Background: Evaluation of the fallopian tubes are important for infertile patients. The two most important diagnostic procedures used to evaluate tubal patency are hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy. Objectives: To asses the hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy results of patients diagnosed with infertility and investigate the diagnostic value of hysterosalpingography in patients with tubal factor infertility. Methods: The hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy results of 208 patients who presented to the Obstetrics and Gyne- cology Clinic at Dicle University, Faculty of Medicine between January 2014- January 2018 were retrospectively evaluated. Hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy results were compared with regard to the investigation of the presence of tubal obstruction and of the pelvic structures that could cause tubal obstruction. The specificity, sensitivity, positive, and negative predictive values of hysterosalpingography were computed. Results: The number of patients evaluated was 208. The ratio of primary infertile patients was 57.2% and 42.8% was secondary infertile. Hysterosalpingography was found to have a specificity of 64.6%, the sensitivity of 81.3%, the positive predictive value of 56.4%, and a negative predictive value of 86% in the determination of tubal obstruction. Conclusion: Patients with suspected tubal infertility can primarily be examined using hysterosalpingography in considera- tion of the invasive nature and the higher complication rate of laparoscopy. Objectives: The most important step in laparoscopic surgery is to safely establish the pneumoperitoneum, especially since approximately half of the complications occur during the initial entry into the abdomen. There is a distinct need to modify the available methods to reduce therate of adverse events in laparoscopic entry. In this study, a modified Veress technique (MVT) or Evsen method is introduced.The aim of this article was to present a modified Veress technique for establishing the pneumoperitoneum. Material and methods: The study was conducted at the Dicle University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, from September 2016 to May 2017. A new laparoscopic entry technique was introduced and compared with the classical Veress technique. A total of 40 cases were included in the study. MVT and the classical Veress method were applied to 26 and 14 patients, respectively. Results: The pneumoperitoneum was established at the first attempt in 23 (88.5%) MVT patients and in 7 (50%) patients from the classical Veress method group. The number of insufflation attempts to establish a successful pneumoperitoneum was lower using MVT and the difference was statistically significant (p: 0.022). As far as time is concerned, a comparison between the groups revealed that the pneumoperitoneum was established in a statistically significantly shorter time using MVT (p < 0.00). Conclusions: The modified Veress technique proved to be superior to the classical Veress method for establishing the pneumoperitoneum. Using the new method, the pneumoperitoneum was established after fewer attempts and in a shorter time.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate data on early diagnosis and therapeutic management of rudimentary horn pregnancy (RHP). Material and methods: Patients diagnosed with RHP at a tertiary center between for two periods of 2008–2012 and 2013–2018 were analysed retrospectively. We obtained information of patients from hospital electronic archive registration system. Data on demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, gestational age at presentation, presenting symptoms, diagnostic methods, and therapeutic management were noted and analysed by descriptive statistical method. Demographic datas, the complaint of patient’s admission to hospital, history of cesarean section, preliminary diagnosis and intraoperative diagnosis were compared between periods of 2008–2012 and 2013–2018. Results: A total of 14 RHP patients were included. Eight (57.1%) of these patients were diagnosed between 2008–2012 (Group 1), whereas six patients (42.9%) were diagnosed between 2013–2018 (Group 2). Rudimentary horn was non-communicating in 13 patients (92.8%). Communicated form was observed in 1 patient in group 1. RHP was diagnosed on the left side in nine patients (64.2%). Six of these patients were observed in group 1 and 3 were in group 2. The pre-rupture diagnosis was made in 10 (71.4%) patients. Six (100%) of 10 patients were in group 2. In addition, in group 1, four patients (50%) experienced intraoperative RHP rupture. RHP was diagnosed before rupture in 2 (33.3%) patients in group 2. Conclusions: It is an indication of advanced ultrasonographic technology as well as increased carefulness on the physician side and raised alertness on the patient side that today both RHP and preoperative rupture of RHP are less frequent. Still, further awareness is required among physicians of the necessity of excision of a rudimentary horn that is detected at the time of C-section.

