective of this study was to evaluate, by finite element analysis (FEA), the influence of different core materials on the stress distribution in dental crowns. Methods: The model of a multi-layer all-ceramic crown for posterior tooth 46 produced with CAD–CAM-technology was translated into a three-dimensional FEA program. This crown model was made with gold, zirconia, and alumina-based porcelain core and their matching veneering porcelains. The stress distribution due to the combined influences of bite forces, residual stresses caused by the difference in expansion coefficient of the core material and the veneering porcelain, and the influence of shrinkage of the cement was investigated. Results: Stiffer core material does not always for various reasons result in lower stresses in the veneering porcelain. Significance: This study indicates that the actual distribution of the tensile stresses and the design of restorations must be taken into account; otherwise, the significant contribution of stronger and tougher core materials to the performance of all-ceramic restorations may be offset by the weaker veneering porcelain.
