The article analyzes how mutual guarantee societies can reduce the financial cost for SMEs in Spain. These societies act as intermediaries between SMEs and financial institutions, providing guarantees that improve access to financing for companies. The operation of a mutual guarantee society is based on the principle of mutuality, where several companies come together and contribute capital to establish a collective guarantee. Mutual guarantee societies offer advantages such as better financing conditions, access to financing for companies with fewer guarantees, advice and support, strengthening of negotiation capacity, fostering trust, streamlining approval processes, and diversification of financing sources. Some notable mutual guarantee societies in Spain are Elkargui SGR, Iberaval, Avalmadrid, Avalis de Catalunya, Garántia SGR, Sonagar SGR, and ISBA SGR. [Extracted from the article]