WOS:000610981400003 PMID: 33447992 Objective: To investigate the levels of anti-angiogenic factors, namely sFlt-1 and Netrin-4, in patients with preeclampsia (PE). Material and methods: Cord-blood (UC) sFlt-1 and Netrin-4 concentrations were measured in 30 patients with severe PE, 30 patients with PE and 30 control infants and their mothers (MS). Results: Maternal sFlt-1 levels were significantly higher in the severe PE and PE groups than in the control group. There were no statistical differences among the three groups in maternal and fetal Netrin-4 levels. But Netrin-4 levels were found to be the lowest in the control group and higher in the PE and severe PE groups. The correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between maternal sFlt-1 levels and maternal Netrin-4 levels (p = 0.012, and r = 0.263), maternal sFlt-1 levels and fetal sFlt-1 levels (p = 0.012, and r = 0.263). Conclusions: There was a positive correlation found between maternal sFlt-1 levels and maternal Netrin-4 levels. We are of the opinion that elevation in levels of Netrin-4 might be secondary to placental hypoxia occurring in PE. The present study led to the consideration of anti-angiogenic biomarkers (sFlt-1 and Netrin-4) on automated platforms for clinical use as an aid in establishing the diagnosis and prognosis of PE.

To identify whether red blood cell distribution width coefficient of variation (RDW-CV) and mean platelet volume (MPV) levels can predict clomiphene citrate resistance (CC-R) in infertile, anovulatory females with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).A total of 89 infertile patients who were admitted to a tertiary center diagnosed with non-obese PCOS were included in this study. The patients were divided into two groups: the first group comprised 53 non-obese patients with PCOS and CC-R, and the second group included 36 non-obese patients with PCOS and CC-S. RDW-CV, RDW-SD, and MPV values, along with routine whole blood count parameters were compared between the groups.RDW-CV values were found to be significantly higher in the patients with CC-R compared to those with CC-S (P0.05). The sensitivity, specificity, positive, and negative predictive values were found to be 69%, 58.1%, 34.5%, and 12.5%, respectively, at an RDW-CV level of 12.85. The odds ratio was calculated as 3.077 (95% CI 1.245-7.603) in terms of the cut-off point.We think that RDW-CV which is a marker of inflammation is a simple, cheap, and accessible marker for the prediction of CC resistance.

BACKGROUND This study aimed to examine the positive and negative predictive value in the diagnosis of premalignant and malignant lesions of cervical colposcopy, the sensitivity and specificity of smear, and to evaluate the correlation with histopathology of abnormal cytology and colposcopy. MATERIAL AND METHODS The criteria for inclusion of patients with unhealthy cervix in the study were: Erosion, Chronic cervicitis, and Healed lacerations, Hypertrophied cervix, bleeding on touch, suspicious growth/ulcer/polyp on the cervix, and abnormal discharges from the cervix. Women with frank carcinoma cervix, pregnant females, patients with bleeding per vaginum at the time of examination, and those who had used vaginal medications, vaginal contraceptives or douches in the last 48 h of examination were excluded from the study. Demographic analysis was performed for 450 patients who were admitted to the clinic. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive values of patients to identify cervical pathologies of smear and colposcopy were histopathologically calculated. The statistical software package SPSS 15.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) and Spearman's and Chi-Square tests were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS Sensitivity, specificity, PPD and NDP of smear were 0.57%, 0.76%, 0.26%, 0.92% respectively. Sensitivity, specificity, PPD and NDP of colposcopy were 0.92%, 0.67%, 0.52%, 0.96% respectively. A statistically significant correlation was found between abnormal cytology and histopathology, and abnormal colposcopy finding and histopathology. CONCLUSIONS Women with clinical diagnosis of unhealthy cervix should be evaluated by cytology to detect any premalignant or malignant lesions. It was concluded that Pap smear, colposcopy and histopathology should be collectively evaluated to evaluate cervical findings in low socio-economic regions.

