Because of intensive farming, the INM system is now essential, due to the high cost of chemical fertilizers, unbalanced NPK use and deterioration of soil health and to minimize health hazards. The present experiment has been planned at Lucknow subtropical area with a sandy loam less fertile soil with higher pH of around 8.2. It has 10 treatments (Control 100% RDF, 100% FYM, 100% PSB, 75% NPK + 25% FYM, 50% NPK + 50% FYM, 25% NPK + 75% FYM, 75% NPK + 25% PSB, 50% NPK + 50% PSB, 25% NPK + 75% PSB) laid out at RBD with three replication. Seeds of onion variety Agrifound Light Red were treated with 0.02% thiram to check the infection of damping off and seedlings were transplanted after seven weeks at 20 cm × 10 cm spacing on 1m × 1m plot accommodating 45 plants in a plot. The results revealed that among the various treatments, the application of 75% RDF + 25% FYM showed better vegetative growth, bulb yield, and improved bulb physico-chemical quality. This article examines the impact of different nutrient management strategies on the growth, yield, and quality of fodder oats. The study found that using a combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers significantly increased the nitrogen, phosphorus, and zinc content and uptake in the oats. The treatment with 75% recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) + farmyard manure (FYM) at 10.0 t/ha + phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) + zinc sulfate (ZnSO4) at 12.5 kg/ha resulted in the highest crude protein content. However, the treatments had a negative effect on crude fiber content. Overall, the study concluded that the 75% RDF + FYM at 10.0 t/ha + PSB + ZnSO4 at 12.5 kg/ha treatment led to significantly higher nutrient content, crude protein content, and crude fiber yield in oat fodder. Integrated nutrient management (INM) practice with farmyard manure (FYM), wheat straw (WS) and green leaf manuring (GLM) augments aggregate formation in soils. However, soil aggregation regulating several soils biological activities has been proven to be intricate with both positive and negative interactions across studies. We studied the distribution of soil organic carbon (SOC), microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and soil enzymes across three aggregate classes (>2000 µm, 2000–250 µm and <250 µm) from a long-term rice-wheat cropping system. Integrated nutrient management practices significantly influence the fraction of soil macro-aggregates; whereas suboptimal level of fertilization was dominated by micro-aggregates. Application of inorganic fertilizer with FYM over long-term improves SOC to the tune of 12.78% when compared with 100% recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF); whereas WS as an amendment improves MBC to the tune of 51.80% over RDF. Activities of the studied soil enzymes (Acid phosphatase, Alkaline phosphatase, Dehydrogenase, Fluorescein Diacetate Hydrolysing Capacity and Urease) were found to be higher when associated with large macro-aggregates fraction of size >2000 µm as compared to micro-aggregates. The eight treatments comprised of a control, sole use of organics and chemical fertilizers, and integration of organics with chemical fertilizers to partially substitute Nitrogen (N). The results after 35th cycle revealed that the uptake of N, Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K) was significantly higher in Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) treatments, particularly the treatments T6 and T7 where 50 percent N was substituted by either gliricidia or Farm Yard Manure (FYM). Further, the various parameters of nutrient use efficiency of N, P, and K were also found to be significantly higher in INM treatments followed by T2 (100% RDF). Therefore, the present investigation concludes that under the cotton + green gram intercropping system in Vertisols, INM that involves conjoint use of different nutrient sources appears to be a promising strategy for improvement in fertilizer use efficiency as a whole including Nutrient Use Efficiency (NUE). Background: In this study, the impact of integrated nutrient management practice in cereal based cropping sequence has been examined. A detail study about the impact of INM in the above cropping system for last 8 years has been carried out. Methods: On-station research experiments were conducted at Karjat centre of district Raigad of Maharashtra, under the ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram, Meerut of ICAR-All India Co-ordinated Research Project during the years 2010- 11 to 2017-18 on integrated nutrient supply (INM) system in rice-rice (Oryza sativa L.) cropping system at Karjat. Result: 100% recommended NPK dose through fertilizers was identified as the best INM practice at Karjat during kharif season. Tasar silk production is highly associated to natural ecosystem. Deterioration of natural ecosystem can directly affect the quality and production of tasar silk. Since regular use of chemical fertilizers reduce the fertility and total microbial biomass thus affecting soil health and productivity in tasar ecosystem. Hence, a field experiment was conducted at Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Ranchi with an aim of improving the soil nutritional status using INM practices. The experiment was comprised 20 treatments including control which laid down in randomised block design with three replications. The soil samples were collected from