Assurance on sustainability reports is a new concept in Romania and this paper aims to enlarge the vision upon the benefits which can be obtained through involving financial auditors in providing assurance services on non-financial reports issued by companies. Current developments related to non-financial reporting in the European Union indicate that more and more EU-based companies will soon be confronted with more detailed requirements related to sustainability reporting and stricter audit requirements, such as the mandatory assurance of non-financial reports. Our paper explains and illustrates from a practical perspective the audit procedures performed and the content of assurance reports issued by financial auditors upon auditing non-financial reports. In the case of entities with a significant inventory/stocks turnover, the implementation of internal audit function must be a concern of both management and shareholders, in order to prevent and detect the risk of embezzlement of these assets. This procedure must provide assurance that the inventoried stocks are correct and in a proper condition to be used according to their nature in the entity's activity. It is necessary for the entity to implement its own appropriate policies and procedures regarding these categories of assets' management and administration due to the fact that these assets present a very high risk of fraud and, in most cases, this can be provoked even by entity's employees. Investors use information presented in integrated reports to assess the manner in which companies create value in the context of corporate social responsibility and their decisions are marked by the truthfulness and quality of information provided by companies. Consequently, financial auditors have the role to provide assurance and credibility not only on the financial information presented within the financial statements, but also on the non-financial information published by companies. Based on the knowledge they gain on the audited client, the auditors are qualified to evaluate the link between the way the business strategy is carried out, corporate performance sand the impact of nonfinancial information upon sustainable development and also the deriving consequences from the corporate social responsibility point of view. In this article we want to present the importance of the informational system in inventory management. Due to the fact that inventories represent a significant part of the entity's assets, they have a great influence on the results of activities carried out by economic entities, but also on the value of balance sheet assets, since they participate in the continuous development of the activity. Information systems simplify work, reduce the likelihood of errors in decision making and increase efficiency. The interest of our research is theoretical, by defining the notions regarding stocks and the informational system, and methodological, by the research methodology used during the research, i.e. by the research stage. Fixed assets represent an important category in the patrimonial structure of any entity, because they have a complex structure and they materialize in items with significant values. As regards the analysis of this group, we can observe the existence of a significant volume of empirical studies regarding the usefulness of the accounting information related to the tangible assets for different categories of potential users of the annual financial statements (among which managers and investors are distinguished with priority). This shows that the place occupied by these assets in the patrimony of the entity is of significant importance. Diverse categories are individually recognized in the accounts as follows: land, landscaping, construction, real estate investments, productive biological assets, tangible assets for the exploration and evaluation of mineral resources. According to the professional reasoning, it is necessary that each item to be registered separately, as a good individual, whether it was purchased in a transaction involving a mix of elements. In the present paper we have tried to reveal the way in which we can obtain fiscal and accountant information on a juridical person, information about the persons who have special relations with the entity: associates,administrators and shareholders. For a complete fiscal control, we need other types of information regarding the address of the social residence and the declared working branches/sub offices , the financial position and the performance or nonperformance of the entity: total assets, fixed assets, mobile assets, stocks,debts, owned capital, social capital and its structure, business figure, total income, total expenses. We have structured the access to such information on three categories, according to the level of access hold by the person who is interested in getting such information. For example: • public information about juridical persons and the physical persons who are shareholders, associates or administrators for the juridical person; any interested person can access such information; • information that can be found in the database of different public institutions, banks, service providers; such information can be accessed only by authorised persons; • information that can be found in the accountacy of the juridical person lying under investigation ; such information can be accessed by the control organs of the Public Finance Ministry or other control organs according to the competence offered to them by laws of organisation and wellfunctioning. We consider that it is extremely useful to combine the information got from different external sources (such as the ones mentioned in the first two cases) and the information we receive from an internal source as the one mentioned at the third point. In our country, internal audit is a new concept, practiced on a microeconomic level. Originally, "to audit" could have been translated as "to check the financial statements of a company". The purpose of a statutory audit is to determine whether the organization provides a fair and specific image of its financial status, by examining information such as accounting records, bank balance, and financial operations. For a piece of accounting information to be relevant to auditors, investors, it has to support users form forecasts on the outcome of past, present and future events, be always understood or confirm and correct the trust bestowed. In the equation "accounting information - users' decisions", defining the concept of quality represents the main concern of the accounting normalization bodies, as referees who make the rules of the accounting "social game" between producers and users of accounting information. The literature in the field devotes to the Anglo-Saxon conceptual frameworks the primacy in defining the quality features of accounting information which it ranks depending on relevance into two groups: - one specific to the accounting information (relevance, reliability and comparability); - the other specific to the user (clearness). The quality of information is characterized by speed, frequency, accessibility, timeliness, understandability, reliability, relevance and age.