The purpose of the present study is twofold: (a) to investigate the etiology of disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC) caused by obstetrical conditions and (b) to present parameters that can be used in predicting DIC-related mortality in obstetrical patients.Obstetrical patients who had a delivery at or were referred (after delivery) to Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of Dicle University between July 2006 and December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed in this study. Those patients diagnosed with DIC were included in the study.Fifty-six obstetrical patients carrying the diagnosis of DIC were included in this study. The overall mortality rate was 25% among these patients. More specifically, the mortality rate was 10.7% among patients with a DIC score ≤5 and 40.7% among those with a DIC score 5. Multiple logistic regression analysis resulted in the finding that international normalized ratio (INR) and urea were among those factors affecting mortality in obstetrical DIC [OR: 8.44 (CI: 1.9-36.8), OR: 1.05 (CI: 1.0-1.1), respectively].DIC is a syndrome that might be caused by obstetrical conditions. It is associated with high mortality and morbidity rates. In obstetrical DIC, urea is the most important factor affecting mortality. In addition, we are of the opinion that DIC score might guide mortality predictions as a determinant of prognosis.

Rats in all groups, except for those in a sham group, underwent bilateral ovariectomy under general anesthesia. The groups were as follows: sham group; control OVX group; group treated with estrogen (0.014 mg/kg 17-β E2); group treated with a combination of E2 and Prog (0.014mg/kg 17-β E2 plus 0.028 mg/kg drospirenone), and group treated with Gen (10 mg/kg/day). BACKGROUND We aimed to measure the levels of inflammatory markers and neopterin in obese and non-obese patients with PCOS by using 2 separate control groups with matching body mass index (BMI). MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 60 women of reproductive age with (n=30) and without (n=30) PCOS were included in this study. Based on their BMI, patients with PCOS were divided into 2 groups as obese (n=15) and non-obese (n=15) PCOS groups. In addition, 2 BMI-matched control groups were formed. Neopterin, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (N/L ratio), and vitamin B12 were assessed by complete blood count. RESULTS No significant difference was found between patients with PCOS and control subjects in neopterin, IL-6, TNF-α, and CRP levels. However, N/L ratio levels were significantly higher (p 0.045) and vitamin B12 levels were significantly lower (p 0.033) in patients with PCOS compared to control subjects. No statistically significant difference was found between obese and non-obese patients with PCOS and control subjects in neopterin, IL-6, TNF-α, and N/L ratio levels. However, CRP levels were significantly higher in obese patients with PCOS compared to obese control subjects (p 0.007). CONCLUSIONS It can be concluded that inflammatory activity is increased in patients with PCOS, can lead to an increased risk for atherosclerosis, and this increase is not caused by obesity but rather by the polycystic ovary syndrome itself. However, studies with larger sample sizes are needed in this area.

PMID:32083306 Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence, etiology and obstetric outcomes of rupture in unscarred uterine rupture and in those with a history of uterine rupture Material and methods: The hospital records of women who had delivered between May 2005 and May 2017 at a tertiary center were examined retrospectively. Data on patients with unscarred uterine rupture in pregnancy who had undergone fertility-preserving surgery were evaluated. Results: During the study period, 185,609 deliveries occurred. Of those, unscarred uterine rupture has occurred in 67 women. There were no ruptures reported in nulliparous women. The rupture was observed in the isthmic region in 60 (89.6%) patients and in the fundus in 7 (10.4%) patients. Thirty-eight (56.7%) patients had undergone a total or subtotal hysterectomy, and 29 (43.3%) patients had received primary repair. Ten patients had reconceived after the repair. Of these, eight patients who had a history of isthmic rupture, successfully delivered by elective C-section at 36-37 wk. of gestation, and two experienced recurrent rupture at 33 and 34 wk. of gestation, respectively. Both patients had a history of fundal rupture, and their inter-pregnancy interval was 9 and 11 mo., respectively. Conclusions: The incidence of rupture in unscarred pregnant uteri was found to be one per 2,770 deliveries. Owing to the high morbidity, regarding more than half of the cases with rupture eventuated in hysterectomy, clinicians should be prudent in induction of labour for multiparous women since it was the main cause of rupture in this series. Short inter-pregnancy intervals and history of fundal rupture may confer a risk for rupture recurrence. Those risk factors for recurrence should be validated in another studies.