each plot and analysed for different parameters. The study revealed that the pH of different experiment plots was acidic range (5.42 to 5.99). SOC was found to be higher in the treatment of 75% RDF with 25% VC + Azotobacter + PSB (1.33%) followed by 100%RDF with 2 kg/plant VC + Azotobacter + PSB (1.31%). The treatment T19 (495.5 kg ha-1) had recorded higher available nitrogen followed by T17 and lower in control. In case, the available phosphorus was found to be the ranges from medium to high (12.93 to 38.33 kg ha-1) in different treatments. In the present investigation, available potassium was observed in the range of 213.3 kg ha-1 to 513.3 kg ha-1 which resulted in medium to high range. All the micronutrients (Cu, Zn, Mn and Fe) in the experiment were found to be sufficient amount. Overall, the treatment that integrated chemical fertilizers with organic manure and bio fertilizers showed greater response to increase in soil nutrients content. Nutrient use efficiency (NUE) is an important concept in the evaluation of crop production systems. With emerging nutrient deficiencies under intensive agriculture, there is a need to improve NUE. One of the approaches to enhance it is by judicious use of fertilizers (adequate rate, effective source, methods and time of application) as well as inclusion of organic manures. Organic nutrient sources are very effective but as their availability is not sufficient to meet the nutrient demand, we have to integrate both organic and inorganic sources of nutrients together in order to achieve higher NUE. Common measures of NUE include Partial Factor Productivity (PFP), Agronomic Efficiency (AE), Apparent Recovery Efficiency (RE), Physiological Efficiency (PE) and Internal Utilization Efficiency (IE). The present investigation was conducted to study the influence of integrated nutrient management on fertility build up in a Typic Haplaquept soil as well as its effect on yield and quality parameters of rapeseed ( Brassica campestris L. var. yellow sarson). Treatments comprised of recommended doses of N, P and K fertilizers (RDF) in presence and absence of FYM along with different doses of S and Zn either alone or in combination. Results revealed that in general, available N, P, K, S and Zn in soil decreased with increase in the period of crop growth. Addition of FYM increased organic carbon content in soils (upto 104.98 g kg-1increase over initial value). Application of elemental S and Zn-EDTA increased SO4-2 content (upto 101.03 kg ha-1 increase over initial value) in S-treated and DTPA extractable Zn content (upto 0.3 mg kg-1 increase over initial value) in Zn-treated systems respectively. Combined application of higher doses of S and Zn along with FYM and recommended doses of N, P and K fertilizers increased N, P, K, S and Zn uptake by rapeseed crop. Highest seed yield (14.2 q ha-1) as well as oil (43.2 %) and protein contents (21.82 %) were recorded in rapeseed which received comparatively higher doses of S and Zn along with FYM and RDF. An experiment was conducted at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (MPKV), Rahuri a representative place for the vertisols of Deccan plateau of India to study the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on crop yield and soil physical, chemical and biological properties in the cotton-chickpea cropping sequence. There were seven treatments applied to hybrid cotton and each plot of summer cotton was equally divided into four parts to chickpea. Application of Recommended Dose of Fertilizer (RDF) according to Soil Test Crop Response (STCR) equation recorded significantly higher seed cotton yield and cotton equivalent yield, however it was at par with 10 t Farm Yard Manure (FYM) ha-1 + RDF. Chickpea registered significantly higher seed yield in 10 t FYM ha-1 + RDF and it was at par with 100% RDN through vermicompost. 100% RDF registered significantly superior seed chickpea seed yield and cotton equivalent yield. A field experiment was undertaken to study the nutrient uptake in pearl milletwheat cropping system influenced by various fertilizer levels applied through organic and inorganic sources. The investigation was carried out at CCS Haryana Agricutural University, Hisar consisting of 12 treatments laid out in randomized block design during 2009-10. A field experiment was conducted on direct and residual effect of integrated nutrient management on crop productivity and physicochemical characteristics of allfisols in okra-pea cropping system in Kashmir valley. The okra was grown as main crop and pea as residual crop. The experiment was laid out in simple square lattice design having 25 treatments with two replications. The pooled data revealed that integrated nutrient management significantly influenced the productivity of main as well as residual crop, physico-chemical properties and microbial activity of experimental soil. Among various treatments under study, treatment T24 (FYM, sheep manure, poultry manure and vermicompost (3, 2, 0.5, 0.6 tonnes ha-1, respectively) along with biofertilizers (Azospirillum and Phosphobacteria; both as seed inoculant @ 1.0 kg ha-1 and as soil inoculant @ 2.5 kg ha-1) and 50 % recommended dose (RDF) of fertilizers (N:P2O5: K2O, 60:30:30 kg ha-1, respectively) resulted significantly maximum fruit yield of okra (272.71 q ha-1) and pod yield of pea (123.56 q ha-1). The physico-chemical characteristics of the soil under study showed an improvement with