BackgroundTo evaluate the protective effects of curcumin in experimental ischemia and ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury of rat ovaries.MethodsForty-eight female adult Wistar Albino rats were used. Objective: Etiology of premature preterm rupture of membranes (PPROM) is not yet completely known and chorioamnionitis is one of the most important complications of its. We aimed to evaluate whether prolidase, matrix metalloproteinases, oxidative-antioxidative status, and inflammation markers in vaginal washing fluid (VWF) were associated with etiology of PPROM and whether these markers could be used to predict chorioamnionitis in PPROM. Study Design: This prospective case control study enrolled fifty pregnant women with PPROM and 50 healthy pregnant women. The VWF samples were taken at the time of admission in the PPROM group and patients were followed for chorioamnionitis. Prolidase, matrix metalloproteinases, oxidative-antioxidative status, and inflammation markers in VWF were assayed. Results: VWF levels of prolidase, matrix metalloproteinases 1-13 (p< 0.001), oxidative stress parameters, total oxidative stress (TOS) (p < 0.001) and oxidative stress index (OSI) (p = 0.002), and hs-CRP (p = 0.045) were significantly higher in the PPROM group than in the controls. We aimed to measure the extent of oxidative stress experienced during labor by the neonates of pregnant women undergoing induced or spontaneous birth and to compare the effects of induced labor on fetal well-being.Sixty-four healthy pregnant women referring to the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Dicle University Medical Faculty between October 2010 and May 2011 were included in this comparative study. Pregnant women undergoing induced labor by oxytocin were group 1 and those without labor induction were group 2. Post-partum Apgar score was calculated at 1 and 5 min and measurements of weight and height of the neonates were carried out. After the fetal cord was clamped, 5 cmThe complete blood counts and biochemistry results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in regards to diseases between the two groups. Nitric oxide and asymmetrical dimethylarginine values of the two groups were not significantly different; however, there were statistically significant differences in the malondialdehyde, paraoxonase, total antioxidative status, and total oxidative status values of the two groups (respectively, P = 0.005, P = 0.006, P = 0.008, and P = 0.007).We observed that oxytocin-induced labor increases stress markers but does not affect Apgar scores. Oxidative stress in pregnant women may trigger antioxidative mechanisms. Prospective studies in larger cohorts are needed to better understand the impact of oxytocin-induced labor on pregnant women and neonates.

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effects of the increased number of caesarean deliveries (CDs) in cases of multiple repeat caesarean deliveries (MRCDs) on maternal and neonatal morbidity.MRCDs admitted to our hospital between January 2013 and September 2014 were analysed retrospectively. A total number of 1133 women were included in the study and were divided into 4 groups. Group 1: second CDs (n = 329); Group 2: third CDs (n = 225); Group 3: fourth CDs (n = 447); Group 4: fifth CDs (n = 132). The clinical, demographic, intraoperative and postoperative data of the patients were registered upon the review of patient files.The differences among the groups were found to be statistically significant in terms of mean maternal age, gravida, APGAR (Activity, Pulse, Grimace, Appearance, Respiration) scores, hospital stay and operation time. In addition, the difference was also statistically significant for severe adhesion, bladder injury and premature birth. No statistically significant difference was observed among the groups with respect to placenta previa, placenta accreta, caesarean hysterectomy, uterine scar rupture.According to our findings, MRCDs seem to increasing the maternal and neonatal morbidity even though they are not life-threatening.