organics application as compared to initial, control and RFD. Soil under the treatment T24 showed lowest bulk density, particle density and pH; and highest porosity, EC, and organic carbon content. The experiment was conducted during kharif 2011 in sandy clay loam soil at Zonal Agricultural Research Station, UAS, GKVK campus, Bengaluru, Karnataka to study yield attributes, nutrient uptake and yield of maize (Zea mays L.) hybrid NAH 1137 (Hema) and economics of maize cultivation as influenced by nutrient management through various fertilization approaches. The investigation consisted SSNM through fertilizers for targeted yield of 8 and 10 t ha-1, SSNM through INM for targeted yield of 8 and 10 t ha-1, STCR through fertilizers for targeted yield of 8 and 10 t ha-1, STCR through INM for targeted yield of 8 and 10 t ha-1. These eight treatments were compared with 100 per cent RDF and100 per cent RDF + FYM @ 10 t ha-1, and were replicated thrice. Among the treatments, SSNM through fertilizers for targeted yield of 10 t ha-1 recorded higher dry matter production (501.4 g), cob length (20.3 cm), number of grain rows cob-1 (20.5), number of grains row-1 (41.3), number of grains plant-1 (891.2) test weight (32.9 g) and significantly higher grain yield (9.77 t ha-1) as compared to other treatments. Whereas, significantly lower cob length (16.5 cm) number of grain rows cob-1 (13.6), number of grains row-1 (31.4), number of grains plant-1 (426.7) test weight (21.4 g), Grain yield (4.04 t ha-1) were recorded in the treatment with the application of 100 % RDF. Significantly higher nutrient uptake (504.8, 103.1 and 212.3 N, P and K kg ha-1) was recorded in SSNM through fertilizers for targeted yield of 10 t ha-1 over 100 % RDF (219.4, 32.2 and 73; N, P and K kg ha-1) and economics. Long term experiment (1988-2008) was carried out at Agricultural Research Station, Kathalagere, Karnataka to study the effect of integrated nutrient management on soil fertility status and productivity of rice-maize cropping sequence. The soil samples were collected after the harvest of summer maize crop in 2007-08 and analysed for pH, EC, organic carbon, available phosphorus and potassium status. The organic sources of nutrients in combination with inorganic fertilizers has showed improvement in organic carbon content from 0.68 per cent to 0.73 per cent, available phosphorus from 12.3 kg/ha to 22.01 kg/ha and maintained available potassium content. In general there was decrease in available potassium content among all the treatments due to crop removal as a result of continuous cropping. Significant increase in rice yield were noticed in treatments with paddy straw as source of nitrogen (25 to 50 %). Higher maize yield was observed in treatments with both organic and inorganic fertilizers in kharif followed by 100 per cent NPK in summer season, thus showing the beneficial effect of organic sources of nutrients on the succeeding crop and also improving the soil fertility levels. A five-year (2001/02-2006/07) field experiment was carried out on acidic clay loam soil classified as Typic Hapludalf with a maize-mustard crop sequence to study the effect of continuous application of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) fertilizers alone and in combination with lime, farmyard manure (FYM), and biofertilizers on soil physical properties, soil organic carbon (SOC), soil microbial biomass carbon (SMBC), and crop yields on the hilly ecosystem of Meghalaya. Significant improvement in the soil physical conditions of the soil was observed under integrated application of organic manure and inorganic fertilizers. Addition of NPK fertilizers along with organic manure, lime, and biofertilizers increased soil organic carbon (SOC) content, aggregate stability, moisture-retention capacity, and infiltration rate of the soil while reducing bulk density. The SOC content under the treatment of 100% NPK + lime + biofertilizer + FYM was significantly greater (68.58%) than in control plots. Maize and mustard crop yields also significantly increased (4.73- and 21.09-folds, respectively) with continuous application of balanced inorganic (100% NPK) + lime + biofertilizer + FYM as compared to the control plots. However, crop yields drastically reduced under application of integrated nutrients without FYM as compared to the treatment with FYM application. Thus, the results suggest that integrated use of a balanced inorganic fertilizer in combination with lime and organic manure sustains a soil physical environment that is better for achieving higher crop productivity under intensive cropping systems in the hilly ecosystem of northeastern India. Studies on effect of INM (Integrated Nutrent Management) on nodulation, dry matter accumulation and yield of summer groundnut crop conducted during summer 2001-2002 at Navsari . The aim was to evaluate the change in nodulation, dry matter production responsible for difference in yield potential affected due to chemical fertilizer, organic manure and bio fertilizer. There was a linear increase in dry matter production from germination till harvest, whereas in case of nodulation linear increase in root nodule number up to 90 DAS and there after decrease root nodule number. It was observed that nodule number, dry matter plant-1 , pod and haulm yield of groundnut crop increased with application of 100 % RDF (25:50 N and P kg ha-1, 10 t FYM ha-1 and rhizobium or PSB seed inoculation).