The rats were divided into five groups as follows: sham (Group I), torsion (Group II), torsion + detorsion (Group III), torsion + detorsion + saline (Group IV), and torsion + detorsion + honokiol (Group V). Bilateral adnexa in all the rats except for those in the sham group were exposed to torsion for 3hours. The rats in Group IV were administered saline, whereas the rats in Group V were administered honokiol by intraperitoneal route 30minutes before detorsion. Tissue and plasma concentrations of malondialdehyde and nitric oxide were determined. Ovarian tissue was histologically evaluated. Introduction: H1N1 Influenza made a great impact a worldwide, as well as in Turkey, in 2009. Clinical experiences have shown that it had a more serious prognosis in pregnant women. In this report, we summarize the cases of 16 pregnant women with H1N1 Influenza. Methodology: The study included 16 pregnant women hospitalized in Dicle University Hospital with complaints of fever, sore throat, cough and myalgia between October and December 2009. The diagnosis of pandemic H1N1 Influenza was confirmed on nasopharyngeal specimens using real-time reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in all patients. Patients who had the same complaints but were not diagnosed as H1N1 Influenza were excluded. The epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic, and outcome features of the patients were recorded. Results: The median age of the patients was 27 years (range 18-41 years). The mean gestational age was 25.4 weeks (range 5-38 weeks). Two cases were twin pregnancy. Two cases had co-morbid diseases including asthma and anemia. The most frequent admission symptoms were fever in 13 cases (81%), cough in 12 cases (75%) and dyspnea in 6 cases (37,5%). Antiviral treatment (oseltamivir 75 mg p.o. bid) was applied in 15 cases. Four cases needed intensive care monitoring and two of them died (12.5%) because of severe respiratory insufficiency. Conclusion: Patients with late gestational age, the presence of co-morbid disease, and multiple pregnancy have poor prognosis. Immediate intervention with antiviral treatment is associated with reduced severity of the disease and duration of hospital stay.

This study investigated the severity of hirsutism and its correlation with serum total testosterone (tT) levels in 87 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and 85 healthy control subjects from the south-eastern region of Turkey. A wide range of variability exists in both hirsutism and modified Ferriman—Gallwey (mFG) scores. Similar mFG scores and serum tT levels were found compared with previous studies of general populations, but lower scores than those previously reported from Turkey. The incidence of hirsutism was lower in hyperandrogenic PCOS patients compared with non-hyperandrogenic PCOS patients. There was no correlation between serum tT levels and the rate of hirsutism in patients with PCOS. Heritability, testosterone receptor sensitivity, 5α reductase activity or environmental/socioeconomic factors may play a role in the development of clinical hirsutism. Larger scale studies are needed to clarify which other factors may be responsible and to confirm these results.

Introduction The aim of this study was to compare serum levels of leptin in women with unexplained infertility with fertile subjects. Material and method Serum leptin levels of 27 infertile and 30 fertile women on day 3 of the menstrual cycle were assessed and compared in this prospective age and body mass index (BMI) comparable controlled study. Results The mean age in the infertile group was 29.3 (range, 23–38), while this figure was 28.9 (range, 19–39) in the fertile group; the mean BMIs were 24.5 (range, 20.6–27.8) and 25.0 (range, 21.8–28.7), respectively. The mean serum leptin level was significantly higher in women with unexplained infertility compared with fertile subjects. Considering normal weight subjects, mean serum leptin levels were increased significantly in the unexplained infertile group compared with the fertile group (7.2 (range, 4.3–10.4) versus 3.5 (range, 1.9–6.2)ng/ml, respectively; p U -test). The significant increase in serum leptin levels was observed also in overweight patients (6.8 (range, 1.3–5.2) versus 3.3 (range, 4.2–8.9)ng/ml, respectively; p U -test). Conclusion A significant difference in serum leptin levels between unexplained infertile and fertile women suggests that this cytokine may be involved in pathophysiology of unexplained infertility.

Aim: The present study aimed to determine the levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoproteins (LDL), high-density lipoproteins (HDL), and vitamins B1 and B2 in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) patients, and to evaluate if these were involved in the pathophysiology of the disease. Methods: The prospective randomized study included 35 pregnant patients who were admitted to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Polyclinic, Faculty of Medicine at Dicle University and who were diagnosed with ICP (Group 1), and 40 healthy pregnant women who were admitted in the same period and who had no systemic diseases that might complicate the pregnancy during the pregnancy follow-up (Group 2). Serum lipid levels and vitamins B1 and B2 were determined and compared, and statistical comparisons of the groups were made. Results: There was no difference between the TG levels of the two groups (P=0.631). Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and vitamin B1 and B2 levels were higher in Group 1 than in Group 2 (P=0.001, P=0.001, P=0.001, P=0.001, and P=0.032, respectively). Conclusions: Increased levels of vitamins B1 and B2 may indicate a need for increased energy metabolism at the fetus. So we believe that new studies are required, which will be supported by the placental analyses of the pyruvate and lactate levels in maternal blood at delivery and fetal cord blood in order to develop a better understanding on the fetal effects of energy metabolism.

This study was undertaken in order to evaluate the effect of brucellosis in pregnancy. The serum agglutination test, Coombs and/or blood culture systems were used in the diagnosis of brucellosis. From July 2003 to September 2010, the clinical and delivery patterns of 40 healthy pregnant women were compared with 39 pregnant women who had brucellosis. There were no birth defects, anomalies or mortalities. We observed that brucellosis in pregnancy increases the incidence of preterm delivery ( P = 0.01) and low birth weight ( P = 0.001) from that seen in general deliveries. A cephtriaxone/rifampicin combination was found to be the most effective treatment in pregnant women infected with brucellosis ( P = 0.004). Brucellosis in pregnancy has no effect on the incidence of congenital malformations or stillbirths. Preterm delivery and low birth weight can be seen as pregnancy outcomes in brucellosis. Appropriate antimicrobial therapy of brucellosis in pregnancy will reduce morbidity and prevent complications.

Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of honokiol, a natural molecule that was shown to have antioxidant effects, in prevention of intra-abdominal adhesion formation in a rat model. Material and Method: This study was conducted on a total of 40 non-pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats, which were divided into 4 groups as follows: sham, control, saline, and honokiol groups. Both uterine horns of the rats in control, saline, and honokiol groups were exposed and a 2-cm segment of the anti-mesenteric surface of both uterine horns was traumatized by a scalpel. The saline group was administered 2 ml of saline/day intraperitoneally for 5 days after the operation. The honokiol group, on the other hand, was administered honokiol intraperitoneally at a dose of 1 mg/kg/day for 5 days after the operation. On postoperative day 14, 3 ml of intracardiac blood sample was taken from the rats for biochemical analyses, and the rats were sacrificed this way. Results: Adhesion and inflammation scores were significantly lower in the honokiol group compared with the saline and control groups (p < 0.008). Similarly, fibrosis score was significantly lower in the honokiol group compared with the saline group (p < 0.008). Conclusion: Honokiol was found to be effective in prevention of intra-abdominal adhesion formation in a rat model. However, larger studies are needed to shed light on the exact role of honokiol in intra-abdominal adhesion formation and to determine the molecular aspects of the promising results found in this study.

This study was designed to investigate whether the non-closure of the layers of the uterus during low transverse cesarean section would result in healing and have advantage on closure.Thirty pregnant ewes randomly divided into two groups. Each group included 15 ewes. Each ewe was anesthetized at para-vertebral region with the injection of 20 ml Prilocine 2%. Following left transverse abdominal incision, a transverse incision was made on the uterus and lambs were delivered. In the first group, uterine incision line was left open. In the second group, uterine incision line was sutured with no. 1 Chromic catgut by Schimiden technique. In both groups, all layers of abdominal wall except skin were sutured as en-bloc with Vicryl no. 2, by continuous suture technique. Skin was sutured with no. 00 silk interrupted sutures. The ewes were slaughtered four months after cesarean section. A coworker was asked to open the abdominal cavities, and score the intra-abdominal adhesions. Tissues taken from incision line of each uterus were fixed in 10% neutral buffered-formalin and were embedded in paraffin-block. Sections were cut and stained with hematoxylin-eosin. A pathologist, who knew nothing about the study, evaluated all sections, and reported the findings. Student's t test was used for comparison of mean ewe age, gestational age, and mean operation time of the two groups. Z test was used for comparing the ratio of the two groups by means of histopathological findings.No cervical dilatation and delivery of the placenta were seen during the four week follow up period. The average operating time was significantly less for the non-closure group (48.07 +/- 3.83 minutes) than for the closure group (62.53 +/- 6.57 minutes; p = 0.001). The ranges of myometrial necrosis (100% versus 13.3%; p = 0.001) and endometriosis (53.3% versus 00.0%; p = 0.001) were significantly higher for closure group than for non-closure group.It was found that non-closure layers of the uterus along low transverse cesarean incision proves to have no adverse effect on immediate and late postoperative period in ewes. Our data showed that non-closure of all layers of the uterus results in significantly less muscular necrosis and endometriosis than closure group. We suggest that lower uterine incision can be left unclosed or, at least, simple closure can be preferable instead of vigorous locking technique.

Objectives: To investigate whether mean platelet volumes and leukocyte counts are altered significantly in patients with tubal ectopic pregnancy (TEP). Materials and Methods: Retrospective analysis of mean platelet volumes and leukocyte counts of 138 TEP patients, diagnosed between 2005 and 2012, and the control group consisting of 72 pregnants was performed. Patients with TEP were further subdivided into 2 subgroups composed of 72 ruptured and 66 non-ruptured cases. Statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis and the Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: Mean platelet volume was found to be larger in patients with TEP (whether ruptured or non-ruptured) when compared to controls (p=0.007). However, no significant difference could be observed between the ruptured or non-ruptured cases (p=0.89). This study was conducted to test the hypothesis that non-closure of all layers of the uterus during low transverse cesarean section is not associated with increased intra-operative or immediate and late postoperative complication. Eleven pregnant dogs underwent cesarean section for the evaluation of non-closure and closure of all layers of the uterus on immediate or early and late postoperative complication and the effect of suture in tissue. Statistical analysis was performed using Student's t-test for continuous variables and analysis for qualitative variables. Significance was defined as P < 0.05. The ranges of wound infection, other morbidity, and mortality were similar between the groups. The average operating time was significantly less for the non-closure group (71.00 +/- 7.11 min) than for the closure group (92.00 +/- 6.12 min; P < 0.005). Adhesion was significantly less (P < 0.001) for the non-closure group than for the closure group. The ranges of myometrial necrosis (5/5: 100% versus 0/5: 00%; P < 0.001) and fibrosis (2/5. 40% versus 0/5: 00%; P < 0.01) were significantly higher for the closure group than for the open group. It was found that non-closure of all layers of the uterus at low transverse cesarean incision had no adverse effect on immediate and late postoperative complication in dogs. Our data show that non-closure of all layers of the uterus at low transverse cesarean incision results in significantly less muscular necrosis and fibrosis than in the closure group. We suggest that non-closure and/or at least non-vigorous locking bur very simple closure of all layers of the uterus at low transverse cesarean incision may be preferential in appropriate cases. Gestational trophoblastic disease cases encountered in 88 pregnant women during a period between January 1985 and June 1992 were retrospectively studied. During the same period we had 6800 deliveries. The incidence of gestational trophoblastic diseases was 12.9 per 1000 deliveries. Of these cases 72 (81.8%) were diagnosed as hydatidiform mole and 16 (18.2%) were diagnosed as choriocarcinoma in histopathological investigations. The preferred method of treatment for cases of hydatidiform mole was termination with suction curettage and oxytocin perfusion. Trophoblastic diseases were common in women with five or more pregnancies from rural areas and our incidence was higher when compared with similar studies. Moreover, our patients had low socio-economic and poor educational status. All these factors seem to be etiologic reasons, besides multiparity.
